[Bug 1518289] [NEW] front headphone jack recognised by alsa but ignored by pulseaudio
Public bug reported: Summary: PC has Card: HD-Audio Generic Chip: Realtek ALC887-VD Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit pulseaudio 1:6.0-0ubuntu13 - working rear audio jack connected to speakers - volume controlled from Settings>Sound>Sound Output tab. - nonworking front headphone jack - no corresponding output device in Settings>Sound>Sound Output tab. (not affected by whether or not headphones are connected at boot time) However front headphone jack is visible (muted) in alsamixer, and volume can be unmuted and raised in current session - returns to muted on reboot. Detail: This desktop PC was previously running trusty with front headphone jack working normally - if audio on rear jack there was audio in headphones. I do not remember now whether the audio volume was separately controlled as a second output device, either would have worked fine for me. Fresh install of wily on a new disk resulted in working rear audio jack, but non-working front headphone jack. The ubuntu Settings>Sound Output tab shows only one device for sound output: "Line Out - Built-in Audio". My expectation is that the volume level of the headphone jack should initially be set to a non-zero level. After exploring various options, I discovered that the front headphone jack is visible in alsamixer but displayed as level 0 and muted. It can be made to work in the current session by unmuting and setting to a non- zero level. Adjusting volume and balance in the ubuntu Settings>Sound Output tab affects the audio output levels to the headphone jack in the way one might expect, but when the settings are changed while alsamixer is open (eg left right balance), the vertical bars for the headphone level do not move as they do for all other output jacks. But when the surround sound profile is changed in the Settings>Sound Output tab, both actual headphone volume and headphone volume bars in alsamixer drop to 0 with muting. In any event, on reboot the jack is muted again and needs to be reset in alsamixer. Following online advice, I unsuccessfully tried various ways to make the unmuted settings survive a reboot - eg running alsamixer under sudo, alsactl store. Eventually I looked at the contents of the /var/lib/alsa/asound.state file and realised that the unmuted state was properly set in the file and was unchanged on reboot. The muting was being caused by pulseaudio. I was able to verify this by unmuting in alsamixer and restarting pulseaudio without rebooting - the output was muted again. If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new bug report. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /python-oslo.concurrency/1.8.2-0ubuntu0.15.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. I can't easily backport your 7.3 or 7.4 packages to 14.04 due to the need to rebuild python-tk and python3-tk when backporting blt 2.5. Re: [Bug 1517102] Re: Gmail webapp account renewal not successful
What I observed with a set of old tokens is that our own (canonical.com) token renewal process gets ejected into the browser. The redirects are part of the SAML / 3rd party auth. process, but not all of it is trapped unfortunately. Eventually, after restarting the webapp 3 times to finalize the process, the tokens get refreshed and the Gmail webapp redirects to the main UI, but there are at least 2 redirects that end up in the browser. Here is what I found in the logs : qml: Opening: https://login.ubuntu.com/two_factor_auth?next=/saml/process in the browser window. ... and later ... qml: Opening: https://login.ubuntu.com/saml/process in the browser window. I also spotted a few: process 23654: arguments to dbus_connection_close() were incorrect, assertion "c onnection->generation == _dbus_current_generation" failed in file ../../dbus/dbu s-connection.c line 2935. if that matters.
