[Bug 797161] Re: package amavisd-new-postfix (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: underproces installerede post-installation-script returnerede afslutningsstatus 1

2011-06-15 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

** Visibility changed to: Public

** This bug is no longer flagged as a security vulnerability

[Bug 782890] Re: no ping response on all hosts after upgrade

2011-06-15 Thread amichair
I was hit by the same bug after upgrade to Natty - the original poser's
solution worked (configuring $Conf{Ping6Path} = '/bin/ping6';.

I totally agree that this should be set by default - there's no reason
for others to waste time trying to figure out why backups aren't working
(there's no clear indication that this is the cause).

I don't have ipv6 support on LAN nor externally, and have not changed
anything in this regard in Ubuntu's internal configuration as far as I
know. If there's anything in my configuration that you'd like me to
check to help with this, I'd be happy to.

[Bug 634359] Re: php-pear should depend on php5-dev

2011-06-15 Thread Clint Byrum
I added the forwarded bug to Debian. It was resolved in a different way
in Debian, so I think we'll drop the dependency on php5-dev from php-
pear once we merge again, since the new solution will still address the
problem (phpize missing) and allow php-pear to be installed without
php5-dev.

[Blueprint server-o-ensemble] Get Ensemble into Ubuntu

  == The road to main for ensemble ==

  1. When do we want that to happen?

  - 11.10 Ensemble in Universe, problem, ensemble is rapidly developing
  how to deal with updates.

  Ensemble can't be frozen past a stable release. We need to deploy new
  features for the project to be successful.

  Two possible approaches:

  - Use a PPA (simpler, works well)
  - Do SRUs every month or so (much more heavy weight, apparently unnecessary)

  We'll probably be going with the second option.

  2. What do we need to get done for this to happen?

  Needed dependencies:

  - txzookeeper (not packaged yet)
  - txaws (must be upgraded)
  - zookeeper (needs patches which were already pushed upstream)

  3. Strategies for upgrading?

  4. Etc.

  Sample interaction with Ensemble:

  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates some files in ~/.ensemble/
  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates the first instance of Ensemble on EC2
  $ ensemble deploy wordpress
  $ ensemble deploy mysql
  $ ensemble add-relation wordpress mysql

  This requires AWS credentials in the environment.

  The mysql instance can be reused across services.

[Bug 522509] Re: [FFE] tftpd-hpa doesn't start on boot

2011-06-15 Thread Diego Morales
I have the same problem, using lucid latest package (5.0-11ubuntu2.1).

I have many interfaces configured in this machine, and nic bonding
configured. Upstart seems to raise tftp when the first bond interface
starts:

now running without any active interface !

The status tftpd-hpa says the job is running, when it's not (should
THAT happen?). stop/start raises the program just fine.

I tried to change the condition to (filesystem and and started
networking), but that seems to start it even earlier. I've changed it
to (filesystem and net-device-up IFACE=bond0.80) (bond0.80 is the last
bond interface) and then it worked.

But the problem may actually be that bondX is !=lo, and it may come up before
any of its slaves be available, resulting in the
cannot resolve local IPv4 bind address: 0.0.0.0 error.

Should I open a new bug? If so, should it be on tftpd-hpa, or some other
package?

[Bug 791944] Re: package samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-06-15 Thread datanalytics.com
I tried to manually start nmbd and I got the following:

carlos@kropotkin:samba$ sudo /etc/init.d/nmbd start
[sudo] password for carlos:
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service nmbd start

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start nmbd
start: Job failed to start
carlos@kropotkin:samba$ service nmbd start
start: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type=method_call,
sender=:1.53 (uid=1000 pid=5836 comm=start nmbd )
interface=com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job member=Start error name=(unset)
requested_reply=0 destination=com.ubuntu.Upstart (uid=0 pid=1
comm=/sbin/init))
carlos@kropotkin:samba$ start nmbd
start: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type=method_call,
sender=:1.54 (uid=1000 pid=5849 comm=start nmbd )
interface=com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job member=Start error name=(unset)

Does it help?

  We'll probably be going with the second option.

  2. What do we need to get done for this to happen?

  Needed dependencies:

  - txzookeeper (not packaged yet)
  - txaws (must be upgraded)
  - zookeeper (needs patches which were already pushed upstream)

  3. Strategies for upgrading?

  4. Etc.

  Sample interaction with Ensemble:

  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates some files in ~/.ensemble/
  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates the first instance of Ensemble on EC2
  $ ensemble deploy wordpress
  $ ensemble deploy mysql
  $ ensemble add-relation wordpress mysql

  This requires AWS credentials in the environment.

  The mysql instance can be reused across services.

  Tasks

   - [niemeyer] Ensemble Daily PPA.

  Questions

   - Zookeeper Packages
   - python zookeeper
   - txaws package updates
   - ensemble package
   - principia package?

[Bug 676304] Re: Samba fails with files having colon in file name

2011-06-15 Thread Arto Jääskeläinen
Just tested, the error still exists in Natty.

Test case:
That's very easy to create. Just insert mangled names = no into ===Share
Definitions== section of /etc/samba/smb.conf, create some directory and mark
it shared, create some long file names containing a colon and some without
colon. Restart smbd (sudo service smbd restart). You will see the error
instantly when you connect to that share.

[Bug 797175] Re: While using synaptic package manager and trying to do an update

2011-06-15 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
You can do sudo dpkg --clear-avail to get rid of the error you are
seeing. But that doesn't explain why the error appeared, most likely
some sort of file corruption. And the related bug is not more helpful.

For the failed removal, try to finish the installation with sudo apt-
get install linux-headers-3.0-0 before trying to remove it.

[Bug 718807] Re: Wireshark should use the default web browser

I'm still a newbie and I don't understand why it's better to use one of
sensible-browser, gnome-www-browser or x-www-browser (system wide
setting) instead of xdg-open or gnome-open (user setting)?

I read the comment 5 in the bug 562476 with attention, and it seems that
Ubuntu application's shouldn't use sensible-browser, gnome-www-browser
or x-www-browser.

[Bug 797532] [NEW] Typing Monitor don't starts break

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Version of gnome-control-center package: 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu2

[Bug 796313] Re: Random logout to tty

2011-06-15 Thread Sam_
In tty those mentioned lines scroll down, the last word is password in large
letters, but if I start typing it displays clear letters.
Some time later user login appears or I can hit [Enter] more times until it
displays user login.
After login I can startx which logs me into failsafe GUI without complains as
before. Either from there or from tty I can do a reboot.
Last time it was rebooted I didn't connect to wireless or eth0 (I need to
restart nm-applet for this anyway), instead I opened a terminal to grab some
errors from log files, but after a few letters typing got logged out to tty
again. Very weird all.
I'd be happy to issue any cmds in tty in order to provide you with more
meaningful outputs.

[Bug 760131] Re: Power consumption raised significantly in natty

2011-06-15 Thread maciek
I'm running a Thinkpad T60, T5600, X1300 and checked on Fedora 15. They have
both new powertop (~1.98) and more options enabled in the kernel. Anyway, I can
get ~17W power usage there (kernel 2.6.38.7) which is slightly more what I got
on Fedora 14 (2.6.35.13). So the laptop has boasting 3:40 minutes of battery
time. On Ubuntu 11.04 it's sadly 2:40.
Anyway, I guess it does make sense to compare the kernel configs at some point.

mv /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode.off

EVERYTHING WORKED GREAT INITIALLY IN 10.04 UNTIL THE 10.10 UPGRADE. WE'RE NOT
ASKING FOR NEW DEVELOPMENT, JUST FIND THE CODE WHICH DID WORK AND RESTORE THOSE
SETTINGS TO 10.10, 11.04, ETC GOING FORWARD. I CANNOT UPGRADE WITHOUT THIS FIX.

[Bug 797537] [NEW] Natty 11.04 Gateway NV79 BACKLIGHT TURNED OFF DURING BOOT

2011-06-15 Thread Daudi Amani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

BUG creeped into Maverick 10.10; wasn't in Lucid 10.04. Still exists in Natty
11.04 (can be verified with Natty distribution CD).
During boot sequence, display backlight is turned off. Also occurs when waking
up from suspend. Graphics are being output but cannot be seen because backlight
is off. Plugging in an external monitor and setting to mirror displays turns
on the backlight. (which will go off again upon suspend). Seems related to i915
chip settings.

same bug referenced in detail in:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/685727
and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/705949
.. both bugs which have languished for ages with no response and have been
inexplicably closed.

[Bug 598664] Re: resume fails in development kernels for Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t

2011-06-15 Thread nnutter
Adding 'nohpet' to Grub allows resume to work correctly.

I edited /etc/default/grub to add 'nohpet' to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
and then ran 'sudo update-grub' and rebooted. So my
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line now reads:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nohpet

[Bug 797544] [NEW] grub2 waits forever for keystroke before booting default OS. headless server. hang.

2011-06-15 Thread Bryce Nesbitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

After a seemingly-routine apt-get update on an Ubuntu 10.10 server, the
machine hangs on boot.
It is sitting at the grub2 prompt, waiting in vain for someone to come along
and press enter.

I have tried two workarounds:

-
Edit /etc/grub.d/00_header to remove the check for recordfail in:

make_timeout ()
{
echo set timeout=1
}

In /etc/default/grub set
 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=2
-
Then sudo update-grub

Now I'm pretty dang stuck. There is plenty of forum activity on this
issue, but no true solutions.

[Bug 797543] [NEW] Grub2 and tty characters illegible white blocks

2011-06-15 Thread roderikk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

After a fresh install of Natty on my new PC I noticed that upon booting
the characters of grub and the 'scrolling list of messages' were
completely illegible. Updates were made but it only showed white blocks
where there should be messages. Boot up commenced successfully however.

After logging into the normal unity shell I typed Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to
tty1 and found the situation there similar. I could not read anything.

After some searching I found the following post:
http://harrison3001.blogspot.com/2009/09/grub-2-graphical-boot-tips-to-
set.html and followed the following instructions:

For example i use Debian within VirtualBox at a resolution of 1280x800
for the console and also for the Xorg server. If you want you to start
with this resolution also for GRUB 2 (remember in the past was very
limited this feature, and if you are using VirtualBox or other
virtualization programs the annoying result was in resizing the window
and than enlarging upon the system goes into graphical mode, for
example, with the splash screen: usplash, splashy and others), very
nice, no more discrepancies between modes: the line to change into the
/etc/default/grub file is GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x800 and then issuing update-
grub. The resulting action is to write the line set gfxmode=1280x800
into the grub.cfg file.

I used a gfxmode=1280x1024 as this is the resolution of my screen. After
this both the tty, grub and scrolling list of messages were legible
again.

I think the problem is that the 'gfxmode' was set to a property that my
new ATI card could not handle?

If any more information is required please let me know.

[Bug 795845] Re: pkgstripfiles: symlinks doc files but leaves records in md5sums

2011-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package pkgbinarymangler - 100

---
pkgbinarymangler (100) oneiric; urgency=low

  * test/run: Add forgotten check_deb_integrity() to documentation symlink
tests. This catches the wrong md5sums of symlinked doc files.
  * pkgstripfiles: Remove doc files from md5sums which get replaced with a
symlink. (LP: #795845)
  * test/run: Call check_deb_integrity() in build(), and remove the explicit
call from all the individual tests. There is no situation where we expect
broken debs to be created, so this saves us from accidentally forgetting
to call it in newly created tests.
  * test/run: Drop separate check_translation_tarball() test, and integrate it
into check_deb_mo(). We now want to move to only building translation
tarballs for packages which we actually strip, so it does not make sense
any more to check those two individually.
  * pkgstriptranslations: Do not build a translation tarball if we did not
strip the packages. With that, Launchpad does not need to check the
component of the package any more, but can just import everything we throw
at it. This also allows us to put some selected universe packages under
langpack support. (LP: #788685, part 1)
  * pkgstriptranslations: Force stripping and translation tarball build if
debian/control has X..-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes header. Add
corresponding test case. (LP: #788685, part 2)
  * test/run: Fix ResourceWarnings for unclosed files. Python 3, you are
overly picky!
