[Bug 1095180] Re: incorrect bash-completion for sudo

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
It's a corner case of a directory in the current directory having the
same name as a command. The directory entry is superseding the command
completion.

If you sudo ettab you get a list of completions. In /etc, the only
entry for etckeeper is with a trailing /, rather than having an entry
for the command AND an entry for the directory. If you are cded to
somewhere without an etckeeper directory present, etckeeper is fine.

This happens with completion for any commands flagged to take another command
as their first argument. simple testcase:
mkdir apt-g{,et}
nice apt-gtab = lists apt-g/ apt-get/
nice apt-getab = nice apt-get/

Probably fixable without disabling completing filenames as a fallback,
IDK. _command_offset() is pretty complex, I'm prob. not going to try to
fix it myself.

[Bug 1095180] Re: incorrect bash-completion for sudo

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
The bug is in the core code of bash_completion, in the functions that
handle commands that take other commands as their arguments, e.g. sudo,
nice, and so on. Marked invalid for the etckeeper package, but still
confirmed for bash-completion. (I hope I'm doing this right. If
there's a way to un-assign it from etckeeper altogether, that would be
best).

[Bug 106975] Re: mysqldump lacks bash completion script

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
reassigning this to mysql. Packages can provide their own completion
rules and install them with dh_bash-completion. Not every tool needs to
have its completions shipped in bash-completions to be installed on
every system regardless of whether the tool is installed or not.

There's already a script that someone wrote, just toss that into the
mysql packaging, or submit it upstream.

[Bug 1397548] [NEW] add folderlist to prune folders from search [whishlist]

2014-11-29 Thread rubo77
Public bug reported:

Please add the possibility to add a list of paths that are not searched

fr example, I have a folder /var/backups/rsnapshot/ with hourly backups

Please disregard my previous comment about being broken in 14.04 -- In
fact I was running 14.10 and didn't realize it (a reboot and 14.10 being

fine, and still fully broken in 14.10.

[Bug 1397501] [NEW] No network after resuming from hibernate

2014-11-29 Thread Nick B.
Public bug reported:

After resuming from hibernate I have no network connection. This doesn't
happen with suspend, only hibernate. I'm guessing this is something with
network-manager as doing 'sudo service network-manager restart' fixes
the problem. ifconfig shows no eth0 interface but doing 'ifconfig eth0'
does return some info. It's like the interface is down or something

ifconfig
loLink encap:Local Loopback
  inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
  inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
  UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1

  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:8178151 (8.1 MB) TX bytes:8178151 (8.1 MB)

ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
  BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:2442293 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:2655252 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:738089439 (738.0 MB) TX bytes:1082156746 (1.0 GB)

1. Hibernate system (must manually enable hibernate in pm-utils)
2. Resume from hibernate.

Expected result:
Network connection is restored

Actual result:
No network connection. network-manager icon in system tray has a red X on it.
Doing 'sudo service network-manager restart' brings the network back.

[Bug 1087996] Re: Completion of cp command adds space instead of slash to directories

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
I've never seen this, and it doesn't currently happen on Ubuntu 14.04. If you
can still reproduce this, give us a testcase.
e.g.
 mkdir -p foo/bar
 touch foo/bar/baz
 cp foo/btab

or something.

But probably you have something bad in your ~/.bash_completion, or
/etc/bash_completion.d, or something, that's breaking programmable
completion for other stuff.

[Bug 1095180] Re: incorrect bash-completion for sudo

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
It's a corner case of a directory in the current directory having the
same name as a command. The directory entry is superseding the command
completion.

If you sudo ettab you get a list of completions. In /etc, the only
entry for etckeeper is with a trailing /, rather than having an entry
for the command AND an entry for the directory. If you are cded to
somewhere without an etckeeper directory present, etckeeper is fine.

This happens with completion for any commands flagged to take another command
as their first argument. simple testcase:
mkdir apt-g{,et}
nice apt-gtab = lists apt-g/ apt-get/
nice apt-getab = nice apt-get/

Probably fixable without disabling completing filenames as a fallback,
IDK. _command_offset() is pretty complex, I'm prob. not going to try to
fix it myself.

[Bug 1095180] Re: incorrect bash-completion for sudo

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
The bug is in the core code of bash_completion, in the functions that
handle commands that take other commands as their arguments, e.g. sudo,
nice, and so on. Marked invalid for the etckeeper package, but still
confirmed for bash-completion. (I hope I'm doing this right. If
there's a way to un-assign it from etckeeper altogether, that would be
best).

[Bug 1395210] Re: startup and shutdown plus scanner

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
David Bunn, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This
report will only be scoped to the first issue of three you mentioned:
1) You have to chose from the start menu Start with Advanced mem, then with
Ubuntu it will then start.

However, unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Regarding the other two issues, please file a new report, one per issue:
2) Also cannot chose weather it has a code to launch or not, I want it to
launch automatically.
3) Also how do you set up a scanner I have allready set up wirelessly and it
works well. I have a Cannon Pixma MG 3150.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1395070] Re: gstreamer-vaapi + nvidia driver causes firefox to crash on animated gifs / video tags

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Joe Barnett, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1394997] Re: Intel graphics corruption since upgrade to Ubuntu 14.10

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Daniel Drake, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=engFamilyId=36ProductID=3782ProdId=3782
an update to your BIOS is available (0041). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1397506] [NEW] Libvirt errors with nested backeds QCOW2 images

2014-11-29 Thread Javier Sánchez
Public bug reported:

This is due by an error with Apparmor profile created for the new
machine. Simple get a working qcow2 image like:

- Windows7-Base.img

Do a new qcow2 image using this as backing:

- qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b Windows7-Base.qcow2 Windows7-Updated.qcow2

Now just do some things on it like running updates and then do a new
image like:

- qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b Windows7-Updated.qcow2 Final.qcow2

Now try to run a MV using Final.qcow2 and you will get an error:

- backing file: Could not open
'/var/lib/libvirt/images/Windows7-Base.img': Permission denied

The problem is the Apparmor profile inside /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/ ,
it's missing a read entry for
'/var/lib/libvirt/images/Windows7-Base.img'

HACK:
Just add to a new device with Windows7-Base.img as read-only and libvirt
will generate properly apparmor access to it.

[Bug 403717] Re: tab-completion for kill builtin slightly lacking.

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
I don't think numerical sorting is possible. _kill() is getting its list of
pids from
ps axo pid=
which returns a numerically sorted list, but I guess bash is lexicographically
sorting completions like it always does.

It would be possible to add completion for %jobnum, but would you
really use that? It could only return a list of job numbers, not what
commands they were. Given that job numbers tend to be very small and
nearby, if you don't know what job you want to kill, a list of the
numbers is unlikely to save you running a quick jobs command.

Or do some people keep running a chain of background jobs so their job
numbers climb so high that you want to complete the initial 100 in front
of job 1005?

[Bug 1394835] Re: Text display is as wormholes

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
TAKAHASHI Hidetsugu, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
BIOS is available (1.19).

[Bug 1369684] Re: Elantech touchpad locks cursor when touching with 2 or more fingers

2014-11-29 Thread Koen Roggemans
Thanks a lot for this! I don't have a device with me to test, so I'll test it
next week. I did a diff with the current elantech file for 3.13 and there are
so many differences. It's for me not possible to tell which one solves the
problem. I think it is based on an older version of the file.
I took the liberty to include Hans de Goede in this bug. He did all 2014
changes to the elantech driver in Ubuntu this year - I hope you don't mind Hans.

[Bug 1134535] Re: dlocate filename commpletition

2014-11-29 Thread Peter Cordes
/etc/bash_completion.d/dlocate-completion is in dlocate, not
bash_completion.

Also, dlocate should use dh_bash-completion when building itself, so
the completions will go in the new spot: /usr/share/bash-
completion/completions

/usr/share/doc/bash-completion/README.Debian

Anyway, back to this bug. yeah, might not be a bad idea to have the default
completion be _filedir, rather than options. It currently only completes paths
as arguments to -S.

Also, the completions shouldn't list both -V and --version. Only list
the long-option. rationale in /usr/share/doc/bash-completion/README.gz
near the end.

scsi: handle flush errors properly

commit 89fb4cd1f717a871ef79fa7debbe840e3225cd54 upstream.

Flush commands don't transfer data and thus need to be special cased
in the I/O completion handler so that we can propagate errors to
the block layer and filesystem.

[Bug 1394401] Re: Upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04 failed

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Georg Pfeifer, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Lucid Desktop
reached EOL on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases .

If an upgrade would be possible for you, you will need to uninstall any
PPAs and proprietary software packages (ex. nvidia), as well as remove
the sources for any PPAs, prior to attempting an upgrade. If this
doesn't work, you will want to backup your data, and do a new install of
a supported release via http://releases.ubuntu.com/ .

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1394072] Re: boot issues

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
HEREMI RAEF HELLEH, thank you for taking the time to report this and
helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug
because your description didn't include enough information. You may find
it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1392016] Re: [Asus UL30VT] Backlight control does not work

2014-11-29 Thread RK
Hi,
I have now gone back and tested kernels back to 2.6.32, the kernel that was
used in Ubuntu when this laptop was released. It seems I remembered
incorrectly, backlight control has never worked properly on this laptop.

Backlight control did not work on any of the kernels I tested. I tested
the following kernels:

- 2.6.32-69-generic
- 2.6.38-02063808-generic
- 3.0.1-030001-generic
- 3.11.0-12-generic
- 3.11.0-26-generic
- 3.13.0-32-generic
- 3.13.0-34-generic
- 3.13.0-37-generic
- 3.13.0-37-generic
- 3.18.0-031800rc4-generic

It is possible that the problem is the same as for the UL-80VT:

[Bug 1393905] Re: Graphic driver crash on youtube

2014-11-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
QkiZ, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top
line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.18-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1393866] Re: Xorg freeze

Nicholas, as per
http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNFW351JHtemplate_id=1region_id=1tab=download#/downloadTab
an update to your BIOS is available (R2060Y0).

[Bug 1170647] Re: After minimizing an external media, clicking on the Files icon on the Launcher doesn't restore the minimized window, but opens a new one

2014-11-29 Thread Bruno Nova
The problem here is that the Ubuntu developers decided that when you
click the file manager icon, your home folder should open. So, when the
trash (or a device) is open, clicking the file manager icon opens a new
window with the home folder. Even Mark Shuttleworth said that's the
intended behavior:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/769515/comments/3

This traded one usability problem by another!
When only the trash in open, for example, the file manager icon is also
highlighted, and Unity indicates with two arrows that the file manager is open
and focused. Also, the windows is minimized/restored to/from that icon.
If this behavior is to be kept, these issues should be fixed because they are
very misleading.

Or just revert the behavior!
If you put the cursor over the file manager icon, the tooltip says Files, not
Home Folder. So, why would the user expect that this icon is used only to
open the home folder?

My vote goes to reverting this behavior (someone provided a patch already).
Just my humble opinion.
