[Bug 1191520] [NEW] A get a mail with subject Panic or segfault in Samba and the request to send informations here.

2013-06-16 Thread Tobias Lehnert
Public bug reported:

Informations from mail:

The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 5781 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba
binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to
Ubuntu by visiting this link:

[Bug 1191596] [NEW] Host user can kill process of different LXC user, if same userid

2013-06-16 Thread Julian Haagsma
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm setting up a webserver, and decided after some reading and
significant setup to contain various sites in their own LXC containers.

The websites have different sets of developers, and several have daemons
for which I created users.

Consequently, there is not a 1:1 match between users on the host and inside
each LXC.

I noticed when running ps auxf on the host machine, that various processes were
ascribed to the wrong users -- and surmised that it was just a result of what
the host thought which names belonged to those userid's; but I hoped it
wouldn't let me kill them as that user.

So I su'd to normal user dave userid 1003 and was able to kill each of
the websites daemons, which each had a name like eebot and were userid
1003.

Surely this is undesirable behaviour!

I have since added duplicate daemon userid's and moved them into the 996
range so normal users won't likely accidentally overlap, but I think
there should be a way to prevent regular host users from killing
processes inside LXC that coincidentally happen to have the same userid.

I also noticed, for example, when running ps auxf, that the mysql user in the
LXC's have the same userid as colord on the host, for the same reasons.
While this is probably not a huge deal, there could easily be a situation where
this was undesirable.

As an addendum, the reason I have the users added on the host is so they can
SSH to it, and then into their respective LXC environments.

PS. I'm half-tempted to call this a security vulnerability, but I'm not sure
what exactly that applies to; as a system administrator I might consider it a
security vulnerability, as user A can kill user B's stuff, if the userid's
match that way.

[Bug 775530] Re: Blacklisted PCI ID 8086:0116 detected on acer aspire 4750 intel hd graphic 3000

2013-06-16 Thread madbiologist
Ubuntu 11.04 support for Intel Sandy Bridge graphics was incomplete.
Better support was available in Ubuntu 11.10, but the graphics
performance (including the Unity 3D desktop) is much better in Ubuntu
12.04, and better again in Ubuntu 12.10.

Official support for Ubuntu 11.04 ended on October 28, 2012. If you are
still having problems in Ubuntu 12.04 or a later Ubuntu release please
file a new bug report so that we can get a new set of logs and system
information.

Okay, that's kinda odd, ldd seems to resolve libpng12.so.0 to the system one
present at /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng12.so.0, but mono seems to load the other

Well I have in principle the Ubuntu package for libpng12 installed at
the right place. I didn't modify it.

This really doesn't matter -- adding a library with the same name into one of
the system libdirs will alter the library resolution when attempting to load the
said library.

Could you run sudo ldconfig -v and give me the output please?

[Bug 1191195] Re: Cannot launch banshee: Unhandled Exception: System.DllNotFoundException: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0

2013-06-16 Thread Adam Conrad
This is not a bug in Ubuntu. If you put a library on the system library
directories, you need to expect that it will be used in linker
resolution. There's no way to magically have half your applications
look at one, and the other half another, since linking is done by raw
SONAME, not full path.

If you need to install a different version of system libraries that lack
symbols, you should probably have them off the ldconfig path entirely,
in the same directory as your application, or use LD_* hacks to hint to
your application where to find them, or compile with rpaths directly to
your library.

[Bug 1191471] [NEW] missing persistent module on qpid 0.14

2013-06-16 Thread Afshin Afzali
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I need to use persistent capability of qpid on ubuntu 12.04 which
currently has qpid 0.14. It's pretty old and does not contain persistent
module and companion qpidd-msgstore package. Already I've asked this
issue by a question and recommended that log it as a bug. I'll
appreciate if I know that qpid would upgrade to later version soon?

[Bug 1189088] Re: Unity Dash, left mouse button starts preview instead of directly the application

2013-06-16 Thread Xavier Guillot
According to a Unity developer on Ubuntu French forum, this is not a bug, but a
design team decision:
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=13824941#p13824941

IMHO it is a bad one. Canonical wants to unify Touch and desktop apps /
appearance, it's fine, but please do not forget that on a computer we
have the mouse (with several buttons) and let us use it with all
functionalities !

Moreover, even since 13.04 where Dash is much faster, on some computers
the app description is very long to open, so we are loosing time at each
program startup.

Single click to launch from Unity dock, double from Dash which is a big
change comparing to previous versions, this is not a complete uniform
user experience...

By the way guys, if you want to fix this error temporarily until the bug
has been fixed you need to do the following

sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/wine1.6-amd64_1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~ppa1_amd64.deb
Then type

sudo apt-get autoremove

then
sudo apt-get update

hope this helps

[Bug 1191476] [NEW] No simple way to copy text from or view history of notifications

2013-06-16 Thread staticd
Public bug reported:

1)The text in the notification bubbles cannot be selected. This prevents users
from copying the text of notifications.
2)Also, notification history cannot be viewed

The supposed vision of notifyOSD prevents (1) from ever being
resolved.

both (1) and (2) are fixed by a a ppa ppa:jconti/recent-notifications
This is an essential, CORE feature of notifications that must be available in
a default install. What use are notifications for the non technical user if
they are lost for good once they vanish? The loss of selectability is a
regression from the old gnome notifications.

Proposed fix:
make indicator-notifications from ppa:jconti/recent-notifications available by
default in all ubuntu installations.

[Bug 1138051] Re: Не возможно разблокировать экран, но сменить пользователя можно

2013-06-16 Thread Дмитрий
The time has passed after your request for translation into English, I
always thought that you have corrected using machine translation.

1. change the shortcut keys to switch between Cyrillic and латинницей
switches in the form of input screen lock password, you want to switch
user, also stops working indicator on the keyboard, and that helped to
track down the problem, in the window to change the user input is
passed, which is not normal.

2. Let you switch the keyboard to English with the display next to the
password window to unlock the screen, may I never noticed it before

How to remove this error report from the list, or make it active
The problem is solved

[Bug 1191474] Re: Security ROOT. Logs without requiring a password!!!

2013-06-16 Thread Daniel Karlsson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I see in your modified sudoers file that you have added
the line:

ALL ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL

This line configures sudo so that no one will have to type any password
at all. Since this is the intended function of sudo I will close this
bug as Invalid. I would also suggest removing the two offending lines in
sudo. You can find more info on sudos behaviour at:

[Bug 1006101] Re: Index update seems to disable muon search until restarting muon

2013-06-16 Thread Sergio Callegari
Here is the explanation.

Muon is very silly about file permissions. In its work it must read a
lot of files and query the apt-xapian database. However, if it cannot
read some file due to too strict permissions, it does not say so in any
way. It just pretends that everything is fine and that the files were
readable but empty. Similarly, if querying the xapian database, it
cannot read any data because the database looks empty, it does not say
so in any way, but it merely pretends that no package is on the system
(as far as the possibility to search packages is concerned).

To make muon work

1) make sure that /var/lib/apt-xapian-index/ and everything under it is
readable by all users
2) make sure that /var/cache/apt-xapian-index/ and everything under it is
readable by all users
3) make sure that /var/lib/update-notifier/updates-available is readable by all
users (see
http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?57469-Muon-Update-Notifications-in-12-04)

And that apt-xapian-index does not change these permissions.

Muon developers seem not to like the idea to provide diagnostic info
about this, indicating it as a distribution bug

[Bug 1191486] [NEW] scaling_governor s not available for intel CPUs in 3.9 and 3.10 kernels

2013-06-16 Thread Anton Anikin
Public bug reported:

The 3.9 kernel has a new driver to manage Intel processors, it doesn't
use acpi_cpufreq anymore, but use intel_pstate:

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_driver
intel_pstate

But only powersave and performance scaling_governors are available now:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors
performance powersave

ondemand and other governors are not available

[Bug 1159513] Re: Banshee freezes on copying to iPod music which needs transcoding

2013-06-16 Thread Chow Loong Jin
** Description changed:

After updating to raring, Banshee freezes each time I try to import to
an iPod any music file which needs transcoding (i.e., FLAC and OGG).
Importing music which doesn't need transcoding works, so the problem
seems to be with the transcoding process itself and not with the iPod
  interaction.

I am able to transcode the files manually with SoundConverter, though I
usually need to start the process two or three times and I still get
spurious error messages (typically, the message says the output file
cannot be saved, although the output file IS correctly saved and it
  plays back just fine).

This too is new since the upgrade. I do not know if the two problems are
related and if they indicate a deeper problem in the GStreamer stack.
Please let me know if there is any further testing that I can perform to
help assess the problem. Please also let me know if you wish me to
report separate bugs against SoundCoverter and/or GStreamer.

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04
- Package: banshee 2.6.0-6ubuntu1
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-14.24-generic 3.8.4
- Uname: Linux 3.8.0-14-generic x86_64
- ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu2
- Architecture: amd64
- Date: Sun Mar 24 16:02:45 2013
- InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-04-27 (330 days ago)
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Beta amd64 (20120328)
- MarkForUpload: True
- SourcePackage: banshee
- UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2013-02-09 (43 days ago)
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1. Launch Banshee
+ 2. Attach an iPod
+ 3. Attempt to transfer files which are not natively supported on iPods (e.g.
flac, ogg)
+ 4. Observe to see if the transcoding and transfer finishes successfully.
+
+ If the bug is present, Banshee freezes halfway and does not complete the
+ transfer.
+
+ REGRESSION POTENTIAL:
+ Not much. The patch appears to be fairly localized between the BPM detection
and transcoding bits, and should fix Banshee freezing while performing BPM
detection as well.
+
+ Aside from the aforementioned two features, nothing else should be
+ affected.

[Bug 882457] Re: Banshee freezes when clicking on Show Banshee in sound menu

2013-06-16 Thread Chow Loong Jin
** Description changed:

- After disabling the integration of Banshee into the sound menu in the
- extensions tab, ticking the same option in the preferences window makes
- Banshee freeze. See the attached video and log file.
+ After enabling or disabling an extension without closing the preferences
+ dialog, the options available are not automatically updated, which may
+ cause freezes if an option that should no longer be available is
+ toggled.

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
- Package: banshee 2.2.0-1ubuntu2

+ 2. Switch to the Source Specific tab
+ 3. Notice that there is no Automatically detect BPM for all songs option.
+ 4. Close preferences dialog.
+ 5. Reopen preferences dialog.

[Bug 1191276] Re: Installation of wine1.6 fails because of duplicate wine64-preloader

2013-06-16 Thread H. Cristiano Alves Machado
I also had this bug.

Hacking away (almost) as outlined by Josh Robinson (jmr59) got it
installed.

Just a small tip:

~$ rm deb/usr/bin/wine64
~$ rm deb/usr/bin/wine64-preloader
~$ dpkg -b deb wine1.6-new.deb

should be preceded by something like:

~$ mv -i wine-deb/ deb/

And thank you very much to him, Mark Howell for paving the way for
this temporary solution.

Sound really stupid at me that Ubuntu cannot understand if it is placed on a
desktopè or on touch device and set the Unity behavior in consequence.

[Bug 1004230] Re: package hsqldb-server 1.8.0.10-9ubuntu2 failed to uninstall: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2013-06-16 Thread shishkander
I had the same problem and it seems the `service hsqldb-server stop` fails only
if the mode is WebServer.
My solution:
change /etc/hsqldb.conf mode from WebServer to Server
kill both processes Server and Websever using `kill -9 pid`
service hsqldb-server restart
apt-get purge hsqldb-server #now it works!

In case it's useful, here's a variation of the error. In this
screenshot, the date at the top is wrong, and the highlighted day below
is correct, the reverse of the previously posted screenshot.

[Bug 1058346] Re: Touchpad not working on Acer Aspire One 725

2013-06-16 Thread Paul Campion
IMPROVEMENT to workaround!

From bug description above: WORKAROUND: Pushing Fn+F7 (which is the
turn on combination for the touchpad) before loging in makes the tp work
perfectly.

BUT this only works if you use a password for login or if you hit Fn+F7
at the right moment during boot-up; if you don't do this and just let it
all load then it is too late and using Fn+F7 makes no difference - the
on-screen icon shows the touchpad toggling between on and off but the
touchpad itself still does not work (i.e. the software works but the
hardware doesn't)! I think this is because the tp is factory set to
'off' and unless the tp is started (or is woken) before login Fn+F7 is
not recognised by the hardware.

BUT - let it all load then use Ctrl+Fn+F7 and you are good to go!
Everything works just fine - after the touchpad has been started, just
using Fn+F7 is enough to toggle the touchpad. Next time you boot up
the tp is off again - so this is certainly not a 'fix' but it is way
less annoying than missing your chance to hit Fn+F7 before login!

Is it possible to change the factory setting of the tp so we can all
just switch it 'on' and solve this bug?

Re: [Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop

2013-06-16 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
The aforementioned modified UEFI anti-bricking code has been released in
Linux 3.10-rc6, see:
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=f8b8404337de4e2466e2e1139ea68b1f8295974fI
hope it really works. :)

Hopefully, this kernel will be included in Saucy images/daily images... If
it's not, does anyone know how to make a Raring/Saucy install image with
3.10-rc6 kernel debs taken from the mainline kernel PPA?

2013/6/13 Val 1040...@bugs.launchpad.net

@Gilbert: see paragraph no 14 in post #114 for a fix to this problem.
It's a known bug in update-grub - Windows EFI boot entries are not
 generated correctly.

[Bug 602347] Re: Renaming of the locally displayed names of the network resources should be allowed

2013-06-16 Thread Paul Somebody
Can you please confirm that this is possible to do via the Rename
command from the Nautilus' context menu or F2? It certainly was not
possible when I have reported the bug, which was the point.

[Bug 1178843] Re: kdevelop won't start

Fontconfig warning: /etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf, line 14: reading
configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
KGlobal::locale(): Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid
main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to
call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should
not do that since it most likely will not work

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
