[Bug 1338277] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 + QEmu 2.0 + KSM = 1, makes Windows 2008 R2 guests to crash (BSOD)
Quoting myself from comment #1: Also, Windows 7, when with KSM enabled, crashes during the installation, every time. After disabling KSM, I was able to install and use Windows 7 without any crash, and with SPICE! So, maybe, with Windows 7 ISO CD in hands, this problem might be easy to reproduce, while with Windows 2008 R2, it randomly crashes within ~2 hours... My old Windows 7 ISO CD (collection) have some incompatibility with new QEmu / Linux, after download it again, from Micro$oft.com (file name: 7600.16385.090713-1255_x64fre_enterprise_en-us_EVAL_Eval_Enterprise-GRMCENXEVAL_EN_DVD.iso), Windows 7 isn't crashing anymore on QEmu 2.0, it works now. But, KSM is still disabled. I can not enable KSM anymore because it crashes... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. [Bug 1315156] Re: nvidia-331 selected but nouveau loads
Also affected on a Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc7800p Convertible Minitower/0AACh, BIOS 786F1 v01.32 07/21/2011 with nvidia GeForce GT 520 board. Workarounds by Rebecca Palmer at #5 (many thanks!) did not entirely suffice: Had to additionally add blacklist nouveau to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf even after sudo apt-get remove nouveau as well as de- and reselecting the proprietary one from System Settings / Software Updates / Additional Drivers - which (even while the system was actually using nouveau) had been shown all the time as Using NVIDIA binary driver - version 311.38 from nvidia-331 (proprietary, tested) with a green light for NVIDIA Corporation: GF119 [GeForce GT 520 and as 1 proprietary driver in use. Symptoms: nvidia-settings shows only minimal menu with no information on monitor(s) or GPU. prime-select query returns the string unknown rather than nvidia. /var/log/syslog is flooded with lines (dozens per second) to the tune of kernel: [ 1195.548660] nouveau W[ PFIFO][:01:00.0] INTR 0x0100: 0x0005. /var/log/syslog has these lines: kernel: [ 11.695523] NVRM: The NVIDIA probe routine was not called for 1 device(s). kernel: [ 11.695526] NVRM: This can occur when a driver such as: kernel: [ 11.695526] NVRM: nouveau, rivafb, nvidiafb or rivatv kernel: [ 11.695526] NVRM: was loaded and obtained ownership of the NVIDIA device(s). kernel: [ 11.695529] NVRM: Try unloading the conflicting kernel module (and/or kernel: [ 11.695529] NVRM: reconfigure your kernel without the conflicting kernel: [ 11.695529] NVRM: driver(s)), then try loading the NVIDIA kernel module kernel: [ 11.695529] NVRM: again. kernel: [ 11.695532] NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter probed! kernel: [ 11.695850] NVRM: NVIDIA init module failed! nouveau (or possibly just some of the related mode-switching) is deprecated due to resume issues in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (of which this is a fresh install) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2217536s=da1e9ef7ae0c51c40110e1b8e1347b47p=12993037#post12993037 which are resolved only for a few in threads such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1283938 (cf. #138 et seq. there) that like this one have been all too long-standing in an Unassigned state. Remaining issue now that the proprietary nvidia driver finally loads is that Systems Settings / Sound / Play sound through: HDMI / DisplayPort2: iGF119 HDMI Audio Controller/i works only intermittently and for 2 rather than 5.1 channels. Any (auto-)tweak for the ELD (captured through the Acquire EDID... button from the DFP-1 menu of nvidia-settings) to be loaded from file (whichever comes in place of /etc/X11 these days) rather than by DDC would be very welcome. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315156 Title: nvidia-331 selected but nouveau loads To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-331/+bug/1315156/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1294163] Re: Please update precise nvidia drivers to support 3.13 trusty backport kernel
Correction: The workaround, described above, does not solve the problem, black screens after resume from hibernate again. [Bug 1335613] Re: Bad interaction between code snippets and autocompletion plugin in gedit
** Description changed: On ubuntu 14.04 64bits (did not occur in 12.04) gedit 3.10.4-0ubuntu4 gedit-plugins 3.10.1-1ubuntu2 I have activated the completion plugin provided in the 'EditPreferencePlugins' menu. Example: with the following test snippet begin($1) ... end($1) suppose I start typing 'wh...' in place of $1 and 'while' is proposed by the autocompletion plugin, then if I press enter, I get something like begin(whwhilewhwhile) instead of begin(while) ... end(while) - Moreover pressing ctrl+c to cancel yiels even messier results. + Moreover pressing ctrl+z to cancel yiels even messier results. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1335613 Title: Bad interaction between code snippets and autocompletion plugin in gedit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1335613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1341270] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 freezes on resume from suspend: GeForce GT 520 GPU with nouveau or proprietary nvidia-331 drivers, even when booted nosplash noquiet
Public bug reported: Generating individual reports as requested by Chris Bainbridge in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1283938 via ubuntu-bug linux. After forcing switch from nouveau to nvidia-331 (a sad story in itself as the System Settings pretend to handle that: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers-331/+bug/1315156) at least apportcheckresume does catch the issue as attached, but after Continue gives no further indication what data has been sent where (if at all) and how it may be commented or complemented, i.e. nothing opens in the browser, only local password prompt(s). Sometimes the screen shows a blinking text console mode prompt and the NumLock key can still turn its LED on and off for a few seconds under nivida-331 before the machine freezes with fans running after resume, while nouveau would even permit Ctrl-Alt-F1 occasionally (but then has other log-flooding issues as indicated at the prior link). Not being able to resume after suspend has kept my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS installation unusable for 3 months already. [Bug 1341275] [NEW] Kernel panic in rtl8821ae on GB-BXi7-4470R
Public bug reported: After updating the system to linux-image-3.13.0-30-generic (trusty- updates), the encounters a kernel panic during boot in the rtl8821ae module. This prevents the system from booting. This appears to be an issue relating to the mPCI WiFi+BT module (Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. [Bug 1297065] Re: [needs-packaging]openjdk-8 in ubuntu
Security updates would apply, but I don't think this would be considered a security update, since this is an entirely new version and this source package (openjdk-8) isn't present in 14.04.
