[Bug 941905] [NEW] keystone user should not have a primary group of nogroup

2012-02-27 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
Public bug reported:

The keystone package creates a keystone user who's primary (and only)
group membership is 'nogroup'. This results in files/directories created
by the keystone user having 'nogroup' group ownership. This is
considered a bad thing.

The keystone user should have it's primary group set to 'keystone'.

I am currently using Precise and keystone-light, however the current
keystone package seems to be affected as well.

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu precise (development branch)

$ apt-cache madison keystone
  keystone | 2012.1+git201202210954-0ubuntu1 |
http://ppa.launchpad.net/openstack-ubuntu-testing/openstack-ksl-testing/ubuntu/
precise/main amd64 Packages
  keystone | 2012.1~e4~20120203.1574-0ubuntu3 |
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages

I have attached a patch for keystone-light which should fix the problem
(liberally cribbed from the nova packages).

--- Tests ---

$ id keystone
uid=112(keystone) gid=65534(nogroup) groups=65534(nogroup)

$ getent passwd keystone
keystone:x:112:65534::/var/lib/keystone:/bin/false

$ getent group keystone

[Bug 931893] [NEW] swift service scripts will not start unless /etc/swift/*-server/* exists

2012-02-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

For the default case where a storage node only contains one server for
each type (object, account, container), there does not have to be a
/etc/swift/type-server/ directory with any files in it.

In this case, the server is configured with a single file:

/etc/swift/type-server.conf

The upstart scripts provided in the trunk ppa for swift:

  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/swift-core/trunk/ubuntu oneiric main

will not start any of the server services unless files exist in these
folders

  ...
  if [ $(find /etc/swift/object-server/ -type f 2/dev/null | wc -l) -gt 0 ];
then
exec /usr/bin/swift-init object-server start
  ...

This means that the services cannot be started with the default
configuration

[Bug 731879] Re: libpam-ldap depends on ldap-auth-client

2012-02-27 Thread Bolesław Tokarski
Hello,

I have just verified that the libpam-ldap version in Precise
(184-8.5ubuntu2) has the same issue.

I have a custom package that configures ldap (actually it configures much more
than that) and I tried to add:
Provides: ldap-auth-config
to it, but because libpam-ldap Depends: ldap-auth-config (= 0.5.2) - it
ignores virtual packages, and pulls ldap-auth-config which in turn pulls
ldap-auth-client.

If you do not want to just remove the dependency, perhaps you could add
depend on a virtual package name by default and I could use that one
instead?

I just verified against Debian testing (Wheezy) and their libpam-ldap
184-8.5 does not have this dependency at all. Why is it in Ubuntu?

Best regards,
Boleslaw Tokarski

The first instance in the first LXC container start OK; however
subsequent instances in other LXC containers fail as ntp is installed:

root  1157   416  0 14:48 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/dpkg --status-fd 49
--configure resolvconf:all openjdk-6-jre-headless:amd

root  1437  1398  0 14:48 ?00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d

root  1453  1437  0 14:48 ?00:00:00 /bin/sh /etc/init.d/ntp start
root  1458  1453  0 14:48 ?00:00:00 lockfile-create

Running lockfile-create by hand after killing the hanging lockfile-

[Bug 941983] [NEW] freeradius refuses to run on Ubuntu 11.10

2012-02-27 Thread Mohit Aron
Public bug reported:

freeradius refuses to run after installing it. The reason is that
/etc/freeradius contains files that are owned by root, whereas the freeradius
server itself attempts to run as 'freerad' user. Therefore, it is not able to
read the files in /etc/freeradius, some of which do not give permissions to
group/others to read it.

[Bug 941968] Re: lockfile-create hangs inside lxc containers

2012-02-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug, James.

I tried to reproduce it by simply installing ntp in two containers, but
failed.

However, my hunch is that it is due to bug 925024.

The fix for that bug had been queued in the precise kernel source, but
is not yet (I think) in the archive.

Could you disable the apparmor profile using

sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.lxc-start

and see if you can still reproduce this?

I did not know this. you probably should lay down a symlink or some other
way handle backward compatibility.

However, the actually i don't have lxc-is-container code is busted
also.

It was expecting to find only a / in the cgroup file that it opened.

Francisco, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help
us make Ubuntu better.

Your modified configuration file was kept, so that should be fine. Its
not clear to me what broke in your postinstallation script, but if your
system is still affected, you can edit the file

/var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst

And add '-x' to the command line arguments for /bin/sh at the top. Then
run

sudo dpkg --configure libapache2-mod-php5

That should show the step at which the script fails. Paste that here and
we can debug further.

the user specified for --bindhome has uid/gid 1000.

sidnei hallyn, hola, looks like lxc-create -t ubuntu -- -b username doesn't
work anymore if username has uid/gid 1000, the ubuntu user created in the lxc
has the same uid/gid
hallyn sidnei: gosh, good point. could you open a bug on that?
sidnei hallyn, oki
hallyn stgraber: ^ i will make lxc not create the ubuntu user if -b is
specified, and add the bound user to sudo/admin group instead.
 stgraber: ^ lemme know if there's a reason that's a bad idea
hallyn sidnei: thanks
sidnei hallyn, np
stgraber hallyn: sounds good

2012-02-27 Thread Francisco Tavares
Thanks, Clint Byrum.

Anyway, I decided to reinstall 11.10, I was upset. I work in informatics
there is some time. But I worked until now with IBM mini as400 and
Cobol. Now, already retired, I want work with Linux and PHP but I'm a
beginner. I want to install a debugger, XDebug. I tried with Eclipse,
but it is a little complex. Now, I'm going to see if I can do it with
the debugger.

 Francisco, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help

 Your modified configuration file was kept, so that should be fine. Its
 not clear to me what broke in your postinstallation script, but if your
 system is still affected, you can edit the file

 /var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst

 And add '-x' to the command line arguments for /bin/sh at the top. Then
 run

 sudo dpkg --configure libapache2-mod-php5

 That should show the step at which the script fails. Paste that here and
 we can debug further.

[Bug 922650] Re: Lucid needs the fix for PHP Bug #33210

2012-02-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks Mark for your merge proposol and all your work so far to fix this bug.
While the patch itself looks good and you have updated the
debian/patches/series file so it will apply, the branch was against the version
of php5 that was in Lucid at release, and not our currently updated packages.
Can you update your merge proposal against this branch:
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/lucid/php5/lucid-updates

Then update debian/changelog accordingly (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure for details).
Clint also asked that you fill in the SRU justification in the Bug
description. I am going to unsubscribe ubuntu-sponsors at this time;
please resubscribe one the merge is ready and the SRU justification
completed.

Thanks again for your work on this! :)

[Bug 931236] Re: keystone install is unnecessarily interactive

2012-02-27 Thread Ghe Rivero
And easy way to avoid interactive installation can be with:

# echo keystonekeystone/auth-token string 999888777666 |
debconf-set-selections
# cat  /etc/dbconfig-common/keystone.conf  EOF
dbc_dbadmin='root'
dbc_dbname='keystone'
dbc_dbpass='essex'
dbc_dbtype='mysql'
dbc_dbuser='keystone'
dbc_install='true'
dbc_upgrade='true'
EOF
# DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install keystone

And to remove and purge the database:
# echo keystonekeystone/dbconfig-removeboolean true |
debconf-set-selections
# echo dbconfig-common dbconfig-common/purge   boolean true |
debconf-set-selections
# DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get remove keystone

Maybe, you will also need before everything:
# echo  dbconfig-common dbconfig-common/remember-admin-pass boolean true

[Bug 942325] [NEW] keep container from marking shared rootfs readonly on shutdown

2012-02-27 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

When a container shuts down, it tries to

   mount -o remount,ro /

If the container's '/' is a separate blockdev, that's fine.

If the container's '/' is on the host's rootfs, that's usually fine -
because something, somewhere, on the system will have a file open which
will make the readonly remount fail.

But if the container rootfs is a directory under
/var/lib/lxc/container/rootfs, and /var/lib/lxc is a separate
filesystem, and no other container is running, then that filesystem will
be marked readonly, causing future container starts or creations to
fail.

lxc-start needs to hold a file open for write for the duration of the
container's run. '${rootfs}.hold' should be good.

[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependency broken for lucid

2012-02-27 Thread Steve Langasek
I've taken on the task of trying to get this fixed for precise using
native and idiomatic upstart jobs for each of the services. It's not
directly backportable to lucid, as it depends on upstart's wait-for-
state generic helper instead of doing things directly in the nis-wait
job, adds a versioned dependency on rpcbind for upstart support in that
package, and references the 'failsafe-boot' event. The first of these
can be addressed for backporting by using Jeremy's implementation, and
the second can use an alternative dependency on the upstart-enabled
portmap package. The third can be replaced with 'network-device-up
INTERFACE!=lo', I guess.

Honestly if I'd had the sense to read through the bug log all the way to
the end before poking at this, I think I would've just gone with
Jeremy's implementation. But now having gone to the effort of splitting
the init script up into proper per-service upstart jobs, I think that's
the better way forward for precise rather than a halfway measure of a
nis-sysv job.

I've pushed these changes to lp:ubuntu/nis. Clint, what do you think?
If we're introducing upstart jobs in an SRU anyway, I'm not sure it
matters terribly if we're completely removing the init script vs.
wrapping it, so I think it would be better to go all the way and avoid
having to do two separate init script transitions.

[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependency broken for lucid

2012-02-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Note that this implementation only has 'start on starting autofs or
starting am-utils', because these are the only packages in Debian
unstable whose init scripts declare a 'Should-Start: ypbind' except for
cron, and cron has been fixed to now be able to pick up new NSS
information after startup.

Jeremy's implementation also references gdm, lightdm, and atd. I think
if these are going to be included, we should also coordinate with Debian
to get 'Should-Start' added to the init scripts.

[Bug 247283] Re: bind_wait uses ypwatch without a full path

2012-02-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Running an init script from a context in which /usr/bin is not on the
path is invalid. Therefore closing this report, as it would be
incorrect to embed a qualified path in the init script to address this.

2012-02-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nis - 3.17-32ubuntu2

---
nis (3.17-32ubuntu2) precise; urgency=low

  * Convert to native upstart jobs, with a versioned dependency on
upstart (= 0.9.7-2) because we use the wait-for-state job. LP: #569757.
  * Depend on rpcbind (= 0.2.0-6ubuntu1) instead of portmap to ensure our
upstart job dependencies are satisfied.

[Bug 941790] Re: Emacs window shrinks automatically

One more observation: Using emacs-gtk (instead of emacs-x) it seems that
enabling/disabling menu-bar-mode has no effect and the behavior is
reproducible by just turning off tool-bar-mode.

[Bug 937706] Re: Oneiric unpredictable crashes straight out to login screen

2012-02-27 Thread Mark S
Hi Fabio. Ubuntu crashed again (I was saving a PDF in Evince at the
time) and I lost some work yet again.

I ran the command as per your post #9.

Thank you for your help with this. I really don't want to go back to
Windows but I will be forced to soon as I cannot afford to keep losing
work almost every day like this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

[Bug 929207] Re: [FFE] Proxy tunnel for syncdaemon

2012-02-27 Thread Martin Pitt
This seems a very intrusive change at this point, so I have some
questions:

 * Does this change the code path/structure for situations where users
use no proxies? I. e. will the no proxy case also have a new process
and use the same code path? In other words, what's the regression
potential for the no proxy case?

 * Why do we need a separate process for this tunneling? It sounds
rather heavy (memory usage, wakeups, startup time, etc.) to have yet
another long-running Python process in the system for protocol
translation, these can usually happen in-process.

 * Where does it get the proxy configuration from? Do you use libproxy?
There are quite a few places where proxies are configured
(/etc/environment, GNOME control center, Firefox etc.).

2012-02-27 Thread Mantas Zimnickas
What material acceleration does mean?

After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, all graphics became very slow. When
switching windows with Alt+Tab I even can see how windows are redrawing.
I have same graphics card as in bug description:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility
M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]

Here is glxinfo | grep render output:

direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R100 (RV200 4C57) x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL DRI2

[Bug 941745] Re: kgoldrunner built without sound support

2012-02-27 Thread Philip Muškovac
The reason for this is that kgoldrunner depends on a sound library from
universe (libopenal) which makes it impossible to use it while kdegames is in
main and our backport packages use the same build configuration as the official
archive packages.
I'll leave this open as this is valid, but the only way to fix it is to demote
kdegames to universe which will probably happen for 12.10.

Based on our logs, this happened 9 time since we started to use new mirror
(i.e., 9 different ec2 instances had this issue during their initial setup)
(names of packages are different in each case of course).
