[Bug 1624835] Re: 14.04 LTS -> 16.04 LTS upgrade breaks in libc's preinst

2016-09-18 Thread Marius Gedminas
** Description changed:

I upgraded a VPS from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS. During the upgrade
the libc6 preinst script showed this error:

- Checking for services that may need to be restarted...
- Checking init scripts...
- /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: 355: /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst:
runlevel: not found
+ Checking for services that may need to be restarted...
+ Checking init scripts...
+ /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: 355: /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst:
runlevel: not found

- Then the upgrade process hung for, I think, unrelated reasons.
+ Then the upgrade process deadlocked for, I think, unrelated reasons (I
+ filed bug 1624837 about that).

/sbin/runlevel is part of the 'upstart' package in 14.04, but it was
  moved to systemd-sysv in 16.05.

At this point in the upgrade upstart already upgraded to the xenial version,
but systemd-sysv wasn't yet installed.

[Bug 1624985] [NEW] Maximised windows won't fill space after a reboot where the resolution is larger

2016-09-18 Thread Joel
Public bug reported:

This effects 32-bit Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS, when a laptop is plugged into a
1920x1080 monitor through HDMI and the laptops display is off. Whilst
logged-in my resolution is set to 1600x900 so that it scales correctly,
when it is set to 1080p the edges of the screen are outside of the
monitor, but it looks fine in 1600x900.

However when it reboots the booting up process and the login screen are
in 1920x1080, (in-built laptop display is also on during log on) once
you've logged in it changes back to 1600x900, however when you maximize
a window it only takes up three quarters of the space until you cause it
to redraw, this can be done by changing the resolution then changing it
back, or by changing the size of the task-bar. After doing that all
windows will now take up the full space.

I do have Docky installed, by turning that off doesn't help, I'm also
not using any restricted graphic card drivers. But I do have Compton
Composition manger installed and use a config file like this:
http://duncanlock.net/blog/2013/06/07/how-to-switch-to-compton-for-
beautiful-tear-free-compositing-in-xfce/#id8

[Bug 1624705] Re: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle

2016-09-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Eugene Shkel, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is
complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test
the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1555567] Re: License information from the store not being used

2016-09-18 Thread Robert Ancell
I had an attempt at solving this in snapd with the attached patch. This
passes through the "license" field from the store [1] and can make a
search in gnome-software show this license field.

However, this field doesn't exist for installed snaps. This is because
the snap metadata doesn't contain this field and instead contains
differently defined license fields [2] (it refers to a license file, not
a string).

This needs some design input to progress. It seems to me that one of the
following needs to occur:

- The license file that is referred in the snap YAML would have to be
copied into the store database. This file could then be accessed either
from the store or from a locally installed snap. This has the downsides
that common license (e.g. GPL) are hard to match (requires checking the
whole license file) and extra data would need to be downloaded (as
opposed to a short string).

- The snap YAML would gain the license field as used in the store. The
existing license file could remain for non-common / complex licenses.
The downside of this is that existing snaps might have a license set in
the store but not in the .snap file (searching in gnome-software would
show a license but after install it would not).

[Bug 1624967] [NEW] $TERM is not set for /etc/rc.local

2016-09-18 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 dev with systemd 231-6 and after upgrading from
upstart to systemd I'm noticing that a setterm command fails that I have
put into /etc/rc.local in the past (to make specific settings on the
console without requiring a login). On making a look at this I figured
out that $TERM is not set at default anymore and maybe it makes sense to
set it at default again.

[Bug 1600047] Re: Please drop the dependency on libmusicbrainz3

2016-09-18 Thread Steve Langasek
kscd is now the last reverse-dependency of libmusicbrainz3 in yakkety.
It also shows as having no reverse-dependencies, and is not seeded.
This bug is fixed in Debian. Should we not just sync the new version of
kscd from Debian? And if that version is not appropriate for yakkety,
should we not at least remove this version of the package for now?

[Bug 1624965] [NEW] console respawn is sometimes slow and sometimes fast

2016-09-18 Thread Sworddragon

[Bug 1447909] Re: external mic not detected on machines with alc256 codec

2016-09-18 Thread Hui Wang
@mmifas,

According to the alsa-info.txt of the #20, it looks like the audio
driver did not detect the headphone/headset plugging event at all, if it
detects the plug/unplug event, the pulseaudio will automatically switch
the output from the speaker to headphone, don't need you to manually
change the alsamixer stuffs.

I guess after you plug in the headphone/headset, the output still only
comes from speaker, then you use some way (like using the pavucontrol
mentioned in the #13) to let the headphone work, but the driver and
pulseaudio still think the headphone is not plugged, as a result the
sound will be played out both from the speaker and headphone.

Please check /proc/interrupts on your machine, and notice the line end with the
key word snd_hda_intel, this is the interrupt count for sound driver, plug and
unplug the headset/headphone, let us see if this will trigger interrupt or not.

thx.

[Bug 1624944] [NEW] ui not responding correctly to stail/outdated creds for wpa/wpa2 enterprise connections

2016-09-18 Thread Mathijs Veen
Public bug reported:

os: Ubuntu-touch rc-proposed (r530)
device: Nexus4-Mako (but can be reproduces on Bq Aquaris M10)

When one is in range of a previously stored enterprise wifi connection, but the
credentials are known to be stail/outdated, upon connecting to that network,
the list-item of the selected connection will show as 'connected'. This is
ofcourse not actually true.
This can be done both in system-settings --> Wifi and in the dropdownlist of
available connections.

What should happen is that upon failing to authenticate to the network,
a popup should appear prompting the user to update the password.

Currently, the only way for the user to reconnect is to go into
'Previous networks', delete the connection there, and then register the
connection again.

This bug can be steadily reproduced on the Eduroam network in the school
where I work. The assumption is however that all Enterprise wifi
networks are effected.

Below is my .cache/upstart/indicator-network.log
That doesn't show much afaict but it was requested:

[Bug 1614593] Re: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform

2016-09-18 Thread Michael Schumacher
So...

Discovering that Debian and/or Ubuntu decided to make their GIMP 2.8
packages depend on gegl-0.3 instead of gegl-0.2 came as a surprise to
some of the GIMP developers.

We prefer not to raise library dependencies in the stable branch, and
have certainly not planned for changes in GIMP code to accommodate for
this in the stable branch - as you can see, the patch author for the fix
in the GIMP master branch isn't sure if the patch can be backported to
be compatible with both gegl-0.2 and gegl-0.3:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770848

This makes this hard to fix from our side for distros that choose to
deviate from the upstream dependencies.

Can I assume that Ubuntu tries to fix this for their package, based on
the patch(es) proposed in this bug report?

[Bug 1624928] [NEW] 'maxima manual' does not reopen maxima browser

2016-09-18 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

1) open xmaxima
2) close xmaxima browser
3) click on help->Maxima Manual (xmaxima browser)

result : pop up error window
"bad window path name .browser
 [OK] [Skip Messages] [Details >>]"

details:

bad window path name ".browser":
bad window path name ".browser"
while executing
"frame $w"
(procedure "mkOpenMath" line 17)
invoked from within
"mkOpenMath [set w $toplevel.t[incr maxima_priv(counter)]] "
(procedure "OpenMathOpenUrl" line 95)
invoked from within
"OpenMathOpenUrl "file://usr/share/maxima/5.37.2/doc/html/maxima_toc.html""
invoked from within
".#menu.#menu#help invoke active"
("uplevel" body line 1)
invoked from within
"uplevel #0 [list $w invoke active]"
(procedure "tk::MenuInvoke" line 50)
invoked from within
"tk::MenuInvoke .#menu.#menu#help 1"
(command bound to event)

If you do not close the maxima browser this error does not occur, and the help
file is brought up as per expected.
The thing is though, you can close the maxima browser a long time before you go
to click on help, for a particularly long maxima session, this can be hours
later and it may not be apparent what this error message means other than,
broadly, whatever the user thinks 'bad window path name .browser' might mean.

what should happen:

either:

a) if .browser is a bad window path name, a new instance of the maxima
browser should be invoked and the help file should be loaded within it.

b) a more descriptive error message ("please restart xmaxima browser")
along with a way of manually starting the xmaxima browser(does not
appear to be a clearly visible way to do this?)

c) configure xmaxima to either use the system's browser or the xmaxima
browser for help in some preference somewhere.

[Bug 1624917] Re: external usb-3 disk crashes when writing.

2016-09-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1624917/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Is there anything in dmesg after the failed touch or failed strace? Not
sure what this could be still, unless the host's Xen kernel behaves that

[Bug 1577216] Re: Restart X server when trying to open LibreOffice

2016-09-18 Thread Dan Kegel
This happened to me, too. I uninstalled xserver-xorg-video-intel to work around
awful, nasty flashing, as suggested by
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152#c73

So evidently that workaround isn't stable enough yet.

I had done a release upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04(instead of a fresh
install) if that needs to be taken into consideration.

re: [Bug 1608697] Re: Upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 fails

2016-09-18 Thread FalCT60
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Hello,

This didn't solve the problem, unfortunately. There must be other packages that
prevent the upgrade, which I can't find due to my poor level knowledge.
I must have installed something once, but what ?
So, as this case is set as closed or so, I think the best I have to do is save
my home and personnal data and start from a fresh install.
I've tried this once (with no real success), I intend to read the pages more
carefully and give it another try.

Many thanks for your time, sorry you wasted it because of me.

Best regards,

J.-Luc

[Bug 1301125] Re: Lock screen after idle time freezes unity

2016-09-18 Thread zhxq
Yesterday when I went to sleep, I left the computer in lock screen.

Usually, when I leave the computer in lock screen, the screen would
close in a certain time.

However, yesterday night, I left the computer in lock screen; and when I
woke up ten hours later, the screen was still on the lock screen, but
not closed as normal.

I tried to move my mouse, but nothing happened. I also tried to smash
the keyboard, but also no respond. The only way for me to deal with the
problem is to restart.

Any help? Thanks!
