[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2014-08-08 Thread Darren Wright
Hello Raja,

needed sleep. Okay I did:

New install of Ubuntu 14.04
package updates + additional software (Nvidia 331.38 fom nvidia(Proprietary,
tested)
reboot

now whenever I leave the touchpad enabled (FN+F12 on Mx17) and use it, i
get random freezes whenever i actually move using the touchpad. (not
sure if 100%related but seems to be)

disabled touchpad and no locks, reenabled and inside of 2 minutes it
locked.

If you are trying to make this happen and you don't lock inside of 5
minutes with the t-pad, you dont have the issue I have..

I also went into BIOS and enabled the Intel only graphics, problem also
gone. But kinda depressing for Left4Dead ;)

[Bug 1042388] Re: qemu: Unsupported syscall: 257 (timer_create)

2014-08-08 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
I've been looking at it over the last week or so and I have submitted a
patch toe the qemu-devel mailing list to fix another timer_create()
problem sometime in the last week.

Unfortunately the test case @pittit submitted is far harder to support
than the original test case. In this case the timer_create() syscall
gets passed pointers to functions and data in the target's address space
and I have not figured out how to handle that yet.

[Bug 1354654] [NEW] Bug #1342377 with dual Radeon HD 6570 + amd-catalyst-14-4-rev2-linux-x86-x86-64-may6

2014-08-08 Thread GJT
Public bug reported:

xserver-xorg-core-lts-trusty conflicts Radeon HD 6570

All in Ubnuntu 12.04LTS I did the hardware update 'strongly
recomended' and the upgrade deleted my radeon drivers. I got an
unstable sparkely screen and had to return to a previous ubuntu version
to fix.

I had Bug #1342377, but succeded in loading the radeon module, amd-
catalyst-14-4-rev2-linux-x86-x86-64-may6, which worked fine till I
updated, then I got no video at all: That's the new bug

The Update loaded the xserver-xorg-core-lts-trusty, the core server as
well as xserver-comon-lts-trusty, various c library functions and Grub
updates. It had a warning that it was a partial update.

There was no reference to this in ubuntu forums., or

I have an Asus M5A97R2.0 motherboard with 2 Radeon HD 6570 with 2gig of
memory each running a syntax display at 1250x720 via a vga cable. It
has a dvi port, but I have never bothered to update that hardware. The
system is about 10 months old except for the monitor, which is 12, I
think.

I also tried to run the xubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso, but got no
video from the live cd at all. That'd likely be the same video conflict
in the next version X windows.

Then, if you're having trouble compiling dosbox from svn, that's an
upstream bug and should be reported at the dosbox bugtracker
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=52551&atid=467232) by
following the instructions at

[Bug 1351480] Re: Metacity-common Critical issue

2014-08-08 Thread Silvio Bierman
I can confirm this bug. I upgraded to 14.10 about three weeks ago and
the Software Updater has been complaining about not being able to
install al updates for about a week now. I use "aptitude upgrade" to do
the partial update but a "aptitude dist-upgrade" says it will remove
compiz, unity and a lot of other ciritcal stuff. The cause seems to be
in a metacity-common package version conflict.

Please resolve this issue.

I will attach the file /var/log/pm-suspend.log

I'm guessing whether the problem lies on the video card or not. You see
I have a nvidia video card with driver nvidia-173.

appreciated.

[Bug 1349108] Re: Disconnections problems each day after upgrade linux-firmware:amd64 (1.127.4, 1.127.5)

2014-08-08 Thread Alexandre Neveux
Hi Seth,

Since last week, I try to solve this issue.

After reading the description to bug #1293569, I renamed the
iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode to iwlwifi-7260-8.backup in /lib/firmware.

The wireless works fine since last saturday (2014/08/02) : no issue
occurs at startup, at wake up or after several hours in use.

So, it's OK for me. This issue is resolved.

Thanks for the previous information.

Regards.

good measure.)

I have been using Ubuntu since the first edition. I used Debian for 5
years before switching it Ubuntu. The Gallium driver was already
installed on the system. I decided the fglrx driver was not refined for
14.10. I thought the Gallium driver is Ubuntu default?

[Bug 1354633] [NEW] System Settings icon doesn't change to icon of the chosen application as it was before

2014-08-08 Thread Андрей Кацупий
Public bug reported:

After launching System Settings and then choosing one of the applications the
chosen application icon doesn't appear in the launcher. But the icon of the
whole System Settings still remain.
Otherwise if launching one of the settings (e.g. "Privacy" of whatever)
applications directly from the dash and then press "All settings" the icon of
first application remains in the launcher no matter what settings application
runs.

Ubuntu 14.04.1, unity 7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1.1, unity-control-
center 14.04.3+14.04.20140604-0ubuntu1.

Same issue on two machines - 32-bit and 64-bit with the same versions of
software.

** Attachment added: "System Settings is there in the launcher while Privacy
runs at the time."

[Bug 1292467] Re: Dual screen greeter can break 3D acceleration

the external TV on every reboot is a minor inconvience.

When Henry in comment #5 made his post I was automatically e-mailed the
message along with his e-mail address. This is an EVEN BIGGER BUG on

[Bug 1354598] Re: No video on touchscreen -- Dell Venue 11 Pro 7130

2014-08-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Steven Collins, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. However, I am closing it because as per the Bug Description the
bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Trusty
Tahr.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please first perform a full reverse commit
bisect in order to identify the fix following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
.

Once that is complete, then perform as much as possible of the SRU
Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

[Bug 1336783] Re: [MIR] python-ecdsa

2014-08-08 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed python-ecdsa version 0.11-1 as checked into utopic. This
should not be considered a full security audit; no effort has been made
to verify that this library is free from timing leaks, information leaks,
nor cryptographically relevant implementation flaws. Anyone interested
in relying upon this library would be wise to consult with a professional
cryptographer to determine suitability for purpose.

Because the codebase is short and sweet, I'll skip the more exhaustive
checklist. This library doesn't daemonize, doesn't do networking, doesn't
provide exotic interfaces. It just does DER and ECC.

The code looks clean and careful, parameters are checked for validity,
there are copious references to authoritative sources to find algorithms,
enough test vectors to have confidence in simple uses of the library, and
the scope of the project is small enough that it is unlikely to need
drastic work.

With a quick re-iteration that there are many different kinds of
implementation flaws that are fatal to cryptographic libraries that are
well beyond the scope of a quick review, the code looks straightforward.

Security team ACK for promoting python-ecdsa to main.

[Bug 1354410] Re: kerneloops on suspend: failure of previous suspend

2014-08-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rikki, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you
please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the
top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1352567] Re: [Asus AM1M-A] OOPS in cpufreq driver

2014-08-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
post-factum, as bugzilla is not a preferred or primary point of contact
for upstream as per upstream, you are largely wasting your time with it.
You would want to post to the appropriate mailing list with the
previously noted details, CC'ing the maintainer and perhaps someone who
have committed towards your driver recently (~3-6 months)..

[Bug 1207217] Re: Inkscape: Unable to change or select any font

Likely same issue as reported in bug #667091 (see also bug #728086). If
the font defined as 'default' font (in Inkscape's preferences) is no
longer installed on the current system (e.g. after a system update), it
is not possible with current stable Inkscape 0.48 to change the font via
dropdown menu on the text tool controls bar.

Sorry, should have been more explicit: touchscreen-as-input works fine
in current Trusty kernel (again, see #1354598).

** Summary changed:

a more recent kernel for which the screen functions both as a display
and a touch input device. No luck so far.

(Well, actually, oddly enough, that's not quite true: I installed a
recent [August 5, I think; I can check] daily live CD of Kubuntu Active,
which is i386 only, and *that* worked just fine, from a kernel/hardware

the multitouch device is not recognized as such.

Will run apport-collect. Also the udev logs attached to bug #1354598 may
  be interesting.

Once in a while, my screen will freeze, only when I use my touchpad.
This does not happen with my USB mouse.
This does not happen either when I uninstall nvidia-prime and use my intel

I can temporarily solve the issue by doing a VT switch.

In the attached Xorg.0.log, you can see "synaptics: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad:

[Bug 1354598] [NEW] No video on touchscreen -- Dell Venue Pro 11 7130

2014-08-08 Thread Steven Collins
Public bug reported:

Apologies if I shouldn't file a bug on this -- I've seen that it is
already fixed in (at least) the most recent Utopic kernel. But I can't
actually use that kernel either, due to a regression (I guess that will
be a separate report). Consider this a suggestion to backport the fix
for this to Trusty.

When booting the current Trusty kernel, there is no video on the
touchscreen. HDMI output works, and even without HDMI connected X is
running fine (as evidenced by connecting through x11vnc). And either
alternative output method shows that the touchscreen is working fine as
an INPUT device. But no picture.

Attaching two udev logs, one from booting 3.13.0-32, the other from
3.16.0-6. You can see that in the 3.16 log, quite a few more devices
under /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/INT33C3:00/ are
discovered compared to the 3.13 -- I'm assuming one of those is the
video, since that's where the touchscreen-as-input lives.
