[Bug 894279] Re: cloud-init fails to fetch metadata with OpenStack

2011-11-29 Thread Juerg Haefliger
I agree that Nova needs to be fixed but we need a cloud-init fix for the
current Nova as well. As for running an API server on each compute node,
I don't think that's a viable solution for our environment. We've
modified memcached to cache the metadata requests and that seems to help
make things faster.

I see your point about the metadata service not being ready in time. Do you
know how long it can take for the service to become ready? How about a smarter
sleeptime that always increases (linearly) from 1 to 20 secs (or some
configurable upper limit)?
sleeptime = int(19 * x / (sleeps - 1)) + 1
With that, the 5 retries would happen over a time of 51 secs (1, 5, 10, 15, 20
sec sleeps in between the 5 requests).

[Bug 855711] [NEW] Bacula director not listening

2011-11-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

found the cause for Bacula director not listening on port 9101. This is
on a fresh install of 11.04 server. updates had been applied as of this
am (9-21-2011) prior to attempting install of bacula. The error stems
from the automatically generated bacula-dir.conf file in the DB section.

  dbname = bacula; DB Address = ; dbuser = bacula; dbpassword =
autogeneratedpwd
}

The problem is in the DBNAME variable.  it should be set to bacula;
move the semicolon outside the quotes and it works.

Being new to this I am not certain if this is a packaging problem
specific to Ubuntu server or not. I have successfully installed bacula
on numerous Ubuntu machines. This is the first time there was a
problem.

[Bug 607039] Re: NFS4 automount using replicated servers doesn't work

2011-11-29 Thread Stefan Bader
So as expected upstream was not too exited about a change to the kernel
module. In fact the answer was suggesting that using the fstype nfs4 is
rather deprecated. And I was observing that even using mount -tnfs ...
the resulting mount options which could be observed in cat
/proc/mounts were the same as using nfs4. Unfortunately the man pages
for mount (and probably other too) do not reflect this at all.

[Bug 676819] Re: Attaching a volume to a pending instance claims success, but never attaches.

2011-11-29 Thread Dmitrii Zagorodnov
Luca - thanks for the patch! Looks like your solution is the right one
for KVM. I'd like to ensure that volume attachments continue to work on
Xen (driver name 'phy' is Xen-specific, which used to be ignored by QEMU
until recently). So a bit of extra logic may be necessary to
differentiate XML generated for Xen and KVM. I'll test and will get back
to you.

[Bug 852349] Re: sqlite2 support

2011-11-29 Thread Micah Gersten
Users who need sqlite2 support should probably stay on the 10.04 LTS
which has support on the server until April 2015. As Ondřej Surý
mentioned, sqlite2 has been deprecated for 5 years now upstream and by
the time that 10.04 has reached its end-of-life, it'll be almost 10. I
don't believe that this should be added back to precise to give people
an extra 2 years of support for a long deprecated library.

Disabling it in a container should be done in the same way as will be
done for skipping select mounts in mountall. The intent is that it will
be done as part of the servercloud-p-lxc blueprint.

- and the error is actually an openssl error.

it turns out that there was a variable in openssl.cnf, pointing to a
file which didn't exist [inadvertently left over from some other
modifications made to openssl.cnf]:

private_key = $dir/private/cakey.pem

removing this line from the config allows rndc-confgen to complete
successfully, and thus the package installation completes successfully:

[Bug 637114] Re: Large multiget requests randomly broken

2011-11-29 Thread Clint Byrum
Uploaded fix to lucid-proposed.

** Changed in: memcached (Ubuntu Lucid)
   Status: Triaged = Fix Committed

** Description changed:

+ == SRU REPORT ==
+
+ IMPACT: users who try to use memcached with large multi-gets will get a
+ cache miss every time.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ * install php5-cli and php5-memcached
+ * run this code using 'php':
+
+ $m = new Memcached();
+ $m-addServer('localhost', 11211);
+ $keys = array();
+ for ($i=0; $i5; $i++) {
+   $key =
'xx::foo::'
 . $i;
+   $keys[] = $key;
+ }
+ $result = $m-getMulti($keys, $cas);
+ var_dump($result, $cas);
+ var_dump($m-getResultCode());
+
+ * Result if affected by bug will be:
+ bool(false)
+ NULL
+ int(19)
+
+ * Result if fixed will be:
+
+ array(0) {
+ }
+ array(0) {
+ }
+ int(0)
+
+ REGRESSION POTENTIAL: This change makes the patch *more* like the
+ upstream fix, which has been in every version of memcached since Ubuntu
+ 10.10, and has not caused regressions.
+
+ ==
+
+
  Binary package hint: memcached

  * Ubuntu release.

-   Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
-   Release:10.04
+   Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
+   Release:10.04

  * How to reproduce the bug?

  Send several large multiget requests to a Ubuntu 1.4.2 Memcached server,
  and you'll notice that some of them will break, and other will return
  only a subset of the requested keys. You can use the following PHP test
  code:

  $m = new Memcached();
  $m-addServer('localhost', 11211);
  $keys = array();
  for ($i=0; $i5; $i++) {
-   $key =
'xx::foo::'
 . $i;
-   $keys[] = $key;
+   $key =
'xx::foo::'
 . $i;
+   $keys[] = $key;
  }
  $result = $m-getMulti($keys, $cas);
  var_dump($result, $cas);
  var_dump($m-getResultCode());

-
  * How to fix de bug?

  Rebuilding the server without the fix-issue-102-segfault fix-ubuntu-
  ftbfs patches fixes that bug for us.

[Bug 897243] Re: Dell PowerEdge 2900/2950 crashing with Ubuntu Server 11.10

2011-11-29 Thread szg28
Plus information, the new, 3.0.0.xxx-general kernel (I can just boot
these) don't see the official, latest DELL OMSA virtualdisk after
install.

It's working our all servers of 2.6.3x kernel (eg. Ubuntu Server
10.04.03 LTS or the latest Debian 6.0.3) fine.

The output:

# omreport storage vdisk
No virtual disks found

# omreport storage controller
No controllers found

Maybe this is a branch 3.0 kernel problem, too.

How about a smarter
sleeptime that always increases (linearly) from 1 to 20 secs (or some
configurable upper limit)?
sleeptime = int(19 * x / (sleeps - 1)) + 1
With that, the 5 retries would happen over a time of 51 secs (1, 5, 10, 15, 20
sec sleeps in between the 5 requests).

2011-11-29 Thread Ike Panhc
Talked to upstream maintainer, we would like to confirm this is the
patch which introduce the phy0 rfkill regression.

Please help me with the following test.

1. Install kernel debs at http://people.canonical.com/~ikepanhc/lp/875659-3/
2. Reboot to use the new kernel deb
3. Test and see if the wifi works
4. Attach the output of `dmesg` and `rfkill list`

And repeat the above process with kernel debs at

RE: [Bug 817101] Re: ettercap produces Error 11 and runs out of resources

2011-11-29 Thread Eric Milam
I haven't had a chance to test it. I'm on an internal pen test. Right
now its 3 am and I'm working on a report YUCK!

I can test it when I get home this weekend and get you some feedback.
Will that work?

Title:
  ettercap produces Error 11 and runs out of resources

Status in “ettercap” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  OS: Ubuntu 10.04 2GB RAM 2 Processors (Is patched with the latest
  updated from the repos)

  Issue:
  I was poisoning 22 victims, ettercap lasted roughly 10 minutes before it
closed with the following message:
  ERROR : 11, Resource temporarily unavailable
  [ec_threads.c:ec_thread_new:203]

   not enough resources to create a new thread in this process

  I found this in my research, apparently its from the Ettercap forums/bug list
from 2004:
  It's a known issue because pthread_exit seems to not free correctly threads'
memory.
  We are investigating this problem.

  My etter.conf has the ec_uid gid set to 0 and the proper iptables
  redirs uncommented.

  I have experienced this issue with ettercap installs from both the
  Ubuntu repos  compiling from source.

  ulimit is set to unlimited:
  root@blank:~# ulimit -Ha
  core file size (blocks, -c) unlimited
  data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
  scheduling priority (-e) 20
  file size   (blocks, -f) unlimited
  pending signals (-i) 16382
  max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64
  max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
  open files  (-n) 1024
  pipe size(512 bytes, -p) 8
  POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200
  real-time priority  (-r) 0
  stack size  (kbytes, -s) unlimited
  cpu time   (seconds, -t) unlimited
  max user processes  (-u) unlimited
  virtual memory  (kbytes, -v) unlimited
  file locks  (-x) unlimited

  As a workaround I set my max threads to 123,456,789 up from 39K. It
  still ran out of resources after about 15 minutes.

  I am not a developer, but in reading up on pthreads, it looks like you
  have to specify joinable if you use pthread_join and the code does
  not appear to do this. However, I know nothing about pthreads and am
  still learning the basics of C.

[Bug 543397] Re: does not terminate at computer shutdown

2011-11-29 Thread LocutusOfBorg
I don't understand what this bug does it mean.

At computer shutdown *clearly* ettercap stops doing its job (like arp
poisoning)

and of course if you don't shut down ettercap properly attacked pcs
won't reach the ip poisoned until their wrong arp cache will timeout...

Imho this isn't a bug, please add further information if I misunderstood
your report.

[Bug 883030] Re: /usr/lib/libGL.so symlink missing

2011-11-29 Thread eile
I think it is in fact not a bug. In previous Ubuntu versions there was a
symlink from /usr/lib/libGL.so to the specific library, which was
cached by CMake on my system. Restarting the CMakeCache resolves this
issue.

Hey Sebastien, when I run /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-smb-browse, everything goes
well and no mistakes returned.

 Thank you for your bug report, could you run /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-smb-
 browse on a command line (stop any running instance then run it), does
 it give errors when you try to browse in nautilus?

  SAMBA network not showing in Nautilus Browse Network option

 Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

 Bug description:
  1)Ubuntu version = 11.10
  2) today, Oct 27 2011 installed updates, which included cups and nautilus
 related packages together with 120 other packages.
  3) Opening Nautilus clicking on Browse Network must show my existing
 Windows Samba Network as it used to before update.
  SAMBA shared network printer configured before is expected to print.
  4) Instead: Nautilus shows only Windows Network icon and no existing
 network.
  preconfigured SAMBA printer is not available anymore. Adding printer via
 existing SAMBA network gives the same result: existing SAMBA network cannot
 be found.
  At the same time SAMBA printer disappeared and can't be found either.

  NOTE: the same thing happened when I last updated nautilus packages in
  Ubuntu 11.04, which is why I upgraded to 11.10, but now I'm facing the
  same problem.

  SEVERITY: this is really a problem, because I can't browse my Windows
  share on the office server, nor print a document on a shared printer.

[Bug 886315] Re: Filezilla crash drag and drop crash in gnome-shell

2011-11-29 Thread Dirk Hoeschen
I have the same problem on 64 bit Ubutnu and I have a serious question
now

Since several releases Filezilla ist absolutely unstable and nearly unusable
with Ubuntu.
Why must I manually install files from an external reposity in order to get
this fixed?

This is not only an effect its a serious BUG

Sorry... but enough is enough: As soon as my time allows it, I will
switch back to Debian.

[Bug 439796] Re: Corrupted /var/lib/dpkg/status

2011-11-29 Thread Gabe Gorelick
Good point, but dpkg doesn't need to hide it completely. What's wrong
with using the backup file but also notifying the user (through a direct
warning or maybe through a logging statement) about the problem? That
way, novice users (that can't even manage to figure out how to use the
old file) aren't left with a system that can't receive any updates, and
they know that they need to maybe look into geting a new hard drive.

[Bug 897575] [NEW] Compiz Grid Put Left, Put Right, Put Top Right don't work as expected.

2011-11-29 Thread Andreas Grois
Public bug reported:

In previous Ubuntu versions one could change the width of a window by
pressing the key combinations of Compiz' Grid plugin multiple times. For
instance, sending a window to Left made it fill half of the screen the
first time the key combination was pressed. After pressing it a second
time, the window took 1/3, then 1/4, then 2/3 and after a fifth
keypress it took 3/4 of the screen. For all positions, except Left,
Right and Top Right this still works as it should. However, this is no
longer possible for Left and Right. The window always fills half of the
screen, no matter how often one presses the key combination. This makes
efficient window placement quite difficult, because one has to do it
manually, since for nearly all use cases, a simple 1/2-1/2-Split is not
sufficient. It's also impossible to position a window in the top right
corner, for Top Right and Top both place it just at the Top of the
screen (centered).

[Bug 893826] Re: symlinked docs are different between architectures, depending on dpkg-deb package order

2011-11-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package pkgbinarymangler - 107

---
pkgbinarymangler (107) precise; urgency=low

  * test/run, test_doc_symlink(): Simplify installation of Makefile.
  * test/run, test_doc_symlink(): Introduce some test library binary packages
to check handling of transitive dependencies.
  * pkgstripfiles, symlink_doc(): If the link destination target is itself a
link, resolve it to directly link to the final target instead of not
symlinking the file at all.
  * test/run: Add new test cases test_doc_symlink_parallel_{fixed,unlimited}()
which run the symlink test with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS parallel=4 and
parallel respectively. Run through them three times as this is a race
condition and does not trigger every time. This reproduces LP #893826.
  * Add dh_builddeb: Wrapper around the debhelper command which filters out
the parallel option from $DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. We must not run dpkg-deb in
parallel as this breaks a predictable doc symlink structure which we
require for multi-arch. (LP: #893826)
  * debian/pkgbinarymangler.install: Install dh_builddeb wrapper.
  * debian/pkgbinarymangler.{preinst,postrm}: Set up diversion for
dh_builddeb.
