[Bug 1464980] [NEW] protoc can't find shared libaries

2015-06-14 Thread Tobias Sturm
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of the package protobuf-compiler I get the error:
 protoc: error while loading shared libraries: libprotoc.so.10: cannot open
 shared object file: No such file or directory.

in my /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu there is only a libprotoc.so.8 pointing
to libprotoc.so.8.0.0

Is there a dependecy missing?
I am running a ubuntu 14.10

[Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-06-14 Thread Simao
Hello,

I had the same problem with my hardware (Asus Ux303LA, Intel 5500, i7)

It appears to have been fixed upstream in drm-intel-next,

You can try it using a kernel with the latest drm-intel-next, which you
can get from here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-
intel-next/current/

I also use i915.enable_execlists=0 as a kernel parameter and it appears
to be stable now.

[Bug 990982] Re: [Multiarch] libfreetype6-dev:i386 dependencies issue

2015-06-14 Thread kenorb
How does this fix the problem?

Installing libfreetype6-dev:i386 on Debian Wheezy still trying to
remove: cpp g++ g++-multilib gcc , etc. and having libfreetype6-dev is
still not enough to compile 32-bit wine.

Comment #19 doesn't mention anything about fix in libfreetype.

Is there any workaround to install 32-bit FreeType 2 development files?
Or how to use the fix?

using-wine

[Bug 1412036] Re: Korean typing doesn't work

2015-06-14 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
With that explanation i take back all I wrote above and agree. 호 로 라
;)

Obviously I wasn't aware of that toggle possibility. Possibly there was
a silent change in behavior between 14.04 and 14.10, and even if it may
have caused confusion, it's not a bug.

Thanks!

[Bug 1254085] Re: ssh fails to connect to VPN host - hangs at 'expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY'

2015-06-14 Thread pedroleouf
I had the same issue. No VPN tho, client is `OpenSSH_6.6.1p1 Ubuntu-
2ubuntu2, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014` and server is `OpenSSH_6.6.1p1
Ubuntu-2ubuntu2, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014` (yes, same). Of course scp
or rsync and anything using ssh connection using openssh was broken as
well.

Changing the MTU of my connection to 1200 fixed the issue, but yeah,
it's a workaround...

According to Mint 17.x user, this is still an issue in Trusty (on which Mint

Is the fix going to reach Trusty repos anytime soon?
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1465003] [NEW] U1db.Document silently ignores key assignment

2015-06-14 Thread Sam Bull
Public bug reported:

document.contents[foo] = bar has no effect.

This results in needing to write the above code as:
  var temp = document.contents
  temp[foo] = bar
  document.contents = temp

This is annoying and ugly code everytime I want to update a single
value.

Proposed solution:
  Allow saving keys directly.

  If for some reason this is absolutely not possible, atleast throw an
error or display a warning when an assignment is attempted, as it is
clearly not the desired behaviour that the above line of code does
absolutely nothing.

[Bug 1464757] Re: Audio broken on Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140

2015-06-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
GaryParr:

I know Dell released an A05 BIOS for this model... but then pulled the
BIOS after it caused problems.

Would you have further information towards this (ex. support article on
Dell's website noting this)?

...(I'm A04)...

Just to advise, as per your Bug Description you are using BIOS A05 (not
A04).

Despite this, one thing that could be discussed with Dell as per your dmesg
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/208945923/CurrentDmesg.txt :
[0.076672] Your BIOS is broken and requested that x2apic be disabled.
This will slightly decrease performance.
Use 'intremap=no_x2apic_optout' to override BIOS request.

Hence, at a minimum they either should provide an updated BIOS that
fixes at least this issue, or if this was the problem introduced in A05,
they should provide A04 via their website.

[Bug 1464723] Re: Human interface devices stop working on USB 2.0 ports after some time, continue to work on USB 3.0

2015-06-14 Thread mmaurer
I finished the git bisect between 355957e Linux 3.19.8 and a52caa6 UBUNTU:
Ubuntu-3.19.0-20.20.
The first bad commit seems to be 171cf878ea3fed6722e49d3d7da2588967008526.

I just subscribed the responsible committer.

Will now try master-next (
7c1f75fcd0efb22069a5a935d3d042392f308100) with and without the 171cf87
commit reverted.

Some input regarding further useful tests or regarding further code
changes would be appreciated.

[Bug 1399952] Re: [Dell Latitude 2110] dell_led driver does not auto-load (bad alias)

2015-06-14 Thread Ben Harris
Tested against 4.1.0-040100rc7.201506080035. The dell-led module
doesn't autoload unless I put in place the workaround modprobe.d file
metioned in the original report.

[Bug 1447956] Re: Banshee interface unresponsive after upgrade to 15.04

2015-06-14 Thread Michael
Installed the update from vivid-proposed and it seems to work well. I'm
listening to banshee for several hours now and the terrible GUI delays
unresponsiveness seem to have been fixed on ubuntu 15.04. Thank you very much
for taking care of this!

[Bug 1464968] [NEW] Unable to import photos from Samsung Galaxy Note 3

2015-06-14 Thread Michael Sharman
Public bug reported:

I'm having trouble accessing photos or files on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3
phone.

Plugging in phone and using Shotwell, then clikcing on the
SMASUNG_Android camera cause a Could not claim USB device (-53) error,
which when dismissed just displays a Starting import please wait
message indefinitely.

In an attempt to figure out what is going wrong I've been using the mtp-
detect command as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1314556

So this is a log of what I've done:

(running kernel is 3.19.0-20-generic)

1. Unplug and plug in Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and get dmesg output:

[   25.386168] usb 1-2: USB disconnect, device number 2
[   28.245983] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
[   28.375245] usb 1-2: New USB device found, idVendor=04e8, idProduct=6860

[   28.375250] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
[   28.375251] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

2. Kill any gvfs processes that might interfere with with mtp-detect

msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ killall gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor

3. Make sure phone is unlocked and run mtp-detect:
msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
libmtp version: 1.1.8

Listing raw device(s)
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung Galaxy models (MTP).
   Found 1 device(s):

PTP_ERROR_IO: failed to open session, trying again after resetting USB interface
LIBMTP libusb: Attempt to reset device
LIBMTP PANIC: failed to open session on second attempt
Unable to open raw device 0
OK.

4. Check dmesg output:
msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ dmesg | tail
[   28.375250] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
[   28.375251] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

[  217.885230] xhci_hcd :00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with

It looks like there could be an xhci related kernel bug?

So I tried using a newer mainline kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-vivid/linux-
image-4.0.0-04-generic_4.0.0-04.201504121935_amd64.deb

With this kernel I get different dmesg output but the mtp-detect still
fails (following the exact same procedure as above but I'm just showing
the differences here)

(running kernel 4.0.0)

msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
libmtp version: 1.1.8

Listing raw device(s)

msharman@laptop-msharman:~$ dmesg | tail

[  215.634196] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
[  215.634198] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 2410ba56

So upgrading to kernel 4.0 has done something it's fixed the xhci_hcd
related errors but the mtp-detect is still failing (I've tried gphoto2
-L as well and got similar results).

But issue still remains.

[Bug 1385813] Re: find -size -Nk seems to be off by 1

2015-06-14 Thread Andreas Metzler
The -size -nX check works like this:

How many units sized one X each is the file using,
a) less than n
or
b) at least n

Therefore -size -1M or -size -1k or -size -1c all match only empty
files.

A 1025 byte sized file uses two 1K-units (it has to, there is only space
for 1024 bytes in a single 1K unit) and will therefore not match -size
-2k.

[Bug 1464998] [NEW] A2DP headet sink doesn't appear

I have a Sennheiser MM450-X headset, which successfully connects to my

[Bug 1449678] Re: zram-config 0.3 : Job for zram-config.service failed

2015-06-14 Thread Mélodie
Hi,

Many days after I have removed zram-config I still have zram loaded and
a /dev/zram0 created. This is what I did to remove it right now, and I
have not yet rebooted to see the result. If after a reboot I need to do
it all over again, I will have to blacklist it.

Please note that this situation is first seen for me, since many years.
Also note afaik some scripts done by mystillef for Fedora, which uses
systemd since a long time, don't have this issue.

$ cat /proc/swaps
FilenameTypeSizeUsedPriority
/dev/zram0  partition   947216  0   100
/dev/sda6   partition   4607996 0   -1
$

There is a zram0 device loaded (I haven't asked it to load, this is what I
found after a fresh boot), with priority 100 (which is not an issue for me,
just notice the priority if using zram-config is 5, not 100).

$ systemctl list-units | grep zram
sys-devices-virtual-block-zram0.device
  loaded active plugged   /sys/devices/virtual/block/zram0
dev-zram0.swap
  loaded active active/dev/zram0

Information about systemd related loaded units

$ sudo swapoff /dev/zram0
[sudo] password for melodie:
$

unmounting the swap device

$ systemctl list-units | grep zram
sys-devices-virtual-block-zram0.device
  loaded active plugged   /sys/devices/virtual/block/zram0

Checking what units are still seen

$ sudo systemctl disable sys-devices-virtual-block-zram0.device

Disabling the above unit

$ systemctl list-units | grep zram
sys-devices-virtual-block-zram0.device
  loaded active plugged   /sys/devices/virtual/block/zram0

Checking the result of the disable command. Obviously it produced no result.
Maybe a rmmod will do it? See after:

$ sudo rmmod zram
$ sudo systemctl disable sys-devices-virtual-block-zram0.device
$ systemctl list-units | grep zram
$

Now it worked!

My guess is I can redo it all over again after next boot, as long as
zram isn't blacklisted in a blacklist file under /etc/

This is an issue which is very severe because it can affect the
stability of a system : for one, zram is still in the staging directory;
for two we have seen these last years that depending on the kernel and
how it was tweaked (Precise and after), using zram at same time as these
kernels could make a session freeze completely.

So, I am aware that I am using an edition not meant for the large
audience : I am a tester here and I know it. I would appreciate this
issue to be addressed within a few months and if possible, long before
the next LTS is out.

The expected behavior:
1) I install zram-config, it works a treat;

2) I remove zram-config from the installed packages, no more zram is
loaded;

3) additional options would be welcome:
* the ability to setup how large the block devices should be (1/3, or 1/4 of
available memory, or any number, as explained in the wiki of the original
compcache project);
* the ability to decide how many block devices should be created, in relation
to the number of cores ran by a machine;
*the ability to start and stop it on demand, without the need to remove it from
the system.

Best regards,
Mélodie

[Bug 1465002] [NEW] Network manager ignores the Automatic unlock for SIM cards

2015-06-14 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

I have a SIM card for the mobile broadband (the broadband card is built

if I specified Automatic unlock option, so that I have to type the

standby.

[Bug 1464950] Re: output flushing error causing ugly output for autoremove

2015-06-14 Thread David Kalnischkies
Yeah, relatively recent in its very visible form, but a relatively old problem
in its cause.
Fixed in upstream git for a while, but thanks to diverting branches
(abi-breakfree unstable and abi-breaking experimental) it hasn't reached a
(non-experimental) release yet:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/apt/apt.git/commit/?id=2a884c612b10b27f4be2cc6dd689bfe448d9361a

It is written as an abi break, but could be rewritten to not require one
with some care (at least binary compatible, technically source
compatibility breaks and theoretically its still a behavior change). I
just decided against it at the time it was clear we would have to keep
the diversion a little longer than originally planed and backported just
the absolutely needed stuff. We could do it now, but I guess the time
is better spent in stopping to semi-maintain two branches. Hence setting
fix commited in anticipation of fix released soon [all while
realizing that I might very well be the biggest blocker in this process
with my perfectionism]

  Twenty people were given an Ubuntu phone and asked to find their own
  phone number. (10 were iPhone users, 8 Android, 1 Windows Phone, and 1
  feature phone user.)

  The first place they looked:
  - 9 in the Contacts app
  - 5 in System Settings Phone screen
  - 3 in System Settings About screen
  - 2 in the Dialer app contacts screen
  - 1 in System Settings Cellular screen.

  So, our current placement of the phone number in the About screen (bug
  1221908) is suboptimal.

- Instead it should be in the Contacts app, and possibly in the Phone
- screen.
-
+ Instead it should be in the Contacts app, and possibly in the Phone screen.
  Where the phone is dual SIM, both phone numbers should be shown.

- This first needs design work.
+ Only once that is done, it should be removed from the About screen.

[Bug 1464994] [NEW] Low audio volume on Thinkpad Helix

2015-06-14 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad Helix, which I dual boot with Windows 8.x and Ubuntu.

The audio volume in Ubuntu is low, compared to Windows, even when the
device output is set on 100%.

For example, when I watch something, on VLC, I can increase both the VLC
volume and the device output to more than 100%, say 130% each; in this
case, I reach a volume comparable to Windows, but in this case is
clipped.
