[Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating resolv.conf
I'd like to point out that the description of the bug is inaccurate. When networkmanager uses dnsmasq, resolv.conf should not be updated when new dns servers must be used. Instead, networkmanager needs to update dnsmasq's configuration. And it does not do that, which is a problem. Proper description should be: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system dns addresses I can confirm that the problem exists on 14.10. ** Summary changed: - network manager openvpn dns push data not updating resolv.conf + network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openvpn in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120 Title: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/120/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1257186] Re: memory leakage messages (no talloc stackframe)
I installed the 14.04.1 LTS for my server. Samba was not selected during the installation. I Installed it manually without a problem. The problem occured immediately after installing the libpam-smbpass. My Samba version is 4.1.6-Ubuntu This issue seems to be resolved by the samba team already in July (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8449). It says it has been fixed in 4.1 but the fix is not in 4.1 for Ubuntu ? Having a fix in 14.10 is not a resolution. 14.04 is a LTS for (production) servers and must receive the fix through normal package upgrades. Is this bug really not assigned in the Ubuntu team ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1257186 Title: memory leakage messages (no talloc stackframe) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/samba/+bug/1257186/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1398533] Re: [HP Stream Notebook - 11-d010nr] clickpad malfunctions after performing a click in Lubuntu 14.10
Okay, I have never had to install an upstream kernel before so I hope I am using the right kernel here. When I enter the terminal command: uname -r my kernel version information reads: 3.18.0-031800rc7-generic Please tell me if this is wrong and I will try to figure out where I went wrong. Some good news. Clickpad behavior is better, I daresay even useable, but still has problems. What works: Touchpad movement is still operational. But now I can also perform touchpad-based simulated clicks now. Single-tapping on the touchpad gives me a simulated left-click. Tap-and-hold allows me to click and drag. Double-touch simulates right-click. Nothing gets stuck or acts quirky when I use the simulated clicks. What fails: The hardware clickpad buttons still do not work and still cause the click location to get stuck until an enable-disable cycle is run on the touchpad (xinput disable/enable id). I am going to tag this as bug-exists due to the clickpad button issue. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help test this issue. ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists- upstream-3.18-rc7 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1398533 Title: [HP Stream Notebook - 11-d010nr] clickpad malfunctions after performing a click in Lubuntu 14.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1398533/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

While the icon is still there, attempting to launch a fresh copy of Software Updater from the - Dash will not work, as there an instance of update-manager already + Dash will not work, as there is an instance of update-manager already running (it's actually sleeping). It is only when I manually quit the update-manager (right clicking on the icon and then click Quit will do) that I can relaunch Software Updater. Curiously, after relaunching Software Updater in this case, it will forget about its previous window size, and default to the tiny version instead. This problem happens every time for me, so I'm not sure of the exact - circumstances under which it's replicable. + circumstances under which it's replicable. [Bug 1321958] Re: resize2fs does not start to actually grow an ext4
I have just tried this patch (to resize2fs.c. There is another patch for resize.c, but I dont have a resize.c in the 1.42.11 src tree), but it didn't work out the way I'd like. It seems to went all okay: /dev/sdb 29T 26T 2.1T 93% /backups root@dione:/usr/local/e2fsprogs/sbin# umount /backups/ root@dione:/usr/local/e2fsprogs/sbin# ./resize2fs -fp /dev/sdb resize2fs 1.42.11 (09-Jul-2014) Resizing the filesystem on /dev/sdb to 8775931648 (4k) blocks. Re: [Bug 1354668] Re: Fix for suspend/hibernate with DVB-t USB stick
May I suggest to update your bug reporting etiquette to not require bios updates if the motherboard manufactuerer does not provide a reliable way to update the bios from within Ubuntu whilst the motherboard is working stable? I bricked my MSI motherboard yesterday by installing BIOS version 4.3 using FreeDOS. The update went great but now my motherboard is in an infinite boot loop. After about 7 secs the motherboard resets. See also Google for a lot of people facing the same with this unstable MSI motherboard with unfriendly Linux support and a buggy BIOS update procedure. MSI is a bad choice for Linux / Ubuntu. (yes there is some intended SEO in this report) So, this bug report costs me at least 50EUR and a lot of time :-( I will test again when I have a new motherboard installed and time for testing. Obviously, I will refrain from doing a BIOS update if requested here... Any suggestions for which motherboard to buy? I need USB3, ethernet, 3 SATA-600 ports and 5.1 or higher onboard sound. I prefer no separate onboard RAID controller as this slows down booting and Linux software RAID is easier/much more reliable. Linux stability is very important, especially as this computer is put to sleep often. Are Asrock and Gigabyte Linux-friendly brands? Which Intel chipset will be the most reliable: B75, P75, H77? What Realtek chips will give the most reliable and best sound experience in Ubuntu: ALC662, ALC887 or ALC892? Thanks for the support! -- Mvg, Sander Devrieze. 2014-12-05 22:38 GMT+01:00 Christopher M. Penalver christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com: sander, as per http://www.msi.com/support/mb/P67AGD65.html#down-bios an update to your BIOS is available (4.3). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. [Bug 1396232] Re: Desktop freezes when Do starts if quiet mode is not enabled
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + The desktop appears to freeze when Do starts if quiet mode is not + enabled in the preferences. This is due to Do deadlocking while holding + an X11 grab. + + [Test Case] + + *) Install Do + *) Start Do. + *) Your desktop will appear to freeze. Switch to a VT and kill gnome-do in order to regain control of your session. + + (If not a clean install, ensure “Hide window on first launch (quiet + mode)” is *not* checked). + + [Regression Potential] + The fix completely removes the use of GDK threading. As Do already delegates all GTK calls to the main thread this should be safe. I was going to fix LP: #1344386 by removing the threading initialisation, but thought that simply locking around Gtk.Application.Run() was a safer minimal fix. HAH! + + The worst case is that Do crashes rather than freezing the desktop, + which is pretty much still a win. + + Original (extremely detalied!) report: + gnome-do and Xorg/unity/desktop seem to be incompatible on a fresh install of either utopic or vivid. This is either tied to 1080p (1920x1080) or a fresh install of either version. Details as I know them are provided here. I have a brand new machine which is running 1080p to an HDMI monitor. I installed Ubuntu 15.04 fresh from a usb install (usb-creator run from an existing, working vivid machine). As with all new machines, I go through my new install check list: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BarryWarsaw These are slightly out of order, and this problem crops up after doing all the apt-get installs, apt-get update, and apt-get dist-upgrade. After all that, a reboot, and a re-login, the desktop is corrupt and unusable. I see the top menu bar extend from the right but only about 1/8th of the way to the left (the rest is desktop background), the dash only displayes on the lower left about 1/3 of the way up (again, desktop background the rest of the way), and neither the mouse nor the keyboard work at all. I must ssh in to reboot (or hard reboot of course). The system is still operational as the ssh shell works perfectly. The desktop is simply corrupt visually and unresponsive. The login screen after boot seems completely functional though. Mouse works fine as does the keyboard (or I wouldn't be able to log in!). Some additional data points make this even more interesting. On a different disk on this very same machine, I installed OS X 10.10.1, and VMware Fusion 7.0.1. Inside Fusion, I installed Vivid from daily live build iso of yesterday (11/24/14), and went through the same steps. I get exactly the same corruption and desktop freeze. I took a snapshot of the disk and then installed Utopic fresh from an iso downloaded via the normal www.ubuntu.com download site. In Utopic, I took a disk snapshot, and then I again went through the same apt-get steps and the desktop is again corrupt and frozen. This leads me to believe that one of the packages in my new machine buildout are to blame. I should also mention that in Vivid, I installed vmware-tools but in Utopic I did not. No difference (except that with vmware-tools I can set the display to 1920x1080, i.e. the full physical screen, while without vmware-tools, I cannot get full screen resolution from System Settings - Displays). Oh, I tried booting each of the previous kernels, with no effect. So now, I went back to the Utopic snapshot I took right after installing from iso and confirmed that everything works perfectly fine. Desktop is not corrupt and keyboard/mouse are responsive. Through the process of elimination, I would take a disk snapshot, install a few packages, test login, rinse and repeat. I was able to narrow it down to gnome-do and its dependencies. Specifically, after installing gnome-do and its dependencies, the desktop was broken as described above. Reverting to the disk snapshot pre-install of gnome-do, confirms that everything works fine. So now, I installed gnome-do and its dependencies, witnessed the corruption and freeze, and then ssh'd in and then did `apt-get purge gnome-do apt- get autoremove`. gnome-do and its dependencies were removed, I rebooted, logged in and everything was fine again. I went back to the Vivid disk snapshot, purged gnome-do and autoremoved, and *its* desktop was fixed. Clearly the problem is related to gnome-do in both Utopic and Vivid and/or one of its dependencies. After submitting this bug I will reboot back into Vivid running natively on the hardware, ssh in, purge gnome-do and its dependencies and see what happens. I suspect the desktop will be fixed again. As if this is not interesting enough, I have two other desktops currently running Vivid, and both have gnome-do installed, *and* both work perfectly well! The big difference here is that both of them have been dist-upgraded to Vivid through existing

I just upgraded my hypervisor to Ubuntu 14.04 in an attempt to resolve this issue as Simon experienced. However under heavy I/O of 'aptitude upgrade', I've had 3 more occurences of this with hours of upgrading the host to 14.04. So it appears not to be related to the hypervisor. This leads me down the path that most of the affected systems have been upgraded from 10.04 - 12.04 - 14.04. Which would point to something in the upgrade path affecting this. As Simon re-installed all of his systems and didn't have the issue anymore. I could try random kernels on machines, but some information from a kernel developer on how to debug this would be very useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1298972 Title: stacktrace in ext4: /build/buildd/linux-3.13.0/fs/ext4/ext4_jbd2.c:259 __ext4_handle_dirty_metadata+0x1a2/0x1c0() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1298972/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1321958] Re: resize2fs does not start to actually grow an ext4
I ran e2fsck on this disk, and it found quite alot of problems with early inodes. After e2fsck completed almost all the root folders were moved to lost+found. I managed to restore the data by moving them back from lost+found. I'd like to note that although I ran resize2fs with the -f flag, I did ran e2fsck prior to resizing the disk. However, resize2fs kept bugging me that I needed to run e2fsck. [Bug 1007866] Re: System mode: SHM avaliblity.
Cool. I think the safe way to do it is much more complicated than just turning on the existing SHM vector. From what I understand it should work like so... Client connect to stream or dgram socket and (post auth) establishes that both parties believe they are on he same host and server offers to create SHM buffers for the client to use. The client may close the socket once SHM is setup, if it's done. Server should be able to query the socket, worst case using ident, to see what user is on the other end and set perms appropriately. The server might trust the client to supply perms and does so while applying a mask for sanity purposes. SHM buffers are per socket connection/pid and a single pid can ask for more than one, with some upper limit defined to prevent DOS. This adds more commands into the PA server and client, but I feel that both modes would benefit from a more robust SHM system. Having more than a single thread(client/server threads makes for a minimum of two) introduces locking concerns that just add latency. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007866 Title: System mode: SHM avaliblity. [Bug 1362584] Re: [HP 255 G1 Notebook PC] Synaptics Touchpad not Working after upgrade from 12.04.1 LTS to 14.04.1 LTS
Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), the touchpad only works when the system is booted directly from the live dvds I have tried. These are 12.04.0 and 14.04.1. It doesn't work on any kernel when booted from the hard drive. Just to reiterate, the touchpad did work when purchased earlier this year. It came preinstalled with 12.04.1 LTS and the latest kernel it was working on was 3.5.0-54. The touchpad will not work now when booted from 3.5.0-54. Hence my comment on update #22 that it seemed more like an upgrade/ configuration issue. I started off on this route months ago and the best advice seemed to be to rebuild the system from scratch. I followed all the advice about raising bugs and how to determine what category it should be and all this led me to believe that it was a kernel issue. There seems to be a lot more information available now regarding touchpad issues in general and it was this that led me to the comments on #23 and #24. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1400050/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1136110] Re: USB Audio Codec choppy playback
To keep this brief - I'm an idiot. It's all my own fault. Sorry for wasting people's time reading my scribbles. Now the longer version. I did some extensive tests, playing local music via VLC - OK. Remote server music via VLC and foobar (under wine) - Not OK. Internet music (Firefox, BBC radio streams) - Not OK. Ethernet vs Wi-Fi - no difference. I then looked at my notes for any modifications I might have made in the past, and there it was. I had changed the default pulse-audio bit rate in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf to suit another application using a different output device. My memory being what it is (age...) I had totally forgotten. Reverting to standard fixed the problem. I don't really understand why local music under VLC was OK and other's not, but no matter. The problem has gone away. Also in this case, it helps to use sdbc_hsqldb.jar from http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/Linux- x86_64_11-Release_Configuration/master/2012-05-23_15.09.58/ Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1057480/comments/5 On 2012-06-06T07:50:54+00:00 Pmladek-y wrote: The other difference is that Class-Path: hsqldb.jar .. is missing in MANIFEST.MF. Also this looks related to gbuildification. [Bug 1388279] Re: suspend hangs when unloading module
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: a few user report problems after upgrading to 14.10. After resume or supend the touchpad is dead. un-reloading hid_multitouch solves the issue. however putting the module name into 00sleep_modules prevents sleep mode (computer hangs) (making a typing error like hid_modu and it works again) Unfortunately I have no clue how to get more detailed information ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: pm-utils 1.4.1-15 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-24.32-generic 3.16.4 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-24-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Fri Oct 31 23:32:13 2014 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: pm-utils UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + --- + ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: jott 3850 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/seq:timidity 2549 F timidity + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=c79bd9d4-ded9-43e5-a7e9-d20c0306f05d + Lsusb: + Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub + Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04f2:b469 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd + Bus 001 Device 007: ID 04ca:300b Lite-On Technology Corp. + Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc.
