[Bug 1217723] [NEW] Cups fails printing a specific page of a PDF

2013-08-27 Thread Rodolfo
Public bug reported:

Hello. I am trying to print a PDF and it always fails in the page 11.
And the rest is not printed. I have tried with different drivers that
show the same issue. I am using a Lexmark printer but with drivers of
other printers (because of compatibility, I have proven that the
original drivers are not so good as using drivers of HP or Ricoh)

Using a HP driver( Laserjet 9050 MFP pcl3),if I print only the page 11 I get
this message: /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups. I already updated the hplib to the
lastest version 3.13. and it is still failing.
-Using the Gutenprint driver for the Ricoh 3045 it doesnt show a clear error in
the cups console, but seeing the log I can clearly see one error:

   'D [28/Aug/2013:02:46:30 -0400] [Job 201] Error reading a

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10.

After doing this, someone sent me an instant message and it was spoken
to me through my speakers. This is the first time that's happened since
Ubuntu 12.10. It caught me by surprise. I hope this stays fixed for the
13.10 release!

Closing as 'Fix Released'' since the report refers to an obsolete
version of catfish and Ubuntu. Ubuntu 11.10/Oneiric (which ZevenOS 4.0
is based on) is no longer supported.

This bug was fixed in Ubuntu 12.04/Precise (catfish 0.3.2-2ubuntu1):
* Prevent program crashing when an icon is missing from the icon theme

[Bug 1217704] [NEW] Unable to log in when default DE that was already removed still being set as default DE for a user

2013-08-27 Thread amir
Public bug reported:

If users install additional Desktop Environments then uninstall all the
additional DE's, all user accounts that used any of the removed DEs
during their last login session will be then unable to log into despite
being recreated because there's no way to select alternative DE at login
screen when you have a single DE installed so those accounts will be
stuck with the DE that was already removed

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install any additional Desktop Environment eg lxde
2. Create a new user
3. Log into lxde using that user account
4. Log out and go back to your main account
5. Remove the new user account
6. Remove all additional DE completely and now you're left with your one
primary DE
7. Recreate the new user that you just removed
8. Try log into it and watch lightDM kicks you back to login screen

Solutions:
1. Make lightdm fallback to primary DE when user's default DE no longer exist
on system
2. Automatically remove config that stores user's default DE in
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/ when removing user account

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04
Package: lightdm 1.6.0-0ubuntu3
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-29.42-generic 3.8.13.5
Uname: Linux 3.8.0-29-generic i686

been running this version and it has been very stable for me. Also, it
is the first version to include stable GTK3 support.

[Bug 1161776] Re: Failed to download repository information

2013-08-27 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I have seen this message for a few days.
I see two problems here:

1. The user clicks "try again" because they think it might fix the
problem and actually find updates. Because of the message "Check your
Internet connection", the user thinks it is a problem on their end. They
probably think that clicking "ok" will just close the software updater
and do nothing.

2. There should be an option like "see details" in order to be able to
localise the problematic repository or ppa. Without that option, the
"Settings..." button is useless, as it does not direct to a solution to
fix the problem.

[Bug 1217687] [NEW] [mir] [multimonitor] mouse choppy, typing text in terminal slow

2013-08-27 Thread Kevin Hunter
Public bug reported:

Starting from a single laptop monitor, I plugged in external VGA
monitor. The monitor was autodetected and turned on (nice!). I moved
the external monitor to the left of the laptop monitor in Settings ->
Display, and the, after about 3 minutes of moving windows around between
monitors, the mouse becomes extremely choppy and typing text into gnome-
terminal has a 3+ second lag between typed character and showing at the
prompt.

Setup and exact steps to recreate:

 0. 1280x800 resolution laptop display with Intel-only graphics (Core i5
M520 @2.4), w/ Wacom capabilities.

 1. Using Saucy 64bit iso daily from 27-Aug-2013 08:14, netbooted via a
PXE and NFSROOT, with toram boot option.

 2. Installed Mir per instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mir/MultiMonitorTesting . Recreated here in
case the linked text changes:

   $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mir-team/system-compositor-testing
   $ sudo apt-get update
   $ cat > /etc/apt/preferences.d/50-pin-mir.pref
   Package: *
   Pin: origin "private-ppa.launchpad.net"
   Pin-Priority: 1001

   Package: *
   Pin: release o=LP-PPA-mir-team-system-compositor-testing
   Pin-Priority: 1002
   ^D

   $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y
 # note that because this is RAM only PXE boot instance, I did *not* reboot.
   $ uname -a
   Linux ubuntu 3.11.0-4-generic #9-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 26 15:21:06 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

 # was necessary to execute
   $ sudo apt-get install unity-system-compositor

   $ sudo lightdm restart
 # this never restarted

 # Go to TTY (C-A-F1)
$ sudo service lightdm stop# wait
$ ps waux | grep lightdm # ensure it's not there
$ sudo service lightdm start # this works, and I'm presented with Mir.
   $ ps waux | grep unity   # shows unity-system-compositor

 3. At the Unity shell, open Settings->Display # see only 13" Display.
Also open up terminal (C-A-t)

 4. Plug in VGA cord to external monitor
# external monitor instantly engages, with correct 1280x1024 resolution.
(Way to go!)

 5. Move external monitor to left side of laptop display in the
Settings->Display window.  Click Apply.

  6. Basically diddle around, then note the mouse movement become choppy
and the aforementioned delay in text displaying in the terminal.

Public bug reported:

With LibreOffice in Saucy I often click on a menu and see the menu

[Bug 1208532] Re: put_page failures with 3.8.0-27.40

2013-08-27 Thread Gregory Stewart
509834a uptime 5 days, 8:12

I have symptoms of the failure: the same Windows instance under KVM has
disconnected from the network. I tried logging onto Windows using the
VMM console window and the wait cursor is spinning. The dmesg log file
doesn't contain any traces of the put_page issue or any other issue.
Just the usual gufw (firewall) log messages, which I am now turning off.
It's like a silent failure.

What state can I capture?

2013-08-27 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Jackson, thanks so much for getting this moving again. Do you have a
standalone .deb that I could use to install this early. Or, could you
elaborate on the steps to use your ppa?

Also, do you think that this could make it into Ubuntu 13.10?

[Bug 1217678] [NEW] cannot launch app from messaging menu anymore

2013-08-27 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

touch image 082713
indicator-messages 13.10.1+13.10.20130822.5-0ubuntu1

You can no longer select the app icon on the right of the menu item in
ubuntu-touch to launch the app. Previously you could select the app icon
and launch the source application

Steps to reproduce:
1) send a text message to the phone or call it and don't answer
2) pull down the messaging menu and click on the icon on the right of the text
message/missed call entry

Expected results:
- should launch the source application (phone-app in this case)

Actual results:
- no application is launched

[Bug 1217676] [NEW] performing action on menu incorrectly clears and reloads menu

2013-08-27 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

touch image 082713
indicator-messages 13.10.1+13.10.20130822.5-0ubuntu1

On touch, if you delete a message from the menu or reply to a text
message, the entire menu is cleared out (all items removed) and then re-
added. This is not the desired behavior and is a regression. Items
should be removed but other items in the list should not be removed and
rea-dded.

Steps to reproduce:
1) make multiple incoming calls or text messages to the phone (or populate it
programatically)
2) swipe to delete a message or reply to a text message

Expected Results:
- the acted upon item should be removed from the list and all other items
should not change

Actual Results:
- the acted upon items is removed but so are all the other items, then they are
reloaded. this looks bad.

[Bug 1075407] Re: BCM4322 Wireless Stopped Working after 3.5.0-18.29-generic Kernel Update

2013-08-27 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
I actually got the wi-fi working on the Ubuntu 13.10 live CD. Here's
how:

Ubuntu Software Center > Edit Menu > Software Sources > Ubuntu Software
> Check all boxes then hit the "close" button.

After this I closed Ubuntu Software Center.

Then, I opened a terminal and entered:
sudo apt-get update

Last, I open Ubuntu Software Center again and typed "broadcom" (no
quotes) into the search box. This found the following two packages:

bcmwl-kernel-source
b43-fwcutter

After installing these packages I was able to use wi-fi on the Ubuntu
13.10 Live CD. I didn't even need to do a modprobe command.

I have two videocards in my system:

2) discrete radeon 7870 without display, only for OpenCL computations.
On my main system (raring 13.04, kernel 3.8) I use fglrx without any problem,
both of videocards works fine. On the second system, 13.10, I use radeon driver
for the mir works - and errors appears. Also, without trying any opencl
