[Bug 270512] Re: openssh-client could suggest xauth rather than recommend it
This is still an issue with xenial. The problem this causes is that on an Ubuntu Server system, installing any package which depends on openssh-client will also pull in pretty much the whole X11 system. Example: root@xenial1:~# apt-get install rancid Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following additional packages will be installed: expect fontconfig-config fonts-dejavu-core libdrm-amdgpu1 libdrm-intel1 libdrm-nouveau2 libdrm-radeon1 libfontconfig1 libfontenc1 libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglapi-mesa libice6 libllvm3.8 libpciaccess0 libperl4-corelibs-perl libsm6 libtcl8.6 libtk8.6 libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 libx11-xcb1 libxaw7 libxcb-dri2-0 libxcb-dri3-0 libxcb-glx0 libxcb-present0 libxcb-shape0 libxcb-sync1 libxcomposite1 libxdamage1 libxfixes3 libxft2 libxi6 libxinerama1 libxmu6 libxpm4 libxrandr2 libxrender1 libxshmfence1 libxss1 libxt6 libxtst6 libxv1 libxxf86dga1 libxxf86vm1 tcl-expect tcl8.6 tk8.6 x11-common x11-utils xbitmaps xterm Suggested packages: diffstat tcl-tclreadline mesa-utils xfonts-cyrillic The following NEW packages will be installed expect fontconfig-config fonts-dejavu-core libdrm-amdgpu1 libdrm-intel1 libdrm-nouveau2 libdrm-radeon1 libfontconfig1 libfontenc1 libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglapi-mesa libice6 libllvm3.8 libpciaccess0 libperl4-corelibs-perl libsm6 libtcl8.6 libtk8.6 libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 libx11-xcb1 libxaw7 libxcb-dri2-0 libxcb-dri3-0 libxcb-glx0 libxcb-present0 libxcb-shape0 libxcb-sync1 libxcomposite1 libxdamage1 libxfixes3 libxft2 libxi6 libxinerama1 libxmu6 libxpm4 libxrandr2 libxrender1 libxshmfence1 libxss1 libxt6 libxtst6 libxv1 libxxf86dga1 libxxf86vm1 rancid tcl-expect tcl8.6 tk8.6 x11-common x11-utils xbitmaps xterm 0 to upgrade, 53 to newly install, 0 to remove and 0 not to upgrade. Need to get 20.1 MB of archives. After this operation, 172 MB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n This is silly. But: root@xenial1:~# apt-get install rancid --no-install-recommends Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following additional packages will be installed: expect libperl4-corelibs-perl libtcl8.6 tcl-expect Suggested packages: tcl8.6 diffstat Recommended packages: tcl8.6 tk8.6 The following NEW packages will be installed expect libperl4-corelibs-perl libtcl8.6 rancid tcl-expect That's what I expected. It seems to me that: * if the system you are using a client is graphical (e.g. Ubuntu desktop), then you will probably have xauth already * if the system you are using is text-based, then you definitely don't want xauth/X11 just to have an ssh client. So if anything "recommends" xauth, shouldn't it be X11 or the desktop environment, not the openssh client? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270512 Title: openssh-client could suggest xauth rather than recommend it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/270512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1530530]
Created attachment 680175 result from test iso 7 The memory layout is shown, but only the image shown in the attachment (below memory layout) is what's gotten after that. Waiting or pressing Esc does not change anything. That is, only the diagonal lines background that was also shown with test iso 6 (aside from top left corner that had other info), with nothing else. Note that while the background is drawn immediately, any characters outputted are v-e-r-y slow to output, so any timing assumptions may be wrong. As mentioned at https://johnlewis.ie/alls-well-that-braswell/ - if one would have a full screen of text output, it might take a full minute to draw. Think of a 300bps modem line. [Bug 1530530]
I'm currently out of ideas and it will be tricky to make progress without such a device at my desk. :-( Issues I've seen: - the video bios knows only one video mode with an unusual resolution; the standard gfxboot script doesn't expect this (and doesn't provide a theme in this resolution), but that can be trivially adjusted - it seems that the graphics card can only be accessed via framebuffer; but gfxboot uses the old method via 64k windows mapped at 0xa for drawing; I've added a patch that changes this (see link below) - and which works at least on some test machines - it still doesn't work here; the patch seems to be ok because you can (a) draw directly by using the framebuffer pointer and do memory writes (the dots you see with the test isos) and (b) the debug window is visible (it's drawn using standard internal routines) - my suspicion atm is that _reading_ from the framebuffer causes problems: it's done implicitly internally at a number of places and can't be avoided (design decision from the old times where free memory was scarce); also, maybe strange mtrr settings are an issue I've put the current state into the chrome_fb branch (there's some translation update that slipped into it which can be ignored). When you build the 'test_fb' theme, you basically get test iso 7. https://github.com/openSUSE/gfxboot/tree/chrome_fb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1530530 Title: Installer doesn't show up on some Chromebook To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gfxboot-theme-ubuntu/+bug/1530530/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1591587] [NEW] Accessing files on Android causes system crash
Public bug reported: Using 14.04.1, with all the latest upgrades Kernel: 3.16.0-73-generic Phone: Samsung Galaxy V tim@puter:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS Release:14.04 I'm doing a lot of photography and movie work with my Android phone, and the system is freezing a lot in association with that. I have never had a system freeze when I haven't had my phone plugged into USB during that session. I _have_ had numerous freezes otherwise. I also know of one other Ubuntu user in the Portland, Oregon area who is suffering similar problems. My typical work is to plug in, unmount the Verizon "CD", mount the camera, navigate to the movie folder, copy some files over to my hard drive (NOT move -- I'll explain in a bit), erase the files, unmount (or not) and unplug. I have had crashes happen at any point in the above process (it's happened once during a file move; all my pictures were erased on the camera and zero-length on this machine -- I don't move any more -- I copy and then delete). Sometimes the system just freezes. Sometimes I get the Red Linux Blink of Death on my keyboard. So, dunno what's going on other than it no work right. This does not seem to be generating automagic bug reports, so there may be many more people than me seeing it, and silently suffering. ** Affects: linux-lts-utopic (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1591587 Title: Accessing files on Android causes system crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-utopic/+bug/1591587/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1565563] Re: xdiagnose
Thank you so much for your reply of today! In between I'm running on 16.04 and it's a miracle, that I still can do my work on this installation (never change a running horse). I think a complete new install of ubuntu would cure most glitches I experience from time to time. Now next is this "outdated" bios, I have to see, how to get that updated without a glimpse of Windoze left on this machine. Thanks again, I've downloaded the links you mentioned, so next time, I'll dive into them before reporting a strange behavior, promised! [Bug 1591575] [NEW] Network Manager (nm-applet) not starting for new users
Public bug reported: Expected Behavior: New system users, after their account is created, will login and have access to networking if they have the sufficient privileges. Real Behavior: Network Manager (nm-applet) is not available in the panel for new user accounts, and manually running nm-applet does not start the network manager. I needed to create 2 accounts for different users, and gave them administrator level and also permission to create and connect to networks. But nm-applet does not autostart and do not launches running from the terminal. It simply won't say anything after running nm-applet. There's no simple way to make it run. I followed the workarounds for previous releases, such: * making sure that "indicator plugin" is active on the panel, * and, in Application Autostart tab of "session and startup" * "network" is configured to autostart, * "Indicator Application" are configured to not autostart, * added nm-applet command for it to autostart. As a system administrator I can't figure out what else should a user do to access networking. Network Manager is running for the default (1000) user. (BTW default user is connecting to WI-FI without specific permission to do it.) The new users accounts were given users ID below 1000 for they to not appear on login window. (My need is to recreate a previously used users scheme, used on ubuntu studio 10.10, with the same users ID in order to copy user's files directly without messing with file permissions.) NOTE: We are running "ubuntu desktop" sessions, after installing "ubuntu studio" packages, on a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. New users are being created on "users and gropus" option in the System category of the Whisker menu. [Bug 1591528] Re: Merge poppler 0.44.0-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
** Description changed: Please merge poppler 0.44.0-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main) Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped: === * Updated for soname change libpoppler58 -> 61 * New upstream version (soname update 57->58) * debian/patchres/revert_api_change.patch: - revert upstream commit that removed an enum, they claim it's not an abi change because it's unused, but other packages (bindings) rely on it to build still, we can drop the patch later once the redpends have been updated * Updated for soname change libpoppler56 -> 57 * Updated for soname change libpoppler52 -> 56 * Set hardening flags to "+all,-pie" to build with all hardening flags except -fPIE. * New upstream release (LP: #1449991) * Rename packages according to the new SONAMEs: - libpoppler49 -> libpoppler52 * debian/libpoppler-glib8.symbols.in: * debian/libpoppler-qt4-4.symbols.in: * debian/libpoppler-qt5-1.symbols.in: - Updated * Explicitly pass --disable-libopenjpeg now - this support was auto-disabled before but now configure fails without this flag. * Rename packages according to the new SONAMEs: - libpoppler47 -> libpoppler49 * Resynchronise with Debian, remaining changes: - Drop libopenjpeg-dev build depends, it is in universe. - Lower poppler-data to Suggests, it is too big for CD images, handled by language-selector. All of that is in the Debian package except for these: 1. Drop libopenjpeg-dev build-depends, it is in universe - We still need this dropped, except it is now libopenjp2-7-dev 2. Use --disable-libopenjpeg - Still needed 3. debian/patches/revert_api_change.patch: - Not needed, see test build results below 4. Lower poppler-data to Suggests since it's too big for CD images - Since we aren't as concerned about 1 or 2 MBs since we do DVDs instead of CDs, this seems like an obsolete change. See bug 893920 where we have language-selector install this for everyone after install anyway. $ apt show poppler-data Installed-Size: 12.4 MB Download-Size: 1,495 kB Changelog entries since current yakkety version 0.44.0-0ubuntu1: = poppler (0.44.0-3) unstable; urgency=medium * Switch from OpenJPEG 1.x to 2.x: (Closes: #826825) - replace the libopenjpeg-dev build dependency with libopenjp2-7-dev - pass --enable-libopenjpeg=openjpeg2 to configure, to be sure OpenJPEG 2.x is used -- Pino ToscanoThu, 09 Jun 2016 23:14:49 +0200 poppler (0.44.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium * Upload to unstable. That backport is attached, though some functions were moved between v1.3.1 and v1.3.3 -- I don't know if it would be preferable to carry the backport or to move Ubuntu forward to 1.3.3 or later. ** Patch added: "Backport of 9c17d665 to v1.3.1" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1574957/+attachment/4681897/+files/0001-autocreate-tap-device-for-ethernet-network-type.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574957 Title: Custom interface names with does not start qemu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1574957/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OTR is a cryptographic protocol that provides strong encryption for instant messaging conversations. The primary motivation behind the protocol was providing deniability for the conversation participants while keeping conversations confidential, like a private conversation in real life, or off the record in journalism sourcing. I have set OTR policy to Always and so has the other part I am communicating with. We both use Kubuntu 11.04 (but this was a problem in earlier versions as well). Even though we have set OTR to be used always, OTR leaks clear text messages. This is extremely troublesome, since the purpose of the software is to keep messages confidential. This happens often with the first message sent/received in a conversation, but also (seemingly) randomly during conversations. Steps to reproduce: 1: On computer A, start Kopete with OTR enabled on a Jabber account. Set OTR policy to Always. 2: On computer B, start Kopete with OTR enabled on a Jabber account. Set OTR policy to Always. 3: From A, start a conversation with person on B. 4: Notice warnings on the receiving chat window like this: (10:38:26) # The following message received from remo...@gmail.com was not encrypted: [HELLO] 5: On the sending chat window: (10:45:16) # OTR Error: You sent encrypted data to remo...@gmail.com, who wasn't expecting it. (10:45:17) # OTR connection refreshed successfully. (10:45:17) # The last message to remo...@gmail.com was resent. This only happens sometimes. I am not sure what exactly triggers this, but it is a big problem. One case that does seem to trigger it is if A starts chat with B, then B closes Kopete while A keeps chat window open. B then starts kopete and writes to A. This will often result in B's message being sent unencrypted. Reproducible: Didn't try Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdenetwork/+bug/787990/comments/1 On 2011-08-16T07:10:08+00:00 Christian Iversen wrote: Yes, I'm seeing this as well! It is really quite worrisome, as this is _exactly_ what OTR is design to prevent. [Bug 1586630] Re: Wireless card QCA6164 crashes when booting
WiFi is working with 4.7-rc2 so far. But I'm not sure if it's due to that I installed http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux- firmware_1.158_all.deb before to get the card to work. I've added the dmesg | grep ath10k for you as well. The WiFi is working with this new kernel. etecs@etecsdev:~$ dmesg | grep ath10k [ 18.087548] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: pci irq msi oper_irq_mode 2 irq_mode 0 reset_mode 0 [ 18.615816] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/pre-cal-pci-:02:00.0.bin failed with error -2 [ 18.615871] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/cal-pci-:02:00.0.bin failed with error -2 [ 19.225299] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: qca6164 hw2.1 target 0x0501 chip_id 0x003405ff sub 17aa:3545 [ 19.225305] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: kconfig debug 0 debugfs 1 tracing 1 dfs 0 testmode 0 [ 19.225692] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: firmware ver SW_RM.1.1.1-00157-QCARMSWPZ-1 api 5 features ignore-otp,no-4addr-pad crc32 10bf8e08 [ 19.306993] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: board_file api 2 bmi_id N/A crc32 f4573aa9 [ 20.478806] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: htt-ver 3.1 wmi-op 4 htt-op 3 cal otp max-sta 32 raw 0 hwcrypto 1 [ 20.620264] ath10k_pci :02:00.0 wlp2s0: renamed from wlan0 [ 39.784968] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: no channel configured; ignoring frame(s)! [Bug 1591548] Re: Bug report corrupted and broken?
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1591548/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
