[Bug 874981] Re: Please merge/sync mcollective from debian wheezy

2011-11-13 Thread Dave Walker
Hi Marc,

Thanks for the updated debdiff.. I raised in the previous comment that I
couldn't see why were were deviating from Debian for the package descriptions,
such as:
-Description: Marionette Collective clustering framework - server
+Description: build server orchestration or parallel job execution systems

Please can you also confirm why were are switching from rabbitmq -
activemq. I don't remember there being decision on this. activemq is
in universe, and whilst this is ok as this package is in the same; it
seems odd to switch from a dependency which is in main to one which is
universe.

Thanks.

[Bug 874981] Re: Please merge/sync mcollective from debian wheezy

2011-11-13 Thread Marc Cluet
Hi Dave,

The deviated Descriptions should be okay in the last debdiff, I double
checked them all, hope I didn't miss any

About the switch, activemq is recommended by mcollective upstream and
debian also supports activemq for mcollective, we want to give the users
the convenience to still use rabbitmq-stomp if they wish so but we're
trying at the same time to get in line with the recommended ampq server.

[Bug 890036] [NEW] Please, sync Libvirt 0.9.7-2 with Debian unstable

2011-11-13 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Public bug reported:

It comes with a new URI alias feature, which will be particularly useful for
users of tools like virsh and virt-install.
In the same way that SSH allows you to setup hostname aliases in
$HOME/.ssh/config, libvirt will now allow you to setup URI aliases in
$HOME/.libvirt/libvirt.conf (if you are running unprivileged) or
/etc/libvirt/libvirt.conf (if you are running as root).
It also fixes some bugs in 0.9.6.

Hi,

I have Toshiba Satellite L640 and Ubuntu 11.10 installed on it.

But Ubuntu is not recognizing the batteries. It does not hibernate on low

Ubuntu 11.10 not showing the battery status correctly even after
recompilation done after editing acpi settings as said in the above
link , but the battery indicator is detected and showing the battery
status after compilation.but even if the battery is more than 80% it
some times show battery power is low.my battery is working correctly and
had no problems with the battery.

[Bug 835625] Re: apt may try to unpack a foreign-arch multiarch library before the native package is at a multiarch version, prohibited by dpkg

2011-11-13 Thread Michael Neuffer
@Steve comment #12:
Most likely he didn't change the logfile. THis is a known (but unfixed) bug of
gzip
which produces different output on different platforms when gzipping the same
file.

A whole bunch of other packages are affected by this as well, one of them
libtasn1-3
in version 2.10-1

Cheers

[Bug 889749] [NEW] gzip produces different output on different architectures

2011-11-13 Thread Michael Neuffer
Public bug reported:

Gzip produces different output when gzipping the same file on different
architectures.

This can for example be seen in the libtasn1-3 package in version 2.10-1 which
can not be installed
co-installed as AMD64 and i386 multiarch packages since dpkg detects
differences in the Changelog file.

Also see bug #835625 for another example.

[Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown

2011-11-13 Thread paul oakley
I may have identified the cause and have a workaround after researching
the network issues using the forums. Two modules have been loading for
the realtek wireless module and my system now seems to be stable after
blacklisting one of them :-

sudo echo blacklist rtl8192se /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

this problem also affects 11.04 but without the kernel panic.

[Bug 861061] Re: Unity makes 3D apps run much slower.

2011-11-13 Thread Sam Spilsbury
I think that the framebuffer object implementation in unity might be the
cause of the slowness.

Currently, on every frame, we will bind and unbind a framebuffer object
to capture the entire screen into, and then paint the entire screen on
to the display every time the display is painted (at around the same
time the nux stuff is blitted on to the screen). This is (obviously)
used to do the blurs, which are painted on top of the scene below the
nux widgets like the launcher and friends.

Doing glBindBuffer flushes the pipeline and (might?) block the CPU if I
remember correctly. I think that if the nux widgets don't need to be
updated, then nux doesn't draw anything or bind any buffers at all, and
the just blits its existing buffers into a running context (though, I
need to confirm here that WindowThread::renderFromForeignCmd) actually
does *only* that.

Daniel, can you do a quick measure of performance with UnityFBO::bind
(), UnityFBO::unbind and UnityFBO::paint set to return immediately ? If
it increases, then that is definitely the cause. I had a look into
whether or not this could be impacting performance a few months ago, but
I didn't notice any difference on my machine (nouveau 8600GT), but I
wasn't measuring the performance in that case.

I have some proof of concept code I wrote here a few months ago that
only binds framebuffer objects if the blurs need updating. I think that
if this is the cause of the slowness, then this would definitely be a
good solution, since we don't use the framebuffer objects for anything
else anyways.

[Bug 889758] [NEW] ezoom during a full-screened app brings Unity launcher and panel back

2011-11-13 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Fullscreen an application, e.g. evince
2. Notice that the launcher and panel disappears
3. Zoom in using ezoom (Super+wheel up)
4. Notice that the launcher and panel is back.

Considering that the launcher and panel were hidden away during the
fullscreening, I think it shouldn't return when zooming into a
fullscreened application.

[Bug 889761] [NEW] No detailed information on codec in file properties nautilus

2011-11-13 Thread bartje
Public bug reported:

When Gnome 2 still was in use, I easily could find the codec of for
example an avi file by right clicking and looking at its properties.
This was particularly useful when moving an avi file to a multimedia
player, since not all codecs are supported by media players.

Now, since Ubuntu 11.10, I have to open the file in for example vlc and
search for the information I need, only to know if it can play on my
multimedia player. This is quite a hassle for something that used to be
very easy in Gnome 2.

Is this another regression (like not being able to choose an app from a
custom location to open a file with)?

It really starts to be frustrating that in Gnome simple things like
these are overlooked. If it is because of the focus on ease of use, I
can guarantee this is not an example of 'ease of use'. On the contrary,
it makes the use of linux more complicated. Not everybody knows how to
find the information I described, but I'm sure many people would benefit
having this info available in Nautilus.

[Bug 886532] Re: gkrellm crashes - segmentation fault - calendar (create_monitor)

2011-11-13 Thread Surak
After almost crashing my system by unsinstalling gnome components that I
supposed not be necessary anymore I finally got my kubuntu working
again. Some programs were missing, I managed to reinstall them, like
flashplugin-installer (i tried to use ubuntu.mirror.pop-sc.mp.br but I
got a 404 file-not-found error. I tried ubuntu-archive.locaweb.com.br
but it pointed to a non-existent 11.0 version of flash, then changed to
official canonical brazilian server and was able to reinstall it. Also
reinstalled chromium-browser and opera brower from their deb repository.

Then I gave it a try and... guess what? gkrellm is running again...
Sorry, but I just can't figure out what package fixed it. Though, when
installing flashplugin-installer it installs libpango1.0, libfontconfig1
and suggestive names like libfreetype6.

[Bug 881792] Re: System will not power down after shutdown

2011-11-13 Thread Csimbi
I have nearly the same problem as the original poster.
Ubuntu server, 64bit.
I just upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 (Zotac ITX board) - and I did not change
any settings in the process so it should work as before.
But.
The system will not power off when it's supposed to - which is scheduled to
happen at 23:00 every day (via cron).
It will halt the system but it will not cut the power; I have to hold down the
power button to cut the power.
The last two messages are:
* Will now halt...
[ 174.941747] System halted.
Thanks for fixing.

[Bug 859075] Re: Oneiric does not shutdown

2011-11-13 Thread Csimbi
I have nearly the same problem as the original poster.
Ubuntu server, 64bit.
I just upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 (Zotac ITX board) - and I did not change
any settings in the process so it should work as before.
But.
The system will not power off when it's supposed to - which is scheduled to
happen at 23:00 every day (via cron).
It will halt the system but it will not cut the power; I have to hold down the
power button to cut the power.
The last two messages are:
* Will now halt...
[ 174.941747] System halted.
Thanks for fixing.

Same as Bug #881792, Bug #809628 and Bug #880240.

[Bug 861061] Re: Unity makes 3D apps run much slower.

2011-11-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks Sam.

Confirmed the bug does go away when I disable UnityFBO::bind (),
UnityFBO::unbind and UnityFBO::paint. Of course, that disables all the
nice blurring, but now I get full frame rate from all apps (!)

I only had this bug in progress because I thought I had fixed it with
other compiz optimizations, but they are hit and miss. Fixing UnityFBO
looks like an infinitely better solution. I'll probably get it done this
week.

Workaround:
Created a script sshfs in /etc/network/if-down.d containning:

killall sshfs
sleep 1s
killall -9 sshfs

Created a script autofs in /etc/network/if-up.d containing:

Thanks Daniel.

The BackgroundEffectHelper class has a static list of active blur regions,
when that's zero, I'd say just don't bind the framebuffers (but you will
need to do glCopyTexSubImage2D into the framebuffer once you enable the
framebuffers again to avoid artifacts)

The previous version had an issue with some extensions which I fixed by
changing a few lines in some files. I posted the fix here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1874010 (I am phDaemon)

However, this one seems to be way more messed up and my old fix no
longer applies (although it still does get rid of a few of the errors).

I'm going to try to see if i can work around this and find a fix for
this bug too (although the devs fixing it would be the most ideal, since
mine are just workarounds).

[Bug 754214] Re: some applications always start with maximized windows

2011-11-13 Thread Antti P Miettinen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 797808 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/797808

I think the title of bug 797808 is not what I see to be a solution. I'd
like to be able to simply disable the auto maximize feature.

The compiz config setting does not help ubuntu 2D a.k.a. unity 2D
environment. If you want to get rid of auto maximize in 2D env, set
/apps/metacity/general/auto_maximize_windows gconf key to false.

Re: [Compiz] [Bug 861061] Re: Unity makes 3D apps run much slower.

2011-11-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, I'll take a good look another day.

Only one question: Is it acceptable to disable the panel blur for people
who have non-standard unity plugin settings like me? (panel opacity 1.0)

Given panel opacity is meant to be 1.0, I don't *think* that would be
breaking the unity design (?)

Also, disabling the blur when the dash is not visible would probably
 solve bug 865006.

[Bug 797808] Re: Window auto-maximise functionality should be disabled on monitors with a resolution above 1024 x 600

2011-11-13 Thread Antti P Miettinen
I think the title of this bug is not what I see to be a solution. I'd
like to be able to simply disable the auto maximize feature.

The compiz config setting does not help ubuntu 2D a.k.a. unity 2D
environment. If you want to get rid of auto maximize in 2D env, set
/apps/metacity/general/auto_maximize_windows gconf key to false.

[Bug 889766] [NEW] Program unresponsive while editing

2011-11-13 Thread Artur Glavic
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 the program stops responding while
editing the text. It seems to be related to saving the document as it
does not occur when I often manually save after entering text and
without saving I cannot write more than 5-10 lines of code before it
hangs.

I tried this with the Ubuntu version of eric and with the latest release on the
website, both with the same results.
Before the upgrade I was also using python 2.7 so it seems to be an issue of
one of the modules eric uses, e.g. qscintilla.

[Bug 889427] Re: radeon takes over 100 seconds to suspend to memory

2011-11-13 Thread jcdutton
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric

** Description changed:

Please see below an example of it taking 113 seconds to suspend to RAM/memory
If I switch to console (CTRL-ALT-F1) and stop lightdm so that X is stopped,
suspend happens immediately.
So, I have tracked this down to a problem with the radeon driver.
