[Bug 1335476] Re: package php5-curl 5.5.3+dfsg-1ubuntu2.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-07-06 Thread Ondřej Surý
You broke your system somehow, starting with:

Start-Date: 2014-06-08 13:08:10
Commandline: apt-get -f install
Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
End-Date: 2014-06-08 13:08:11

This should not happen unless you have accidentally deleted couple of
directories...

debconf: DbDriver config: mkdir :No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing man-db (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

I am reassigning this bug to debconf, that's as closest you can get to
the error message in the logs.

[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom default keyboard shortcuts don't work

2014-07-06 Thread Colin Law
@Martin, I am not going to get involved in an argument, I am only trying
to help. I suspect the reason this bug is no longer getting attention
is that the devs looked at it months ago and since the bug as described
(custom shortcuts not working) was no longer showing itself they have
lost interest and unsubscribed from the bug. My suggestion to open a
new bug describing succinctly the problem you are seeing was not for my
benefit it was for yours. A new bug, referencing 14.04 in particular,
and if confirmed by others, is more likely to get attention than
continuing to flog away at this one.

[Bug 1326885] Re: desktop start rotated

2014-07-06 Thread Zhang Weiwu
I won't report again with latest kernel because (from my experience) I
do not expect it to be solved (or that it solved because of people
reporting bugs), but I still provide the following information to save
the time for those who wish to find a workaround - I do not know a
workaround, but I know the following would not work:

The following methods would not prevent the desktop to rotate automatically
after login:
- delete /lib/udev/accelerometer
- comment out the only line in /lib/udev/rules.d/61-accelerometer.rules

Since the rotate-after-login does not alter input matrix, which is still
horizental, touch-screen will be useless right after login, until you
rotate the screen back (with xrandr -o randr). If, instead of preventing
auto-rotate-after-login, you wish to rotate input matrix as well to make
the machine at least usable, the following command would not work:

$ xinput set-prop 9 --type=float Coordinate Transformation Matrix 0 -1
1 1 0 0 0 0 1

The effect of that command is zero: input matrix remain the same
(horizental) while the screen is auto-rotated to vertical.

If you wish to study the issue, a starting point is the accelerometer device,
which can be found in
/proc/bus/input/devices

Find out the event device (in my case event4) then you can find out which
driver drives it by:
$ cat /sys/devices/platform/asus_laptop/input/input4/device/driver

[Bug 1326885] Re: desktop start rotated

2014-07-06 Thread Zhang Weiwu
I noticed this bug is marked as kernel-bug-exists-upstream -- I do not
think this is a kernel bug, because everything was fine before login, a
kernel bug should exhabit before login. Also that it only affects after-
login, not affecting screen rotation during the session. But I am no
expert to remove that tag with confidence.

[Bug 1297849] Re: VPN Connection fails after last upgrade on 14.04

2014-07-06 Thread Stefano Bagnatica
I confirm that the problem is solved renaming .gconf directory (from
terminal mv .gconf gconf-backup), and doing logout and login.

@jrios: there is no need to create another admin user, as your user
itself can move / delete its .gconf directory.

Would be good to find why this was needed... as I think that this
operation could lose some other configs..

[Bug 471457] Re: Shutdown does not have priority over suspend/hibernation

2014-07-06 Thread alon
If anyone who knows how listens:
Please try and add a waiting piriod of about 5 seconds before suspend kicks in
(Whenever it's invoked).
This way the Shutdown process will have time to kick in before suspend does,
thus enabling the shutdown instead of suspend, and without any real troubles
with the everyday work.

I am most humbely willing to be a guiny pig for this, It's just that I
don't know how...

[Bug 1338191] Re: Install crash

2014-07-06 Thread Filip Sohajek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1338211] [NEW] Czech version of power-suspendfail contains grammar errors

2014-07-06 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Public bug reported:

Page https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/ubuntu-help/power-suspendfail.html
contains these grammatical errors:

1.) smáčkněte, it should be zmáčkněte
2.) smáčknout = zmáčknout

3.) To not produce more silly bug report, here is another problem I mentioned
in English version:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PowerManagement/Hibernate

00sleep_module should be replaced by sleep_module (remove two
zeros).

Unfortunately, both pages are not editable so I can't fix it myself.

[Bug 1283938] Re: [Samsung NP535U4X-S01TH] Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-07-06 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
HI,
my setup:
- Lenovo T530 with NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [NVS 5400M] (rev a1)
- Ubuntu 14.04 with mainline kernel 3.14.9
- NVIDIA driver nvidia-331-updates:

My computer hanged during hibernate resume just after reading the image from
the disk.
I found working solution by reading non-editable file:
/usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults
This worked for me (so now hibernation works again):

1.) echo HIBERNATE_RESUME_POST_VIDEO=\no\ | sudo tee
/etc/pm/config.d/hibernate
2.) Just to be sure (probably unnecessary):
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo reboot

3.) Test
sudo pm-hibernate

4.) Alternative test:
# press ctrl+alt+1 (go to virtual terminal)
sudo pm-hibernate

[Bug 1331375] Re: Update Chromium to = 35.0.1916.153 (including security fixes)

2014-07-06 Thread f00fbug
Another possibility is that Chromium get not updated is that with
release 35 NPAPI got removed and therfore the Adobe flash plugin do not
work anymore and users have to pull in chromium-pepper-flash. However I
agree do put users at security risk due to browser vulnerabilities which
are already fixed in newer releases is a problem.

[Bug 1334549] Re: update-manager: An unresolvable problem occurred

2014-07-06 Thread Roland Giesler
This problem has repeatedly appeared on my machine (14.04) over the last
few weeks.

When it happens, I delete the file /var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_universe_i18n_Translation-en, run
apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and it goes away.

However, a few days later, the same problem occurs.

[Bug 1301158] Re: nm-applet icon invisible

2014-07-06 Thread Mélodie
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1308348 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308348

Hi,
Now the icon shows, the wired connection is established at boot time and again
when disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the machine. If I connect the
wifi on the fly it still works too, and if I disconnect the wifi right after,
it switches interface and IP without problem.

The solution is in the /etc/network/interfaces file.

The attached patch below solved it for me, I hope it can solve it for
everyone.

Regards,
Mélodie

[Bug 1338224] [NEW] screen tearing on nvidia hybrid graphics

2014-07-06 Thread Sunbriel
Public bug reported:

Info

Ubuntu 14.04
Asus K95VJ
Hybrid graphics (Intel and Nvidia GT 635M)
Recommended 331.38 drivers

I've been experiencing video tearing everywhere in Ubuntu 14.04, whether it be
just while moving windows or watching videos. The system is up to date and I
use the recommended Nvidia 331.38 drivers installed via Additional Drivers. I
tried every fix out there I could find, but none worked - the screen tearing is
still all over the place. However, when switching to Intel (with PRIME option
in Nvidia settings), the tearing is no longer there. Unfortunately I cannot use
only Intel graphics as I do graphically heavy tasks.

I have also noticed that Nvidia settings does not remember me setting
screen resolution to 1920x1080, but rather resets it to 960x540 each
time I reboot the notebook (though visually, the screen remains at
1920x1080, but when moving cursor to the right edge of the screen, it
acts as there is more screen space to the monitor, and leaves the
screen completely). Also, each time I have to re-set the resolution to
the proper one, it asks me to Auto Fix or Ignore some monitor settings.

One more thing I noticed in Compiz settings is that it resets Refresh
Rate to 50 on each reboot, even though I set it to 60.

[Bug 1308348] Re: network settings indicator missing from panel

2014-07-06 Thread Mélodie
Hi,

In an Ubuntu Trusty home made with the mini.iso and a full Openbox
environment, I also met with a missing nm-applet indicator along with a
bug being the wired network working only just after boot, but never
coming back when disconnected and reconnected during a X session.

I had also met it in a Live Lubuntu Trusty booted from USB on a eeepc
where besides the wireless was working fine (but not the wired
connection, when the wireless was used first, and wired added after,
even if wireless would be deactivated).

I fixed it in my Openbox branded version by modifying the content of the
/etc/network/interfaces as shown here, in that bug report which is said to be a
duplicate of here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/1301158/comments/12

I just switched the interfaces file with the one from my Ubuntu Precise
install.

I see in the comments above, it has also been talked about update-
notifier : indeed, it does not work start in Trusty with Openbox here
either, and I think it should show.

Are there other bug reports elsewhere related to the start of update-
notifier? I am going to try to find out.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2014-07-06 Thread Jacob Godserv
This is a very difficult issue because it amounts to a fairly major
feature change underneath. Every access has to be wrapped by a
permissions check, followed by an authentication. Someone tried to patch
this into the file manager a while back, but the patch never got
approved.

The real bug is the GNOME bug. That's where most of the work happens,
and that's where this bug has been prioritized out of scope for years.

[Bug 1338237] [NEW] No userfriendly way to add networkshare in Xubuntu thunar

2014-07-06 Thread Berry Heerschop
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

thunar:
  Installed: 1.6.3-1ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1.6.3-1ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 1.6.3-1ubuntu5 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Is there a userfriendly way of adding a networkshare in Xubuntu thunar? In
Ubuntu nautilus it's a right mouse click and very straightforward. In thunar
I've tried creating a custom action with a 'net usershare add' command and
applying that on the desired folder. I've also tried adding a samba share
manually. Both are not very userfriendly compared to the process in nautilus.
I would like to mark this bug as a 'wishlist'.

[Bug 1332385] Re: Applications Menu plugin not showing Wine Programs submenu

2014-07-06 Thread Phil Pemberton
I can confirm this. If I use the Whisker menu, the WINE Programs menu
appears fine. But on the Applications menu, it doesn't.
