Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lxc into oneiric-proposed. The package will build now and be
available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

[Bug 925028] Re: apparmor breaks lxc-start-ephemeral (apparmor+overlayfs returns -EINVAL)

2012-02-03 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 926160] [NEW] precise cloud-images significantly larger than oneiric

2012-02-03 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

See below for detail, but basically from oneiric released images to
precise images, we've grown from root filesystem used of 762M to 973M.
That is 27% size increase.

This compares what I found on
   ubuntu-oneiric-11.10-arch-server-20120108
   ubuntu-precise-daily-arch-server-20120202

The .img and .tar.gz files on cloud-images have grown also, but
strangely it seems less. comparing alpha-2 from precise to last release
of oneiric (20120108) shows:

-- | 11.10 | prec | %growth
amd64 disk.img | 218M | 228M | 4.8
amd64 .tar.gz_ | 207M | 217M | 4.6
amd64 ebs df__ | 762M | 973M | 27.6
amd64 inst df_ | 655M | 823M | 25.6
i386_ disk.img | 198M | 210M | 6.0
i386_ .tar.gz_ | 188M | 200M | 6.3
i386_ ebs df__ | 689M | 814M | 18.1
i386_ inst df_ | 582M | 753M | 29.3

(Note, precise df numers are from daily build 20120108, 1 day after
alpha2)

I suspect that part of the discrepancy between instance and ebs is
somehow related to how we populate them. In the build process, the
instance store builds are done into a 1.4G filesystem, and then that is
grown (resize2fs) to 10G before publishing to EC2. The EBS population
script downloads the 1.4GB filesystem image, creates a filesystem on a
8G disk, then mounts it loopback and rsync's the data from the image to
the new filesystem. (Essentially, mkfs is done on a 1.4G filesystem,
and one is done on a 8G filesystem).

So i have the following separate issues raised from above:
 * why such a dramatic growth between 11.10 and 12.04 current
 * can we/should we get the EBS filesystem usage more in line with
instance-store?
 * Why the vast outlier below in increased usage of ebs for a given
release-arch:
   oneiric-amd64: 16%
   oneiric-i386: 18%
   precise-amd64: 18%
   precise-i386: 8%

2012-02-03 Thread Scott Moser
** Attachment added: data collected from each of the 8 instances i ran.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926160/+attachment/2710789/+files/data-collected.tar.gz

** Description changed:

See below for detail, but basically from oneiric released images to
precise images, we've grown from root filesystem used of 762M to 973M.
  That is 27% size increase.

This compares what I found on
-ubuntu-oneiric-11.10-arch-server-20120108
-ubuntu-precise-daily-arch-server-20120202
+    ubuntu-oneiric-11.10-arch-server-20120108
+    ubuntu-precise-daily-arch-server-20120202

The .img and .tar.gz files on cloud-images have grown also, but
strangely it seems less. comparing alpha-2 from precise to last release
  of oneiric (20120108) shows:

  -- | 11.10 | prec | %growth
  amd64 disk.img | 218M | 228M | 4.8
- amd64 .tar.gz | 207M | 217M | 4.6
- amd64 ebs df | 762M | 973M | 27.6
- amd64 inst df | 655M | 823M | 25.6

+ i386_ ebs df__ | 689M | 814M | 18.1
+ i386_ inst df_ | 582M | 753M | 29.3

- * why such a dramatic growth between 11.10 and 12.04 current
- * can we/should we get the EBS filesystem usage more in line with
instance-store?
- * Why the vast outlier below in increased usage of ebs for a given
release-arch:
-oneiric-amd64: 16%
-oneiric-i386: 18%
-precise-amd64: 18%

Note, the automatic running of 'apt-get update' had run on the amd64

That is in this tarball.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-cfjuju] Juju: Configuration Management for Juju

2012-02-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Blueprint changed by Clint Byrum:

Whiteboard changed:
  Work Items:
[lynxman] write puppet external node classifier for juju status - puppet:
TODO
[lynxman] write puppet facter integration out of juju status information:
TODO
- [clint-fewbar] Start project for recovering useful information out of juju
status: TODO
+ [clint-fewbar] Start project for recovering useful information out of juju
status ( https://launchpad.net/juju-jitsu ): DONE
[juju] after colocation investigate cli interface for local / arbitrary unit
/ relation info: TODO

  Session notes:

We have detected a need for DSL integration in Juju, this would mean
that any of the current configuration management applications available.

  Advantages
  * Faster implementation of juju on running platforms
  * Faster testing of juju on individual nodes
  * Complements the amazing capabilities of juju with some node specific
templating

  TALKING POINTS
  * What can DSL integration provide to juju
    - How it can complement the juju ecosystem
  * Ways to export through a RESTful interface metadata from Juju
    - Ensure freshfulness statefulness of data
  * Ways to implement this so Juju can action on this without problem
    - Charm integration
    - Ways of informing back to juju about provides from DSL systems
  * Finding ways around the SPOFs
    - How to survive in case of miscommunication or recoverable failure

Juju roadmap right now has priority on colocation
Colocation can be used in colocation mode as well
Colocated service has access to filesystem services (whichever they are) and
can establish master/slave relationships with the master unit
Juju charms can trigger an update of the facter information since it's always
stateful, it can be a trigger on the update hook
So far the best action would be to query the CLI (juju status) and its a very
effective way to recover information from juju in a quick (albeit slightly
dirty) way

  ACTIONS
[lynxman] write puppet external node classifier for juju status - puppet
[clint-fewbar] Start project for recovering useful information out of juju
status
[juju] after colocation investigate cli interface for local / arbitrary unit
/ relation info

[Bug 924739] Re: after upgrade from oneiric to precise squid only returns 403

2012-02-03 Thread Adam Gandelman
@Jean-Baptiste:

The issue is that precise has transitioned to squid3. The new location
for squid.conf is /etc/squid3/squid.conf. After upgrade, squid(3) was
restarted using the default packaged config that was installed at
/etc/squid3/squid.conf after update. Replacing
/etc/squid3/squid.conf with yours, I squid3 restarted and read the
correct config, however, there were still some issues:

# squid3 -N
2012/02/03 19:26:02| WARNING: (B) '::/0' is a subnetwork of (A) '::/0'
2012/02/03 19:26:02| WARNING: because of this '::/0' is ignored to keep splay
tree searching predictable
2012/02/03 19:26:02| WARNING: You should probably remove '::/0' from the ACL
named 'all'
2012/02/03 19:26:02| ERROR: Directive 'upgrade_http0.9' is obsolete.
2012/02/03 19:26:02| cache_cf.cc(381) parseOneConfigFile: squid.conf:2993
unrecognized: 'broken_vary_encoding'
2012/02/03 19:26:02| ERROR: Directive 'extension_methods' is obsolete.

IIRC, 'broken_vary_encoding' has been removed from valid config options
in squid3. Commenting out line 2993 your config (now located at
/etc/squid3/squid.conf) got squid back up and running as a functional
proxy.

I'm going to update bug topic and raise to Critical because transition
problems like these are going to cause considerable pain for anyone
dependent on a squid for normal operation.

** Changed in: squid3 (Ubuntu Precise)
   Importance: High = Critical

** Changed in: squid3 (Ubuntu Precise)

- after upgrade from oneiric to precise squid only returns 403

[Bug 498987] Re: vlan

2012-02-03 Thread Stéphane Graber
Ok, this can be caused by several things.
One would be a race condition between bridge-utils and vlan, this got fixed in
Precise so it'd be interesting for you to test with Precise alpha-2.
Another could be the switch between the two machines eating the tags, I've
seen that happen on some cheap devices like wireless routers (wrt54gl being one
of them).
And yet another problem could be the network driver not working with VLANs,
I've seen this with some older version of the nvidia ethernet driver.

Anyway, as a first step I think it'd be best if you could test this on Ubuntu
Precise alpha-2 (or later) and if it still happens, then give details regarding:
 - exact hardware in both machines
 - exact model of switch
 - same test using crossover cable
 - /var/log/kernel.log for both machines
 - /var/log/syslog for both machines

Thanks

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP+SSL breaks setuid applications like su, sudo, apache2 suexec, and atd

2012-02-03 Thread nutznboltz
According to Andreas Metzler
http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2011/02/msg6.html
{{ GnuTLS upstream has added support for different crypto backends in
2.11.x and has chosen nettle as prefered backend (2.10.x is using
libgcrypt). }}

I have started to experiment with using a gnutls26 package with nettle
instead of libgcrypt11 on Ubuntu 12.04.

I have yet to adjust the gnutls26 package dependencies, at this point
I just cheat and install nettle-dev manually:

sudo apt-get install nettle-dev

Then I

apt-get source gnutls26

to fetch the source for gnutls26-2.12.14

chop out
--with-libgcrypt
from debian/rules

bump the package version in debian/changelog to 2.12.14-5ubuntu2.1

and rebuild with

debuild -i -uc -us -b

then I put a checkpoint on the VM and install the package:

dpkg -i libgnutls26_2.12.14-5ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb

but then sudo works on my LDAP+SSL client.

now and to me this is now a GnuTLS backend selection bug.

I put the patched gnutls into this PPA as my preferred solution.

[Bug 917134] Re: dbrd8 kernel module and padlock-sha kernel module in deadlock

2012-02-03 Thread Adam Gandelman
Hi Jens-

Thanks for reporting this. This sounds like a tough one to debug, any
chance you've hit this again since reporting? I assume this is on a
production system and there's no chance of you trying to reproduce on
demand. In the event that you do hit this again, before rebooting, can
you capture the output of 'dmesg', 'cat /proc/drbd', 'ps aux | grep D
' and 'netstat -ntp | grep 7788' (or whatever port the resource is
configured to use) from both nodes. Also syslogs from both nodes would
be helpful as well as your drbd.conf (with any sensitive information
edited)

When you say your device got messed up, do you mean there was divergent
data on both nodes or that they disconnected and were required to carry
out a normal resync?

Ok, looking at the precise tree, this bug is not valid there as that

Robie, Daviey, it's possible I'm misreading, but it seems to me this
should be marked Fix Released for precise, and Robie's debdiff should be
updated to apply to oneiric-proposed's version (which still has the
bug).

[Bug 925315] Re: [Patch][Precise]Enable LZO support

2012-02-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Great idea David. The patch needs a little work:

First, reference this bug# in the changelog entry as (LP: #925315)

Second, you do not need to pre-depend on the library. It will be linked
in and automatically added to Depends: by ${shlibs:Depends}. Pre-Depends
are only things that are needed to run the preinst maintainer script,
which you definitely don't need here.

Third, the version should be 5.2.3-0ubuntu3 instead of 5.2.3-0ubuntud.
You would have gotten that automatically if you had run 'dch -i' to edit
the changelog.

Once you've uploaded an updated patch, make sure to subscribe ubuntu-
sponsors to this bug, and somebody will take a look at the patch ASAP.

Finally, THANKS!

[Bug 806782] Re: package php5-fpm 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-02-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Mohammed. I know this was a long time ago. Do you still have the
affected system? I'm guessing that you had installed php5-fpm before,
then removed /etc/php5/fpm/main.conf , then removed the package (but not
purged). dpkg respects a removed config file so the next time you
install, it won't be resurrected.

If thats the case, you could have done

dpkg --force-confmiss -i
/var/cache/apt/archives/php5-fpm_5.3.5-1ubuntu7.2_i386.deb

Which would have brought back the config file.

Please try that and report back if you are still affected. Thanks!

[Bug 924337] Re: lxc on precise is not working with lucid containers (container does not reach runlevel 2)

2012-02-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
It turns out the original problem never went away. The container never
gets a net-device-up event for lo, even in precise. You can verify this
trivially with two upstart jobs, /etc/init/lxc{lo,eth}.conf:

 lxclo.conf
description detect net-device-up IFACE=lo
start on net-device-up IFACE=lo
 lxceth.conf ===
description detect net-device-up IFACE=eth0
start on net-device-up IFACE=eth0

Start the container and check 'status lxclo' and 'status lxceth'.

The reason this happens is clear in /etc/network/if-up.d/upstart. The reason
this stopped mattering is that rc-sysinit.conf switched from being

start on filesystem and net-device-up IFACE=lo

to being

start on (filesystem and static-network-up) or failsafe-boot

Where static-network-up does not require lo to come up.

be integrated into Oneiric's bamfdaemon so that this bug can be fixed in
an ordinary update.

[Bug 925719] Re: Audio not working (no sound at all) since 3.2.0-11

2012-02-03 Thread David Henningsson
Hi Janne and thanks for trying out the development version of Ubuntu!

I believe this bug is very similar to bug 923409, and is fixed by the
same patch. So it should work again in 3.2.0-13, which is currently
being built.

Can you verify whether it works or not with kernel 3.2.0-13? Thanks!

Thanks Bryce. I have since disposed of this laptop (to a family member,

sorry.

Is there going to be a way to restore old behaviour (i.e. more windows

[Bug 893091]

2012-02-03 Thread Simon McVittie
(In reply to comment #80)
I was using the python3 branch. I did not realise that it
 was allready merged into master.

I've deleted the python3 branch (Barry's version, now merged) and the
old py3k branch (John's version, not directly merged but used as
inspiration by Barry) to avoid confusion.

Who do we need to ping to get
 http://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-python/NEWS.html updated?

Me, apparently... it seems I forgot dbus-python releases work.
Everything should be up to date now.
