[Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working

2015-12-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
D Fine, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-
netbooks/ThinkPad-X-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-Type-34xx? an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.72).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have
to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please
mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1274320] Re: Error: diskfilter writes are not supported

2015-12-19 Thread YitzchokL
After installing 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.7 on Trusty (14.04.3 32-bit) I no longer
see the message during boot.
(This was perfect timing for me! I only just dealt with the upgrade from Grub
legacy today and was disappointed to see an error message, which is now gone)
Thanks

[Bug 1464917] Re: reboot hangs at 'Reached target Shutdown'

2015-12-19 Thread Gregory Kramida
@xtrchessreal, yes, alt+SysRq+ REISUB didn't work. It did help me out in
some other strange glitches. I think in this case, the USB drivers were
already shut off, and since I have a USB keyborad, it was unresponsive.
Maybe an analog / laptop keyboard would have worked.

[Bug 1523013] Re: "Paper & Quality options" issue with translation

2015-12-19 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
YannUbuntu,

There are two issues here:

1) The PPD is incorrect group names should be without * like this:
*OpenGroup: GroupPaperQualityOptions, then translations appear correctly
in cups webinterface and system-config-printer. This should be reported
to epson or try the OpenPrinting Epson forum:
http://forums.openprinting.org/list.php?26

2) system-config-printer doesn't seem to handle the ampersand & well
displaying cups webinterface does display it correctly, this needs
to be checked against the latest s-c-p and if it is still a problem need
to be reported to s-c-p upstream.

[Bug 1412943] Re: security.ubuntu.com (2001:67c:1562::XXX) not reachable via HE

2015-12-19 Thread Marc Kolly
This problem has been around since 2012 when they enabled IPv6 for their
"core services". This: #241305 shows the development of the problem we
face now.

I'm not using HE. I tested it using Telekom + M-Net (Germany) and O2 +
UPC (Czech Republic), so we can basically say that it's not reachable in
at least large parts of Germany and Czech Republic.

Why won't Canonical do something about their routing and peerings
It's almost four years that we were facing this problem!

However I don't understand your request of opening a new bug as I am

[Bug 1527928] Re: Kernel update denies connect w/netgear900

2015-12-19 Thread Oceola
The universal wireless programming may have been compromised in the updated
kernel.
The problem lay somewhere in the kernel itself and the hardware recognition of
the Netgear 900.
It seems to see it but act weak. Wireless panel with available connections
comes up but the completion of the connection seems restricted somehow.

[Bug 1464917] Re: reboot hangs at 'Reached target Shutdown'

2015-12-19 Thread Gregory Kramida
@xtrchessreal, if Chromium background processes are the culprit on your
platform, this would mean we are suffering from different issues.
Indeed, my symptoms are actually a bit different from what's described
in the original bug report -- I'm seeing the "Reached target Shutdown"
when I actually try to shut down, not reboot, and the system doesn't
fully shut down. My reboot works fine.

You can try to disable Chromium background processes from running in the
background when Chromium is shut down (settings --> Show advanced
settings --> uncheck "Continue running ... "), and close chromium before
you reboot.

[Bug 1527932] [NEW] xfce4 power settings not honoured for critical battery power events

2015-12-19 Thread amx109
Public bug reported:

under xfce power manager settings, if i set 'critical battery power
level' to 1% and 'on critical battery power' to 'do nothing', it seems
these settings are ignored. as soon as my battery gets to 5% the xfce
environment shuts down my laptop.

the expected behaviour is for nothing to happen.

Some things to note:
* if i login via a console to bash, the shutdown doesnt happen when the battery
is at 5% or lower
* i moved the xfce4 power manager binary from /usr/bin to make sure it wasnt
run on login, and the shutdown still happens when i login

[Bug 1527832] Re: After update, error drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915] halts startup

2015-12-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Cassady, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

At your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder)? Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 207135] Re: pulseaudio uses too much CPU

2015-12-19 Thread Susan Cragin
This is still a problem for me. I open a wine application with sound and
it starts okay but within a minute or two pulseaudio usage goes up to
about 30% of CPU.

[Bug 1527900] [NEW] SDC cannot fetch iso files from a directory with non-standard characters

2015-12-19 Thread sudodus
Public bug reported:

Using Swedish, the 'Downloads' folder is named 'Hämtningar', and the SDC
cannot fetch files from that folder, probably because of the non-
standard character ä (a-umlaut). I suppose there are similar problems
with other non-standard characters, that might appear when other
languages are used.

[Bug 1527928] [NEW] Kernel update denies connect w/netgear900

2015-12-19 Thread Oceola
Public bug reported:

Trusty 14.04.3LTS recent kernel update partially denies connection with
NetGear900 to Novatel Mifi

linux-firmware (1.127.18) to 1.127.19
link's-generic (3.13.0.71.77) to 3.13.0.73.79
linux-headers-generic (3.13.0.71.77) to 3.13.0.73.79
linux-image-generic (3.13.0.71.77) to 3.13.0.73.79
linux-libc-dev (3.13.0-71.114) to 3.13.0-73.116
linux-tools-common (3.13.0-71.114) to 3.13.0-73.116

Installed the following packages:
linux-headers-3.13.0-73 (3.13.0-73.116)
linux-headers-3.13.0-73-generic (3.13.0-73.116)
linux-image-3.13.0-73-generic (3.13.0-73.116)
linux-image-extra-3.13.0-73-generic (3.13.0-73.116)

Caused some form of loop or failure to complete which did not recognize or
fully complete connection.
Temporary fix was to drop back to Linux kernel 3.13.0.71.77 under advanced in
Grub

Same issue for both Ubuntu Trusty 14.04.3LTS and Linux Mint17.

Expectation was for the connect to complete

[Bug 1527894] [NEW] gpu-manager making system unusable in optimus system

2015-12-19 Thread Luca Mastromatteo
Public bug reported:

I'm using nvida-current drivers with bumblebee following the ubuntu wiki guide,
rebooting, gpu-manager creates automatically an Xorg.conf overriding the
correct bumblebee one.
I had to rename in /usr/bin/gpu-manager to gpu-manager.old to fix this problem,
with removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf

When I install bumblebee and it's dependencies it should reboot
correctly

Instead, X.org fallback is runned.

I'm using the latest Ubuntu, updated today.

[Bug 1468180] Re: [Lenovo ThinkStation S30-3] 'Run Firmware Test Suite (fwts) desktop-specific diagnosis tests.' always fail

2015-12-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Gabriel Zhi Chen, as per
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Workstations/ThinkStation-S
-Series-workstations/ThinkStation-S30? an update to your computer's
buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A2KT53A). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change
anything?

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please
mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1527865] Re: FTBFS on i386

2015-12-19 Thread Robie Basak
@Alberto

I'm an Ubuntu Core Developer. I'm confident that "FTBFS on i386 on Wily
and Xenial" is enough for any Ubuntu developer to understand what the
bug is about. The external link is only for context in understanding bug
impact, not the bug itself.

To be more specific for future reference to save developers looking it
up, the relevant package versions are 1:3.7-2ubuntu1 and
1:3.7.1-1ubuntu1.
