[Bug 1611982] Re: HWE upgrade from vivid to xenial removes support for r128 and mach64
I'm going to test Ubuntu GNOME w/Vivid stack tomorrow but tonight I ran a Lubuntu w/Utopic HWE upgrade and I think all looks fine: sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-hwe-eol shows: WARNING: Security updates for your current Hardware Enablement Stack ended on 2016-08-04: * http://wiki.ubuntu.com/1404_HWE_EOL There is a graphics stack installed on this system. [Bug 1612901] [NEW] Slightly misleading warning after manual partition selection
Public bug reported: This might be too minor to even be worth mentioning, but I just happened to notice that it wasn't quite correct. When installing Ubuntu (using the 16.04.1 desktop amd64 ISO), I selected the 'something else' option for manual partitioning, then did only the following two things: 1. Marked existing partition /dev/sda7 for formatting as ext4 and mounting at / 2. Marked existing partition /dev/sda8 for use as swap The confirmation dialog that appears next correctly notes those two things, but first states that "the partition table on /dev/sda will be modified." I haven't changed the partition table at all, though. After finishing the installation, it doesn't appear to have been messed with, so I'm guessing the message is just wrong. I wonder if it actually meant to say, "the master boot record of /dev/sda will be modified?" ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612901 Title: Slightly misleading warning after manual partition selection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1612901/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1612900] [NEW] Reset Password from lock screen
Public bug reported: As the administrator of an authentication environment, I would like my users to be able to reset their password from the lock screen if their password expires. Allowing a user to reset their password from a lock screen for a month after password expiry is no less secure than allowing the user's password to expire one month later and emailing them relentlessly. If you allow the option to lock them out and require a password reset at a time period earlier than their expiration, their security privileges are never escalated, only reduced. I think that's an acceptable security policy, and would also be a very useful feature. something something pipe to passwd, maybe? ** Affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612900 Title: Reset Password from lock screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1612900/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 80534] Re: Music sounds very Scratchy
I'm not sure if I should open a new bug report for this but I've had this problem testing the v19-freeze nightly build today. Other sounds seem fine but music is crackling (constant artifacts). I have this issue too in other programs which route the audio through pulseaudio instead of communicating directly with the ALSA devices (from what I can see). If this is the case it will probably affect a great number of players since pulseaudio is widespread nowadays (I think it's some sort of default at least on Debian Linux). [Bug 1612895] [NEW] Display freezes on 2nd+subsequent logins
Public bug reported: First boot after a fresh install of 16.04 from the 16.04.1 amd64 desktop ISO, with 'download updates' enabled. This is alongside an existing 14.04 installation, which continues to work flawlessly. In particular, this issue cannot be reproduced there. (I've installed the -lts-xenial kernel package there, so it's version 4.4.0.34.24, but NOT the xorg ones.) The first login on the new system worked fine. After simply logging out and in again, the display freezes just after drawing my user's desktop. (This first time, everything was drawn, but on subsequent attempts the background was black and the top Unity panel was empty.) The mouse cursor is movable, but no button or key presses are recognized. Eventually, I press Ctrl+Alt+F1. The mouse cursor disappears immediately; the display stays frozen and otherwise unchanged. After another two minutes or so of waiting, I am finally dumped to the virtual tty, which works fine. At this point a couple of kernel stack traces appear in dmesg (see below), with timestamps corresponding to "just now," i.e. when the vty switch finally occurred. Switching back to the X vty via Alt+F7 brings me back to the still- frozen display, at which point all I can do is Ctrl+Alt+F1 and wait ~2 minutes again. Stopping, then starting the lightdm service brings me back to a working login screen, but logging in just freezes right back again. Finally, rebooting the system allows me to login to a working desktop exactly once -- logging out and in again reproduces this problem reliably. The full dmesg is attached, but the short version is that stack traces appear in pairs, summarized by the following lines on the first occurrence: [ 242.116429] WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 2539 at /build/linux-dcxD3m/linux-4.4.0/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_irq.c:1326 drm_wait_one_vblank+0x1b5/0x1c0 [drm]() [ 242.116498] CPU: 2 PID: 2539 Comm: Xorg Not tainted 4.4.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu and by the following, slightly different ones, on the second and beyond: [ 380.232443] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 4173 at /build/linux-dcxD3m/linux-4.4.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:3963 intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips+0x1e2/0x240 [i915]() [ 380.232563] CPU: 1 PID: 4173 Comm: Xorg Tainted: GW 4.4.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-31-generic 4.4.0-31.50 [modified: boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-31-generic] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-31.50-generic 4.4.13 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-31-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: who3445 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Aug 12 19:51:28 2016 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=2065ee3e-d689-4432-a805-4a7822b06d0e InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-08-13 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) MachineType: LENOVO 4236AR5 ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-31-generic root=UUID=093a7652-dfb2-4f9e-9ceb-23761b18c8ef ro quiet splash RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-4.4.0-31-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-4.4.0-31-generic N/A linux-firmware1.157.2 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 10/31/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 83ET66WW (1.36 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 4236AR5 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr83ET66WW(1.36):bd10/31/2011:svnLENOVO:pn4236AR5:pvrThinkPadT420:rvnLENOVO:rn4236AR5:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 4236AR5 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T420 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial ** Attachment added: "dmesg.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612895/+attachment/4720010/+files/dmesg.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612895 Title: Display freezes on 2nd+subsequent logins To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1612895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1612883] [NEW] ppa LibreOffice Fresh install wrong UI language
Public bug reported: After making a new installation of Linux Mint 18 Sarah with Cinnamon desktop and locale en_GB.UTF8, wanting the latest Libre Office Fresh, I added the LibreOffice (Fresh) ppa to Software Sources, and went to Update Manager: after refresh (as expected) it offered the package Libre Office 5.2.0.4 (with ~-l10n package), install of this went ok except that on checking Tools > Options > Language, UI language was English (USA) only (no alternative), not English (UK) that I expected (other language options were ok). Note: no option to specify language/locale during installation of LO, I expected it to just pick up the language automatically from system locale I had not used or tweaked LibreOffice in any way prior to adding the ppa, and installing LO Fresh on this system. Subsequently uninstalled LO Fresh and PPA, installed 'standard' (for LM 18) LO 5.1 (including ~l10n-en-gb), then added ppa and reinstalled LO Fresh (5.2) - this did correctly set UI language to English(UK) lsb_release -rd Description:Linux Mint 18 Sarah Release:18 ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: fresh libreoffice ppa -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612883 Title: ppa LibreOffice Fresh install wrong UI language To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1612883/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1611133] Re: dpkg truncates lines in 'status' file which begin with two spaces.
Do you have dpkg status files that you can share, both good and bad? What do you mean by Package comments -> do you mean Description: field? Do you have sample .deb packages, which result in truncation post install? https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html mentions Comment: field, however, as an example of user-defined / custom fields, which would not be standards compliant / shouldn't be part of any Ubuntu package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611133 Title: dpkg truncates lines in 'status' file which begin with two spaces. [Bug 1173457] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Desktop 64 bit install uses wrong ESP for secure boot laptop
This still happens with Ubuntu 16.04.1. I have a "Live CD" on a 4GB USB stick (which ends up being /dev/sdb), a valid Linux installation (Lubuntu) in the internal HDD (4 partitions, /dev/sda), and the laptop's BIOS has secure boot enabled. When trying to use "something else" and manually setting up the partitions on a new blank 32GB USB stick (/dev/sdc), the install proceeds as expected; but attempting to boot the HDD without the 32GB stick present results in the GRUB command-line prompt. I can only make a standalone bootable external UDB drive by first formatting the internal HDD (which indeed I ended up doing). [Bug 1590425] Re: [MIR] python-ws4py
Hello; I reviewed python-ws4py version 0.3.4-3 as checked into Ubuntu yakkety. This shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - No CVEs in our UCT database - python-ws4py provides a python interface to websockets, both client and server implementations, for pure-python stdlib, tornado, gevent, (the client) and cherrypy, gevent, wsgiref, and asyncio (the server). - Build-deps: debhelper, dh-python, python-all, python-cherrypy3, python-gevent, python-mock, python-nose, python-setuptools, python-sphinx, python-sphinxcontrib.seqdiag, python-tornado, python3-all, python3-cherrypy3, python3-mock, python3-nose, python3-setuptools, python3-sphinx, python3-sphinxcontrib.seqdiag, python3-tornado - Extensive networking - No cryptography - Does not itself daemonize - Can listen on network sockets - Does not itself pick userid - pre/post inst/rm are automatically generated - No init scripts - No dbus services - Not setuid - No binaries in PATH - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - Smallish testsuite run during build; upstream uses a functional test framework for their releases - No cron jobs - Mostly clean build logs with a surprising entry: Warning: apt-key output should not be parsed (stdout is not a terminal) - No subprocesses spawned - Doesn't itself open files - Light logging - Does not itself use environment variables - Does not itself use privileged functions - No cryptography - A lot of simple networking; complicated framing mechanism - WSGI / gevent / asyncio / tornado / cherrypy - No privileged portions of code - No temporary files - No WebKit - No PolicyKit - No JavaScript This looked to be professionally programmed and while it touches on complicated areas of networking protocols and browsers, itself looks clean and straightforward. There are notes in the documentation that the wsgi and asyncio server implementations look immature or unsuitable by design for production use, so clients may need to be careful about which functionality is used. Presumably clients can be smart about this. Security team ACK for promoting python-ws4py to main. [Bug 1612802] Re: Installer crashes after partition definition
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD). You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck! Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1415039] Re: laptop unresponsive after suspend
The message in /var/log/pm-suspend.log quoted in the report "Failed to connect to non-global ctrl_ifname: (null) error: No such file or directory" comes from the wpa_supplicant sleep hook. This hook shouldn't be run when NetworkManager is operating, since NM handles sleep and resume DBus notifications itself. More often than not, the result of the race between the two is a half-working network that appears from the GUI to be working but actually isn't and has to be fixed by disabling and re- enabling Networking. At any rate it isn't connected with the original problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1415039 Title: laptop unresponsive after suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1415039/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
