Title:
I don't see any technical reason why an end user couldn't have both
nvidia-prime and bumblebee installed on their laptop, and be able to
choose to use one or the other at any given time (although not both at
the same time).

It seems this bug comes from debian:

I have already created a bug report with Ubuntu that is linked to this
one. That is where I first created a bug report, and was then directed
to make one here. While it does sound like the same bug, I don't have
any strange characters in my xfce4-desktop.xml.

Ack, having primus-libs depend/recommend on libgl1-mesa-glx would cover
both amd64 and i386 (end result would be libgl1-mesa-glx of both archs
getting pulled in by apt-get when installing primus). Sounds fine by me.

Bugs,
That is the problem, there should be ;) I'm running basically the EXACT
xorg.conf you are.
can you not recompile xconf with the patch from my bug report? If you
know what you are doing it should take a few minutes.
below is the topic where I worked out this issue..
** Description changed:
/etc/init/systemd-logind.conf contains the following:
- # only start if PAM module is actually available, not if libpam-systemd is
- # removed but not purged
- [ -e /lib/*/security/pam_systemd.so ] || { stop; exit 0; }
+ # only start if PAM module is
it seems utopic has an evolution of this problem - the file
/usr/share/llvm-3.5/cmake/LLVMConfig.cmake exists, but references two
other files which don't (as far as my compilation went)
/usr/lib/llvm-3.5/share/llvm/cmake/LLVMExports.cmake and
/usr/lib/llvm-3.5/share/llvm/cmake/LLVM-Config.cmake
