[Bug 1297962] Re: [sru] Nova-compute doesnt start
Hello Chuck, or anyone else affected, Accepted nova into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/1:2014.1-0ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . (James is out this week) Looks like chkrootkit has been seeded ever since the start (of server), under the heading System Administration Tools: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu- seeds/ubuntu.trusty/revision/448.1.2 Essentially it's in main because it was deemed useful for the ISO image, and thus must be in main to ship on it. [Bug 1321369] Re: /etc/init.d/samba starts smbd/nmbd improperly
I've seen multiple reports involving the samba, smbd and nmbd services, confusion in their behavior for starting, stopping, restarting, reloading etc, and in interaction between upstart jobs, init.d scripts and the service command. I think these all have the same root cause, which stems from the samba init.d script having started two daemons in the past, that are now managed by separate upstart jobs, and users expectations that a single samba restart will suffice. This may be entirely reasonable, but currently this expectation seems to be broken in certain cases, leading to these reports. So I'm marking the other bugs as duplicates as this one. ** Summary changed: - /etc/init.d/samba starts smbd/nmbd improperly + Unexpected interactions between init.d, upstart, service and samba, smbd and nmbd -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1321369 Title: Unexpected interactions between init.d, upstart, service and samba, smbd and nmbd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1321369/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1317592] Re: cannot log into trusty ubuntu-cloud based LXC containers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It's not clear to me if this would be an issue with openssh, lxc or cloud-init. But I was unable to reproduce your issue. I had to make a couple of amendments to your instructions. First, I presume your lxc-attach is run in a separate terminal to the ssh command (ie. you're trying to ssh from the host, and not the container)? Second, `dig @10.0.3.1 base` didn't work for me. Instead, I used lxc- info -n base to look up the IP address of the container. Apart from this, I was unable to reproduce the issue. [Bug 1322302] Re: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending
looks like part of the problem was that we were running with constraints on cpu greater then the level1 KVM had allocated to it. base KVM had 1 cpu, juju was asking for three: juju add-machine --constraints mem=3G root-disk=20G cpu-cores=3 if we modify the base KVM to have 3 cpus the time drops from 13.5 miutes to 4.5 minutes. Adding cache='unsafe' further reduces the time down to 3 minutes. That said, I still think we need to have an option to tell juju to pull the latest daily images in order to reduce the number of updates applied via cloudinit. uvt-simplestreams-libvirt --verbose sync --source http://cloud- images.ubuntu.com/daily release=precise arch=amd64 ^^ This would be the uvtool cmdline to sync the latest daily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322302 Title: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1322302/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1324111] Re: please remove chkrootkit from main
The impetus to remove chkrootkit is a (still embargoed) issue. The output from such a tool can never be conclusive. No tool can report this host is free of rootkits. When an administrator is suspicious the better suggestion is to save the system image for further inspection and re-install from scratch and restore from backups. Shell scripting is not the language I would pick for this kind of tool. chkrootkit reports that upstart's /sbin/init is part of the Suckit rootkit (bug #454566) with no one caring enough to fix it for four years. I suspect chkrootkit is of mostly historical interest. Re: [Bug 1322302] Re: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending
using latest dailies images and/or hacking juju to not blindly issue apt-get update/upgrade is something i often to do safe a minute per unit (x100s). its also the only way to get kernel updates sans rebooting a machine post deploy. a daily should get us to the same place as the last release plus upgrades, however it does not get qa'd by the cloud images team. [Bug 1322302] Re: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending
Actually the first two suggestions in comment #23 seem perfectly valid against juju - do not overprovision, at least, and perhaps, conditionally, use cache=unsafe. I would assume that in a developer situation, if power is lost during a juju deploy, all vms would get wiped and the charms re-deployed from scratch anyway. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322302 Title: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1322302/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1322302] Re: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending
Ok, then it sounds like the bug should be either invalid or wontfix - be it against qemu or juju. Probably both, since it is the case for both. As I've been repeatedly told, nested qemu (especially on intel) is a convenience/developer feature, and all but unsupported upstream. So we either need to take it upon ourselves to move resources to address it ourselves (as much as possible), or accept facts as they are when designing on top of it.

[Bug 1322302] Re: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending
cache=unsafe only helps a litte. we either need to support daily or more frequent images by default, mainly to avoid the cost of kernel updates or support a feature in juju to allow us to configure what images we want to pull. as a side note, I am happy to get ride of nested kvm if we can get all Openstack services running in containers.
Re: [Bug 1322302] Re: local provider is very slow to tranistion from agent-status: pending
Quoting Daniel Westervelt (daniel.westerv...@canonical.com): cache=unsafe only helps a litte. In comment #23 you said it brought the time from 4.5 to 3 minutes, a 33% improvement. we either need to support daily or more frequent images by default, mainly to avoid the cost of kernel updates or support a feature in juju to allow us to configure what images we want to pull. That still all falls under the purvue of juju. All I am pointing out is that the bug should be marked affecting juju. as a side note, I am happy to get ride of nested kvm if we can get all Openstack services running in containers. One step in this direction would be if we could use mountlo, which is fuse-based, in a container. I haven't had a chance to test it, but it is packaged and in theory it should work. But that is unrelated to the fact that this bug's status against qemu is either invalid (upstream) or wontfix (ubuntu package).

[Bug 1310082] Re: d-i with precise+hwe-s stops at Architecture not supported
Hi, I apologize for late testing, I was off for a few weeks. The original problem as I commented in #3 is not solved yet. The condition in preseed file is not suitable for hwe-{q,r,s,t}. It still uses ports.ubuntu.com for amd64/hwe-{q,r,s,t} and stops at Architecture not supported. http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~maas-maintainers/maas/trunk/view/head:/contrib/preseeds_v2/generic#L5 Except that, other issues have been resolved. [Bug 1324384] [NEW] Speaker volume mutes itself in random intervals after upgrade to 14.04
Public bug reported: I've upgraded from ubuntu 13.10 and sound stopped working properly. It works in general. But mutes itself for small period of time in random intervals. I've looked at alsamixer and it shown what once in a while some of the parameters got to the lowest level and then returning to normal after some time. It is reproing on Speaker. But also Internal Mic Boost jumps from 100% to 0% and then back to 100%. I was not able to fine anything in logs. I've also tried to purge pulseaudio and alsa-base packages and re-installing them again. Nothing helps. But I was able to find workaround. Audio works just fine with old kernels. I've tried with 3.5.0-15 and 3.5.0-27. It works with both kernels. I've also tried newest kernel from next ubuntu version. 3.15.0-031500rc5 - audio is not working in new kernel. So seems like something was broken in kernel since ubuntu 13.10. BTW, when sound mutes on speaker, headphones are still working. The file light-locker-settings.desktop in ~/.config/autostart might be bad. Try replacing it with the same file from /etc/xdg/autostart. You might have to change the file's ownership with chown. [Bug 1297962] Re: [sru] Nova-compute doesnt start
Hello Chuck, or anyone else affected, Accepted nova into trusty-proposed. [Bug 1291461] Re: Lockscreen: keyboard layout switching shortcuts not working
I would argue that this is really fixed for the bug at hand. The bug *only* specifies changing the keyboard layout in the lockscreen and does not specify that the newly selected keyboard layout should carry over back into the session. I'd even argue that the original keyboard layout in the session is the correct behavior, but that should be discussed elsewhere. That said, I think this bug is not verification-failed and a new bug should be entered for discussing whether the newly selected keyboard layout should carry over to the session. ** Tags removed: verification-failed ** Tags added: verification-needed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1291461 Title: Lockscreen: keyboard layout switching shortcuts not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1291461/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1191898] Re: [USB-Audio - USB Sound Blaster HD, playback] fails after reboot
Currently I am running Kubuntu x64 14.04 LTS on Asus G750JX laptop and just until recently had been plagued by exactly the same bug with my Sound Blaster HD USB. Upgrading to a newer kernel and/or installing the latest unstable pulseaudio proved to decrease the probability of triggering the bug, but it just lingered on and didn't want to go. Luckily I was able to find and test a workaround involving four simple components: a custom udev rule; a script to be launched upon triggering this rule; another script to properly load pulseaudio's equalizer modules; finally a session cleanup script to prevent device lockup on warm reboot. After much error and trial I found that the USB Sound Blaster HD would hang when: 1. ...its corresponding ALSA sink is discovered by pulseaudio while pulseaudio simultaneously loads various modules. This causes the device randomly hang on system start. 2. ...its corresponding kernel module snd_usb_audio remains in use at the moment when the device receives an unbind command. This is even worse because once triggered, the device preserves its zombie state across warm reboots (unfortunately few PCs and laptops cycle USB power during a warm reboot) 3. Physical replugging recovers the device, but at least on a few occasions I observed the USB hub itself entering an abnormal state after triggering this bug. Because of this, even physical replugging does not always help. I had to power down the laptop completely. I found that the best way to keep the device from hanging is to ensure that: 1. it remains unmounted until pulseaudio is up and running 2. its module is unloaded (immediately followed by an unbind command) early during system shutdown THE FIX: 1. Create and make executable the following script in your user script folder: ### #!/bin/bash # The following line makes udev behave differently # depending on whether the rule is triggered before # or after pulseaudio has started: if ! $(ps ax | grep [p]ulseaudio /dev/null ) # So if it's the first time the rule is triggered, let's unload # the device's kernel module to ensure safe device removal then modprobe -r snd_usb_audio # Now the module is no longer running, so # we can safely issue an unbind command echo $1 | tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind # Let's wait for pulseaudio to start... while ! $(ps ax | grep [p]ulseaudio /dev/null) do sleep 1 done # ...then one extra second to let finish loading modules: sleep 1 # Now we can safely bind the device: echo $1 | tee /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/bind fi # At this point the rule is triggered again and the script # has a second run, but does nothing so udev just proceeds # to automatically load the snd_usb_audio module ### 2. Create a udev rule that launches the script upon device discovery, passing its USB address as an argument: ### ACTION==add, SUBSYSTEMS==usb, ATTRS{idVendor}==041e, ATTRS{idProduct}==30d7, ATTRS{manufacturer}==Creative Technology, ATTRS{product}==USB Sound Blaster HD, RUN+=/home/user/.scripts/load- usb-audio.sh $attr{busnum}-$attr{devpath} ### 3. If you are using pulseaudio equalizer, remove these two lines from /etc/pulse/default.pa: ### pacmd load-module module-dbus-protocol pacmd load-module module-equalizer-sink sink_name=equalized ### Then create and make executable the following script in your user script folder: ### #!/bin/bash # Let's wait until we can say for sure that pulseaudio is running # and the USB device has been given time to initialize gracefully while ! $(lsmod | grep [s]nd_usb_audio /dev/null); do sleep 1; done # Then another second, otherwise there's # a slim chance of triggering the bug sleep 1 # Now we can safely load equalizer modules: pacmd load-module module-dbus-protocol pacmd load-module module-equalizer-sink sink_name=equalized ### Make the above script execute as user upon login. The script must be aware of the user's pulseaudio session, otherwise it will fail (e.g. plainly starting it from ~/.profile won't work) In KDE, the best way to achieve this is to add the script as a 'desktop file' to the Autorun section in System Settings. Anything added as a 'desktop file' acts the same as if it were started by the user from their desktop environment, while 'script file' entries are not aware of user's dbus / pulseaudio sessions, etc. Other distros may employ different methods so please make sure pacmd has access to the user's pulseaudio session during script execution. 4. Lastly, create and make executable the following script in your user script folder: ### # let's find the device's USB port: for f in $(ls -1L /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/*/product) do if [ $(cat $f) == USB Sound
[Bug 1324251] Re: AppArmor denies guest from create/modify 9pfs files
The patch says to add: # to create and modify with 9p shares capability fowner, capability fsetid, While AppArmor is enabled by default with libvirt in Ubuntu and the apparmor profile will limit file operations to only what is specified in the profile regardless of whether fowner or fsetid is set, granting the capabilities gives it to all VMs regardless of whether they need 9pfs or not. I'm somewhat uncomfortable allowing this, at least until there is more information on why it is needed. IIUC, the 9pfs filesystem can be used so multiple VMs can access the same filesystem. However, in libvirt all VMs either run as root (non- default configuration) or as a specific non-root user (the default configuration runs as libvirt-qemu on Ubuntu), so I'm confused as to why these capabilities are needed at all. Can you give more details on your environment and why these are needed? ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324251 Title: AppArmor denies guest from create/modify 9pfs files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1324251/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is Invalid. It is not true that accounts need to be explicitly autho[r]ized, back in the account detail page in system settings: as shown in the spec, they should be authorized using a UOA-provided dialog within the app. http://goo.gl/TiAr83 open[ing] the account permissions page once the account is ready wouldn't work as an alternative to this, because UOA has no knowledge of which apps might want to use the account.
