[Bug 1602941] [NEW] Draw cannot be loaded in 16.04 (Repackage needed since gcl has changed?)

2016-07-13 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

In 16.04

 load ("draw");

according for example to
https://sourceforge.net/p/maxima/mailman/message/35219237/ seems to fail for
some users. If maxima is compiled from source there is no problem => It seems
like gcl has changed after maxima was packaged which broke compilation => A
no-changes-rebuild of the package might fix the problem.

** Affects: maxima (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 1587320] Re: munpack randomly saves attachment in folder hierarchy instead of single file

2016-07-13 Thread kenlo
A quick fix is to disallow subdirectories. Just comment out this block
in function os_newtypedfile

/* Clean out bad characters, create directories along path */
for (p=fname; *p; p++) {
/*if (*p == '/') {
if (!strncmp(p, "/../", 4)) {
p[1] = p[2] = 'X';
}
*p = '\0';
(void) mkdir(fname, 0777);
*p = '/';
}
else*/ if (!isprint(*p) || strchr(BADCHARS, *p)) *p = 'X';
}

Note the /* before line 3 and the */ after "else" in line 11.

[Bug 1602813] Re: openvpn-auth-ldap causing segfault on network timeout

2016-07-13 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
@Foxpass Dev - for the coming activity it would be really helpful if you could
write up a minimal setup procedure how to get from a new install to an
environment showing the bug.
That would help testing and verification to get this bug fixed in the packaging
(for Debian as well as for Ubuntu).

[Bug 1602813] Re: openvpn-auth-ldap causing segfault on network timeout

2016-07-13 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Here a little triaging summary:
The project itself seems rather abandoned, at least not with a high update
frequency.
I checked the patch a bit in Detail and found two related upstream commits:

of 2012 to fix the first
https://github.com/threerings/openvpn-auth-ldap/commit/2d1568c384eee51e907d93eec7f4dc263de602d2

and of 2015 to fix the second occurance of the issue
https://github.com/threerings/openvpn-auth-ldap/pull/53/commits/182544cd7cfadf8e6918ce56d75a5c7735f126c2

The second is only a pull request and not yet merged into
https://github.com/threerings/openvpn-auth-
ldap/blame/master/src/TRLDAPConnection.m

That way following the usual procedure we can't start on an Xenial SRU right
away but have to bring it into the Development release first. See #1 in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

IMHO, since this package has no Ubuntu delta so far and seems rather
un-maintained (or at least un-updated) it might be worth pushing this fix to
Debian first. Then sync into Yakkety, and then go for an SRU.
On the good side, the patch is small and reasonable. I'd leave it to Robie
Basak who already was on the mail thread starting this to decide how to proceed.

preexisting repos and the issue is resolved. I didn't see an update for the

[Bug 1573755] Re: Compose and dead keys stopped working

2016-07-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I can reproduce this XIM problem on a system which was upgraded to
16.04, but not on a fresh Ubuntu 16.04. However: If I create and switch
to a new user, the problem is not present. In other words: Some
leftovers from previous version(s) in the home directory of my main user
prevent the XIM input method from working properly.

Resetting the gtk-im-module gsettings key, as mentioned by Piotr,
doesn't help for me. Neither does removing of the whole gsettings
database ~/.config/dconf/user

For the record: On Ubuntu and most flavors, switching to some other
input method can be done from the Language Support GUI. Doing so changes
the ~/.xinputrc file instead of removing it.

[Bug 1493574] Re: [vegeta] Phone app makes screen stay black during call (so you can't hang up)

2016-07-13 Thread Lorn Potter
In #46, there is a difference of an ALS entry. (Pat's does not have one, while
the one containing
an error has one) but the error is contained in the ALS/PS, while LHJ_PS looks
normal. These functions that look like they pertain to calibration.

As in the log from #45 seems to point to ALS/PS reading from mt-i2c, it
could originate in the hardware, but the software doesn't recover.
Whether that software is the driver, android sensors or powerd or
something else would require digging through the code. My guess is the
(als) driver doesn't handle this well.

It is interesting that this seems to happen on krillin as well, but
apparently not all devices. I'm not familiar enough with these to
devices to know if they use the same als/ps chip or share driver code.

[Bug 1602628] Re: can't drag/move window if it's semi-maximized

2016-07-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Semi-maximization works, and windows are still draggable if you use the
traditional middle/right click on the maximize button.

What you're doing though isn't really semi-maximize.
Ctrl+Super+Left/Right means to fill half the screen. So it might be an
intentional design decision that state is not movable.

I know this is different to how it works in Unity7, but it might not be
a bug.

[Bug 1602051] Re: 5Ghz link no longer works on 16.04 - iwlwifi

2016-07-13 Thread David Martinka
note: just to be 100% clear, I installed the new kernel via apt install
/path/to/linux-*.deb where I D/L'd the three *amd64 kernel packages,
then rebooted - I'm fairly familiar with installing a newer kernel on
Ubuntu.

[Bug 1536751] Re: Font/text rendering is irregular and not pixel-aligned on low DPI screens

2016-07-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When it's fully extended the fonts look bad. So this is not a texture
coordinate problem. I think the surface texture is correctly pixel
aligned but we haven't yet made sure the font hinting within the surface
is also pixel-aligned. Unity7 text still looks nicer and more polished
than Unity8.

[Bug 1602051] Re: 5Ghz link no longer works on 16.04 - iwlwifi

2016-07-13 Thread David Martinka
@Seth - first off thanks for assisting here. :)

Unfortunately no improvement after installing the 4.7-rc7 kernel. Tried
the usual options in the iwlwifi.conf (11n_disable=8, bt coexistence)
but various degrees of worse performance.

Regarding older firmware - after further testing, I was incorrect about
the older firmware working better. It was only easier to connect, and a
little more stable, but still crumpled under any real load. Almost like
the radio was reaching a saturation point under load...?

I've never rolled back to an older kernel than the release ships with -
is that even possible, or would it just break a bunch of things...?

If things worked with the same firmware and kernel I was running on
15.10, it might be a useful data point... not that I really want to go
backwards. :)

[Bug 1551747] Re: ubuntu-fan causes issues during network configuration

2016-07-13 Thread Eliezer Croitoru
@Mark, @Uli:
Testing the problematic state would be to install docker.io and enable it ie:
apt install docker.io
systemctl enable docker

To test:
reboot
ifdown ens3 && echo "OK"
ifup ens3 && echo "OK"

The test commands will result in two lines with OK at the end if everything is
right.
On ubuntu-fan 0.9.0 an interface with dhcp receives an ip but the interface
won't show as in up state and the command exits with an exit code higher then 0.
The commands seems to work fine after the update.

[Bug 1581241] Re: bluetooth headset doesn't automatically configure for a2dp correctly (regression)

2016-07-13 Thread Ethan Blanton
I have isolated a method for making things work, for others who may have
similar problems:

1) Connect headset by turning it on.
2) Set headset to headset (not a2dp) mode using blueman-manager
3) Disconnect headset from blueman-manager
4) Reconnect headset from blueman-manager; it will show Audio Profile: off
5) Set audio profile to A2DP

At this point, it generally seems to work. Shorter sequences have not
yet reliably worked for me. Some parts of the dance can be done in
pavucontrol, but it's easiest to do it all in one place.

[Bug 1602904] [NEW] Application menus go off screen the first time they are displayed

2016-07-13 Thread Gary Houston
Public bug reported:

Using the bookmarks menu in Firefox, when going to a nested bookmark (3
deep) the menu always opens partly off the right edge of my screen, but
only on the first time the menu is displayed. If the menu is closed and
then reopened, it appears to the left of the previous menu so will be
visible.

Details: Menus are displayed in the application window title bar.
Firefox is not full screen, and displayed on the right half of my
monitor. Each level of bookmark menus opens to the right of the
previous, and the third level is only just visible with most of the text
off the right edge of the screen.

What should happen: when the menu is opened the 2nd time, it's fine,
it's on the screen to the left of the previous menu. The same thing
should happen the first time its opened.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-07-13 Thread Mario Steele
Attempts to use 2:2.99.917+git20160706-1ubuntu1 on my Asus S550CA, with
Intel Ivybridge Video card, did not resolve the issue with the mouse
dis-appearing. I've also attempted to remove the xserver-xorg-video-
intel package, and resort to using X.org's modesetting to see if that
would resolve the issue, and it does not. This is on Elementary OS 0.4
(Loki).

[Bug 1602900] [NEW] libzmq3 crashes when 'getifaddrs()' is unavailable

2016-07-13 Thread Adam Seering
Public bug reported:

libzmq3 crashes when used on a computer where the kernel is unable to
provide any information about network-device addresses.

This is uncommon with normal Ubuntu configurations. But is currently
always the case with Ubuntu as run under the new Windows Subsystem for
Linux.

This has already been diagnosed and fixed upstream:
https://github.com/jupyter/notebook/issues/1331

I have backported the fix; an updated package (based on the stock Ubuntu 14.04
package but with the backport as an added patch) is available in this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~aseering/+archive/ubuntu/wsl

This has been reported in a couple other bugtrackers. Even with the fix in a
PPA, there's still some amount of user confusion:
https://github.com/jupyter/notebook/issues/1331
https://github.com/Microsoft/BashOnWindows/issues/185

It would be great if this fix could be pulled into Ubuntu 14.04
directly, so that people stop hitting this bug.

[Bug 1602901] [NEW] [Regression] Panel/Dash background corruption with multimon

2016-07-13 Thread Tasos Sahanidis
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 16.04 with the updates repository enabled, using the
Nvidia proprietary driver 367.27.

A couple of days ago there was a Unity update (7.4.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1)
which includes a commit that causes graphical glitches/corruption on the
background of Unity panel in my triple monitor (xrandr) setup.
The result differs depending on which monitor the Panel/Dash is opened on.

Specifically, on one monitor there is a horizontal offset on the background, on
the second one there is garbage and on the third one there is no background at
all, making Unity completely see-through.
Additionally, when transparent, the top bar is also affected.

After downloading the source code and compiling Unity from different
commits, I have reached the conclusion that the commit which introduced
the issue is #4145 from trunk (https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-
team/unity/trunk/revision/4145).

The following links demonstrate the issue, as well as show the exact
point where the regression started occurring.

[Bug 1602605] Re: Ambigous dialogue box when running update-secureboot-policy

2016-07-13 Thread Steve Langasek
This wording is deliberate. The way that shim+mok works, when you make
this change, shim will willingly chainload anything you point it at.
This is functionally indistinguishable, security-wise, from disabling
Secure Boot in the firmware; it's just that by using MOK we're able to
do so in a way that's guided and consistent across all systems.
Describing this in terms of the technical details of MOK would be
confusing for users, and make it harder for them to understand the key
point that making this change disables the protection of Secure Boot.

The current wording has also been reviewed by the Design Team, passing
muster with both them and Foundations.

So we don't intend to change this dialog to talk about MOK. Closing
wontfix.
