[Bug 1233989] Re: Laptop turns off / crashes when lid is closed
Hi Christopher Thank you for your input. I am trying to see if the Asus technical service comes up with a good way to update the BIOS under Ubuntu (I bought this computer with Ubuntu preinstalled, they should be able to help me) because the Ubuntu help is scaring me a bit... I'll let you know when I hear from them. By the way, I updated to Ubuntu 13.10 and the problem is still here. I just checked the kernel version, it says 3.12.0-031200rc3-generic, which means that I am still using the upstream kernel that I installed before. Should I go back to the stock kernel from 13.10 (version 3.11.0...)? If so, how do I do this? [Bug 1245340] [NEW] Internal michrophone works only in System testing
Public bug reported: I have Packard Bell Dot S netbook (with internal microphone) To reproduce: 1. Start 'System Testing' 2. Select 'Audio tests' 3. During audio test note that you *can* hear yourself (but rather poorly, it's internal mic after all) 4. Go to Sound Settings, Tab->Input 5. 'Record sound from' is empty, input volume is grayed out. 6. Start audacity 7. Press record, speak, press stop 8. Press play 9. Nothing is audible What i expect to happen: If system testing was able to record from the internal mic, i expect other systems to be able to do that as well. What actually happens: System testing is able to perform tasks that other parts of the system are unable to do. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: microphone sound system-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1245340 Title: Internal michrophone works only in System testing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1245340/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1205647] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in g_vfs_job_run()
I can reproduce this issue with the following steps: 1. Open a Nautilus window. (It defaults to my home directory.) 2. Open a new tab or window. (This also opens to my home directory.) 3. In the new tab/window, navigate to a Samba share. (I have one bookmarked so I click on the bookmark in the left side panel.) A new entry for the share appears under Network in the left side panel. 4. Close the new tab/window. 5. In the left side panel, under Network, click the unmount icon next to Samba share entry. At this point, gvfsd-smb crashes. I also get two alert boxes (I believe from Nautilus): 1. Oops! Something went wrong. Unhandled error message: The connection is closed 2. When running exaile under Gnome or xfce, the menu items appear fine. [Bug 1174648] Re: network settings, vpn modules don't load.
I can confirm that on Ubuntu Saucy with gnome-control- center-3.8.5-0ubuntu1~saucy the problem persists. A workaround was to hard-link the files to the correct location (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/NetworkManager/) from the installation location from the plugin packages (/usr/lib/NetworkManager/). Of note: I'm not using Unity - I'm using gnome-shell. Another secondary issue is that the VPN indicator for an OpenConnect VPN on the NetworkManager drop-down doesn't accurately reflect the status of the VPN. The full dialog from Network Settings does reflect it accurately, and allow control over the link. As a result, the NM icon on the notification bar remains as a lock (i.e. indicating the VPN is on) regardless of the actual status. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1174648 Title: network settings, vpn modules don't load. [Bug 1245328] [NEW] Synaptics kernel driver does not report finger width information, breaking usermode driver's palm detection
Public bug reported: While doing some work on the Xorg synaptics driver, I noticed that we never actually detect palm blocking even after running synclient PalmDetect=1. Digging in a bit, the driver claims in its capability bits that it should be sending ABS_TOOL_WIDTH records, but according to evtest(1), the driver never sends these advertised records to userspace. As a result, the Xorg synaptics driver never sees hw->fingerWidth become non-zero in SynapticsDetectFinger and never detects that I've mashed my palm into the large touchpad on this machine. Expected: Kill X. Run evtest(1). Select touchpad device. Move touchpad. See ABS_TOOL_WIDTH records in the event stream. Actual: No ABS_TOOL_WIDTH records even though the device claims to support them in its capability bits. Some updates : Looks like the volume and other shortcut keys in Ubuntu are handled by some core unity session or process which also handles keys like ctrl + alt + l ( lock screen ) other keys too. I am not a big fan of unity and the buggy global menu so I stopped using unity and thats what caused my keys to stop working. If I use plain vanilla unity shell then all keys work perfectly but that creates some annoying issues of dealing with buggy global menu and slow dash ( even with i7 + 6GB ram machine. ) Workaround : Install CCM ( Compiz Config Manager ) then enable "Commands" module plugin then add following commands to your commands list : * Increase volume : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-volume 0 -- +20% * Decrease volume : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-volume 0 -- -20% * Mute : /usr/bin/pactl set-sink-mute 0 toggle * Lock screen : bash -c "xset dpms force off; DISPLAY=:0 gnome-screensaver-command -l" Then using same module shortcuts, map them to whichever keys and it works perfectly ( and always even after boot ). I use "Synapse" tool which is mapped to my Meta ( Windows) keys and I use it to launch all my apps ( much faster than unity dash ). I used help here to get ride of ubuntu gloabl menu : http://askubuntu.com/questions/10481/how-do-i-disable-the-global-application-menu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242259 Title: Thinkpad x1 Volume up down and mute keys stopped working after upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1242259/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1244768] Re: Bluetooth stopped working after upgrade to ubuntu 13.10
Vladimir lg, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update is available for your BIOS (2.57). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.
