[Bug 1509135] Re: Discrete Radeon graphics unit won't stay *off*

2015-10-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
foobar, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions
are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1510896] [NEW] confusing dialog box when installing updates

2015-10-28 Thread Anton Hughes
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I get prompted to install ubuntu updates I get a dialog
box that states ubuntu "Requires installation of untrusted packages".

The user options when presented with the above are "settings" and "Ok".

As a user, clicking OK means, yes, thanks for informing me, lets proceed
with the installation.

Actually OK appears to cancel the operation, eg, OK means Not OK to
proceed.

In summary, the UX is confusing, and not helpful. It is also a dead-end.
There seems to be no obvious way to continue.

[Bug 1453298]

2015-10-28 Thread SM Fahmid
Also affecting Debian Jessie's stock kernel, 3.16.0-4-amd64.

I am running on a Thinkpad T430 with i5-3320M 2.6GHz Ivybridge CPU.
Under sustained load, the whole computer will freeze (no ssh, no
keyboard inputs, no nothing), within a period of 4 to 4.5 hours.

Using YouTube or running any sort of video media will escalate the
problem, however, it can freeze up randomly, between 30 mins to over 6
hours.

After compiling kernel 3.15.10 from kernel.org, the issue is gone. This
seems to have started only from version 3.16 and onwards. Version 4.2.3,
the latest kernel, STILL has not fixed this issue.

Intel, please do something about this. Some people might have need for
the latest kernel (I do not, at the moment, but I'd rather not stick
with an outdated kernel).

[Bug 1408347] Re: bump version to 1.11 in ubuntu 15.04?

2015-10-28 Thread Nigel Stewart
I'm the upstream maintainer of GLEW, my comment is that although a lot
of packages depend on GLEW, the vast majority of changes are fully
backwards compatible. 1.11.0 is itself nearly one year old and is two
versions behind. Fortunately for me I'm not having too much traffic
about obsolete bugs, but it's fairly discouraging to see such a delay
between fresh new OpenGL functionality and widespread availability to
GLEW-based apps. I do think it would be good to see something newer
than 1.10.0 show up in Ubuntu 16.04

[Bug 1453298]

2015-10-28 Thread Michal-9
I'm seeing very similar symptoms on my Celeron N2940 sysstem. I'm using
Arch distro with kernel 4.2.3-1. The system freezes from time to time
when playing videos, especialy when using HW acceleration. It usually
happens when playing videos from mpv with VAAPI HW decoding enabled or
flash videos in Firefox with HW decoding enabled in flash config file.
System freezes usually in 10 to 30 minutes of playback. Playing videos
with no HW decoding means less freezes of my system, but not avoiding
them. It just happens less frequent and from time to time, even when no
videoplayback is running in my LXDE.

My best guess is that this behavior started somewhere between kernel
version 4.0.7 and 4.1.6. Unfortunatelly, I can't be more specific, as it
took me more than two months stresstesting CPU and memory before I
pinpointed this problem as most probably connected with heavy GFX usage.

I already tried a few options with no luck, like i915.reset=0/1,
i915.enable_rc6=0/1 and i915.semaphores=0/1. I couldn't feel any
difference, except with enable_rc6=9. System was even less stable then.

Using drm.debug=1 did not produce any intereseting messages before
freeze. It's filled with "random" I915_GEM_BUSY, I9!5_GEM_EXECBUFFER2
and I915_GEM_MADVISE messages up to freeze. Of course, I can post the
log if someone feels it's interested anyway.

I'm willing to offer more help with debuging this issue.

I'll just chime in, as I also notice a huge difference between kernel
4.1 and 4.2. On my Shuttle XS36V4 (Celeron J1900), running arch
completely up-to-date, I can hardly watch 15 minutes of video before it
all locks up. After reverting the kernel back to 4.1.6-1, the system is
quite stable again.

[Bug 1453298]

2015-10-28 Thread Adf-lists
My Asrock Q1900DC was originally bought to be a headless router/pvr/nas
which it now is - so no more testing of this lock from me for a long
time (or so I thought).

When putting it to its new duties I put a vanilla 4.1.1 on it (didn't
patch as being headless I don't get any i915 interrupts). All was good -
uptime 100 days varied CPU loads no issues.

USB has some xhci isoc pstate issues which were worked around by
disabling USB3 in bios to force ehci driver. This issue was low level
packet loss from dvb tuners not locks.

Recently needed to re-locate and while doing so updated to 4.1.10 = hard
lock after 7 days uptime. The kernel was not the only difference as I
attached a usb printer and so have usb module and cups running now,
though the printer had been off for days when it locked.

Anyway I am back on 4.1.1 now (with printer) and will have to see how
long it lasts to be sure whether the kernel or the printer (or the
move!) was the cause.

[Bug 1510907] [NEW] Thunderbird Gnome Notification Deactivation Ignored, Wily 15.10

Public bug reported:

I am trying to disable Thunderbird notifications in Gnome Shell without

I have disabled Thunderbird notifications in the gnome Shell notifications

I am still seeing notification banners popping up.
With notifications enabled, I do not get duplicates.
Changing notification settings seems to have no effect

[Bug 1510793] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2015-10-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Timo Harmonen, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t440s an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.35). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-10-28 Thread Papadakos Panagiotis

A few days ago I had exactly the same bug, i.e. netbeans locking randomly in
loading modules. From yesterday, that I updated the packages of my 15.10
system, netbeans, netbeans installer and freemind get killed randomly. From the
related bugs that I have reported it seems that XInitThreads is not called at
all, which could possible explain (the locking and crashing problems)
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=797595#60

By the way, have you installed the latest updates? Do you experience the
same bug if you downgrade to openjdk-7?

I rudely subscribed Brian Murray because I know he has excellent

[Bug 1510893] Re: "ubuntu-bug" crashes

2015-10-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1510893/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

The module can be loaded on boot and then it can (automatically) be
unloaded (at some point) if the GPU is disabled in a hybrid system. When
that happens, we have no way of telling a system where the discrete GPU
was disabled from one where the GPU is not there (e.g. disabled from the
BIOS, dead, or simply not there).

Both fglrx and nvidia print a line with the BusID of the device when
they are loaded. Gpu-manager collects the BusID from the log and adds it
to the list of available devices.

You can see an example of their output in set_unloaded_module_in_dmesg()
in tests/gpu-manager.py.

Please keep in mind that, at least for nvidia, gpu-manager needs to run
on log out too, not only on boot.

What do you recommend that we use?

update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Bug 1510364] Re: LXpanel might auto-restart when RMB is pressed and mouse cursor is below or at task pane

2015-10-28 Thread A. Eibach
So here we go again.

http://git.lxde.org/gitweb/?p=lxde/lxpanel.git;a=commit;h=bd6533554418767438eee066c3d76efe54fc1c64

Note, it's not exactly the commit that turned 'flawed' to 'fixed'; the crucial
file in any case is launchtaskbar.c .
That's where the fix was done in; but Andriy has fixed YET another crash (this
tmie in _NET_WM_ICON), so why not kill two birds with one stone?
I mean, *if* we point to such version upstream, AND it only involves one main
source file, we should take the one with the last successful fix.
And this is bd65335...

[Bug 1509894] Re: Cannot include "netinet/in.h" with "linux/netfilter/nf_nat.h" and "sys/capability.h"

2015-10-28 Thread David Renshaw
I've found that I can work around the issue by reordering my includes,
like this:

```
// test.c
#include "netinet/in.h"
#include "sys/capability.h"
#include "linux/netfilter/nf_nat.h"
int main() {
  // Program that needs to call capset() and htonl(), and also needs
  // to do some netfilter things with NF_ACCEPT...
}
```

The program now compiles without any errors.

[Bug 1510824] Re: PolkitAgentSession ignores multiline output (with pam_vas)

2015-10-28 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
** Description changed:

  There is an error observed when Ubuntu is configured to perform
  authentication via pam_vas (Vintela Authentication Services by Dell) in
  a disconnected mode (using cached authentication).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Configure pam_vas client authenticating to a remote server.
  2. Perform authentication to cache the credentials.
  3. Disconnect from the network where the server is reachable (to force using
cached information).
  4. Perform an action requiring polkit authentication.

  Expected result:
  Authentication succeeds accompanied by the following message "You have logged
in using cached account information. Some network services will be
unavailable".

  Actual result:
  Authentication fails accompanied by the following message "You have logged in
using cached account information. Some network services will be unavailable".

  Probable cause:
  The PolkitAgentSession part of polkit is designed to interpret only 1-line
output, while interaction with pam_vas in the above scenario triggers helper to
produce the following 2-line output:
  PAM_TEXT_INFO You have logged in using cached account information. Some
network services will be unavailable
  SUCCESS

- The 'SUCCESS' part is never read so the authentication never ends
+ The 'SUCCESS' part is never read so the authentication never finishes
  successfully.

[Bug 1505564] Re: Soft lockup with "block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket" spam

2015-10-28 Thread Junien Fridrick
apport information

** Description changed:

  Hi,

  Some of our nova compute hosts regularly freeze, sometimes for a few hours,
with kern.log getting spammed with :
  block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket

  and a few "CPU soft lockup" messages (see attached log). This clears up when
the queue gets cleared, eg :
  block nbdX: queue cleared

  trusty hosts with kernel version 3.19.0-30-generic.

  Note that timestamps from kern.log appears to be wrong, it looks like
  the messages are being held, and then all delivered at once when the
  kernel unfreezes.

  Attaching apport files from 2 hosts below.
