[Bug 1410573] Re: Expert mode installation fails with error

2015-01-26 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Here's the installer screens confirming patch [1] (in comment #10) fixes
the issue on ppc64el:

Running Vivid installer, with priority=low.
Go through Partition Disks - Guided - use entire disk - (select disk) -
Separate /home, /usr, /var, and /tmp partitions

Before patch:
---

After patch:

- applied manually (nano /lib/partman/recipes-ppc64el/80multi), slight change
due to 280/300 numbers.
- / is 5.0 GB
- /usr is gone
- /home accomodated the remaining 1.3 GB (previously 6.0 /usr + 0.3 / = 6.3 GB,

[Bug 1410573] Re: Expert mode installation fails with error

2015-01-26 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Canonical / Brian @brian-murray,

This bug is fixed with these 2 upstream commits in d-i partman-auto:
 - [1] ppc64el-only: Combine / and /usr partitions in ppc64el 'multi' recipe
 - [2] other archs: Combine / and /usr partitions in 'multi' recipes

I confirm [1] fixes the issue for us (ppc64el).

For Vivid, can the patches incorporated, or the overall package be upgraded to
sid's version?
Also affects Trusty and Utopic (same package version as Vivid [3])

It'd be nice to the LTS stream, at least.
Can the patches be incorporated / package upgraded too?

[Bug 1414619] [NEW] 1217:8221 [Dell Latitude E6430] O2 Micro Cardreader does not work on Ubuntu 14.10

2015-01-26 Thread Thomas
Public bug reported:

Related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1211197

Up until recently, SD cards used to be detected but were pretty slow.
Since a couple of days (I'm not sure if a Kernel update happened that
caused this), putting in a SD card has no effect and leads to no error
messages being displayed in dmesg.

I updated the BIOS to see if that solved the problem:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A16
08/19/2014

But the problem remained, SD cards are not detected and there is no
error message.

[Bug 1391496] Re: [Intel DQ67SW] Can not enter password to decrypt disk at boot

2015-01-26 Thread freeman
I have the same problem like @MaxSpicer.
“I have upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. My whole disk is encrypted
with luks and since the upgrade I have found I can no longer unlock my disk at
boot. The enter password screen appears, but typing does not cause any
characters to appear in the password boot”

I have kernel version 3.16.0-28-generic and 3.16.0-29-generic and I
still have the same issue. I can’t enter a password in the password
screen.

I have a temporary solution for this situation. I had to choose recovery
mode and next I can enter a password and choose option “resume a normal
boot”. But it is not a perfect solution.

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze

2015-01-26 Thread Martina
I have the same problem since one day.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.01 64bit, Kernel version 3.13.0-44-generic ,Lenovo
thinkpad laptop t440p, Nvidia GeForce 730m.

A bit of history:

After installing the system I immediately installed nvidia drivers 331, I had
to immediately update them because I had some issues with unity desktop (login
working, desktop present, but no interface, meaning no menu no unity dash).
I updated to version 340.58 and everything was working after disabling
nomodeset as a grub option. Able to switch between intel and nvidia with
prime-select command and within nvidia-settings interface. The suspension was
working good with nvidia loaded, not with intel, for some reason the login page
after the suspension wasn't able to recognize me as a user...

One day ago I did some system updates, don't know exactly which one, but
I knwo it updated to version 14.04.0. I checked the version of nvidia
drivers, they were the same 340.65.

I suspended my laptop as I always did during the last weeks and it wasn't able
to restore the system. It shows black screen, no login window, no external
monitor recognized. I am able to switch to another workspace, sun prime-select
intel, and reboot.
The I have everything working again (but the suspension..), as soon as I change
again to Nvidia, I get again the black screen, i can hear the sound of the
login page, nothing more.

[Bug 1414499] Re: Ubuntu 14.04.1 install crash and problems

2015-01-26 Thread Phillip Susi
I'm afraid this is entirely too vague to proceed. If installation
failed, then the installer automatically files a bug report and attaches
the correct log files. If the installer finished, but the system fails
to boot, we need a much better description of what is happening.

[Bug 790183]

2015-01-26 Thread anarsoul
(In reply to Diego López León from comment #62)
I can confirm this patch works fine applied on top of libfprint_0.5.1-1 from
the Debian Archives. I just _debianized_ it for ease applying at
https://gist.github.com/diega/2e1d2d7700480de0 (I though it was better
to upload there instead of taint this bug report with another file)

Diego, please test it against git master. There were some changes since
0.5.1, such as several scans during enrollment for all imaging scanners.

[Bug 1414625] [NEW] Temporarily grant additional rights to camera-app so it can read free disk space

Public bug reported:

To fix a critical bug for RTM we need camera app to be able to know how much
free disk space is available. The bug is
https://bugs.launchpad.net/barajas/+bug/1405211

To do this it uses a library (that will be part of QT 5.4 when it is
released) that reads some system files in /proc and /dev that at the
moment generate the following denials:

Hi Lorn, re your question from comment #2 (sorry it took so long, I had
to revert to some older phone image to verify that): restarting network
manager service doesn't help. Also, when the problem happens, other apps
(such as browser) work fine, so it's rather an issue with the state of
Qt network stack of particular app instance.

[Bug 1414618] Re: devel: review CONFIG_STACK_TRACER and CONFIG_FUNCTION_TRACER on armhf

2015-01-26 Thread Andy Whitcroft
It seems this was originally turned off because it did not build:

[Config] armhf-* FTBFS -- CONFIG_STACK_TRACER=n

As this now does build, lets renable it across the board.

[Bug 1414080] Re: Race condition on relation when bundling hdp-hadoop

2015-01-26 Thread Samuel Cozannet
If that's of any use, I built a deploy script that works
(https://github.com/SaMnCo/bundle-flight-delay-demo).

The only work around I found was to monitor the complete deployment of
YARN + Compute nodes before I move to installing Pig. Failure to do so
always results in a failed relationship.

It stops at the timestamp i forward it to.

I can confirm this patch works fine applied on top of libfprint_0.5.1-1

better to upload there instead of taint this bug report with another

[Bug 1403982] Re: mini.iso installer cannot load additional components

2015-01-26 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
@nio-wiklund

Hi, not sure why it didn't work for your cmdline.

If you're still interested in debugging, the option you entered is correct,
as you can see on net-retriever source code:

if db_get debian-installer/allow_unauthenticated [ $RET = true ]; then
log Not verifying Release signature: unauthenticated
mode enabled
else

(net-retriever_1.39ubuntu1.tar.xz, file net-retriever/net-retriever, line 204)

[Bug 1403982] Re: mini.iso installer cannot load additional components

2015-01-26 Thread sudodus
Well the mini.iso works now (without your work-around), but anyway it is
good to know how to add such a work-around :-)

Please describe where and how to add that command! What should be booted
and at what stage should it be entered?

What is db_get ?

Should I use some other way to get the 'minimal install' (not by
downloading and booting the mini.iso)?

[Bug 1411972] Re: systemd service blocks upgrade on desktop

2015-01-26 Thread Martin Pitt
I recommend to call dh_installinit with --no-start. This won't harm the
phone or the boot, but will prevent this failure when you try to install
the package on a machine without android. Note that on a desktop with
upstart it seems to work:

Setting up powerd (0.16+15.04.20150120-0ubuntu1) ...
powerd start/running, process 1802

but it's not running, and dmesg shows:

[ 333.993882] init: powerd main process ended, respawning
[ 334.145907] init: powerd main process (1864) killed by ABRT signal
[ 334.145922] init: powerd respawning too fast, stopped

i. e. as upstart doesn't treat this as a failure (even though startup
fails), the package install happens to work. But that's not true under
systemd.

[Bug 1243741] Re: apache2 asserts on reload - GLib-GObject-CRITICAL + g_boxed_type_register_static

2015-01-26 Thread David Favor
To remove all traces of glib in apache.

apt-get purge php5-enchant php5-rrd php5-lasso php5-mapscript
php5-imagick

All traces of glib references gone in Apache PHP modules now.

So one of these is the culprit. I'll write a watchdog for Apache that
will restart Apache when it crashes + start enabling these one at a time
to figure out which is the real problem source.

[Bug 1412553] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-01-26 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From azane...@br.ibm.com 2015-01-26 16:02 EDT---
This is a comment from Alan Modra:

COMMONPAGESIZE in the linker should match kernel page size for two reasons:
- The linker optimisation that trades disk pages for memory pages is most
effective when they match. If you're running a kernel that, say, uses 64k
pages, but your linker commonpagesize is 4k then your executables and
shared libraries will use up to 4k extra on disk but be ineffective in
saving memory pages. Only 1 in 16 binaries will save a memory page.
Conversely, if your kernel used 4k pages but commonpagesize was 16k, then
you'd waste up to 16k on disk to make only a 4k saving in memory, ie. you'd
be wasting 12k of disk to no purpose.
- The linker -z relro layout also uses commonpagesize. Some might say this
is a bug.. -z relro also increases executable size, both in memory and on
disk, in order to reduce the potential for an evil attacker to subvert a
binary, by making more of the binary read-only at startup. Like the
disk/memory tradeoff, -z relro is ineffective if commonpagesize is
*smaller* than the actual kernel page size. (The same 1 in n binaries,
where n is commonpagesize/kernelpagesize, will properly protect the last
page in the relro area.) If commonpagesize is larger than the kernel page
size then -z relro works but wastes memory.

So that's the WHY. Sorry it isn't complete as I don't know off the top of
my head what page size the Ubuntu kernels use.

Note that from the -z relro view, we have other things that need fixing in
the linker but I wouldn't recommend backporting just yet. The patches I've
committed upstream 3e2b0f31, 23283c1b, 5ad18f16, aren't too well tested and
are known to break some xlc compiled binaries.

Description: Elegant, powerful, clean dock
A full fledged dock application that makes opening common applications and
managing windows easier and quicker. Docky is fully integrated into the GNOME
Desktop and features a no non-sense approach to configuration and usage.
 It just works.
 .
Docky provides an application launcher, running application management, and
various docklets including a CPU monitor, weather report and clock. It is
similar to other docks such as AWN and cairo-dock.
 .
Applications can integrate with Docky to add extra items to their context
menus or modify their icons to display more information. This package
includes integration helpers for a number of applications, including Banshee,
 Rhythmbox, Deluge, Tomboy and Zeitgeist.
 .
Docky is derived from the GNOME Do docky interface.
