Hi Christopher

Sorry for the late response. I am currently in exams period for university
and between that and work I haven't had alot of time for play. My final
exam is tomorrow so I should be able to sit down over the weekend to try
the reverse bisect. While I'm not a new linux user this is new to me so I
may have questions. Will keep you posted via the bug report.

Cheers

[Bug 1595030] Re: seccomp load failed for snap install

2016-06-21 Thread Chad Miller
This may be that some functionality isn't in the kernel in this snappy-
on-classic machine (Pandaboard hardware).

If so, the bug in snappy is that the error message is completely
useless.

[Bug 1580482] Re: Virtualbox guest additions isn't working properly in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-06-21 Thread Ron Tackaberry
"About the virtualbox-guest-dkms package, I'm not sure it is really
needed in 16.04 as xenial kernel already packs virtualbox's guest
modules(you can lsmod it even without installing the package)"

Actually, I had the same problem. Installing this package solved it.
Error gone and pasting and screen resize is now working fine.

Thanks for the help.

[Bug 1595023] Re: Need to determine if snap apps require terminal or not

2016-06-21 Thread Robert Ancell
I was also considering if it made sense to report the graphical
backend(s) that the app would use, i.e.

"apps": [{"name": "moon-buggy", "backend"s: ["mir", "x11"]}]

But I think that most apps actually don't care / know - they use a
toolkit and have no idea what backend it uses.

Reading the .desktop spec [1] the key they use is "Terminal". So perhaps
this is worth matching:

"apps": [{"name": "moon-buggy", "terminal": true}]

[Bug 1536353] Re: [regression] Printer drivers install is broken as lsb package is not available anymore

2016-06-21 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

  [SRU justification]
Previous releases were compatible with third-party printer drivers provided
in LSB package format (and also as .deb packages depending on the lsb package).
As of 16.04, because the LSB specifies ABIs for various libraries that are no
longer supported in Ubuntu as obsolete, the packages for the lsb modules have
been dropped in both Debian and Ubuntu. This includes dropping of lsb-core,
which is the component which provides the LSB-mandated ELF loader path -
without which no lsb executable will work.

This SRU will restore the bare minimum of LSB compatibility necessary to
support known third-party LSB printer driver packages on Ubuntu 16.04.

  [Regression potential]
The reintroduced 'lsb' binary package is known to not fully satisfy the
requirements for a complete LSB-compliant system. This is a regression vs.
Ubuntu 14.04; so anyone using LSB packages on Ubuntu 14.04 who upgrades to
Ubuntu 16.04 may have the upgrade succeed without any warning from the package
manager.

As there are very few lsb packages in use in the wild, this is
considered an acceptable regression, especially as this will land before
  the first 16.04 point release.

  [Test case]
  1. Download the epsion 201106w printer driver package from
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/op/stable/debian/dists/lsb3.2/main/binary-amd64/epson-inkjet-printer-201106w_1.0.1-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
  2. Install the package and confirm that its dependencies are not satisfiable.
  3. Enable xenial-proposed.
  4. Install the package again and confirm that the dependencies are satisfied.
- 5. Verify that any executables within the package can be run without errors
about missing lsb ld.so.
+ 5. Verify that
/opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201106w/cups/lib/filter/epson_inkjet_printer_filter
can be run without errors about missing lsb ld.so or missing libraries.

Starting with Xenial, lsb compatibility packages were dropped (besides
  lsb-release and lsb-base):

  lsb (9.20150826) unstable; urgency=low

    * Drop all the LSB compatibility packages besides lsb-release and lsb-base
  - Drop packages-availability checking in lsb-release
  - Truncate README.Debian to a minimum
  - Document this in lsb-base.NEWS.Debian
    * Change the versioning number to avoid any ambiguity; use joeyh's
version.date, with version being Debian next stable's

   -- Didier Raboud Wed, 26 Aug 2015 12:00:00 +0200

The problem is that downloadable printer drivers (like the ones from
Openprinting, but also from other available providers) that are
suggested when installing a printer on Ubuntu depends on lsb, which is
  not available anymore:

  epson-inkjet-printer-201106w:
Dépend: lsb (>=3.2) but it is not installable

This triggers a regression where it is not possible to setup a printer
this way (downloading a driver where no local driver is available)
  anymore.

  I see two possible solutions:

  - Add a proper replaces field to one of the remaining lsb-* packages, to
hopefully fix missing lsb package (maybe it would be useful to also
replace other compability packages that are not built anymore).

  - Re-introduce LSB compatibility packages, but that might be an
  overkill.

[Bug 1593357] Re: Software app should not show command-line only snaps

Re-reading the desktop spec, you are correct in that we should show
launchable apps (currently determined by having .desktop files). The
desktop spec allows terminal apps with the key Terminal=true.

[Bug 1595023] [NEW] Need to determine if snap apps require terminal or not

2016-06-21 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

snapd returns a list of apps a snap contains, i.e:

"apps": [{"name": "moon-buggy"}]

However, we can't tell if this is a terminal app (like moon buggy) or a
graphical app (like Ubuntu calculator).

[Bug 1595023] Re: Need to determine if snap apps require terminal or not

2016-06-21 Thread Robert Ancell
A potential solution:

"apps": [{"name": "moon-buggy", "graphical": false}]

Not sure if this can be easily determined from the snapd metadata.

[Bug 1595021] [NEW] Backport dh-golang 1.13 to trusty

2016-06-21 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
We want to backport docker and related packages to Trusty. The dh-golang in
trusty is too old and lacks features used by the packages we want to backport
(particularly the support for the DH_GOLANG_BUILDPKG and DH_GOLANG_EXCLUDES
variables to control which packages are built, but also the support for reading
the Go import path from the control file).

dh-golang is up to version 1.18 in sid/yakkety now but that causes 1
package (ngrok) in trusty to ftbfs. 1.13 seems to be a sweet spot in
terms of having features and fixes we need but not breaking any packages
in trusty.

[Test case]
In fact, there is already a package in trusty that uses tries to use the newer
features and has a bug as a result: golang-logrus builds an _all
golang-logrus-dev package that contains a i386 binary:

mwhudson@aeglos:~/tmp$ lintian
golang-logrus-dev_0.7.3-1~ubuntu0.14.04.1_all.deb
E: golang-logrus-dev: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object
usr/bin/basic

So a test case would be to rebuild this package and see if this lintian
error goes away.

[Regression potential]
There is obviously some potential for regressions here, but I've rebuilt all
reverse dependencies of dh-golang in trusty twice, once with the version of
dh-golang in trusty:

https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+archive/ubuntu/trusty-go-rebuilds

and once with a backport of dh-golang 1.13:

https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+archive/ubuntu/trusty-go-rebuilds-
dh-golang-2

I debmirror-ed both PPAs and compared the results (with find and
debdiff). Apart from fixing the above bug in golang-logrus, the only
differences are in golang-doozer, golang-openldap, and golang-
goprotobuf-dev and are down to the fact that dh-golang now by default
includes .proto, .c and .s files in -dev packages. This is at worst
harmless and quite possibly would make the packages more useful.

[Bug 1509031] Re: can no longer alt-drag firefox/thunderbird windows above top of screen

2016-06-21 Thread Andrew Skalski
I tested by applying the patch against the current Ubuntu Xenial release
version of the metacity package (metacity_3.18.4-0ubuntu0.3). I can
confirm the patch fixes the regression (it allows me to drag my Firefox
and Thunderbird windows above the top of the screen.) So far, I have
encountered no new regressions.

I also tried building metacity git master, but ran into several unmet
dependencies (newer versions of gtk+/glib than what I have installed),
so I was unable to complete that test.

Thanks for looking into this!

[Bug 1593840] Re: Sync graphviz 2.38.0-14 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-06-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
graphviz 2.38.0-13ubuntu1 (not your upload) is currently stuck in
-proposed because that new version depends on gts which is in universe
but graphviz is in main.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/graphviz/2.38.0-13ubuntu1

Therefore, gts will need a MIR or you'll need to revert building with
GTS.

Manthis, there are two workarounds available. The nmcli definately
works, but you need to know your SSID, for instance I have a SSID for my
phone access point which I can manually connect to when I encounter this

Re: [Bug 1571865] Re: mysql fails to start after upgrade if previous defaults were customised

2016-06-21 Thread Stephen Baker
I had spent a few hours on this with no resolution. Even with the mysql
service running as root, it failed to get permissions to write to a data
directory other than /var/lib/mysql (or whatever the default is if that's
wrong). Even with apparmor configured to allow the new data directory, and
even in complain mode, it still failed to read/write files in the new
datadir or couldn't open a socket.

My fix was moving my data to the location; mounting a device to
/var/lib/mysql.

[Bug 1587853] Re: Canon Lide 110 scanner does not work with xsane, simple scan, gscan2pdf but works with vuescan

2016-06-21 Thread Satyapriyananda
I suggest get rid off xsane, simple-scan and gscan2pdf using sudo apt
purge xsane etc.

Scanimage does a good job.

Use sane-find-scanner to find the scanner.

Use scanimage -L to find what make the scanner is.

Use scanimage -A to find which parameters go with the scanner you have.

Use SANE_DEBUG_DLL=5 scanimage -L to do a bit of debugging, if needed.

Somehow simple-scan works on some other machines with Ubuntu 16.04.

[Bug 1595017] [NEW] u-wallpapers include Creative Commons v2 licenses which are controversial

2016-06-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu Wallpapers for 15.10 include Creative Commons version 2
licensed photos.

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-art-pkg/ubuntu-
wallpapers/ubuntu/revision/166

This is in contrast to what was in debian/copyright up until that point
and what I believe the guidelines say:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/Backgrounds

There's good reason to have version 3 of Creative Commons by the minimum
standard.

It is widely believe in Debian that version 2 isn't good enough.
(Version 1 is definitively believed to have not been DFSG-compatible).

See

https://wiki.debian.org/DFSGLicenses#Creative_Commons_Attribution_Share-
Alike_.28CC-BY-SA.29_v4.0

And see bug 1588938 as just one example, where Debian developers
reported the issue with CC version 2 files to the GNOME developers who
replaced the images in the new release.

To summarize, Creative Commons version 2 licenses should be avoided in
Ubuntu because they are mostly avoided in Debian.

[Bug 1594585] Re: [needs packaging] budgie-wallpapers

2016-06-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Hi, I took a look at this and there are some issues.

First, the version number for an Ubuntu package is wrong. I would suggest you
follow Ubuntu's example and use 16.04.0-0ubuntu1.
- The 16.04 is because you wrote in your intro that these are actually the
xenial wallpapers.
- The .0 is because you cannot change the original tarball but have to use a
different version number each time. -1 would be the first Debian release. -2
would be the 2nd. -0ubuntu1 is a Ubuntu package where there wasn't a Debian
release for that version or the Debian release wasn't used.

Second and most importantly, according to your debian/copyright, you
have images which are *not* redistributable in Ubuntu. You cannot use
any Creative Commons *Non-Commercial* license.

The Debian wiki is unclear about the status of CC version 2 licenses.
Versions 3 and 4 are fine. Version 1 is not. It's commonly believed in
Debian that the version 2 licenses aren't good enough. See bug 1588938
for instance where the Debian maintainers reported the issue to GNOME
developers who replaced the version 2 pictures.

Therefore, I recommend you try to find images that don't use CC version
2 licenses either just to be safe and it would be a huge headache to try
to replace them once they are in use on people's computers.

Third, I recommend you look at the ubuntu-wallpapers packaging how they
have separate packages for each Ubuntu release. So Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial)
users have ubuntu-wallpapers installed which depends on ubuntu-
wallpapers-xenial. If they upgraded from 15.10, they'll also have
ubuntu-wallpapers-wily installed. They can optionally install wallpapers
from any or all releases going back to karmic.

Fourth, in your .xml.in files you can use spaces in the name field. The
name is for wallpaper choosers that show a name for each photo. The
names are in that file so translators can translate them into other
languages.

I'm unsubscribing ~ubuntu-sponsors. Feel free to re-subscribe -sponsors
when you're ready for sponsorship again.

[Bug 1574904] Re: Old clients cannot talk to Docker in 16.04

2016-06-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello vinc...@rancher.com, or anyone else affected,

Accepted docker.io into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/docker.io/1.11.2-0ubuntu4~16.04 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1594989] Re: Turn off screen after n minutes does not work in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-06-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1594989/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1594871] Re: Sync up latest relevant upstream bug fixes

2016-06-21 Thread Richard Laager
I believe it was on IRC. I think the suggestion was that it may be
appropriate for ZoL. I wasn't sure if it was already in the works or
not. Given that this is news to you, I assume nobody has applied for
one.

I realize we don't want new features. I'm not suggesting always syncing
from the Ubuntu development release. I'm suggesting pulling in ZoL micro
releases only. If upstream ZoL stops cutting micro releases for the
minor that is in a particular released version of Ubuntu, then it'd be
back to backporting. It just so happens at this moment that what is in
Yakkety is just a micro upgrade from what is in Xenial.

[Bug 1594993] [NEW] Sync libphp-adodb 5.20.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-06-21 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Public bug reported:

Please sync libphp-adodb 5.20.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Update to PHP7.0 dependencies (LP: #1544352).
[ Fixed in 5.20.3-2 ]
  * Update mysqli driver for PHP7.
[ Fixed upstream in 5.20.4 ]
  * Drop mysql and mysqlt drivers as they are not suported on PHP7.
[ Debian has chosen to minimize the upstream changes, so these
drivers may exist, but just shouldn't be used (upstream
maintaining backwards compatibility). It's not worth us keeping a
  delta. ]

Changelog entries since current yakkety version 5.20.3-1ubuntu1:

libphp-adodb (5.20.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version.
  * Drop d/patches/mysqli_allow_port_as_string.
  * Drop d/doc-base and d/patches/privacy_html_external_img: Upstream no longer
provides documentation in the package.

libphp-adodb (5.20.3-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Switched to git. Updated d/control Vcs fields.
  * New patch mysqli_allow_port_as_string to fix mysqli DSN support. Thanks
Nishanth Aravamudan.
  * Priorized php7 dependencies.
  * Updated upstream homepage address.
  * Bumped policy to 3.9.7. No change required.
  * Refreshed README.Debian for php7 and apache2.4.

[Bug 1536353] Re: [regression] Printer drivers install is broken as lsb package is not available anymore

2016-06-21 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

+ [SRU justification]
+ Previous releases were compatible with third-party printer drivers provided
in LSB package format (and also as .deb packages depending on the lsb package).
+
+ This SRU will restore the bare minimum of LSB compatibility necessary to
+ support known third-party LSB printer driver packages on Ubuntu 16.04.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ The reintroduced 'lsb' binary package is known to not fully satisfy the
requirements for a complete LSB-compliant system. This is a regression vs.
Ubuntu 14.04; so anyone using LSB packages on Ubuntu 14.04 who upgrades to
Ubuntu 16.04 may have the upgrade succeed without any warning from the package
manager.
+
+ As there are very few lsb packages in use in the wild, this is
+ considered an acceptable regression, especially as this will land before
+ the first 16.04 point release.
+
+ [Test case]
+
Starting with Xenial, lsb compatibility packages were dropped (besides
  lsb-release and lsb-base):

  lsb (9.20150826) unstable; urgency=low

    * Drop all the LSB compatibility packages besides lsb-release and lsb-base
  - Drop packages-availability checking in lsb-release
  - Truncate README.Debian to a minimum
  - Document this in lsb-base.NEWS.Debian
    * Change the versioning number to avoid any ambiguity; use joeyh's
version.date, with version being Debian next stable's

  - Re-introduce LSB compatibility packages, but that might be an
  overkill.

[Bug 1479136] Re: [ubuntu 14.04.2] Artefacts in radeon driver on kernel 3.16 and upwards

2016-06-21 Thread thom
Before I forget:

What can I do to get the patch incorporated in the current LTS release ?
(Xenial 16.04)
According to Christian König the patch is backwards compatible with the 4.x
series kernels.

I've tested it (compiled against 4.4.0.26) and it works without problem.

Who do I have to contact to get this patch into the current 4.4 series ?
