2012-02-24 Thread Scott Moser
I'm moving this back to ec2-ami-tools.
If this bug is still present, its fix is in that package. I do not think it is
still present.

The one thing i'm not sure of is if the fix was ever applied to
backports. If not, we should probably just put a newer version (like
one from precise) back to backports.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server - Hadoop

2012-02-24 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
  Status 20122501

Dev packages avaliable for hadoop, hive, pig, hbase and hadoop-zookeeper
  in http://launchpad.net/~hadoop-ubuntu/+archive/dev

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hadoop-ubuntu/dev

  Target versions of Hadoop components:

  hadoop-1.0.0
  hcatalog-0.2.0
  pig-0.9.1
  hbase-0.92.0
  hive-0.8.1
  zookeeper-3.4.3

Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something
devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari
assumptions?
A: No idea - one to ask Matt

  Package naming:

  hadoop
  hcatalog
  pig
  hbase
  hive

Packages that target partner CANNOT have the same name as packages in
the main archive so zookeeper will be:

  hadoop-zookeeper

This will prevent and conflicts with the zookeeper package in the main
  archive.

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
   - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process.
Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process.
Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via
hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we
create.
Patches may be required for native build components.
Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be
applied where appropriate.
--- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir
Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default).
Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ...
Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g.
./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar?
A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which
includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just
re-use these jars etc...

  Challenges:

hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches)
  JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a
specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth
re-using.
java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu
(generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro).
Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration
option to secure a cluster.
Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If
so, I can do the charm work.j
Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up
affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as
well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not
have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts.

Status in “augeas” source package in Natty:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
Version 0.8.0, the latest for Natty, is suspect to multiple bugs
solved by 0.8.1, including not being able to parse the default sudoers
permissions syntax (`ALL:ALL`) as well as not being able to read the
`#includedir` directive.  Thus, the default sudoers file can't be
properly managed in Natty via puppet and augeas.  Running augtool to
check for problems points to parsing errors for these lines in the
  configuration file.

[Bug 940604] [NEW] lxc-start-ephemeral ignores command

2012-02-24 Thread Benji York
Public bug reported:

When using the facility of passing a command to lxc-start-ephemeral
I can't get even the simplest command to work (i.e., touch).

This is on an EC2 instance running oneiric. LXC version
0.7.5-0ubuntu8.4.

Here's the exact command line:

lxc-start-ephemeral -o lptests -b /var/lib/buildbot/ -- /bin/touch
/tmp/hi

When I then lxc-console into the container and look in /tmp, the file
isn't there.

[Bug 924739] Re: after upgrade from oneiric to precise, previous squid config unused, cannot be used when relocated

2012-02-24 Thread Adam Gandelman
The following is a list of configuration options from 2.7 that have not
been ported to squid3, as of 3.19:

http://squidcache.cybermirror.org/squid/squid-3.1.19-RELEASENOTES.html#ss6.1

There are many. Currently, squid3 will fail to parse config + start if
any of these yet-to-be-ported options exists in config. So, while we
can work around the default config file location in packaging, there is
still two issues:

1. squid3 cannot parse the default config that ships with squid(v2).
There is a config directive 'broken_vary_encoding' included there that
will cause squid3 bailout on startup. If there config file has been
modified by user (most likely), any of the options described in the
document linked above will cause squid to fail.

2. Even if we patch squid to only warn on these config issues and
continue startup, the user expectations will be unmet in terms of
functionality. If a user has come to depend on any of the yet-to-be-
ported features, their proxy will be broken or, at the least, behave
differently post-transition.

[Bug 940780] Re: nova-volume fails to start: OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/lock/nova'

It appears this is a packaging issue, as nova-volume.upstart does not create
/var/lock/nova like other nova-* jobs. We should check that all nova-*

periodic task to all nova services that will fail if the directory is

[Bug 903121] Re: crystalspace 1.4.0+dfsg-4ubuntu2 fails to build with cegui-mk2 0.7.5-7

2012-02-24 Thread Philip Wyett
Dear release team,

Could you consider and exception to allow version 2.0 of Crystal Space
into the next release?

The update to 2.0 is required due to:

  - 1.4 series is an old release. Years old.
  - 1.4 series does not support the latest cegui (see comments above).
  - The Crystal Space project will not port to support the latest cegui in 1.4,
due to API changes etc. in such an old releases series.
(see comments above).
  - 2.0 supports the latest cegui.
  - 2.0 is more stable than 1.4.
  - 2.0 has more features.
  - 2.0 fully supports ARM builds.

A fully tested 2.0 in ubuntu will have no direct impact on the overall
OS.

Please ask if any other additional info is required.

[Bug 616447] Re: Quit does not actually quit applications

2012-02-24 Thread frederik.nnaji
if it doesn't quit, don't call it quit.
That's the law of correspondence.

Please simply correct the label to close wherever you know that it doesn't
make the process tree of an application's pid quit.
This is already known to be valid for the quicklist quit entries of
Rhythmbox, Empathy and Transmission.

It is clearly wrong to afford a button labeled Quit, well knowing that it
will NOT make anything quit. We're actually cheating the user, some people
consider this a security issue, some might consider it an intrusion.
This is trivial, so it needs to be fixed wherever reported.

Analysing the dependency tree of a pid together with its associated
frontend application and window set is a whole other task, which has
nothing to do with labelling a button or list item correctly.

[Bug 928338] Re: Userpics are stretched in conversation view

2012-02-24 Thread Aleksandr Chepurnoy
It’s quite diffucult to reproduce, if you don’t have anyone with non-square
userpics in contact list.
To reproduce, just chat with someone who has rectangular userpic.

On you screenshot, the userpic is actually square (even if it doesn’t
look so). Notice the round corners on your and my screenshots, and
you’ll see that on you screenshot userpic just has white margins.

I don’t know if empathy automaticaly resizes your userpic when you choose it,
but contact I was chatting with, uses pidgin for windows.
Maybe pidgin saves the aspect ratio of userpics and empathy stretches them.

[Bug 940125] [NEW] Warn when upgrade will stop updates or remove purchased software

2012-02-24 Thread Michael Nelson
Public bug reported:

STR:
 1) Purchase some software in oneiric that isn't yet available for precise
 2) Update to precise

ER:
 * I should be warned appropriately about what will happen to the software that
I have purchased and installed
AR:
 * not sure, but I assume USC just disables the commercial PPAs along with
other PPAs duriing the upgrade, with a generic warning about 3rd party sources
being disabled.

** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 903121] Re: crystalspace 1.4.0+dfsg-4ubuntu2 fails to build with cegui-mk2 0.7.5-7

2012-02-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks Philip! This seems appropriate to me, and as we already have the
newer cegui library anyway, updating to a supported and recent release
sounds fine. Especially since the alternative would be to just drop
crystalspace from precise.

I guess you want to update it in Debian, and then we'll just sync it
over?
