[Bug 495394] Re: autostart almost always fails on boot time host

2011-05-12 Thread Heiko Harders
I can reproduce this on a fresh Ubuntu 11.04 using two 11.04 virtual
machines (I had better luck with my previous 10.10 install that did work
properly for me).

The patch provided by Mika does not seem to work for me, libvirt does
not seem to be started properly with it (my domains are not shown in
virsh with a `list --all' for example). My boot.log shows two lines with
`Stopping Check if bridged network is up. OK' though.

[Bug 495394] Re: autostart almost always fails on boot time host

2011-05-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
I like the idea of Mika's patch. Besides extending it to not break on
eth0:1, should it (and can it) be extended to also support slow network
links which are not bridges?

I'm assigning this temporarily to SpamapS to get his opinion, and give
him a chance to nack the patch if he thinks an imminent new upstart
feature will fix this. If such a feature is not imminent, then I'll
push the fix for o-series and SRU it back.

[Bug 781595] [NEW] Certificate verification fails with error=invalid CA certificate

2011-05-12 Thread Ingmar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openvpn

Trying to connect to my VPN gateway I always get the following errors:

Thu May 12 12:04:42 2011 VERIFY ERROR: depth=1, error=invalid CA certificate:
/C=DE/ST=Baden-Wuerttemberg/O=MY_PRIVATE_CA/OU=VPN/CN=hostname/emailAddress=MY_EMAIL

Thu May 12 12:04:42 2011 TLS Error: TLS object - incoming plaintext read error
Thu May 12 12:04:42 2011 TLS Error: TLS handshake failed

Worked a long time with this config and I didn't changed it. openssl
verify ... also says that the cert is valid so I think this may be a
bug in the openvpn package.

[Bug 423071] Re: PHP5 now depends on libapache2-mod-php5 even if lighttpd installed

2011-05-12 Thread Ondřej Surý
I don't think there's a bug in PHP5 here, if the apache2 is getting
installed then it's a bug in APT resolving the dependencies somewhere.

Also it _is_ documented:
This package is a meta-package that, when installed, guarantees that you
have at least one of the four server-side versions of the PHP5 interpreter
installed. Removing this package won't remove PHP5 from your system, however
it may remove other packages that depend on this one.

And there's no bug in 9.10 - this is normal behaviour. If you run apt-
get install php5 it will install the first alternative dependency. If
you did apt-get install php5 php5-cgi then it would work.

1) Default ought to be, that there is communication with NTP-server

[Bug 495394] Re: autostart almost always fails on boot time host

2011-05-12 Thread Mika Båtsman
Part of this problem is that there are 2 competing mechanisms for
bringing the bridges up:

1) bridge-network-interface.conf from bridge-utils
2) network-interface.conf from ifupdown

These two seem to be racing which one gets to handle the interface. It
seems that most of the time network-interface.conf is faster and emits
net-device-up. bridged-network.conf (from the patch) relies on net-
device-up events. Because of the bridge-network-interface.conf the
bridged-network.conf didn't seem to get all the net-device-up events
which caused occasional failures. At least for me that happened very
seldom and that made the problem more difficult to solve.

I've disabled bridged-network-interface.conf and haven't had any
problems with networking and libvirt for a few months now.

The attachment has my current solution for 10.04. I haven't tested it
with 10.10 or 11.04. It now checks status for status network-interface
instead of bridge-network-interface so it's a bit more generic and could
help with wider range of network configurations, not just with bridges.
I have also rename bridged-network.conf to network-up.conf. If you have
tested the previous patch and are going to test this one make sure you
don't have both bridged-network.conf and network-up.conf.

I don't have any setups using alias interfaces so I don't know if this
helps with with those but at least it's not that bridge specific any
more.

** Patch added: Patch V3

$ sudo ./drivers/usbhid-ups -u root - -a cyberpower

@Fred: can you please do the same with Troy, and send (only to) me the
output.

We should have sufficient validation with that.
Note that a 2 mn run is sufficient...

The DpkgTerminalLog file shows that bind9 could not be stopped because

2011-05-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to submit this bug.

The file which is failing actually ships with debconf. The code in the
archive does not jive with the error message. However, a google search
points to http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1694794.html
which suggests that simply ignoring the error and doing

sudo dpkg --configure -a sudo apt-get install -f

should get you past it. Can you try and confirm whether that works?

[Bug 573318] Re: mysql server will not start

2011-05-12 Thread Alfred Maghi
I have the same problem in Natty Ubuntu 11.04.

$ sudo service mysql start
start: Job failed to start

/etc/mysql/my.cnf file was missing, I created it, it is readable
(-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3770 /etc/mysql/my.cnf) but now sudo service
mysql start does nothing but wait. No error message, nothing happens:

$ sudo service mysql status
mysql start/running

mysql service doesn't start but I can run mysqld_safe.
110513 02:05:36 mysqld_safe Logging to syslog.
110513 02:05:36 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from
/var/lib/mysql
110513 02:05:36 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file

[Bug 777972] Re: package dhcp3-server 3.1.3-2ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2011-05-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to submit this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

The installation failed because user dhcpd already existed. Were you
doing an apt-get dist-upgrade, or were you doing a fresh install of
dhcp3-server?

If this was an update, then there is a bug in the package's install
scripts. If you were installing a fresh package, then please try doing
'sudo deluser dhcp' and then do 'apt-get install -f' to complete the
installation of dhcp3-server.

I was having this issue as well.

What I tried was I disabled my WINS Server in my smb.conf wins support

and it was working again.

I didn't need WINS anymore and was meaning to disable it anyways, but if
you need WINS Server enabled, try what I did and enable it after.

[Bug 705243] Re: Ubnutu-certified laptop: Synaptics touchpad broken, misdetected as PS/2

2011-05-12 Thread Phil-ganchev
Thanks but the fix does not work for my computer -- it does not change
anything.

However, for a few months now, the USB mouse has stopped acting up, whle
the touchpad is now completely unresponsive.

[Bug 781494] [NEW] Apply upstream fix to broken perl plugins for pidgin 2.6.6

2011-05-12 Thread Rob Van Dam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

A bug in pidgin 2.6.6 means that signals (aka events) in perl plugins
are passed invalid/incorrect arguments. This has already been
documented and fixed upstream. See
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/11431. Here is the fix (reverts the
regression while also avoiding the compiler warning that prompted the
original change):
http://developer.pidgin.im/viewmtn/revision/diff/b84cb254e83a2dd3b31443d05163b32875e98fdf/with/3762c9332c14ac3b681bae2c99c49773c2e46e8a/libpurple/plugins/perl
/perl-handlers.c.

Since lucid will be around for several more years and there's no urgent
reason (read security fixes) to move lucid to 2.7.x, could this minor
fix be applied to allow perl pidgin plugins to work again in lucid?
It's hard to release plugins when you have to then also convince most of
your users to upgrade via a ppa or backports just to get basic plugins
to work.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-05-12 Thread Ivan Mikushin
After a recent system update gnome-settings-daemon crashes with segmentation
fault upon login to gnome shell (installed from ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3,
gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.1-0ubuntu1~build4). The #68 comment hack makes it
even worse: the session hangs (nevertheless, it did the trick under with
vanilla ubuntu-10.10: I was affected until upgraded to Natty + Gnome3, have
SSD, Core i7).
Before the update everything worked just fine (gnome-settings-daemon
3.0.1-0ubuntu1~build3.1).

From syslog:

[Bug 777702] Re: Missing window control buttons in LibreOffice window under Unity desktop ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-12 Thread Tomeez
You don't have to reboot.
I checked that when I open document in LibreOffice buttons disappear, but when
You close the document (not the LibreOffice, just the document) and You open it
again (or any other document) the buttons will be back again. After this, every
time when You open or close the document but not the program itself, then the
buttons will stay.

[Bug 776345] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 blank screen on boot

2011-05-12 Thread Oscar Rivera
I would like to thank everyone for contributing to my bug report. As I
originally stated, apparently I am not the only one to be suffering from the
Natty update. Everything was fine with my system until the recent update and
now I am glad I never gave up on Windows by keeping it in my dual-boot system
as it is now through Windows XP that I find myself writing this. Unless I find
something that works soon I will most likely be reverting back not to Ubuntu
10.10 but rather to the 10.04 LTS so that I don't have to deal with any updates
that completely kill my system (which is exactly what happened) for at least
another year.
Canonical really needs to re-evaluate their strategy to use this new Unity
desktop because it seems to really be hurting the momentum that Ubuntu had
gained while using GNOME as the default desktop environment. Perhaps Unity is
the right choice for netbooks but definitely not for desktops, at least not
yet. I, for one, would never have decided to switch over to Linux if my first
experience with Linux had given me half as many headaches as the current
situation that Natty Narwhal is making us endure. Thanks again to everyone and
don't give up.

[Bug 761312] Re: audio stream keeps becoming corrupted when listening to music

2011-05-12 Thread Tim
Here is a log from just after the audio stream got corrupted.

I had to reduce the verboseness of the logging to re-create this while
logging, hopefully there is something contained in this that might help
track it down!

ie run.
LANG=C pulseaudio -vv  ~/pulseverbose.log 21

2011-05-12 Thread Sayantan Das
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty running-unity unity-2d

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: plymouth

I have this issue of plymouth starting in fallback text mode everytime.
However, when i log out, i am able to see the graphics.
i have tried updating the initram using sudo update-initramfs -c -k all but
it did not help.
I think this is a bug.

[Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

2011-05-12 Thread Michael Ruisseau
Exact same problem here, I have a Dell Latitude D610, I'm using Ubuntu
Classic, random log out generally after one click in Chrome, it can be
after a click on a link but it just happened to me after closing a tab,
I also had the case once while I was using the Pokerstars app in Wine
1.2.2, I can spend a whole day without this occuring but it can also
occur 5 min after turning on my laptop, the only systematic trigger
seems to be a mouse click.
