[Bug 1402657] [NEW] etckeeper doesn't commit. Missing executable permissions on /etc/etckeeper/commit.d/50vcs-commit

2014-12-15 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu (hjmf)
Public bug reported:

Etckeeper doesn't work out of the box on Ubuntu 14.10

The command etckeeper commit fails without any output.

The problem is that the script 50vcs-commit doesn't have execution
permissions.

Noticed in etckeeper at ubuntu 14.10

root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10
root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# apt-cache policy etckeeper
etckeeper:
  Installed: 1.11ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.11ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.11ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The root cause is that 50vcs-commit never gets executed because it lacks
permissions:

root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# ls -la /etc/etckeeper/commit.d/
total 40
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 15 13:55 .
drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 4096 Dec 15 13:55 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 447 Jun 4 2014 10vcs-test
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 138 Jun 4 2014 30bzr-add
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 302 Jun 4 2014 30darcs-add
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 138 Jun 4 2014 30git-add
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 143 Jun 4 2014 30hg-addremove
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2822 Jun 4 2014 50vcs-commit
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 264 Jun 4 2014 99push
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 193 Jun 4 2014 README

To reproduce the problem:

Install etckeeper on Ubuntu 14.04. Nothing gets commited.

root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# etckeeper init
Creado un standalone tree (formaot: 2a)
adding .bzrignore
adding .etckeeper
adding .java
adding ConsoleKit
adding ImageMagick
adding Muttrc
[...]

root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# etckeeper vcs status
unknown:
  .bzrignore
  .etckeeper
  .java/
  ConsoleKit/
  ImageMagick/
  Muttrc
  [...]

root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# etckeeper commit initial revision
root@ulises2:/etc/etckeeper# etckeeper vcs status
added:
  .bzrignore
  .etckeeper
  .java/
  .java/.systemPrefs/
  .java/.systemPrefs/.system.lock
  .java/.systemPrefs/.systemRootModFile
  [...]

To fix the problem

Give exectuable permissions to  /etc/etckeeper/commit.d/50vcs-commit::

chmod +x /etc/etckeeper/commit.d/50vcs-commit
etckeeper commit initial revision
etckeeper vcs log

[Bug 1380084] Re: SSH client requires SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0 will not work without it, can't use key auth without SSH_AUTH_SOCK=0

2014-12-15 Thread reetp
Although the fix above works for ssh I cannot connect with filezilla and
get the following error:

Pageant failed to answer challenge

So I removed SSL_AUTH_SOCK from .bashrc and could then connect again
with filezilla, but not ssh.

After a look around I can connect with ssh using the following format :

ssh -o PubkeyAuthentication=no user@host.domain

This also works for scp. However, it is a pain in the butt.

If you use keys it circumvents the issue. However, not every machine I
connect to and from has keys.

As per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1380084/comments/12
I am surprised that this does not affect more people

[Bug 1352570] Re: ovs-vswitchd crashed with SIGSEGV in nl_attr_get_size()

2014-12-15 Thread sridhar basam
I am the person who sent the email above on crashes on the 2.0.2 branch. To add
some context to the frequency of crashes on 2.0.2, we saw the crashes on 2.0.2
happen a couple times so far compared to 100s of crashes over the past month on
the 2.0.1 code. I will update this bug report and the ovs mailing list if
things change with the frequency.

If there is any additional information i can provide, let me know.
Thanks.

[Bug 1402763] [NEW] Multicast traffic not propating correctly over linux bridge

2014-12-15 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

There's a lot of supposition in the title of this bug but its currently
my best guess.

In this deployment, I have a number of services running in LXC
containers across multiple physical hosts; each service is clustered
across three units, all on separate physical hosts, using corosync and
pacemaker; when using multicast to support cluster communication, I
occasionally see a container drop out of the cluster and use its
isolation response (to shutdown all managed services); when using
unicast I've not yet see this same problem.

LXC containers are bridged to the main physical network using a linux
bridge:

  eth0 - juju-br0 - vethXXX - | vethXXX |

All MTU's are standard (1500).

[Bug 1025244] Re: qcow2 image increasing disk size above the virtual limit

2014-12-15 Thread Mario
@michael, so you do that once, after some time the machine keeps
growing, and growing and growing... and you have to redo that every so
often... I have a machine that should be taking up 30 gb yet is taking
600+ GB with 4 snapshots... but yeah... I'll just plug in another 1tb
hard drive so that i can free up the space only for it to happen again
in a near future... Seems a great workaround!

Re: [Bug 1025244] Re: qcow2 image increasing disk size above the virtual limit

2014-12-15 Thread Serge Hallyn
For the record, the workaround is deleting old snapshots in shutdown mode
as per comment #14.

Upstream has moved toward external snapshots as the way forward, so while
I don't argue that this is a bug, it seems unlikely to receive a fix from
upstream.

[Bug 1386144] Re: juju-core 1.20.11 is not packaged in Ubuntu

2014-12-15 Thread Curtis Hovey
juju-quickstart 1.3.1 + juju-core 1.20.11 in trusty cannot connect to
the bootstraped start-server to deploy services.

18:40:09 WARNING app@connect:300 Retrying: unable to connect to the

I have verified that if I upgrade juju-quickstart to 1.5.0+bzr106 from the
stable ppa, I could deploy.
I will try other combinations of juju and quickstart to verify the issue is not
a user error.
I do not think juju-core 1.20.11 can go into trusty updates

** Description changed:

juju-core 1.20.11 is proposed for release upstream.

We're now in a position to have this enter trusty-proposed and vivid-
proposed, but it should not land in trusty-updates or vivid until
upstream passes QA on our proposed binaries, published 1.20.11 tools in
their stable simplestream and announces the release for general
  production use.

  [SRU Information]

juju-core has a stable release exception in
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/MicroReleaseExceptions,
  including for major version updates.

  [Development Fix]

Full backport of new upstream release. racb will remove the block-
proposed tag when verification has passed, and then this update should
  migrate to vivid.

  [Stable Fix]

Full backport of new upstream release.

  [QA Status]

Since there are multiple verifications required, they are listed here as
a work item whiteboard status type thing rather than try and track them
in a single tag. Please do not mark verification-done or remove block-
proposed until all following items have passed. If any of these items
fail, this bug should be marked verification-failed immediately.

[Bug 1386144] Re: juju-core 1.20.11 is not packaged in Ubuntu

2014-12-15 Thread Curtis Hovey

[sinzui] Upsteam QA test against Vivid: DONE
[sinzui] Upstream QA test against Trusty: DONE
[sinzui] Upstream release process complete: DONE

  Manual tests required:

- [racb] Test juju-quickstart against vivid-proposed: TODO
+ [sinzui] Test juju-quickstart against vivid-proposed: DONE
[sinzui] Test juju-quickstart against trusty-proposed: Failed (see comment 11)

The following stakeholders have expressed an interest in performing
their own tests and we will wait for a (timely) acknowledgement from
them before removing the -proposed blocks. If you also have an interest
in testing new Juju releases before they land in an SRU, then please
  comment in this bug.

  Landscape team QA: DONE

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Zaphod, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
with the latest version of remmina in Precise, or a later version of
Ubuntu?

If so, please execute the following via a terminal as it will gather necessary
debugging information:

[Bug 1401777] Re: Cannot delete a chroot in ubuntu SDK

2014-12-15 Thread Zoltan Balogh
In order to track down this case I would need to know what stage the
click chroot creation was terminated. What the click chroot list
contained?

It seems that the architecture or the framework information is not
available from the UI and so the click and the script fails.

[Bug 988843] Re: remmina/rdp window turns blue or crashes gnome-shell

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bastien Durel, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-12-15 Thread jonmillard
Just bought a BT soundbase base (Target brand, generic). Am running
Ubuntu 14.04, and can confirm these issues for my part as well. Also
can confirm that entering the comment pactl load-module module-
bluetooth-discover fixes the problem for me, albeit not necessarily
permanently. I have been mucking around with both the default bluetooth
manager and blueman, so no idea if blueman did something else that
helped.

[Bug 992060] Re: remmina crashed with SIGABRT in __malloc_assert()

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Daniel Richard G., thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Oneiric reached
EOL on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If this reproducible in a supported release, please follow these instructions
to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

It appears that sometimes, nvidia is losing the *display* information.

(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode NULL

I can recover my display by running

xrandr --auto

Note: this may not work when you are logged into the console - you may
want to use something like sleep 3; xrandr --auto and then switch via
Ctrl+Alt+F7 within three seconds. I usually login from a remote machine.

It happens about once a month for me. :-(

To be honest, I do not remember if the problem arose also with the 12.04

[Bug 1002435] Re: Remmina crashes when trying to connect to a users rdp session in w28k

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alexander Marx, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1289961] Re: 8086:08b2 [Lenovo ThinkPad T440s] Power management causes Intel wifi 7260 slowness

2014-12-15 Thread Francois Thirioux
OK, I got it.

It seems to me that the -8 version has uAPSD disabled. I don't know how to
check that.
In
/sys/module/iwlwifi/parameters
the uapsd_disable is set to N
but as far I can remember uAPSD was disabled when using -8 version because -8
driver was buggy. Is it a kernel stuff to disable it ?

When I use the -9 (e.g. latest 25.228.9.0) version, the download speed is very
poor.
Ok, I tried to pass
uapsd_disable=Y
in
/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
but it does not change the loaded parameter
/sys/module/iwlwifi/parameters/uapsd_disable
which is still set to N ,
so I think this parameter is forced by Ubuntu's kernel (that's really out of my
knowledge abilities...).

SO the workaround which can lead to a fix for this bug, waiting for 15.04 :
- run Ubuntu 14.10 with -9 firmware (the default one) ;
- remove iwlwifi/iwlmvm modules ;
- reload (via modprobe) iwlwifi module with uapsd_disable=Y option ;
- the download speed is max !

I read that uAPSD was enabled in -9 firmware because bugs have been
busted. Maybe some of them survived ?

[Bug 1004115] Re: remmina, Ctrl-C, Ctr-V, Ctrl-Z yield c, v and z respectively instead of their mapped functions.

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Justin Solms, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
with the latest version of remmina in Precise, or a later version of
Ubuntu, and a supported version of Windows?

If so, please execute the following via a terminal as it will gather necessary
debugging information:
apport-collect 1004115

As well, please provide click-for-click steps to reproduce this problem,
as well as the OS you were trying to remote into.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1402551] [NEW] High memory usage of Xorg and kwin after Xorg security updates [nvidia]

2014-12-15 Thread Bernhard
Public bug reported:

Hello,

since the Xorg/nvidia security updates last week, I encounter a problem with
growing Xorg and kwin memory usage.
In one hour the memory consumption is at Xorg ~ 270 MiB and at kwin: 300 MB ,
so the system responds slowly and scrolling is very slow in in dolphin, kwrite,
firefox, etc.
After several hours the system is so slow, that only a restart helps, and then
the growing of memory starts again.

*** My Tests;

I tried several nvidia drivers, but without success (from:
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-
edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+index?field.series_filter=precise)

304.125-0ubuntu0.0.1~xedgers12.04.1
331.113-0ubuntu0.0.1~xedgers12.04.1
346.22-0ubuntu1~xedgers12.04.1
(With purging each nvidia driver and fresh installing it)

*** My configuration;

Two Kubuntu 12.04.5 PCs with a nvidia card;
nvidia driver 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.0.3 and 304.125-0ubuntu0.0.0.1
One pc with the Trusty Xstack (HWE) with Trusty kernel (3.13.0-43.72~precise1)
and the other one with the stock kernel (3.2.0-74-generic #109) and stock
xstack.

I use one pc in my office, so it disturbs my work because of the slowness and
restarts.

Thank you for your help!

Best regards, Bernhard

[Bug 1402172] Re: kernel 3.16.0-28-generic breaks Radeon HD 6310

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Maarten Fonville, forum posts are largely unhelpful. As well, I have a
radeon card and I don't have the problems mentioned here.

Despite this, I booted into the x64 (not 32-bit) daily live environment,
immediately ran apport-collect against one of my bug reports, the
terminal output responded asking me to install python-apport, which I
did, ran it again and Firefox came up for a login to Launchpad. So, I'm
failing to understand what you are getting stuck on.

[Bug 1319146] Re: new installation of 14.04LTS, no panel or launcher

Probably there is something wrong in the configurations files in your

than switch to a tty (alt+ctlr+1), login in, run the command unity

[Bug 1315221] Re: 8086:08b1 (rev 6b) [Dell XPS 13 9333] iwlwifi regularly loses connection/becomes unusable on Intel 7260

2014-12-15 Thread Shih-Yuan Lee
@gianluca,

If you are using the Linux kernel from Ubuntu 14.04, such as
3.13.0-{39,40,43}-generic, those DKMS packages should not affect your system.
You can remove them by `sudo apt-get purge oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-quantal
oem-wireless-bluetooth-intel-7260` if you think they are redundant.
`uname -r` can check the kernel version.

BTW, `ubuntu-drivers devices` may also provide the helpful information.

[Bug 1008835] Re: remmina crash when is connecting to rdp server

2014-12-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
tuxkillbill, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.
