[Bug 946142] [NEW] Last message after installation lacks background

2012-03-03 Thread melrokz
Public bug reported:

Aesthetics bug? I'm not sure if this affects Ubiquity or is a general
bug?

The last message after installation using the 'Install Ubuntu' link, as all of
you know, is 'Please remove installation media and close the tray (if any)'.
This screen lacks a background/background color. A purple background was
present in previous versions.
As in the screenshot, some terminal output is also seen.

[Bug 873656] Re: usb-port don't works (don't see the 3g modem and usbdisk) Lenovo x100e

2012-03-03 Thread Jungle Boy
Having same USB issues on precise beta kernel which does not allow me to
install (USB read errors). Can easily reproduce the handshake "force
halt" error by dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/null bs=1M every time as well. I
am having AMD E350 based laptop. The last kernel to somewhat work for
me was 3.0.0.7 from natty beta, which allows reads and worked for small
amount of writes but corrupts the drive for large amount of writes.

[Bug 946132] [NEW] no (obvious) option to set hwclock to utc during 12.04 alternate install

2012-03-03 Thread Jane Atkinson
Public bug reported:

When installing 12.04 from an alternate CD, the time setting dialogue
checks that my timezone is correct, but it doesn't ask about whether the
hardware clock should be set to local time or UTC.

The problem has been there since, possibly, the previous release; I
initially upgraded to Precise from an Oneiric install, and after a lot
of head-scratching, discovered that hwclock set to local time was
causing problems such as unexpected errors on a shared partition, due (I
presume) to timestamps being wrong.

I run Lucid on the same machine, and also Windows Vista with a fix to
read the hwclock as UTC. After running Precise and then booting into
Vista, I was getting the time showing as 13 hrs ahead of actual time.
This corresponds to the 13 hrs that NZDT is ahead of UTC.

I did a fresh install of Precise from the Beta1 alternate CD and the
same thing has happened.

If people who want to use UTC are supposed to answer "no" to the
question about local timezone and then set UTC manually, it is not made
clear during the installation.

[Bug 946057] Re: Nautilus crashes When dismouting my mobile phone

2012-03-03 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 945878] Re: Nautilus restart fails

2012-03-03 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 946119] [NEW] icedtea-7-plugin doesn't run with only openjdk-7-jre installed

2012-03-03 Thread Jane Atkinson
Public bug reported:

I have the icedtea-7-plugin installed, plus openjdk-7-jre (plus
dependencies) installed.

If I go to a webpage with a java applet, the applet won't load and I get
this error message instead:

icedteanp plugin error: Failed to run
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/jre/bin/java. For more detail rerun
"firefox -g" in a terminal window.

I would have expected the plugin to work with the openjdk-7-jre
installation, since it doesn't list any of the java-6 files as
dependencies.

[Bug 946116] [NEW] lightdm fails to bring up X display automatically after boot

2012-03-03 Thread Peter Belew
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Xubuntu 12.04 alpha2 and have updated it equivalent
to beta1. The X display does not automatically bring up a login screen.
What I currently have to do is to get a login (using Alt-F2 or Alt-F1),
login as root, then run lightdm from the bash command line, which brings
up a login, and I can login with my user ID, after which X appears to
run normally with Xfce etc.

[Bug 943713] Re: generated crontab does not work in Japanese locale

2012-03-03 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Uploaded to Precise: thank you very much for your work!

Just remember to run update-maintainer when submitting a debdiff to
update the maintainer to Ubuntu devel (to be honest, I would forget too
it debuild wouldn't give me an error :-) ).

thanks again,
Fabrice

[Bug 943000] Re: update to system fails with Exception value: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'os_version'

2012-03-03 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi Carlos,

It seems that the fix has not been applied to Precise (only the first chunk of
the patch is there, from upstream). One of the rules for a SRU is to upload
first the fix in the current dev version.
could you please propose a fix for Precise or at least check if the bug happens
there too? I'll stay subscribed to the bug report so that I can upload it ASAP.

Also, could you add the information described at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure ?

Thanks in advance,
Fabrice

2012-03-03 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Uploaded to Precise. thank for your work!

@Dmitry: as we are in Feature Freeze, please refrain to make 'unnecessary'
changes, like updating the standards-version or the copyright version. this
makes just the diff bigger and some sponsors may reject it.
Also, do not mark the bug report as fix committed, as this status is used to
mark that the change has been uploaded to the archive and is waiting for
publishing. Just keep it as Confirmed and subscribe Sponsors.
Anyway, thanks for your work!

Fabrice

[Bug 946100] [NEW] package linux-image-3.2.0-17-generic 3.2.0-17.27 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2012-03-03 Thread Mike Kupfer
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 Beta 1, I got a pop-up saying

  Could not install 'linux-image-3.2.0-17-generic'

subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 2

I was unable to retrieve any additional information from the log window.

This was in a 32-bit VirtualBox VM, running on an amd64 host (also
running 11.10).

I looked in /boot/grub, and it looked like the new kernel was registered
with grub, so I chanced a restart. Booting the new kernel gave me a
blank screen. After waiting a bit, I shut down the VM and booted the
3.0.0-16 kernel from Oneiric, which is what's being used to submit this
bug report.

[Bug 935064] Re: cutter-testing-framework version 1.1.7-1 FTBFS on i386 in precise

This bug was fixed in the package cutter-testing-framework - 1.1.7-1.1

---
cutter-testing-framework (1.1.7-1.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix "FTBFS: dpkg-buildpackage: error: dpkg-source -b cutter-testing-
framework-1.1.7 gave error exit status 2": remove automatically created
patch and remove the created files in debian/rules' clean target.
(Closes: #643084)

  [ Stefano Rivera ]
  * Gstreamer plugins now install into a multi-arched location:
- Update debian/gstreamer0.10-plugins-cutter.install to match.
- B-D on gstreamer0.10 >= 0.10.35.2, which introduced this change.
- Breaks libgstreamer0.10-0 << 0.10.35.2.

[Bug 541595] Re: [Master] package failed to install/upgrade: package is already installed and configured

2012-03-03 Thread Mike Kupfer
Just ran into this upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 Beta 1. I got a pop-up
complaining that the installation of update-manager-core had failed
because of a problem with exc_tests.py (I'll file a separate bug for
that), then later I got a separate pop-up with the "already installed
and configured" message. This was in a 32-bit VirtualBox VM.

[Bug 946093] [NEW] DNSSEC passthrough support in dnsmasq

2012-03-03 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

I just noticed that Network Manager isn't using --proxy-dnssec for the local
resolver.
Using this option is important for environments where the client (firefox or
similar) is actively checking for the DNSSEC flags.

>From dnsmasq's man page:
   --proxy-dnssec
A resolver on a client machine can do DNSSEC validation in two
ways: it
can perform the cryptograhic operations on the reply it receives,
or it
can rely on the upstream recursive nameserver to do the
validation and
set a bit in the reply if it succeeds. Dnsmasq is not a DNSSEC
valida‐
tor, so it cannot perform the validation role of the recursive
name‐
server, but it can pass through the validation results from
its own
upstream nameservers. This option enables this behaviour. You
should
only do this if you trust all the configured upstream
nameservers and
the network between you and them. If you use the first DNSSEC
mode,
validating resolvers in clients, this option is not required.
Dnsmasq
always returns all the data needed for a client to do
validation
  itself.

As our dnsmasq should be as transparent as possible to the user, I believe
doing dnssec passthrough is the right thing and will be important for some of
our users.
