[Bug 853849] Re: Update Fails due to btrfs not being able to take a snapshot

2016-08-02 Thread Damiön la Bagh
The machine from 2011 has been decommissioned but I still have it in
storage. I will try to replicate this bug this weekend using a similar
setup as I see the original FSTAB in this bug-report.

[Bug 1609242] [NEW] Kernel 4.4x results in blackscreen - Intel Ivybridge

2016-08-02 Thread harry
Public bug reported:

When I install Ubuntu 16.04 on my computer the screen goes blank at
login. I can blindly login and it boots but I cannot use the display
(external monitor through HDMI).

I've looked online for an answer to this issue but could not find a
solution. However, many people report this issue in forums with the
4.4x kernel.

On my main computer, I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04.1. On this computer
I was able to switch back to the 3.13 kernel which *does work*.

On the same computer, if I use a 16.04 live CD, it does the same thing.
The screen goes blank.

UEFI may be part of the issue as well. I have it disabled in bios (set
to legacy mode) but when I first boot, it seems to go into UEFI mode
first and then, after rebooting with it shows me the
list of kernels. I can select the kernel from there but if I use a 4.4x
kernel, it blanks out at encryption passphrase screen.

There are also people with similar issues on AskUbuntu.

Here's some basic HW info. If you require more, please ask.

[Bug 1609236] [NEW] cannot change keyboard language when entering password after screen-saver lock

2016-08-02 Thread Alex Athanasopoulos
Public bug reported:

When the screen locks from inactivity and the keyboard text entry is not
English, I cannot change it back to English, so I cannot enter my
password (which is in latin characters). The language widget is non-
operable. The "switch to next source" key combination doesn't work
either.

Workaround: If I press enough keys ("Ctl-Alt-Del", I think), the screen
flashes (redraws) and then I can use the language widget to change the
language to English.

detailed description:
I installed Ubuntu 16.04 desktop recently and left the default settings for the
screen saver (turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity and lock the screen). I
have added Greek keyboard.
Because of the short screen saver time, I find the screen frequently locks. If
the keyboard is set to Greek, before the screen locked (e.g. because I was
writing a letter in Greek), then it is still Gr in the lock screen. The
language widget menu is not responding.

The language widget works properly if I lock the screen from the power/login
menu (top right corner).
My text entry settings has "Use the same source for all windows" checked.

[Bug 1227824] Re: please add trust-store integration to e-d-s for calendar API

2016-08-02 Thread Kugi Eusebio
This bug is quite old and I think in need of urgency.
There are apps that would like to use the calendar API like Alarm and Reminders
but cannot because of this bug (me included :) ).
Also, the documentation in the developer site needs to indicate that developers
cannot freely use them as of the moment. The Alarm and AlarmModel have been
listed in the components and there's no mention that the calendar policy is
needed and that it is still in "reserved" status.

[Bug 1495667] Re: home button on arale stays active when screen is locked

2016-08-02 Thread Olof Rydberg
This bug has become a big problem for me.

The home button also serves to wake the phone up and show the lock screen.
I prefer to have the notification drawer available when the device is locked
but due to this bug the phone wakes up in my pocket.

Then some of the following things randomly happen:
- The phone tries to unlock, gets the wrong pin a couple of times and I get
locked out for 5 minutes.
- Some random stuff in the notification drawer gets changed, often sound is
muted or the phone is set to airplane mode.
- The phone tries to use the emergency call function, which has failed so far
due to incorrect number or because I have noticed it in time, quite nasty
anyway.

I consider each and every one of these problems quite severe and the bug
effectively removes or at least cripples the lock screen function and
makes it unreliable.

This often happens when I have the phone in the pocket with the screen
against my leg, which is the way I prefer to carry it as the screen is
then protected against corners of tables and stuff like that.

[Bug 1609087] Re: Ubuntu docker images should create /run/container_type & /run/systemd/container

2016-08-02 Thread Billy Olsen
I'm not so sure this is really a bug against docker itself or the
packaging within Ubuntu necessarily. The two files mentioned are
generated either by upstart (/run/container_type) or by systemd
(/run/systemd/container). The 'official' ubuntu images don't appear to
run with either one as the containers in docker are focused around
isolating an application not an entire system. If the application
deployed to a docker container requires the systemd or upstart services,
then one would expect the service to be running as part of the image,
however I suspect most services running within a docker container don't
need those files.

If you are wanting to determine that you are running within a docker
container, you could check the existence of a /.dockerenv file.

Re: [Bug 1608759] Re: package shim-signed (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-08-02 Thread tom burkhardt
hi, thanks for all the responses, and so quickly. As a noobie, I really
appreciate it.

The install crash reported here ... I think I've figured out.

My pc has a SSD C:/ drive which houses my MS Windows 7 Professional system.
It also has a 2TBi hard drive which I've been using for linux.

Due to mistakes on my part, the previous linux (ubuntu 14.04.1) system
crashed, and I decided to bite the bullet and re-install, but while I
was at it, chose ubuntu 16.04.

That install is the one that crashed.

What was different:
(1) version 16.04 vs 14.04
(2)decided to partition the linux drive in half with two ext4 partitions
plus a SWAP partition vs last time everything on one ext4 drive.

After the crash in this report, I did another new format + clean
install, which then refused to boot up.

Logged on via GNOME terminal, did a sudo apt GRUB purge, and apt
update&clean&upgrade, then a fresh apt GRUB2 install.

Pretty sure the error lay at my end. The install was done from a UEFI
DVD. The previous ubuntu14.04 installation was done that way and had
worked, but threw a constant Error message every time it was booted.
That has now stopped.
Pretty sure the boot sector on the C: drive is BIOS/EFI, which may have
caused interference.
This time I still used a UEFI DVD, and did the re-install of GRUB on my
2TBi, D: drive, set that as 1st boot priority. That works fine now too
with no error messages.

All is now well.
My apologies if I've wasted your time; I only sent in the report because
of the pop-up suggesting I do so. Definitely on a learning curve here,
and appreciate your help.

[Bug 1609215] Re: Merge grilo-plugins 0.3.2-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-08-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This update is needed to finish the grilo 0.3 transition which was
started a while ago. For xenial, it was decided to revert the "port the
Apple trailer plugin from C to Lua" commit. It would take a lot of work
to port that patch forward to the new grilo 0.3 API.

One option is to just let the Apple trailer plugin fall to the -extra
plugins. The downside is that there would only be one channel in the
Videos app (totem)'s Channel tab: Rai.tv. See bug 1570157.

An alternative, with patches here, is to go ahead and move the lua
plugins to the -base plugins package. This way, the Videos app gets all
5 channels (Guardian, iTunes Podcast, Euronews, Apple Movie Trailers and
Rai.tv).

[Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher

2016-08-02 Thread pepa65
Set the user to be a SystemUser in /var/lib/AccountsService/users works.
I would be more interested in a whitelist feature, so newly created unworthy
users don't have to be blacklisted.

Why is there not a simple requirement like: only members of the lightdm
group are allowed to use lightdm??

[Bug 1609209] [NEW] Disable signature validation on shim without user interactions under secureboot enabled

2016-08-02 Thread Ivan Hu
Public bug reported:

In some secureboot enabled machines, after update to kernel 3.19 without
disabling the secureboot. It causes the some DKMS (for example, kernel
wireless and audio) won't work, because it forces the kernel and modules
need to be signed.

Considering that the end users don't have enough knowledge to use
"mokutil" to disable the shim signature validation, provide a way to
disable signature validation on shim without user interactions.

MokSBStateSet.efi - UEFI shell application to set two variables
(MokSBState and MokSBStateRT) which disable signature validation on
shim. It should be signed with Ubuntu key.

shim_dis_validation.sh - create a bootentry and set bootnext to it. This
bootentry will boot to shim and then base on loadoption (second stage
boot on shim) to execute MokSBStateSet.efi. That's why MokSBStateSet.efi
need to be signed and key must be in the MOK database under secureboot
enabled. MOK database already has canonical key, so MokSBStateSet.efi
should be signed with Ubuntu key, so that users don't do anything to
import key to MOK database.

[Execute]
Put MokSBStateSet-signed.efi and shim_dis_validation.sh in the same folder
#sudo sh shim_dis_validation.sh

[Test case]
1. Get the signed MokSBStateSet.efi, MokSBStateSet-signed.efi
2. impoll key to MOK database, this is not necessary if MokSBStateSet.efi
signed with canonical key
   # mokutil --import MOK.cer
3. sudo sh shim_dis_validation.sh
4. check the DKMS funcitons

[Potential issue]
Shim has a bug and cause the shim second stage fail and a fix with it,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1581299
Will need to change the loadoption data on shim_dis_validation.sh according to
the shim version in the future releases.

[Todo]
MokSBStateSet.efi need to be signed with Canonical key.

2016-08-02 Thread AceLan Kao

BIOS should switch to the new way while detecting there is a driver which
supports it, but in this case, BIOS switches to the new way no matter there is
a driver for it or not. And once this case happens, the power button emits the
keyevent only after pressing it for 6 seconds.
To fix it, we need this driver to be loaded and emits the keyevent once it's
pressed.

2016-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1536279 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1536279

Oh, I see. This is an old bug and it's very annoying -- some of us are
used to working around it by tapping Ctrl and Alt.

It's just a bug in that Mir doesn't know the modifier state after VT-
switching. So regular key presses don't work till you tap those
modifiers again. Duplicate of bug 1536279

[Bug 1608342] Re: Add a scope to expose native GTK apps (without Xmir)

2016-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I half expected that answer. Just want people to start thinking about it
now.

We could curate the list by hand, as apps are found/fixed to be working.
Alternatively we could add a switch to eliminate the confinement
limitations so people can run arbitrary legacy software (and there will
be more demands for that, so be ready for it).

[Bug 1565236] Re: AltGr not working on external keyboards

2016-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oh I see sorry.

Sometimes a bug needs all the tasks fixed to be fixed. Sometimes a bug
needs only one of its tasks fixed and this is one such case.

So yeah, Fix Relesaed in OTA-12 and the continuing issues should be
discussed in bug 1607237.

[Bug 1604936] Re: Please document command-line options with --help and when called incorrectly

2016-08-02 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ update-secureboot-policy did not include any help text.
+
+ [Test case]
+ - verify 'sudo update-secureboot-policy' works as expected (prompts to
disable Secure Boot if it's enabled)
+ - verify 'sudo update-secureboot-policy --disable' works as expected (same as
above)
+ - verify 'sudo update-secureboot-policy --enable' re-enables Secure Boot
after it has been disabled (ie. after a run with --disable and a reboot)
+ - verify 'update-secureboot-policy --help' displays help text.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ None. The default behavior without a parameter remains to try to disable
Secure Boot if it's not already disabled. --enable is documented behind a new
parameter --help which displays usage information.
+
+ ---
+
Subject says it all. Having to read the source to discover --enable was
irksome. There should probably also be an opposite explicit --disable.

[Bug 1595611] Re: Improve prompting for Secure Boot password

2016-08-02 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ On install and upgrade, shim-signed prompts users for disabling Secure Boot
if DKMS packages are installed. The prompting was confusing, hard to see, and
defaulted to not disabling Secure Boot.
+
+ [Test case]
+ (re-enable Secure Boot if necessary: 'sudo mokutil --enable-validation' and
reboot)
+ 1) Update shim-signed on a system with dkms packages installed, where Secure
Boot is enabled.
+ Verify that as a first step you see an explanation of why you see the prompt
(Secure Boot is enabled and you have third-party drivers).
+
+ Also:
+ Test upgrade from other release with DKMS packages installed, where Secure
Boot is enabled; verify that you are prompted to disable Secure Boot, that the
Disable Secure Boot checkbox is checked by default, and that you see an
explanation text as a first step.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This changes the default selection for disabling Secure Boot (picked by
default), so quickly hitting "Next" will now move to prompting for the Secure
Boot password to disable validation in shim; this breaks any users relying on
blindly ignoring the prompts. Disabling Secure Boot will reduce the security of
the system since it is no longer verified by UEFI signatures past loading the
shim bootloader. In a true regression potential; should there be an issue with
the prompting workflow in debconf, the usage of the debconf frontend may be
impacted (for example, some particular frontend of debconf may fail (readline?))
+
+ ---
+
Current strings in debconf templates for asking for a Secure Boot
  password are suboptimal:

  Template: shim/secureboot_key
  Type: password
  _Description: Password:
- Please enter a password for disabling Secure Boot. It will be asked again
- after a reboot.
-
+  Please enter a password for disabling Secure Boot. It will be asked again
+  after a reboot.
+
  Template: shim/secureboot_key_again
  Type: password
  _Description: Re-enter password to verify:
- Please enter the same password again to verify you have typed it correctly.
+  Please enter the same password again to verify you have typed it correctly.

This would show only the short description in the debconf GNOME
frontend; which may not be passing sufficient information for users to
understand what is expected of them, and that they really need to
remember that password since it will be asked after a reboot.

[Bug 1607571] Re: No network devices after suspend and resume

2016-08-02 Thread adin
I installed http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/ generic
amd64

However, there is no /sys/power/pm_trace. Do I need to do something
else? From the article, it seems that the kernel should have that
already.

Any advice on how to turn it on? or install it? My google-fu didn't
return any pointers on how to achieve it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!
