[Bug 862129] Re: package samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 2
No, that's not quite right. Per policy (http://www.debian.org/doc /debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-mscriptsinstact): The package whose postrm is being called may have previously been deconfigured and only be unpacked, at which point subsequent package changes do not consider its dependencies. Therefore, all postrm actions may only rely on essential packages and must gracefully skip any actions that require the package's dependencies if those dependencies are unavailable. In any case, samba already depends on update-inetd, which depends on libfile-temp-perl, which is provided by perl-modules, so it's clearly not a matter of adding a dependency. It does have some code to attempt to gracefully cope if update-inetd is missing, but (a) the check for update-inetd being present isn't there in all branches, and (b) in this case update-inetd is present but not all its dependencies are available. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862129 Title: package samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/862129/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 863836] [NEW] Text in indicator-session does not reflect the actual status of updates immediately
Public bug reported: When new updates are available, say by doing 'sudo apt-get update', the new status is not immediately reflected in the indicator-session. After opening the menu from that indicator, it still says 'Software is updated'. Only after a while, the status is updated, suggesting there is some kind of time-out, in my finding approx. 1 minute. After re-login the status is reset and, again after the time-out updated. My proposal would be that the status is updated every time the menu is drawn, or, even better, to remove the time-out. ** Affects: indicator-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863836 Title: Text in indicator-session does not reflect the actual status of updates immediately To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-session/+bug/863836/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Patch on post 132 worked perfectly for me. Trackpad, two-finger touch for right click and two-finger scroll function as they should. It'd be nice to see some support from elantech on this, though, to get the full range of features working properly. [Bug 863844] [NEW] Icon in indicator-session does not indicate pending updates
Public bug reported: The text in indicator-session is correctly reflecting the status of updates. But a user can only see that status when clicking on the indicator, which, of course is not a natural thing because normally, there's no need for the user to do that. It would be better if the icon reflects the status by colouring it, say yellow. Then the attention is drawn to the icon and everything else follows. Colouring this icon is already done when requiring a reboot (the icon turns red), so technically and functionally there should be no problem. As a bonus, the indicator could send a notification, stating the existence of pending updates. ** Affects: indicator-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863844 Title: Icon in indicator-session does not indicate pending updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-session/+bug/863844/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 854967] Re: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric
Alberto, please revert these blacklists. Blacklisting the cards in grub causes a significant regression to the user experience when NOT booting in recovery mode - systems that had a perfectly working flicker-free boot from grub to plymouth even when using the binary nvidia drivers now have a text mode boot everywhere (bug #863719). We should *NOT* regress the standard boot experience in the last weeks before release to improve the recovery mode experience. I believe a better solution here is to adjust /etc/grub.d/10_linux to always pass =text instead of =keep for recovery mode. Half the time when you're booting to recovery mode you'll get this anyway because the previous boot didn't succeed, so having grub always do this will be more consistent - and handle possible problems with the video handoff across *all* video hardware. ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: fglrx-installer-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-96-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854967 Title: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/854967/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 862609] Re: seahorse-plugins gone in Oneiric
Now, that's interesting. I had a look again and it seems a branch was created for Gnome 3, but there are just a lot of translations. On the other hand, the devs have repeatedly stated that they've got seahorse-plugins building against GTK 3: http://git.gnome.org/browse/seahorse- plugins/commit/?id=17f60f9087970b4b0084cebe1367330bdd5eb634 http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-keyring- list/2010-October/msg2.html And Gentoo seem to have successfully built seahorse-plugins for Gnome 3: http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app- crypt/seahorse/seahorse-3.0.2.ebuild As fas as the security vulnerability is concerned, you're of course right in the strictest sense of the word. No system is going to be immediately susceptible to attack because there's no seahorse-plugins in the repos. But an increase in the number of unsigned and unauthenticated files being handled can clearly be no good security. And with no seahorse-plugins and easy right click, that's what we're looking at. Precious few have heard of gpg and bothered to master the command line. Roger On 01/10/11 06:33, Jeremy Bicha wrote: This is not a security vulnerability. [Bug 863864] [NEW] /etc/init/failsafe.conf doesn't actually stop on runlevel
Public bug reported: The failsafe job is meant to inform the user that the system is waiting for the network to come up, and start the runlevel if a timeout is reached. However, the 'stop on runlevel' does *not* work as designed, because all the activity here is done in the pre-start script which upstart will not kill when the job target changes to stop: $ sudo start failsafe [1] 3979 vorlon@nvidia-8600m:~$ status failsafe failsafe start/pre-start, process 3981 vorlon@nvidia-8600m:~$ sudo stop failsafe [2] 3985 vorlon@nvidia-8600m:~$ status failsafefailsafe stop/pre-start, process 3981 failsafe stop/pre-start, process 3981 [1]- Donesudo start failsafe So the pre-start script continues sleeping, and continues sending messages to plymouth. If you happen to reboot the system within two minutes of startup, this results in the messages being printed on the splash screen at *shutdown*, which is rather confusing. To avoid this, I think the failsafe job should be switched to do its work in 'script' instead of 'pre-start script', and rc-sysinit changed to listen for an event emitted by the failsafe job at the end of this script instead of on 'started failsafe'.
