[Bug 758914] Re: Unity frozen after some minuts of work

There haven't been too many updates, or updates that seem related to
this problem, but right now I don't have this issue any more. So for the
time being I mark it as invalid.

[Bug 760424] [NEW] gnome-system-log Search/Search again with F3

2011-04-13 Thread ziggystar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

I am so used to
 * hit ctrl+f
 * type what you are searching
 * hit f3 until you have found the correct match

This doesn't work in gnome-system-log and first thing I expected that
the search was broken. I think this common functionality has to work in
every application in the same way.

[Bug 746924] Re: kernel default cpufreq governor fails to take action when system is overheating

2011-04-13 Thread Steve Langasek
No, the frequency does not drop when the temperature rises, on either
maverick or natty kernel.

Although I never saw this problem when I was running natty, running a
machine-stressing compile on a maverick kernel now did get within a
couple of degrees of critical before I ^Zed the build. I do have the
same problem that Jamie reports of the fans never coming up to full
speed; in my case they max out around 3800rpm on 'auto', and about
6350rpm on 'disengaged'. When running at full speed, this is enough to
keep the machine 10°C away from the critical trip point.

The last problem is that the acpi thermal thresholds themselves are
screwed up. With a single thermal zone on the system, I have:

$ cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point_{0,1}_{temp,type}
10
critical
127500
passive
$

The 'passive' trip point is higher than the 'critical' trip point. And
the cooling devices are all tied to the passive trip point:

$ cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/cdev*_trip_point
1
1
1
1
$

So screwy ACPI tables seem to be at least part of the problem.

[Bug 760258] Re: Banshee shows untranslated due to an wrongly-named .mo file

2011-04-13 Thread David Planella
Thanks Ricardo for the heads up.

Yes, I can confirm this. What happened was that Banshee used to use the
banshee-1 translation domain, and the banshee-1.mo file was shipped in
language packs accordingly.

However, at some point the domain in banshee changed from banshee-1 to
banshee. I just noticed it last week and I changed it in Launchpad, so
that the next language pack after beta-2 contains banshee.mo

Regards,
David.

Re: [Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2011-04-13 Thread Jordan Farrell
Actually, it would be impossible to have made the cut for 11.04 just
because the day I started the project I would have only had two weeks
to get something pushed through and then approved for the code freeze
date. However I am shooting for 11.10 and I now have two more people
that will be helping me with it. The major push for the project will
begin in mid-May and hopefully our code will be accepted before 11.10.
But initially their may only be support for Google and MSN, possibly
Yahoo. The rest will follow those and Google and MSN should be
completed about the same time. The reason for MSN being supported so
early is that the connection manager for it was programmed in Python,
which is the language I have more experince in.

[Bug 592842] Re: appmenu doesn't work with apps run as sudo root

2011-04-13 Thread quequotion
This is confusing, distracting and reducing productivity.

Here's a proposal:

indicator-appmenu gets, initially, read-only access to the root dbus (in
order to draw the menu) and then asks for a password on the first menu
call (by either mouse click or keyboard shortcut). All root privileges
drop once the window is out of focus or closed.

This only requires that indicator-applet temporarily take elevated
privileges. It would be important to drop privileges both for closing
windows and windows loosing focus since a user application could take
advantage of the raised privileges unless they were somehow isolated.

Having to enter a password is probably indication enough that an
application has raised privileges.

If it were not, the root menu could be drawn with inversion of highlight
(selected/mouseover) and unhighlighted (unselected/normal) colors.

[Bug 760244] Re: U-Boot needs device tree support for Linaro 11.05 cycle release

2011-04-13 Thread Steve Langasek
According to John, this has been regression-tested on omap3 (beagle) and
omap4 (panda), and the only problems identified are with support for the
Beagle rev. B5 - which is not a regression vs. the package currently in
the archive.

since u-boot-linaro-omap3-beagle and u-boot-linaro-omap4-panda are the
only binaries in main, if these are ok and this change has the approval
of the Ubuntu ARM team (who are the reason these binaries *are* in
main), I think this freeze exception should be granted.

[Bug 385939] Re: Libraries not found

2011-04-13 Thread Marc J. Driftmeyer
Testing against latest in Debian Sid the path of precedence is based
upon $HOME, Local and System.

Instead of placing a symlink into a /usr/local path GNUstep is actually
looking for a User Library path ala OS X.

$HOME/GNUstep/Library

Inside this setup should be:

/Colors
/Services

Therefore, add the symlink as follows: $ ln -s
/usr/lib/GNUstep/Library/Cenon Cenon

Restart Cenon and the message will disappear.

Solution:

GNUstep is attempting to mirror the installation behavior of Application
Libraries half-way.

Because they aren't set up as App Bundles Debian will need to split the
App specific libraries and create the path under the
$HOME/GNUstep/Library or $HOME/GNUstep/Library/Application Support
depending on whichever one GNUstep has settled on.

In short, instead of polluting the /usr/local/lib/GNUstep path or
/usr/lib/GNUstep path with application library specific information it's
much easier to split that under the User path while the actual
application relying solely on the GNUstep libraries then looks for the
GNUstep libs to complete the loading.

/lib/GNUstep/Library
/home/User/GNUstep/Library/AppSpecificPathtoLibaries

Either way, GNUstep needs to decide if it wants to be a hack of NeXTStep or a
Linux version of Darwin with as much of OS X Foundation, AppKit, WebKit, etc it
can muster. System Preferences should match those at the user level, System
level and local level for the GNUstep environment if it wants portability
between GNUstep and OS X.

[Bug 340970] Re: When apport complains package is outdated, it doesn't let you update

2011-04-13 Thread Abhinav Upadhyay
Hi,

I did work on this bug sometime back, however, I am not sure if it works
because I was not able to test it on my system.

Here is what I did:
In apport there is a check to see if the package being reported is obsolete
(apport/ui.py) , so the previous behavior was to show a message box informing
the user that perhaps updating the packages might solve the problem.

I added my code here, so instead of displaying the messagebox on finding
outdated (or obsolete ?) packages it will display a dialog box asking
the user if he would like to update the packages ? . I consulted Martin
Pitt about this and did as he told me to do.

I am not sure if it works, just attaching the patch so that someone
might give a review.

Thanks

[Bug 760413] [NEW] qemu-i386-static segfault on armel

2011-04-13 Thread Steve Langasek

Running nspluginwrapper under qemu on armel yields a segfault. This is
after rebuilding locally with -U_FORTIFY_SOURCE, because when the
default FORTIFY_SOURCE settings are used, it instead aborts with "***

false positive but it seems it might not be.

[Bug 758785] Re: [arrandale] Display flickers or blank on login

2011-04-13 Thread Stefan Stasik
OK, so I tried these steps:

- Logged out
- logged into a text-mode console window
- killed g-s-d process
- removed ~/.config/monitors.xml file
- killed X server ('X') (since when I tried to switch to X-window console, I
was then just getting text mode only)
- x-server and login session restarted, and external monitor started flickering
again, and unreadable.
- went thru same steps as above as I am doing to get the display to fix itself,
and then login.

Thoughts?

Thanks again, Bryce.

- Stefan

Works like magic ;-)

When will it be included in Ubuntu 11.04 (The first ubuntu version that

And - seems like it still uses a "normal" makefile - do you want me to
write automake/autoconf/autoheader/autosomething- scripts for the next
version of the tool?

[Bug 760410] [NEW] System freeze at login screen

2011-04-13 Thread Krishnaswamy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

The system freezes at the login screen. I've been facing this issue for
quite some time from ubuntu 10.10. With ubuntu 10.10 I was able to
access the X by dropping to the root command prompt with network support
and then by issuing the startx command.

I upgraded(fresh install) to 11.04 yesterday but still i am facing the
same problem.

Can you please fix this issue at the earliest, drop in a mail if you
need any further information.

Motherboard: DH55HC
Video: H55

Note: This problem started appearing with recent kernel updates in
ubuntu 10.10

[Bug 760407] [NEW] selected area screenshots include orange highlight

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

When I take a screenshot using the gnome-screenshot tool in Unity, the
resulting image includes the orange highlight and border that are used
to select the area to screenshot. This doesn't happen in Ubuntu
Classic. See attached.

[Bug 760405] [NEW] corruption around the mouse pointer

2011-04-13 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

There seems to be some persistent bug in unity (or maybe xorg?) where
the screen around the mouse pointer is not repainted properly when the
windows under it change. It doesn't happen all the time but it is
fairly common (20+ times per day). The affected area is a square about
1cm in size. It seems like when the mouse is moved a slightly old
version of the screen is redrawn. I have not yet been able to get a
screenshot of it.

[Bug 760406] [NEW] doesn't raise windows for drag and drop

2011-04-13 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

When I drag a file, for instance from the chromium download bar or from
the desktop, over a window, I would expect the selected window to auto-
raised after a short delay, so that I can drag it to the right place
within this window. This works/worked in Ubuntu classic, but not in
Unity. Drag and drop does seem to work in other regards.

[Bug 753771] Re: dropdown menus crash compiz

2011-04-13 Thread Th3Pr0ph3t
This bug has made me believe Compiz was unstable when in fact it is produced by
the settings I'm using.
Window Decoration: !(state=maxvert)
Window Shadows: !(class=Conky)

Use those expressions for Shadow and Decoration in the Decoration plugin
on compizconfig-settings-manager (ccsm) and the bug will be reproduced.

This did not occur on previous versions of Ubuntu. I'm almost certain
that those expressions are responsible of crashing compiz over and over
again.

[Bug 760404] [NEW] popup menus float on top of other windows

2011-04-13 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Unity (or compiz, or something) seems to have a persistent problem where
popup menus float above all other windows on the screen. They ought to
be z-ordered along with their owning window.

For instance I can easily reproduce this by starting hamster-applet,
getting its suggestion popup to come up, then switching to another
window and dragging that window on top. See the screenshot.

Re: [Bug 743214] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-04-13 Thread LaBero
Dear Bryce,

I really hope that I haven't caused the "optimized-out-problem". If so, do
you know what I have done so that I can correct my self in the future?

After testing 11.04 for a couple of days I had to remove it and reinstall
10.10 again. I experienced some problems with installing applications that I
would like to use, this probably due to my lacking experience with linux. As
you probably realize by now, I don't have files that you would like to see.

If there is any thing else that I can contribute with please don't hesitate
to contact me again. If my hardware setup is of any help:

Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E
Ubuntu x64 running on: OCZ Vertex 2 Series 60GB
Graphics card:Sapphire Radeon HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE

best regards
Joel

[Bug 760401] [NEW] dh_python3 generates incorrect prerm script which cannot remove .pyc files

2011-04-13 Thread IRIE Shinsuke
Public bug reported:

I use dh_python3 in python3 3.2-1.

When building deb package which uses python3 and includes only private
modules, dh_python3 incorrectly inserts prerm-pyclean into the prerm
scripts instead of prerm-py3clean:

#!/bin/sh
set -e

# Automatically added by dh_python3:
if which pyclean >/dev/null 2>&1; then
pyclean -p blender2.5
else
dpkg -L blender2.5 | grep \.py$ | while read file
do
rm -f "${file}"[co] >/dev/null
done
fi

# End automatically added section

So, when upgrading my package using dh_python3, I got many warnings and
many unnecessary .pyc files remained in my system.

I also tested python3 3.2-1 which was taken from Debian sid, and
confirmed that the bug is still in the upstream latest version.

I have already reported this bug at Debian bug tracker and posted a
patch.

[Bug 760395] [NEW] Kwin effect blur causes instability problems, especially with docky programs.

2011-04-13 Thread JC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Kubuntu 10.10 64bit
Kde effects
The blur itself works well, but my desktop gets VERY laggy and I narrowed it
down to the blur effect.
The dock program I use (Docky) gets extremely buggy (as does the desktop in
general) with blur.
KPackagekit and Clementine suffer very much from blur.
Specifically, blur causes lagginess, browser glitching, etc.

[Bug 727979] Re: Screen flicker approx. every 30 seconds

2011-04-13 Thread Bryce Harrington
@Martin, I'm not sure how you'd like to see this fixed. I'm attaching a
debdiff that cherrypicks the patch; I've not tested this myself.
Alternatively, you may want to consider just pulling 0.9.9 which
includes this patch.

I've not gotten this to build locally in pbuilder, so am reticent to
just upload it myself. Not sure why it's failing, but it also happens
same with the unpatched 0.9.8-3 so I suspect my debdiff is ok.

dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libgudev-1.0-dev
libusb-1.0-0-dev (>= 1.0.0) libimobiledevice-dev (>= 0.9.7)
dpkg-buildpackage: warning: Build dependencies/conflicts unsatisfied; aborting.
dpkg-buildpackage: warning: (Use -d flag to override.)
E: Failed autobuilding of package

If anyone else would like to test the fix, I've dropped it into my ppa at:

Re: [Bug 758341] Re: unity wont let me start a new nautilus window if one instance is already opened

2011-04-13 Thread PresuntoRJ
I cannot middle click in a notebook or netbook because those do not have a
middle button. This cannot be understood as a complete/correct solution
since one will need a three button mouse (or one with a scroll which also
clicks, as most recent mouses do), and you cannot guaranty that the users
will have such device installed on their system. For instance, I do not use
an external mouse on my netbook or notebook. :-/ I don't think I am the only
one. There got to be a better way. A more reliable (at least it looks almost
impossible to have a working system whithout one) would be a right click
menu option to show the possible new instanace... I do understand that most
Mac would not have a right click, since they have only one button in their
mouse, but they do have a well known method of "showing" such context menu,
usually with a keyborad/mouse combination (not sure which cause I do not
have an Apple yet). I hope you see my point.

[Bug 677890] Re: do-release-upgrade needs to resume gracefully from broken internet connection

2011-04-13 Thread RedSingularity
When performing the update, downloaded files are stored in your
/var/cache/apt/archives directory. If the connection fails in the
middle of downloading packages, the files are still in that directory.
The next time you try an upgrade the system will know some of the needed
files are already downloaded and will not download them again.
Therefore, effectively, the system does indeed resume downloading
packages where it left off.

After building with the patch pointed at this link I was able to boot

[Bug 760389] [NEW] Not following XDG_CACHE_HOME

2011-04-13 Thread Diego Algara
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-weather

indicator weather is looking for a log file, that no longer exists in ~/.cache
It shouldn't depend on it, and the reason I don't have it is because I changed
my cache folder, so there's a second bug:

indicator weather has ~/.cache hard coded for cache, instead of following the
free desktop standard, $XDG_CACHE_HOME
Please include it:
http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/basedir-spec-latest.html
Quoting:
$XDG_CACHE_HOME defines the base directory relative to which user specific
non-essential data files should be stored. If $XDG_CACHE_HOME is either not set
or empty, a default equal to $HOME/.cache should be used.

[Bug 754855] Re: The google default search engine returns results in other than the system's language

2011-04-13 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
Reproduced in Japanese.

Procedure.
1. Open firefox in your locale(my lang code=ja).
2. Input any word and enter in top-right google search box.
3. Displayed search result, and it seems that UI is Cherokee(lang code=chr)
4. Click Google logo
5. Check URL, it is http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=chr
  But should be http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=ja

[Bug 731228] Re: Unable to mount NTFS partition when LOOP-AES-UTILS is installed

2011-04-13 Thread Douglas Baigrie
The same issue is also preventing the gvfs-fuse-daemon from mounting the
$HOME/.gvfs directory

This breaks a number of things that rely on this method to gain access
to network resources over GVFS when not using GIO. i.e.
Openoffice/Libreoffice.

[Bug 747717] Re: Blank screens have more than two windows open, wrong behavior in some applications.

2011-04-13 Thread Luke Hoersten
This bug affects me as well. Looks like maybe a compiz/video card driver
memory issue because when I have too many windows open, opening more
windows causes the newly opened windows to be blank white.

Resizing the windows to be smaller can sometimes allow the window
content to render.

- Blank screens have more than two windows open, wrong behavior in some
applications.
