[Bug 1636375] [NEW] systemd-resolved does not allow you to connect using subdomains using search domains which are in /etc/resolv.conf

2016-10-24 Thread Sean Crosby
Public bug reported:

systemd-resolved doesn't seem to allow you to use subdomains when
connecting to hosts in domains that are part of /etc/resolv.conf

e.g.

16:01|scrosby@stewie: ~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver W.X.Y.Z
nameserver A.B.C.D
nameserver 127.0.0.53
search blah1 blah2 blah3 blah4 blah5

with systemd-resolved running

16:05|scrosby@stewie: ~$ ping foo.bar
ping: foo.bar: Name or service not known

without systemd-resolved running

16:05|scrosby@stewie: ~$ ping foo.bar
PING foo.bar.blah3 (E.F.G.H) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from foo.bar.blah3 (E.F.G.H): icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=1.68 ms
64 bytes from foo.bar.blah3 (E.F.G.H): icmp_seq=2 ttl=52 time=1.09 ms

It does seem like looking up hosts without a . in their name does use
the search domains in resolv.conf though

16:05|scrosby@stewie: ~$ ping foo2
PING foo2.blah3 (I.J.K.L) 56(84) bytes of data.

[Bug 1600361] Re: NVME crashes Ubuntu 16.04

2016-10-24 Thread madbiologist
Hmm. I'll have a look through the kernel changelogs later tonight when
I have more time. In the meantime, do all 3 chassis have the same BIOS
version? You could also try testing the 4.5.x and 4.6.x mainline
kernels.

  [Original bug description]
When creating a swift/radosgw container in horizon the container gets
created, but shows up with a creation date of 19700101

In the apache log one can observe

  curl -i http://10.11.140.241:80/swift/v1/bucket1 -I -H "X-Auth-Token: ...
Container HEAD failed: http://10.11.140.241:80/swift/v1/bucket1 404 Not Found

However a manual curl call succeeds. Also the radosgw.log shows
  successful PUT/GET requests.

I get similar results using the swift command line utility with
containers inheriting a creation date of 19700101 even though I can see
the correct date being passed to rados in the headers of the request.

Also similarly issues with ceilometer intergration, similarly linked:

[Bug 1577140] Re: Wifi Ralink R3290 disabled by default in ubuntu 16.04

2016-10-24 Thread Shankey
Unfortunately, the Bug still exists on Ubuntu 16.10...I don't know whats
wrong with the R2800pci and even blacklisting the driver doesn't solves
the issue...and i need to stuck on linux mint 17..just because of this
issue.

Somehow if we manage to remove default PCI driver from linux kernel (as
i don't know how to do that), i think rfkill issue would be solved i am
not 100% sure about that will it work or not.

I have done everything googled every solution none of them worked. Thats
the main reason why i refused to installed ubuntu 16.04LTS.

[Bug 1636370] [NEW] Ubuntu crashes while installing, can't install "grub-install/dev/sda"

2016-10-24 Thread Mike
Public bug reported:

I've tried installing Ubuntu on an Asus M51V Laptop, the specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU @ 2.26ghz
4GB Ram
250Gb SATA HDD

When it gets to the "Running 'grub-install/dev/sda'..." part of the
install, it hangs for about 10-15 minutes and then returns an error:

Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda
Executing 'grub-install/dev/sda' failed.
This is a fatal error.

It then gives me 3 options to choose from, either to try install on a
different SDA, continue with installation but will need boot repair or
cancel installation - and no matter which option I select, the installer
crashes.

I have tried to perform a Boot Repair using boot-repair-disk, which said
the restore was successful, it created the following information dumb
at:

paste.ubuntu.com/23377240

If anybody could shed some light it would be very much appreciated! This
is driving me insane...

Then it's maybe the remainder of an old source installation - thought I used
checkinstall.

I only added /var/log/kerberos to the list of writable directories. That won't
cause a missing shared library.

[Bug 1258422]

2016-10-24 Thread Voicu Hodrea
Hello,

I'm experiencing the same issue but I do not have a dual monitor setup
(although I did have one at a point so it might still be related?).

When I log in (sometimes?) the panel which is set as vertical on the
left side overlaps maximized windows. I.e. I log in and if I start
Firefox which opens up maximized, the left side of Firefox will be under
the panel.

If I unlock the panel and go to its settings and resize it just a bit
it, the windows maximize to the panel's edge as they should.

Maybe this helps with debugging.

Thank you

[Bug 1635906] Re: Low graphics mode in multi monitor setup after upgrade to 16.10

2016-10-24 Thread isotope
Hi,
I have done some further investigation and these are my results:

- Clean install of Ubuntu 16.10: No luck
- Clean install of Ubuntu Gnome:
   - GNOME and GNOME Classic (I believe) sessions - same result, although it
managed to reach login screen. But once I type in the password and hit enter,
both screens flicker and I am bumped back to login screen as if I never logged
in. No error messages, nothing.
   - GNOME sessions with only one external monitor connected to the dock
station. In either case all was good and I was able to log in etc.
   - GNOME on Wayland: DID ACTUALLY WORK! So, I moved my system to that GNOME
session for the time being. Good for a change too :)

Regards,
isotope.

2016-10-24 Thread Steve Langasek
This is not a bug of the krb5-kdc package in Ubuntu 16.10. krb5-kdc
1.14.3+dfsg-2 is linked against libcom_err.so.2, not against
libcom_err.so.3.

been modified on your system.

[Bug 1602349] Re: xul-ext-ublock-origin is disabled by firefox for lack of signature

2016-10-24 Thread Sean Whitton
Debian packages of Firefox addons cannot be signed. Debian's Firefox
carries a patch that turns off signature warnings for addons installed
system-wide. One way to resolve this bug would be for Ubuntu's Firefox
to carry it too.

Also, update to my comment 5 on this bug report:

For future reference and the sake of completeness: this bug is not
present in Andrei Alin's version of browser-plugin-freshplayer-
pepperflash (source: freshplayerplugin) from ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8,
starting version 0.3.5-1. His version 0.3.5-1 Recommends
pepperflashplugin-nonfree | adobe-flashplugin instead of just
pepperflashplugin-nonfree, and his version 0.3.6-1 only Recommends
adobe-flashplugin. Thanks Andrei!

So this report only concerns the version shipped with Ubuntu, imported
from Debian.

Perhaps when Adobe releases the new NPAPI plugin that's currently in
beta, we'll see flashplugin-installer (NPAPI) bumped to that new plugin,
and adobe-flashplugin (currently PPAPI and NPAPI) restricted to PPAPI.
But it's just as likely that adobe-flashplugin will instead continue to
provide the PPAPI plugin and also provide the new NPAPI plugin.

It's all right, you're using the right plugin. The difference in
reported versions between Adobe's test page and about:plugins is a known
issue (https://github.com/i-rinat/freshplayerplugin/blob/master/doc
/known-issues.md#flash-version-is-incorrect).

You are correct and this is a reason why adobe-flashplugin is
recommended over pepperflashplugin-nonfree (+ the browser-plugin-
freshplayer-pepperflash wrapper in both cases, if using Firefox).

Taking a blind guess because there's so little information here. Maybe
this is related to the recent troubles with Google authentication.

Was your calendar in sync with Google Calendar before?

[Bug 1632870] Re: Package is broken since Google stopped shipping Flash with Chrome 54 for Linux

2016-10-24 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
Last remarks about the wrapper: Stéphane:

> in Firefox when I use browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash

> Flash plugin and I am not able to force the use of the PPAPI
> version
>

This is because both look like NPAPI plugins to Firefox (which
incidentally does not support PPAPI plugins anyway): the PPAPI plugin
installed by adobe-flashplugin is wrapped as a NPAPI plugin by browser-
plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash. But you (and Firefox) can still tell the
difference from the version numbers.

As mentioned in my previous comment, I suggest using Andrei Alin's
version of browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash instead of the one in
the Ubuntu repository. It will set up the symlinks so that only the
wrapped PPAPI plugin is shown to Firefox, not the NPAPI plugin.

> some websites will start the NPAPI plugin and some other will
> run the PPAPI plugin

Are you sure about that? I've always thought only the higher-version
plugin was used by Firefox, so, the wrapped PPAPI plugin. I've never
seen Firefox start the lower-version plugin when running Flash content
on the web, but I'm not checking every time though.

> Disabling one of the plugins does not work either because the
> setting is applied to both plugins (this is visible after
> reloading the plugin setting menu).

Yes, this is irritating. Again, Andrei Alin's version.

> This makes browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash mostly useless
> and "solves" my both issues, I will just stick to adobe-flashplugin
> and remove browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash and
> pepperflashplugin-nonfree

I don't see how this solves anything, and if you do that, your Firefox
will use the deprecated 11.2 NPAPI Flash plugin, because you'll have
removed the PPAPI/NPAPI wrapper (browser-plugin-freshplayer-
pepperflash).

Now the 11.2 NPAPI plugin is still supported security-wise, so that may
be enough for your needs, while waiting for the updated new NPAPI plugin
to exit beta.

[Bug 1632870] Re: Package is broken since Google stopped shipping Flash with Chrome 54 for Linux

2016-10-24 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
Moving on to the browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash issues mentioned
in this thread: just like pepperflashplugin-nonfree (the PPAPI plugin),
browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash (the NPAPI/PPAPI wrapper) comes
from Debian and has no Ubuntu maintainer, only the MOTU guys who are
overworked already.

So any change that we would like to see made to it will only be made in
Debian, and with Debian in mind, and land in the development release of
Ubuntu, not in the already-released releases, unless a MOTU takes
specific action.

This is why, for instance, browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash will
keep recommending pepperflashplugin-nonfree, the sole packaged source of
PPAPI Flash plugin for Debian users, whereas we Ubuntu users would
rather see browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash recommend adobe-
flashplugin instead (Stéphane, comment 4).

The reproaches made in this thread against browser-plugin-freshplayer-
pepperflash have been documented in other bug reports (bug 1544409, bug
1633678). I'm therefore removing this package from the current bug
report, because it is about the PPAPI Flash plugin, not the PPAPI/NPAPI
wrapper.

Those reproaches are (Stéphane, Niklas):

* should recommend adobe-flashplugin instead of pepperflashplugin-
nonfree

* should install the wrapper as a higher-priority alternative to the
NPAPI plugin installed by adobe-flashplugin (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
/flashplugin-alternative.so -> /etc/alternatives/mozilla-flashplugin ->
/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so) instead of as a separate
plugin (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flash-mozilla.so -> /etc/alternatives
/flash-mozilla.so -> /usr/lib/browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash
/libfreshwrapper-flashplayer.so), so that only the wrapped PPAPI plugin
shows up in Firefox, not the NPAPI plugin too

It is worth mentioning here that Andrei Alin's version of browser-
plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash (>= 0.3.6-1), in
ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8, available for Trusty to Yakkety, takes these
reproaches into account and implement our requested changes, contrary to
Debian's version of browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash. Thanks
Andrei!

I suggest using Andrei Alin's version over Debian's version, not only
because it closely follows upstream versions, but also because it is
better tailored to Ubuntu users and adobe-flashplugin.

[Bug 1636313] Re: [sync request] libdrumstick version in Debian is newer than in Zesty

2016-10-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I'll sync this for you. Note that it is in Debian experimental not
unstable.

Next time, I think you'll find it easier to run the 'requestsync'
command found in the ubuntu-dev-tools package. This will help you file a
bug and subscribe ubuntu-sponsors to the bug so that it's seen by people

[Bug 1236926] Re: [browser] No facility to import bookmarks from other browsers

2016-10-24 Thread Leonard Sitongia
I disagree that the importance of this is "Low" and is a wishlist item.
Providing an easy transition from other platforms is essential for
adoption of Touch by customers. Is this not what Ubuntu and Canonical
want? As it is now, it is difficult for important core apps (calendar,
contacts, browser) to import data for migration.

[Bug 1566987] Re: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network

2016-10-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Thanks Yan

Your responses point towards a module (driver) problem (yes bug) to me,
and my 'dirty-workaround' won't help. I'll give it some thought and play
around with the wireless on my x201 & t43 (closest I have to your t460)
& see if I come up with anything. ps: today/tomorrow i'm unlikely to
be on web; so expect response (my) thursday or later.

next dirty workaround|hack coming to mind is disabling & re-enabling
wireless. have you tried this? or did it do anything?

This used to be the case, but no longer: Adobe now finally distributes
the PPAPI Flash plugin for Linux, by itself, unbundled from Google
Chrome and the Canonical package:

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions

I suppose we have to thank Google's decision of no longer shipping PPAPI
Flash with Chrome for that.

[Bug 1632870] Re: Package is broken since Google stopped shipping Flash with Chrome 54 for Linux

2016-10-24 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
First of all: pepperflashplugin-nonfree comes from Debian, as opposed to
adobe-flashplugin which is Ubuntu-specific, and the fact that it is
broken now that Google stops shipping the PPAPI Flash plugin with
Chrome, starting with v54 released a few days ago, has been reported to
the Debian maintainer Bart Martens:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=833741
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=841373

To repair the package, he could use Adobe's website instead of Google
Chrome as the source for the PPAPI Flash plugin: as Gunnar mentionned
the PPAPI plugin is now officially available from Adobe:

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions

Using this source would probably be simpler than the redirector.gvt1.com
link, or ripping libpepflashplayer.so from Canonical's adobe-flashplugin
package.

That said, if the Debian maintainer fixes the package, changes to it
will only land in the development release of Ubuntu, not in the already-
released releases, unless an Ubuntu universe/multiverse maintainer
manually updates it, which I wouldn't hold my breath for, given how few
they are for so many packages. So Trusty/Xenial/Yakkety users will
probably stay stuck with a broken pepperflashplugin-nonfree.

Anyway, Ubuntu users are no longer supposed to use this package, as
Gunnar mentionned, they should use Canonical's adobe-flashplugin instead
as their source for the PPAPI Flash plugin:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Chromium/Getting-Flash

Gunnar's packaging of the updated beta NPAPI plugin is a new possibility
too (for Firefox users), thanks Gunnar.

In any case, and despite our wishes, pepperflashplugin-nonfree is
unlikely to disappear from Ubuntu, because it is Debian users' sole
(packaged) way of getting the PPAPI Flash plugin and because it has no
Ubuntu maintainer who could stop it from being imported from Debian at
each new Ubuntu development cycle.

[Bug 1425994] Re: Squirrelmail 'From' and 'Subject' apear blank

2016-10-24 Thread Scott Talbert
@LeeV, @TomHogland, I think the issue in 16.04 may be a different bug.
See the bug I reported:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squirrelmail/+bug/1636333

I have a PPA there with the patch that resolves the issue in 16.04 for
me - please try it if you have a chance.

Note that looking at kernel git, dead_threshold still seem to be the
right value.

I don't known why on last ubuntu/debian kernel it's now "threshold".

I'll try to build a stock kernel to compare.

[Bug 1636333] [NEW] Squirrelmail - missing Subject/Body on some messages in 16.04

2016-10-24 Thread Scott Talbert
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 16.04, Squirrelmail has a regression from 14.04. Certain
messages are missing the subject or message body. Investigation reveals
that this is due to the removal of the /e modifier in preg_replace in
PHP 7. The server logs show numerous error messages similar to the
following:

[Mon Oct 24 19:40:36.248894 2016] [:error] [pid 4699] [client
AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD:12345] PHP Warning: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is
no longer supported, use preg_replace_callback instead in
/usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/decode/utf_8.php on line 87, referer:
xyz

Upstream has resolved this issue:
https://sourceforge.net/p/squirrelmail/code/14359/

After applying the patch in 14359 (plus the trivial 14347 which is
necessary to make 14359 apply cleanly), the problems go away.

PPA with the patches applied: https://launchpad.net/~swt-
techie/+archive/ubuntu/squirrelmail

[Bug 1632870] Re: Package is broken since Google stopped shipping Flash with Chrome 54 for Linux

2016-10-24 Thread Nathanaël Naeri
Viktor: your issue with QtWebEngine not finding the PPAPI Flash plugin
is that it looks for it in the following three locations, if I
understand correctly from http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtwebengine-
features.html#pepper-flash-player-plugin-support:

/usr/lib/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so
/usr/lib64/chromium/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so

You could ask the QtWebEngine developers to add the following path to
the list, and dispense with the symlink:

/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libpepflashplayer.so

You can already receive XMPP messages if they aren't encrypted with some
work behind the scenes using the terminal. But it would be great if we
could send messages, use OMEMO encryption and have a better UI to do
more things that XMPP allows/requires.

[Bug 1624268] Re: pam_mount crashes SDDM because helper doesn't close session after authentication

2016-10-24 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Also check:

loginctl show-session $XDG_SESSION_ID

It turns out then, that there is no relation for you having a black
screen (aka stuck SDDM); I do not know enough about your
installation/Hardware to help you out on that. But the two previous
questions and that one could help to get shine some light into the
problem.

I'd suggest that you remove the packages, since they are an early
preview, and not yet thoroughfully enough tested:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:tsimonq2/sddm-fixes

(tested that too-it works)

You'll be getting the update once it's through the SRU-bugfix-process of
thouroughful testing.

@ Simon: I've made a test install of the packages on two unvirginic
production-systems (64-Bit/no external monitors). It doesn't hurt the
system. But I discovered a small oops, that may as well come through the
backports-ppa, nothing harmfull (kwallet4) but just not nice. But that
should get fixed in the ppa. In terms of Zesty I wouldn't want to 'til
Apr. to have this srued – and I'd really exspect sddm-0.14 to be in
there by then.

In short: if you need assistance on testing that for SRU, I'll set up a
juvenile small Virtual-Box installation, upgrade it to represent the
current state of packages. As test-pattern I would also suggest to
switch to Light-DM and vice-versa. I'll be with you on the other bug-
report, then.
