[Bug 1342574] [NEW] Samba crashing on null path in cleanup_tmp_files

2014-07-16 Thread paul_crane
Public bug reported:

Hi Everyone,

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, and the samba package from the repos, and am
getting the following panic-action email when the system starts up. I'm
also not able to start samba manually after boot either.

Here's a back-trace:

If I'm interpreting right, the recursive_delete is getting a null path

 Could you try disabling KSM and see if that avoids the issue?

I set KSM_ENABLED=0 in /etc/default/qemu-kvm and restarted the server.

Also today after 3 weeks it started the same thing with Saucy kernel
too.

[Bug 990129] Re: Suspend/Resume hangs and fails - Ubuntu 12.04LTS

2014-07-16 Thread Toby
For those of you looking for a workaround until this bug gets a proper
fix...

The following has worked for me on Ubuntu 14.04 x64 running on an intel
based motherboard (Core i3 2nd gen) with Realtek onboard ethernet

Step 1: Open up a terminal and create a script file as follows:

~~~
gksudo gedit /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd
~~~

Step 2: copy and paste the following code into the file:

~~~
#!/bin/sh
# File: /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd.
TMPLIST=/tmp/ehci-dev-list
case ${1} in
hibernate|suspend)
;;
resume|thaw)
 chvt 1
 chvt 7
;;
esac
~~~

Step 3:
Give the script permission to run by typing the following in the terminal:

~~~
sudo chmod 755 /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd
~~~

NOTE 1: This script was found from this thread:-

demarcate code blocks from the rest of the text.

I've personally not seen it, and noone on my team, who use a lot of
kvm instances, has seen it. Our two current theories are that (a) it
has to do with ksm page migration across numa-nodes, or (b) it has to
do with a race with transparent hugepages versus ksm. For (b) there is
already a commit in Linus' tree (f72e7dcd). For (a), you can probably
test by setting /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/merge_across_nodes to 0. (We are
trying these as well, but as the testcases are not 100% positive
it'd be good to have you try as well)

Thanks for reporting this bug. However, it sounds like running anything
remotely heavyweight during the scans would have the same result, so
this is not a bug in qemu. I've marked it as affecting the kernel, as

 nbd-server.

However very clearly oldstyle = true has been set in the config. This
config is definitely being read, because setting oldstyle = blah gives
an error about invalid boolean.

Looking at source: it seems that glob_flags is not updated until after
parse_cfile has returned:

servers = parse_cfile(config_file_pos, genconf, err);

/* Update global variables with parsed values. This will be
 * removed once we get rid of global configuration variables. */
glob_flags   |= genconf.flags;

However this warning comes from within parse_cfile and based on the
previous glob_flags setting.

if(s.port  !(glob_flags  F_OLDSTYLE)) {
g_warning(A port was specified, but oldstyle exports
were not requested. This may not do what you expect.);
g_warning(Please read 'man 5 nbd-server' and search
for oldstyle for more info);
}

And a process *is* running and listening on port 20001.

[Bug 1342972] [NEW] Sync celery 3.1.12-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-07-16 Thread Jackson Doak
Public bug reported:

Please sync celery 3.1.12-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- Drop issue tracker for doc generation as it adds a build-dep that it
  is not really necessary for this package to build. This allows us to
  MIR celery without MIR'ing the dependency.
Fixed in debian

Changelog entries since current utopic version 3.1.11-1ubuntu1:

celery (3.1.12-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Drop python-sphinxcontrib.issuetracker from Build-Depends as it is no
longer needed (Closes: #750528).
  * Bump Depends and Build-Depends for kombu to 3.0.19.
  * Add autopkgtest that runs the upstream test suite against the installed
packages.

[Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

2014-07-16 Thread Jacob van der Meulen
I had the same problem and found out that there is a different behaviour
of the drbd agent between just stop and start the drbd resource or
rebooting the system. When you stop drbd, the drbd module stay loaded so
when you start drbd again, the validity check of the agent correctly
detects an 8.3 module. However when you reboot, no module is loaded yet
so the validity check thinks we have an 8.4 module. Then the agent loads
the module but does not check the validity any more. So it uses the 8.4
tools to create the drbd devices. This fails! Adding a call to the
validity check function just after the module is loaded fixes this
problem. So no need to revert.

I just found this by trial and error so it could have side effects.
Maybe Stefan can confirm that this is really fixing something.

2014-07-16 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I can see why it would hang on the line you've said - I presume the
client will never see remote software version in this case.

I wonder if a fix would be to have line add -Snone to the ssh call, so
that no control socket is ever used.

[Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 needs bluetooth driver

2014-07-16 Thread Geoff Kelsall
I do not understand why Bug #1234541 is not a duplicate of this bug.
Surely the cause of bluetooth not toggling on is that there is no
driver? Please could you explain.

[Bug 705880] Re: please update pppoe to new upstream version

2014-07-16 Thread Whoopie
Thanks for your review:

1. The dh_prep is easy to fix, I can change that.
2. the quilt patches are just the patches which were applied inline before. All
the changes were documented in the changelog before.
3. the patch 07_force-hw-address.patch was applied inline before, but is
commented out in the series file now.
4. I already tried to get another patch upstream, and I failed. But the changes
are already in the current version, I can't see why it's a problem now.
5. no, sorry.

[Bug 1342555] [NEW] is environment-modules dead?

Public bug reported:

Last news was 2011 with the release in October. Nothing since. Is it
still appropriate to keep this in the repositories? Is it abandoned?

I don't use the package myself but was made aware of this by a question
posted by a user on Launchpad.net

[Bug 1043043] Re: Prompts for both the user and group passwords even though group password has been saved

2014-07-16 Thread Bevan Bennett
I've also been having this issue since updating from 13.10 to 14.04.

There seemed to be about a 20% chance that the VPN client would work
correctly each time I invoked it, which led to frustrating repeated
invocations hoping to get lucky.

The one line hack from comment #34 appears to have made it work again.

[Bug 1338587] Re: [MIR] trust-store

2014-07-16 Thread Thomas Voß
Thanks for the review. Please see my comments inline.

- data/system.conf had wide-open dbus config
  I don't know if this is an issue or not -- I suspect it is fine, but I
  wanted to make sure it was raised all the same

The file was used in testing before dbus-cpp offered a complete testing
solution including sane fixtures for setting up bus instances for
testing purposes. Removed both configuration files.

- handle_add_query() thread-unsafe
  This may also be fine, but I felt it ought to be mentioned

Good catch, but not an issue right now as the underlying reactor is
executed on a single thread and requests are handled in a serial manner.

- Directory() is created mode 0777
  This should change to 0755; perhaps 0700.

Fixed.

[Bug 1342561] [NEW] Touchpad not recognized + Fn Keys not working (ACPI errors)

2014-07-16 Thread verion GmbH
Public bug reported:

The touchpad is not recognized.
The psmouse.proto=bare hotfix does not work.
The i8042.noaux i8042.reset does not work, even though the touchpad would
work in PS2 compat mode (under Win7).

The FN keys are not working at all, probably due to some strange ACPI
decode errors in the syslog.

[Bug 1342424] Re: update-notifier presents unclear update message

2014-07-16 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks for your bugreport.

I can reproduce this bug here. The code is using strftime(%x) so it
should print a localized date. And the motd pam.d is run after the pam
module loads /etc/default/locale. I'm investigating further.

[Bug 1342568] [NEW] bluetooth connect fails

2014-07-16 Thread JPTTEST
Public bug reported:

I want to connect to a BT-serial adapter. Always get the error Unknown
command complete for opcode 37.

If I supply the correct pin, connection is reported successful, but the
device immediately disappears.

I tried three different host BT hardware and two different PCs. always
the same.

Kubuntu 14.04
Bluez-4.101-ubuntu13

syslog: First with correct pin, second using wrong pin:

bluetoothd[1107]: Discovery session 0x7f66d5221040 with :1.117 activated
bluetoothd[1107]: Unknown command complete for opcode 37
bluetoothd[1107]: Stopping discovery

bluetoothd[1107]: Discovery session 0x7f66d52209a0 with :1.118 activated
bluetoothd[1107]: Unknown command complete for opcode 37
bluetoothd[1107]: Stopping discovery
bluetoothd[1107]: hci0: Cancel Pair Device (0x001a) failed: Invalid Parameters
(0x0d)

How do I enable more detailed logging?

I am quite sure this is no duplicate of those BT-suspend bugs. Because
it always fails and the rfkill workaround doesn't help.

Maybe try booting with video.allow_duplicates=1 added to the kernel

[Bug 1329374] Re: kernel panic pressing return in terminal that spawned emulator

2014-07-16 Thread James Hunt
Yes. And with --memory=2048 and --memory=4096. The crash is triggered by
any key press fwiw.

What's interesting is that if I press a key immediately (that is to say
*before* the kernel has started and the emulator is busy spewing out
information on its config), the panic won't occur until after the kernel
has started userland. But I will always get a panic at that post-
userland-started point if I press the return early.

For example, if I press a key immediately, the panic doesn't occur until

[Bug 1297849] Re: VPN Connection fails after last upgrade on 14.04

2014-07-16 Thread E. Lefty Kreouzis
I noticed the following - in the login sceen if I wait for the WiFi
network connection to be established then once I log in I can start/stop
VPN connections

If I log in before the connection is established then I am not allowed
to start/stop VPN connections

This is supported by the fact that I have created an extra user login -
if I can't start/stop VPN connections with my normal user id, if I
switch to the extra login I can start/stop them

[Bug 1342570] [NEW] Bluetooth RFCOMM: Transport endpoint not connected (kernel regression)

2014-07-16 Thread Petr Stehlik
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04's Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) check forced me to upgrade to
trusty's kernel:
* Install a newer HWE version by running:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-generic-lts-trusty

Since then bluetooth communication fails with Transport endpoint not
connected. It does work OK if I reboot back to soon-to-be unsupported
kernel 3.5.0.x

This is a known kernel 3.13 regression, please see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1060457

If it is indeed fixed in kernel 3.14 please backport the fix to trusty's
kernel, or perhaps get 3.14 kernel into trusty. The current 3.13 is not
a good upgrade.

Thanks!
