[Bug 1256868] Re: Samba (@Precise 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.8) segfaults randomly

2013-12-03 Thread Robie Basak
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 913809 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/913809

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I've found previous reports of this bug, so have marked this as a
duplicate.

It might be worth speaking to upstream about this in the existing
upstream bug, since I don't think they could reproduce this bug
reliably, and it seems you can.

current updates as of 03 Dec 13.

James, you said this worked in Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS, was that with the most
current updates?

[Bug 1257241] [NEW] check_ssh plugin invoked with incorrect parameters

2013-12-03 Thread Simon Murray
Public bug reported:

The configuration file /etc/nagios-plugins/config/ssh.cfg used by
Icinga, which I can only assume is a copy of /usr/share/nagios-plugins

behaviour of the plugin (if it ever worked out the box!) as $arg1
resolves to undef (or '' on the command line) resulting in an empty argv
entry which check_ssh takes offense to

2013-12-03 Thread James C. West
It was whatever was available in July. I installed two XUbuntu 12.04.?
LTS systems under VirtualBbx and confirmed then that it worked before
making the bug report. I also updated both virtual systems through 12.10
and 13.04. As I recall, the problem began when the client system was
updated to 13.04. (Wish I had posted the results of that experiment.)

For the record, I have the same problem with Saucy 13.10.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2013-12-03 Thread Brian Rzycki
Julian: I disagree that this is dhclient's fault. The lease file clearly
shows the NTP servers were received and the contents of
/var/lib/ntpdate/default.dhcp are correctly set to the 3 NTP servers,
showing the dhclient exit hook worked too. At this point it is up to
the ntpclient to use these servers.

Scott: there is no /etc/ntp.conf file. It is not auto-generated by any
script. I would expect the ntp client to honor the DHCP NTP servers if
/etc/ntp.conf does not work.

Robie: The ARM device we have uses a capacitor to store the state of the
RTC. If the device is without power for a few days the RTC completely
resets. We absolutely need NTP working to keep these nodes functioning
properly in a MAAS cluster. I too wonder why ntpdate-debian completely
ignores the DHCP generated file /var/lib/ntpdate/default.dhcp when
/etc/ntp.conf doesn't exist.

If that was addressed at me, I don't think the VMWare Workstation module
would conflict, since open-vm-tools-dkms is designed for use in guest OSes.
In any case, the FTBFS we're seeing is due to the module needing to be
updated for the new kernel in trusty.

[Bug 1257352] [NEW] kvm hangs occasionally when switching out of the qemu console

2013-12-03 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

To recreate (although this does *NOT* fail most of the time alas):

1) press ctrl-alt-2 to switch to the qemu console.
2) type say sendkey ctrl-alt-f1
3) press ctrl-alt-1.

Expected outcome: Switch to tty1 in the VM.

Actual outcome: No switch to tty1 in the VM. and qemu console
unresponsive to any keyboard input.

Rather a vague problem description I'm afraid but this has happened to me 3
times recently. No crash and no excessive CPU is observed.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2013-12-03 Thread Robie Basak
If you set NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=no (eg. from a preseed late_command),
then does this fix the issue?

Sounds to me that we either need to have MAAS do that, or consult with
Debian about the intention of this setting and its interaction with DHCP
in the default case to see if it's a bug or it's intentional.

I understand your use case and think that MAAS should support it, but I
wonder whether just fixing the DHCP hook will work in all cases, or some
other work is required here. My doubt is just that DHCP needs to run
much earlier than usual in the cloud-init case, and so I don't know if
the hook will always run, and therefore just want to make sure. Scott?

during 'maas-import-ephemerals', maas uses mount to mount an ext4
filesystem-in-a-file to convert the ephemeral image that it downloads from
http://maas.ubuntu.com/images into a -root.tar.gz file that curtin will use for
installation.

In the end, try to do this, and you'll see something like:

Tue, 03 Dec 2013 17:17:57 +: converting
/var/lib/maas/ephemeral/precise/ephemeral/amd64/20131010/disk.img to
/var/lib/maas/ephemeral/precise/ephemeral/amd64/20131010/dist-root.tar.gz
mount: Could not find any loop device. Maybe this kernel does not know
   about the loop device? (If so, recompile or `modprobe loop'.)
Tue, 03 Dec 2013 17:17:57 +: failed to mount
/var/lib/maas/ephemeral/precise/ephemeral/amd64/20131010/disk.img

http://askubuntu.com/questions/376345/allow-loop-mounting-files-inside-lxc-containers
describes how to modify a container to allow mount.

It is possible that lxc could allow mount of ext4 filesytems inside a
container by default. I will open a task for lxc for that. However,
even if it did, the user-namespace'd lxc container that we should have
in 14.04 will not work with that.

Attached is instructions on how to recreate this on 12.04 (using cloud-
archive). The same should basically work on trusty (using trusty).

[Bug 1257389] Re: cannot run maas inside lxc container

2013-12-03 Thread Scott Moser
In the interest of having all the info ccontained in this bug, below is
what I had written in the ask-ubuntu response.

You can allow your lxc container to do mounts of ext2, ext3, or ext4
filesystems in one of 2 ways. The simplist is to just add the following
to the lxc config (/var/lib/lxc/$NAME/config):

lxc.aa_profile = unconfined
lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = b 7:* rwm
lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c 10:237 rwm

A much more restrictive solution that still grants the necessary
permissions is to do the following:

$ sudo tee /etc/apparmor.d/lxc/lxc-custom-mounts EOF
# copied and modified from /etc/apparmor.d/lxc/lxc-default
profile lxc-container-extx-mounts flags=(attach_disconnected,mediate_deleted) {
  #include abstractions/lxc/container-base
  mount fstype=ext4 - /**,
  mount fstype=ext3 - /**,
  mount fstype=ext2 - /**,
}
EOF

# reload the lxc-containers profile
$ sudo apparmor_parser --replace /etc/apparmor.d/lxc-containers

$ sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n source-saucy-amd64 --
--release=saucy --arch=amd64

$ name=test1
$ cfg=/var/lib/lxc/$name/config;
$ sudo lxc-clone -o source-saucy-amd64 -n $name

## modify the config to use the profile created above
$ sudo grep #allow-loop $cfg || sudo tee -a $cfg EOF
#allow-loop
lxc.aa_profile = lxc-container-extx-mounts
lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = b 7:* rwm
lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c 10:237 rwm
EOF

[Bug 1257389] Re: cannot run maas-import-ephemerals inside lxc container

2013-12-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
Allowing ext4 mount by default in lxc would require a kernel ('linux'
package) or security team task to vet the ext4 superblock parser etc in
the kernel.

We can however ship a (optional, non-default) apparmor policy allowing
it to make that easier.

I think you need to edit /usr/share/maas/preseeds/generic. Find the
preseed/late_command section.
Then, just before the final true, add another command with :

in-target sed -i 's/NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=yes/NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=no/'
/etc/default/ntpdate

BEFORE:
{{def post_scripts}}
# Executes late command and disables PXE.
d-i preseed/late_command string true  \
in-target sh -c 'f=$1; shift; echo $0  $f  chmod 0440 $f $*'
'ubuntu ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL' /etc/sudoers.d/maas  \
in-target wget --no-proxy {{node_disable_pxe_url|escape.shell}}
--post-data {{node_disable_pxe_data|escape.shell}} -O /dev/null  \
true
{{enddef}}

AFTER:
{{def post_scripts}}
# Executes late command and disables PXE.
d-i preseed/late_command string true  \
in-target sh -c 'f=$1; shift; echo $0  $f  chmod 0440 $f $*'
'ubuntu ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL' /etc/sudoers.d/maas  \
in-target wget --no-proxy {{node_disable_pxe_url|escape.shell}}
--post-data {{node_disable_pxe_data|escape.shell}} -O /dev/null  \
in-target sed -i
's/NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=yes/NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=no/'
/etc/default/ntpdate  \
true
{{enddef}}

 Will this mean all newly-deployed MAAS nodes get
 this change?

Yup.

 the ntpclient to use these servers.

Agreed, I forgot to update my comment after targeting to other projects.

[Bug 1246670] Re: 14e4:4727 [Dell Inspiron 10z (1120)] Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS: can't connect to WIFI

2013-12-03 Thread Piero Bonatti
Dear Christopher, thank you for your message. Unfortunately, what you
suggest is not applicable. The A06 BIOS would break the Windows 7
installation (I have a double installation on this DELL). More
precisely, when I tried to install the BIOS under Win 7 I got an error
message saying that that BIOS version is incompatible with my 64-bit
systems, and the installation was aborted.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks,
Piero

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1195483] Re: [Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A] Installation, Live and Check disc do not start

2013-12-03 Thread Till Kinstler
On Saucy I just got kernel 3.11.0-14 via updates this morning. The bug is not
fixed in this kernel release for Saucy. Same symptoms as described in this bug
report: System boots, but internal screen stays black/blank, though external
display shows Ubuntu desktop.
The bug is fixed in 3.12.0-031200 I got from here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12-saucy/
Setting CSM = enabled doesn't help either, then no kernel boots on my UX31A
(BIOS version 219, latest), but hangs right after selecting it in grub.

[Bug 1138517] Re: Latest compiz update breaks Java Swing decorations

2013-12-03 Thread Piotr Kołaczkowski
I'm on Compiz 0.9.10.2/Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit and this doesn't work for me. Java
popup windows render sometimes incorrectly.
Is there any other version of compiz I should try? Or hasn't this bug been
really fixed?

[Bug 1257206] [NEW] Maguro does not swap between active and held call

2013-12-03 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
Public bug reported:

Maguro is not able to swap between an active call and a held call. To
reproduce the error:

# cd /usr/share/ofono/scripts
# ./dial-number A
# ./dial-number B

In this moment, A must be held and B active

# ./swap-calls

A should be now active and B held. However, this does not happen: B is
still active and there is no communication with B. swap_calls returns
with error org.ofono.Error.Failed: Operation failed, due to RIL
returning a GENERIC_ERROR when the operation is performed.

This looks like an error in the FW, because when we do a list-calls
after dialling the two numbers, the output is

[ /ril_0 ]
[ /ril_0/voicecall01 ]
Name =
LineIdentification = 68113
Multiparty = 0
Emergency = 0
RemoteHeld = 0
State = active
StartTime = 2013-12-03T08:50:43+
RemoteMultiparty = 0
[ /ril_0/voicecall02 ]
Name =
LineIdentification = 91152
Multiparty = 0
Emergency = 0
RemoteHeld = 0
State = active
StartTime = 2013-12-03T08:51:42+
RemoteMultiparty = 0

Both calls are in active state, while the network actually has put the
first call on hold (no communication with A at that moment). RIL is
reporting a wring state.

NOTE: The functionality to swap between calls is only available in
https://github.com/rilmodem/ofono at the moment, not in the Ubuntu
package.

[Bug 1138517] Re: Latest compiz update breaks Java Swing decorations

2013-12-03 Thread Colin Law
This was fixed ages ago, assuming you are using compiz from the ubuntu
repository.  On 13.10 32 bit this is 0.9.10+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1, I
guess 64 bit will be similar. If you still see a problem report a new
bug.

For end user this is visible as any application (rhythmbox, flash in

really good idea to update systemd on Saucy asap.
