2015-02-21 Thread mandruis
Public bug reported:

When installing libfreetype6-dev:i386 on a 64-bit machine:

Unpacking libfreetype6-dev:i386 (2.5.2-2ubuntu1) ...
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/libfreetype6-dev_2.5.2-2ubuntu1_i386.deb (--unpack):

is different from other instances of package libfreetype6-dev:i386
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Moving the /usr/share/man/man1/freetype-config.1.gz out of the way
allows the package to install sucessfully. This is only a manual page
conflict, as it seems.

[Bug 1406825] Re: xscreensaver complains This version of xscreensaver is VERY OLD!

2015-02-21 Thread Charlie Whitman Jr.
Firas, you seem to be under the misimpression that you need the latest
version to avoid this warning message. That is not true at all. You only
need a version that is not quite old. The version that you get in 14.10
was not the current version of Xscreensaver (or even close to it) when
14.10 was frozen. Of course, the real problem here is that whoever
volunteers to package this for universe did not update it any time
recently. It's hard to complain about volunteer work, but the fact
remains that the age of the package unnecessarily created a problem even
for non-LTS users (for LTS users, the age of the package would be
understandable).

[Bug 1334564] Re: started booting to, (DOS), screen?

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
George Thomas, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-
support/product/dimension-4700/drivers an update to your computer's
buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A10). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change
anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Christopher, can you please post some instructions in setting up an
Ethernet bridge between the lxc container and the host? Currently I'm
unable to use networking in the unity 8 lxc containers, which is of very
limited use. I'd like to be able to install applications, etc. I only
use wireless connections on my laptop.

Thanks.

[Bug 1329741] Re: After the update for version 14.04 the PC is rare,

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Pedro Ortiz, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and it does nothing, you may be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

Please follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash
when you file this crash report so the necessary information is
provided.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1330128] Re: Enabling 'radeon.dpm=1' kernel parameter makes Xorg full crash

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ḷḷumex03, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1330128

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1327644] Re: Return from suspend mode in 14.04 LTS does not display logon screen

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael E. Slowinski, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

Just to clarify my previous post. These packages can't be installed if
you do a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04.2. If you install Ubuntu 14.04

packages and steam as well. I just did this.

These are the packages I have installed even after a dist-upgrade and
subsequent change of version to 14.04.2 in my /etc/issue

7.10, 8.04, and 8.10. All of these Ubuntu releases have reached end of
life and are no longer supported.

If the bug is still reproducible in a currently supported version of
Ubuntu, increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try
again.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] not supported

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher May-Townsend
Since I had some time I thought I'd give the latest current git kernel a
go;

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/

So its not 3.20 but its going to be, now I also added the following into
lib/firmware/ath10k/ ;

https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware

Had to rename some files so that I ended up with;

maquis196@d-deridex /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw2.1
 % ls -alh
total 672K
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 102 Feb 21 22:34 .
drwxrwxr-x 1 maquis196 maquis196 20 Feb 21 22:28 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8.0K Feb 21 22:31 board.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 193K Feb 21 22:32 firmware-2.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 231K Feb 21 22:29 firmware-3.bin
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 236K Feb 21 22:34 firmware-4.bin

but unless something I've done is wrong, the following happened when I
ran modprobe ath10k_pci;

Feb 21 22:34:28 d-deridex kernel: [ 940.205651] ath10k_pci :03:00.0:
Direct firmware load for ath10k/cal-pci-:03:00.0.bin failed with error -2
Feb 21 22:34:29 d-deridex kernel: [ 941.232006] ath10k_pci :03:00.0:
unable to write to the device
Feb 21 22:34:29 d-deridex kernel: [ 941.232008] ath10k_pci :03:00.0: could
not write otp (-110)
Feb 21 22:34:29 d-deridex kernel: [ 941.232010] ath10k_pci :03:00.0:
failed to run otp: -110
Feb 21 22:34:29 d-deridex kernel: [ 941.232011] ath10k_pci :03:00.0: could
not init core (-110)
Feb 21 22:34:29 d-deridex kernel: [ 941.232021] ath10k_pci :03:00.0: could
not probe fw (-110)

So eth10k might be implemented next kernel, doesn't mean our killer card
will work. Hopefully its just something I've done wrong!

[Bug 1333685] Re: XORG Idle Channel

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hartley Jean-Aimee, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04
/product-support/product/precision-t3500/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A17). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

[Bug 1333741] Re: Screen freeze

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jonas Olson, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1333741

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

[Bug 1331997] Re: ???? i dont no

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Daniel Gußmann, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping
to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because
your description didn't include enough information. You may find it
helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

Expecting at least the smartpad to be properly recognised with the bare
minimum multi-touch gesture: two-fingers right click, side scrolling,
two-fingers scrolling, mouse speed.

As advised by Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1304386

This is almost a duplicate as the behaviour is the same and the
hardware really close (Samsung XE700T1C-A01FR as opposed to a XE700T1C-
K01SE in bug #1304386)

xinput -list gives:

[Bug 977067] Re: package octave3.2 3.2.4-12 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127

2015-02-21 Thread Mike Miller
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I am unable to reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 by
removing and reinstalling the octave3.2 package.

I notice that you have the fglrx package installed. This package should
be providing the libGL.so.1 library that appears to be missing on your
system. Something might be missing or misconfigured on your system. If
you still see this error occurring, what is the complete output of the
following command:

  $ ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so.1

Does uninstalling and reinstalling the fglrx package fix or change
anything?

[Bug 1424123] Re: Need to update for XFS crc=1 (non-default) on-disk format change

2015-02-21 Thread Peter Cordes
This will get fixed upstream at some point for sure, so having the bug
here is probably only useful as a reminder to check that we have an
updated-enough GRUB before the next release, or next LTS release at
worst.

** Description changed:

Filing a note here in case I forget later.

It looks like GRUB (2.02-beta2-15) in 14.10 doesn't support XFS's new
on-disk metadata format that has CRCs. (rationale:
  https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/xfs-self-
  describing-metadata.txt)

mkfs.xfs -m crc=1,finobt=1 /dev/sdXY creates an XFS with the new on-
disk format. This is NOT the default, and probably won't be until
kernel support for it has been in distros for a while.

-
redhat bug with some patches from Dec 2014:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1001279

I haven't yet dug up any changelogs about those patches getting merged
  into GRUB's upstream git repo.

If there's a PPA, or an easy way to build a .deb from git master (or
some other way I can easily test git master on an Ubuntu system), I'd be
interested and willing to test this.

+ Testing confirms that xfs crc support was the issue. I made two plain
+ non-MD partitions to take that out of the equation. I formatted one
+ with XFS defaults, and the other with XFS crc. I copied my fresh ubuntu
+ install into each one. I did grub-install /dev/sda while chrooted into
+ the non-crc xfs, and grub-install /dev/sdb in the CRC one. Booting from
+ sda worked fine.

- (It's possible I'm mistaken here, and my boot problem was from using
RAID10,f2, rather than from XFS with crc=1. testing now.)
+ Booting from sdb (I can tell them apart in the bios boot menu easily,
+ because they're not the same make), I was dropped into the grub rescue
+ shell. I could use grub's ls to see data on the non-crc partition, but
+ not on the crc partition. So it's clear that GRUB doesn't understand
+ the new XFS metadata v5 format.

[Bug 1422305] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-02-21 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From ckuma...@in.ibm.com 2015-02-21 22:05 EDT---
Dave,

You are right GNU-fdisk is deprecated/not_maintained, but to my
knowledge fdisk.distrib is maintained and shipped with util-linux.

fdisk-distrib works fine as far as disk partitioning is concerned, but
it creates block device with file names as mpath23-partN, but the
expected one is mpath23pN as can be seen in the outputs of kpartx and
'fdisk.distrib -l'

Commands 'kpartx' and 'fdisk.distrib -l' reads partition as
/dev/mapper/mpath23p1
but actually file created by 'fdisk.distrib' is /dev/mapper/mpath23-part1

So referring to the output of commands kpartx and fdisk.distrib -l (which
most scripts do to get partition path list), we can see a failure while trying
to create FS on one of the partitions.
Which is obvious because fdisk.distrib created the file with different name
in directory /dev/mapper while lists it with a different name.

Let me know, if this issue makes enough sense?

Thanks.

[Bug 1329201] Re: Onboard graphics takes priority over card

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
MicWit, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1329201

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1331360] Re: Touchpad does not work correctlyafter suspend/resume

2015-02-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Eric Maeker, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Bug 1424325] [NEW] ipdb autocompletion not working with locals and modules

2015-02-21 Thread Francesco Visin
Public bug reported:

Running a script as `python -m ipdb myscript.py` or 'ipdb myscript.py`,
ipdb's tab auto completion will work with builtins, but not with locals
and modules.

Launching ipdb from within the code with `import ipdb; ipdb.set_trace()`
autocompletion works instead as expected.

To reproduce the error call a python script with -m ipdb (e.g. python -m
ipdb myscript)), import a module (e.g. import numpy as np) and try to
use autocomplete on the module (e.g. np.TAB). The expected behavior is
to see the list of properties and functions of the module. Nothing
happens instead.

[Bug 1307744] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: too few arguments to function ‘cfg80211_ibss_joined’]

2015-02-21 Thread Matt Hanyok
I see on 2014-05-13 it says:

This bug was fixed in the package bcmwl - 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu3

Why wasn't the updated package, from 9 months ago, included in 14.04.2's
install? That would have fixed the issue easily.

For anyone having this problem, rather than do code editing and
compiling and everything mentioned above, you can grab the bcmwl-kernel-
source package for Utopic (14.10) from here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/bcmwl-kernel-source

Download the amd64 or i386 version, whichever you need, and install it
(note: you will still need dkms installed on your system to install it).
I just double-clicked it and let Ubuntu Software Centre do the install.
That got my wireless interface on and working as expected.

Can we get the updated package put into the Trusty repositories, or have
the Utopic one added to the backports?

[Bug 1405607] Re: emacs freezes after Auto-saving done on large text file

2015-02-21 Thread themusicgod1
This freeze is often associated with a bunch of what you're typing being
written backwards in the current frame. I had a whole word come out
this way: nohduorp Maybe not every time, 1/4 of the time.

I've seen this happen when you *paste* something copied from within ddd
into another window of another application (ie chromium), and Ctrl
seems to be capable of triggering it.

an example event which kills XtDispatchEvent() has type 2 just as the example
given above does.

[Bug 1052449] Re: corosync hangs due to missing pacemaker shutdown scripts

2015-02-21 Thread Brendan McGrath
I got a bit confused reading through this bug and the comments so I'm
writing this in the hope it'll help future visitors.

Some of the comments are relevant to a work-around for this bug. But the
bug itself is about the missing update-rc.d command in the postinst (and
preinst) scripts of the install package.

The suggestion in the original bug report is to follow a pattern similar
to corosync where the update-rc.d is in the postinst and preinst scripts
but you still need to edit /etc/default/corosync to enable corosync to
start on boot.

The workaround in the meantime requires one to manually run update-rc.d.
When doing this - it's important that corosync starts before pacemaker
and shuts down after.

To do this, we can run:
sudo update-rc.d pacemaker defaults 99 00

I'm running 14.04.02 LTS - so:
#2 is no longer the case ('Required-Stop: corosync' is now in the
/etc/init.d/pacemaker script)
#5 won't be a problem as insserv has been disabled (by .legacy-bootordering in
/etc/init.d)

[Bug 1395098] Re: [Utopic] OpenLDAP version is outdated

2015-02-21 Thread Ryan Tandy
Rebased, sorry it took me a while to get to this.

I guess this has missed freeze for 15.04 now, but I'd still welcome
reviews in case changes are needed before getting it merged next cycle.

Packages for testing are in ppa:rtandy/lp1395098.

[Bug 1421483] Re: All keyboard input fails: IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big

2015-02-21 Thread themusicgod1
While I try to replicate without ibus(doesn't look like it's replicating
without it), really there's 3 things going on here

1) ibus process fds are being used: you could see this as an ibus issue (though
that wasn't certain until #17)
2) firefox and arora cause the creation of fds within the ibus process which
are never cleaned up : I guess you could view that as an ibus issue, but
whether it's an ibus issue or arora/firefox issue isn't clear to me
3) chromium-browser, libreoffice, empathy, easytag and gnumeric: silently
failed on ibus failure(though in some cases there was a warning warning that
something *could*) happen.

[Bug 1424298] Re: install crashed

2015-02-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 14.04 is 14.04.2. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
