[Bug 1223288] Re: dom0 hangs after creating a new domU

2013-09-10 Thread nfhoge
The reason of this issue was memory balooning of dom0.
I could create domU in full physical memory size with "autoballoon=0" setting
in /etc/xen/xl.conf.

Currently, the only reliable way to change Ubuntu to boot under UEFI instead
of BIOS is to change the firmware setting from BIOS to UEFI and reinstall
Ubuntu. The reinstall is needed because UEFI requires different partitions,
that may not have been created at all on your system if it was installed in
BIOS mode.

[Bug 1221857] Re: 8086:008a Wifi slowly degrades until no data transfer

2013-09-10 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Hi,

Christopher that is actually just a bios update adding Windows 8 support
likely flashing to some sort of UEFI. Are you suggesting this might have
some benefit because I do not see anything other than Windows 8 support
being added.

My version was a Win 7 so mine is actually latest at A00.

[Bug 1216472] Re: [xmir] [multimonitor] Frames eventually get slightly out of order, look like glitches or typing will feel slow

2013-09-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

- Using ppa:mir-team/qa-testing and ppa:mir-team/qa-testing2, eventually
- the frames you see get slightly out of order and slightly lagged.
-
- I've only ever seen this bug in ppa:mir-team/qa-testing and ppa:mir-team
- /qa-testing2 so there's a reasonable chance it's come from one of the
- branches being tested there, which are not on trunk yet.
-
- The issue seems more pronounced with bypass (qa-testing) but eventually
- appears using qa-testing2 as well (no bypass).
-
- It doesn't seem to happen when using a single monitor. Only with
- multiple monitors. But possibly haven't tested enough to be sure.
+ Using multiple monitors, eventually the frames you see get slightly out
+ of order and slightly lagged. Particularly when only one monitor is
+ updating.

  TEST CASE:
- Open a terminal in XMir and hold down a key.
+ Open a terminal in XMir, move it onto a single monitor, and hold down a key.
Expected: Key appears to repeat smoothly.
Observed: Key sometimes appears to skip one character/frame ahead, and then
back again.

  WORKAROUND (1)
  1. sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
  2. ccsm &
  3. CCSM > OpenGL > (untick everything except maybe "Sync To VBlank")

  WORKAROUND (2)
Use simpler single buffering desktop environment, like Xfce.

  WORKAROUND (3)
Unplug all external monitors. Use a single monitor :(

[Bug 1173759] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 can detect wi-fi but can't connect

2013-09-10 Thread Doug James
My situation is similar, with an HP 2000 Notebook. However, Ive been
able to connect to the router just fine, but have very intermittent
speeds, ranging to 0k to maybe 5k, when I have a 1MB line. I piggyback
via ethernet from my System76, and get a perfect signal on that notebook
and perfect speed on the HP. I don't wanna delve into adding patches
that are gonna be borked every kernel update, as this notebook doesent
belong to me, not to mention I don't have all that much time to further
break this thing. I'll try the prop. drivers and see if any improvement.
It seems to me that there are various fixes and hexes for this issue,
but not a universal fix.

[Bug 1223670] [NEW] Virtualbox netfilter modules don't work on Kernel 3.11

2013-09-10 Thread shankao

that I've only tested Combat's fix and it does the trick.

Re: [Bug 1223464] [NEW] orca keyboard command shortcuts

2013-09-10 Thread cheryl holmes
Thanks for your kind, fast response!
..the preveious distro was 10.04..and the pointer movement was controlled
by using the tab button and the up-down-right-left-arrows. I believe there
was a box on orca preferences that you check to enable keyboard commands or
keyboard shortcuts..this way, when you moved the mouse pointer using a
keyboard command, orcha would speak or identify whatever the pointer would
land on...for instance, on the desktop you hit tab and keep hitting tab and
it would keep moving to the next icon on the desktop and would speak the
item it was on. It doesn't do that in distro 12.04.02, which is the
current distro we are using. If you're blind, you have no way of knowing
where the mouse pointer is on the screen.. Also, on the 12.04..if you roll
the mouse pointer over the icons on the desktop it doesn't speak them
either. I'm totally blind and I need it to tell me what the icons I'm on
are..
I've been using orca now for a couple of years and have made cd's of all
the keyboard shortcut commands to learn them (talking book type of lessons).

Hope this info will help with a solution..

thanks..

[Bug 1223390] Re: package fp-units-fcl-2.6.2 2.6.2-5 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/fpc/2.6.2/units/x86_64-linux/fcl-async/libasync.o', which is also in package fpc 2.6.2

2013-09-10 Thread Paul Gevers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, Ubuntu never provide a package fpc with real
content, so if your old fpc package contains files, it looks to me that
you didn't get the original package from Ubuntu. I know one PPA that
provides a all-in one package of fpc. Because of this the Ubuntu project
can not support or fix your particular bug. You probably should
uninstall fpc first and then continue.

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu, check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories

Please let me know if I was wrong, so we can try to figure it out, but
for now I set this bug to invalid.

[Bug 1223666] [NEW] update notifier is no longer using a delayed autostart

2013-09-10 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Prior to upstart user sessions update-notifier was set to autostart with
a 60sec delay.

X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=60

This value is however no longer honoured and instead update-notifier
starts immediately. In the case of pending crash reports the UI pops up
in the top left of screen well before the window manager has loaded.
Which really does seem visually strange.

[Bug 1172908] Re: [Vaio T Series SVT15112CXS] USB 2.0 Ports Don't Work

2013-09-10 Thread Mauricio Edgardo Arévalo Ruiz
I'm having the same problem in my desktop, I'm using a GIGABYTE GA-
970A-D3 motherboard, usb 3.0 working but not usb 2.0, I only have 2 3.0
usb ports, only enough to use my keyboard and mouse. I'm being forced to
use windows because under windows all ports work fine, but it seems
Ubuntu team does not even have idea of what is going on with this bug,
since you can see the lack of interest from the team to fix it. Maybe
someone here has tried another Linux based operating system that works,
I would like to try it

[Bug 1223654] Crash report cannot be processed

2013-09-10 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libexpat1: package version 2.1.0-4
dbgsym version 2.1.0-2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 1222823] [NEW] Libreoffice 'exceptions.ImportError object has no attribute 'with_traceback'"

2013-09-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This happens here in an Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit. It may happen to other
versions but I haven't tried yet.

When using Libreoffice 1:4.1.1-0ubuntu1~precise1 (Help - About LibreOffice
shows Version: 4.1.1.2, Build ID: 410m0(Build:2) installed using the PPA
libreoffice-4.1: when adding the attached extension it shows an error message
such as:
-
: 'exceptions.ImportError' object has no
attribute 'with_traceback', traceback follows
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/uno.py:334 in function _uno_import() ["%s
(or '%s.%s' is unknown)" % (py_import_exc, name, x)]
  /usr/lib/python2.7/copy.py:60 in function () [from org.python.core
import PyStringMap]
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/uno.py:268 in function _uno_import() [return
_g_delegatee( name, *optargs, **kwargs )]
/usr/lib/python2.7/decimal.py:139 in function () [import copy as
_copy]
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/uno.py:268 in function _uno_import() [return
_g_delegatee( name, *optargs, **kwargs )]
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/simplejson/__init__.py:109 in function
() [from decimal import Decimal]
  /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/uno.py:268 in function _uno_import() [return
_g_delegatee( name, *optargs, **kwargs )]

/home/carles/.config/libreoffice/4/user/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages/lumd3lp.tmp_/Mendeley-1.10-dev3.oxt/Scripts/MendeleyDesktopAPI.py:17
in function () [try: import simplejson as json]
  /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/pythonloader.py:103 in function
getModuleFromUrl() [exec(codeobject, mod.__dict__)]
  /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/pythonloader.py:149 in function
writeRegistryInfo() [mod = self.getModuleFromUrl( locationUrl )]
-

Using Libreoffice 4.1 from libreoffice.org: works correctly.

Editing the extension with this change:
-except ImportError: import json
+except: import json

(it appears twice)

Then it works correctly - not sure why.

Let me know if you need some more information.

Thank you,

I'm using several different phones with different plans to connect to
the internet, so this problem is particularly prominent to me.

Once a new modem has been set up, it shows like this:

modem name
status (connected/disconnected)
___
network name

If the modem is not connected to the computer it still shows the four
lines only with name and status greyed out. In my opinion non-connected
devices should not be shown entirely, their respective network hidden.
There is no possible interaction at all and doesn't give network
information.

[Bug 1162360] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude E6420] suspend/resume failure

2013-09-10 Thread Jack C. Holt
I have also updated to A19 and my E6420 still will not properly resume
from sleep. My output from "sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo
dmidecode -s bios-release-date" is A19 06/24/2013.

Steve Moon has already described exactly what I see.

[Bug 1180757] [NEW] (network menu) there are too many separation lines

2013-09-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This menu need to be reorganised a bit. There are a lot of separation
lines, to the point the user has trouble understanding what they are
separating.

I'd love to put a screenshot of it but I can't
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1153157) so I'll use my best ascii art
instead. Here is how it shows on my computer:

phone1 ~greyed~
disconnected ~greyed~
__
some network
__
phone2 ~greyed~
disconnected ~greyed~
__
another network
__
wireless network ~greyed~
current network
disconnect
__
some wifi
another wifi
a third wifi
too many wifi
I can see five
__
connect to an invisible wifi
create new wifi network
__
VPN connections ~with submenu~
__
(✓) activate network
(✓) activate wireless network
__
connexion informations
manage connexions

The separation line should only separate different objects: modem1,
modem2, wireless, VPN, options. There shouldn't be a line between active
and inactive connections: an icon change and the following line
"disconnect" indented should be enough. Furthermore you either have a
submenu or you don't, VPN shouldn't be singled out. Like this:

phone1 ~greyed~
disconnected ~greyed~
(x) some network
__
phone2 ~greyed~
disconnected ~greyed~
(x) another network
__
wireless network ~greyed~
(✓) current network
disconnect
(x) some wifi
(x) another wifi
(x) a third wifi
(x) too many wifi
(x) I can see five
connect to an invisible wifi
create new wifi network
__
VPN connections ~with submenu~
__
options ~greyed~
(✓) activate network
(✓) activate wireless network
connexion informations
manage connexions

This would be easier to read and understand. For further cleaning,
inactive modems could be hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1180747
.
