[Bug 1459451] Re: freeze after suspend

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alexey, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.27). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Re: [Bug 1442926] Re: logitech Quickcam hangs login

2015-05-31 Thread rwmarch
Christopher,

BIOS now updated.

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A07
03/03/2015

No change. On boot, system hangs at the login screen. Found Logitech
Quickcam connected to external Linksys USB hub, model USBHUB04.

Moved Logitech Quickcam to onboard USB port. Login screen now normal
and operating as expected.

[Bug 1450584] Re: mono occassionally crashes since kernel 3.13.0-48 on multi-cpu vm

2015-05-31 Thread Taloth Saldono
I had a couple of users test 3.13.0-54 and 3.16.0-39 proposed.
After more than 24h they haven't experienced a crash whereas before it would
likely crash between minutes to an hour.

Please note we also now confirmed earlier suspicions that the issue
didn't only happen on VMs but also physical systems.

[Bug 1452318] Re: Faulty behavior when resuming from suspend

2015-05-31 Thread Moritz Heiber
David, I can confirm the above workaround fixes the issue for me,
however, it's hardly an alternative since rendering performance takes a
huge hit, some of my applications are hardly usable and even terminals
are lagging.

I would concur with the SNA approach, it seems to be a driver related
issue.

[Bug 1295445] Re: Cursor size is not updated on HiDPI at intermediate UI scale levels

2015-05-31 Thread Simon Casey
I also get this same issue (I have the Dell XPS 15 too, as David White
above - it's the 9530 model). UI Scaling is set to 2x and looks fine
everywhere except the cursor. Cursor is correct size in Google Chrome
however as reported above. The workaround of restarting unity works, but
is not ideal.

[Bug 1460434] [NEW] System Freeze On Low Memory

2015-05-31 Thread Gökhan
Public bug reported:

System freeze occurs when memory is almost full and there is no chance
to kill processes. Everything is unresponsive, hdd is trashing, even ssh
connection does not show any reaction. I set vm.swappiness = 1 to
minimize swapping but those lock ups are still there. I think this could
be related to disk caching. Few times I observed in iotop that several
processes use %90+ disk I/O while memory is close to its limit. I
increased vm.min_free_kbytes (default value was 65536) but not tested
yet. Current disk scheduler is set to deadline.

[Bug 1459180] Re: 3 deisplay

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Diab, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1459902] Re: graphics flickers

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Robert Mills, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/Compaq-
Presario-V6400-Notebook-PC-series/3308689/model/3456245 an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.2E). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

[Bug 1460442] [NEW] Ubuntu Mate 15.04 does not allow to set a password for login after resume from Suspend

2015-05-31 Thread ullix
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

My laptop is a DELL XPS13, which came factory pre-installed with Ubuntu
14.04, but due to various bugs I have upgraded to Ubuntu Mate 15.04.

The laptop can go into suspend, and does resume from it. However, it
always resumes without asking for a password, and the Power Management
Preferences do not offer to set a password, neither for AC nor for
battery.

This problem exists for both Window Manager, Compiz and Marco. (though
the extra problem with Marco is, that is does not even resume properly
from suspend, reported here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1454651

It seems to be an unnecessary use risk to use a laptop which can be run
by anyone by just opening (when suspended, but this is the typical use
scenario)

[Bug 1303934] Re: no error message to console when cloud-config-url fails to load

2015-05-31 Thread M.Morana
Upon further investigation, this is going to seem odd but I had two
disks per VM (for Autopilot) of differing types (for testing) and the
Deployed root disk was set to sdb, whereas sda was used for the initial
Deploingt target (new/different bug?)(note: I renamed the nodes vs.
above to avoid confusion for me but these are the same nodes as above):

Deploying:

overlayroot on / type overlayfs
(rw,lowerdir=/media/root-ro/,upperdir=/media/root-rw/overlay)

So I'm unsure if the renaming fixed it and/or the disk reconfiguration (two
identical SATA emulations) but now it works.

[Bug 1390628] Re: Mouse pointer invisible after upgrade to Ubuntu 14.10 and 15.04

2015-05-31 Thread Ferdinand Prantl
I can confirm it: upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10 - no problem. Then
14.10 to 15.04 and reboot. Mouse pointer not visible. Reboot and
moving the mouse while logging in - mouse pointer appeared and stayed.

[Bug 1453185] Re: resolvconf: updates are not enabled right after installation

2015-05-31 Thread Thomas Hood
@Martin: Ubuntu resolvconf 1.76.1ubuntu2 includes the trigger-sending
and trigger-processing section at the end of the postinst but fails to
include the debian/triggers file from Debian. Without this file the
resolvconf package doesn't register an interest in the trigger

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze

2015-05-31 Thread kirby_33
Hello everybody!

As many others users, I get a black screen when I try to switch on the nvidia
card.
I am just a user, therefore I just give my feedback.

I use nvidia-prime and the nvidia drivers coming from the ppa xorg-edgers ppa.
I use also prime-indicator for quickly switch between the nvidia (GTX880M) and
the intel card and my login manager is lightdm.

First comment, for me the black screen issue doesn't comes from the
driver but of nvidia-prime.

My first suggestion to solve the black screen. Using the the root
privilege edit the file /sbin/prime-offload and just replace the first
line #!/bin/sh by #!/bin/bash.

Now, you can use the command: prime-select nvidia (or intel) and reboot
your laptop. Normally, now you can switch between the two cards but the
quick switch of prime-indicator doesn't work.

For the next step, I don't have a real solution but just a workaround:
With the root privilege edit the files /usr/lib/primeindicator/igpuon and
/usr/lib/primeindicator/dgpuon and just before sync insert this line:
service lightdm restart

So you get this for the file igpuon:
prime-select intel
service lightdm restart
sync

And you get this for the file igpuon:
prime-select nvidia
service lightdm restart
sync

I hope that this feed-back will be helpful to other people.
++ Kirby

[Bug 1315402] Re: No easy way to use hugetlbfs with QEMU

2015-05-31 Thread Dadio
On 15.04 upstart isn't standard anymore...

Now the qemu-kvm.conf upstart script isn't run.

Shouldn't the upstart script be converted to a regular systemd script?

Right now, the hugepages functionality isn't working anymore on Ubuntu
15.04...

[Bug 1460313] Re: webcam indicator LED remains lit after resume from suspend

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hans109h, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel
3.19 to 4.1-rc5 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-05-31 Thread teo1978
@36 I observed another crash so i thought apport-collect would include
relevant information about the crash (which I'm not sure was included in
the original report because I don't remember for sure if I reported it
just after the crash or not)

I know you don't give a shit about fixing the bug in the first place,
but just in case someone else does, or if some day somebody with an
updated bios confirms the bug and it is finally taken seriously, the
logs will be there to examine.

 Bug description:
Since a recent update (around April 29th), sometimes (approximately once
a day) when I lock my computer screen (CTRL+L or using system menu) the
computer freeze for a while (2 to 30 seconds) before showing the login
 screen.
Then when I try to unlock the screen I need to enter my password twice
(with no error message after the first try).
Once logged in, all applications are closed. Uptime is still running
(since no reboot) and services too (with no interruption).

Looking at the apport.log file (see attached) it seems that when I try
to lock the screen, compiz crashes.

I've attached the compiz crash file too (_usr_bin_compiz.1000.crash)

I think I just hit this problem with MAAS 1.7.2 with a trusty virtual

[Bug 1451277] Re: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic-vivid upgrade

2015-05-31 Thread Sergio Callegari
Please disregard my previous message.

The bug is definitely there.

In some cases it does not manifest immediately. Conversely, it is quite
frequent to see the IOWAIT close to zero at system startup. Then after a
while the system is up, the IOWAIT jumps for no reason at about 50% and
stays there.

When this happens, nothing is initially reported in dmesg/syslog.
However the system starts showing some issues.

1) Trying to mount the zip drive, namely

sudo mount /dev/sda /mnt/tmp

hangs forever. The process cannot be interrupted. Interestingly, this
happens even if there is no disk in the drive, a situation that the
kernel should see immediately, even before trying the mount action.
When the hang occurs, the kernel starts complaining in dmesg about a
hung process:

[11877.606063] INFO: task mount:14652 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
[11877.606077] Tainted: P C OE 3.19.0-18-generic #18-Ubuntu

2) It is impossible to cleanly shutdown the machine. The shutdown
operation hungs and the machine needs to be reset or switched off

3) It is impossible to install a kernel, since something hangs in the
process at the update-initramfs stage.

Point 3) makes it nasty to test new kernels for the issue.

[Bug 1460481] [NEW] Software Updater Installs Unselected Packages

2015-05-31 Thread Vindicator
Public bug reported:

There were a whole bunch of updates available after a fresh install.
I selected ONLY Ubuntu base and ecryptfs, however while watching the detailed
progress output, I saw other packages downloading and unpacking like facebook
plugin and libreoffice related packages even though I KNOW I deselected them.

Perhaps the deselected items HAD to be installed because of other selected
updates such as something in Ubuntu-base changed so an unselected item needed
to upgrade as well due to a dependent incompatibility.
If that were the case, I would expect a notification.

[Bug 1460483] Re: File Properties Open-With Won't Set Default

2015-05-31 Thread Vindicator
The issue is with Google-Chrome.

I purged Chrome, rebooted and was able to set the default for the xml
file to gedit.

After installing chrome again, the same behavior of chrome stealing the
default and not allowing any change continued.

[Bug 1459551] Re: Xorg crash

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rafał, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t60 an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.27).

[Bug 1460250] Re: xdiagnose errors

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
orellanafrank, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t61 an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.30). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
rwmarch, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1460455] [NEW] I have exactly the same issue - followed steps in this article but to no avail

2015-05-31 Thread Jonathan Greenwood
Public bug reported:

Now and then when I boot my machine (Ubuntu 13.10) and likely while
running Chrome across various web pages (I think I'm usually in a
browser, but I'm not sure), an administrator password dialog box is
presented stating that the Dropbox request requires the admin password (
see an image of the dialog box at
http://imageshack.com/a/img89/9084/5fy0.png ) - AS it is that I have not
been asking Dropbox to do something, I have simply selected [cancel] on
the dialog box...

Can someone explain why this is happening?

Thanks,
Tom

[Bug 1460458] [NEW] Dual Sim; no possibility to switch on or off each sim card completely.

2015-05-31 Thread hurz
Public bug reported:

If two sim cards is used there is no possibility to switch each sim card on or
off completely
(to completely activate or deactivate sim 1 and sim 2 separately).

Sim 1 and sim 2 inside:
Often I do not want to use both sim cards at the same time.
Sometimes it's needed that only sim 1 is active.
Sometimes it's needed that only sim 2 is active.
Sometimes it's needed that sim 1 and sim 2 is active.

So there should be the possibility to completely activate/deactivate sim 1 and
sim 2 separately.
Would be nice in the context menu of the network indicator,
an on/off switch for sim1 and sim2.
Or at least in systemsettings.

15.04...

[Bug 1460328] Re: Parts of screen out of view

2015-05-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Gavin Rey, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/HelpDesk_Download/
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(2201). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

[Bug 1459149] Re: keyboard and mouse not responding at login

2015-05-31 Thread Joris Bierkens
I have tried reverse bisecting but unfortunately the bug does not always
appear in versions = 3.13.2. This makes it very hard and incredibly
time consuming (for me at least) to conclusively determine which commit
is the first one that solves the bug. As far as I am concerned, I'll
leave it here. I am happy that the bug is resolved on my pc and I thank
penalvch for his suggestion. If there are simple, less time consuming
ways of further resolving this issue I would not mind looking into it.

2015-05-31 Thread Vindicator
Public bug reported:

It used to work, but now I'm trying to associate gedit with a .contact (xml)
file and it won't switch from Google Chrome as the default.
Right-mouse on .contact file
Click Open-With
Select gedit (related applications)
Click Set as default
The highlighted selection switches to the current Default Application that is
Google-Chrome and doesn't switch to gedit.
