[Bug 1649050] [NEW] Depend on default-dbus-session-bus | dbus-session-bus instead of dbus-x11

2016-12-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Debian is working to use dbus-user-session by default but allow dbus-x11
to be used as a replacement if a user wants to.

https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2016/08/msg00554.html

Note that gnome-session has not been ported to use dbus-user-session yet
so this may be tricky to test ( https://bugs.debian.org/835887 )

Below are comments when I asked smcv about ubiquity:
-
"ubiquity explicitly uses dbus-launch and so might need code changes. I am not
an Ubuntu developer, so I don't know how your installer works.

Looking at bin/ubiquity-dm, if it runs in an ordinary X11/Wayland environment
(where Xsession.d has already been sourced if using X11, and libpam-systemd
has already started `systemd --user` if it is installed), then it is probably
OK with default-dbus-session-bus | dbus-session-bus. Ideally it would trust
that its dependencies will provide a session bus, rather than
second-guessing them.

I don't know how Mir session startup works. If dbus-user-session is
installed and libpam-systemd has had a chance to start `systemd --user`,
then that case is fine. If X11 compatibility analogous to XWayland is
available and dbus-x11 is installed, then X11 autolaunch will work,
and dbus-x11 is also fine. If Mir sessions might run in the absence of
dbus-user-session and don't have X11, then the session starter
(gnome-session equivalent) might need to be prepared to launch a
dbus-daemon explicitly.

I don't know what autopilot/run_ubiquity is for (is it a test?)
but it should probably use dbus-run-session instead of dbus-launch,
like https://bugs.debian.org/836040 . Likewise
for
autopilot/ubiquity-autopilot-runner/custom-installation/iso-override/usr/local/bin/run-autopilot.sh
 ."

[Bug 1649048] [NEW] "Power off" required for resume from hybrid-sleep on AC power

2016-12-10 Thread Steven Ward
Public bug reported:

Due to issues with "waking from suspend", I have modified a few entries in
/etc/systemd/logind.conf to use hybrid-sleep instead of suspend, namely
'HandleSuspendKey=hybrid-sleep', 'HandleLidSwitch=hybrid-sleep' and
'HandleLidSwitchDocked=hybrid-sleep'. On a few occasions now, I have closed my
laptop lid while it is plugged it and when I return to it later, it does not
resume on lifting the lid. The disk spins up and the fan runs as if the laptop
was resuming but I am unable to do anything other than hold the power button
down until it shuts down - much as I had to when I was having problems with
suspend. When I hit the power button again and select the entry for Ubuntu in
grub, the laptop boots to the login screen normally. When I log in, everything
is just as it was when I originally closed the laptop's lid - basically
"resuming" the way I had hoped. I do not believe that this is the intended
behavior as I have had my computer resume from hybrid-sleep without powering it
off in 16.0
4 and in 16.10 (I have not, that I know of, experienced this problem while on
battery power). In case it is relevant, the current values of 'Suspend when
inactive for' and 'When the lid closes' in Settings > Power are "Don't suspend"
(for battery and plugged in) and "Suspend" (for battery and plugged in),
respectively.
I will attach the output from 'cat /proc/version_signature' and 'lspci -vnvn'
but I would like to add that 'sudo lspci -vnvn' sent 'pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd:
read failed: Input/output error' to stderr, which was not redirected to the log
file.

[Bug 1613155] Re: ocserv daemon doesn't get network settings from configuration file

2016-12-10 Thread Mike Miller
Right, yazoo's suggestion should work, to turn the service into a
standalone service vs a socket-activated service.

You can also modify the socket properties in the ocserv.socket
configuration file rather than the ocserv.conf file. This is described
briefly in README.Debian in the latest package of ocserv, and in the man
pages for systemd.unit(5) and systemd.socket(5).

2016-12-10 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
apport information

** Description changed:

I have motherboard GA-Z170X-UD5 TH with 2 USB Type-C (USB
  3.1/Thunderbolt 3) ports, BIOS version F20b.

Both ports are "sleeping" on cold start - I can't boot from USB device
plugged into any and both of these 2 USB Type-C ports. Ubuntu 17.04 as
of December 11 doesn't see anything (no messages in dmesg).

But magically situation changes when involve Windows 10 to the party. I
boot into Windows PE based on Windows 10 and it happily see flash drive
and my Nexus 6P connected to both ports.

After this without unplugging mentioned devices I reboot into Ubuntu and
"magic" - both flash drive and Nexus 6P work fine through these 2 USB
Type-C ports. Even though it works in Ubuntu, BIOS still doesn't see
  anything.

But things are even more interesting: when I unplug either Nexus 6P or
flash drive and then plug back - they still work fine! But as soon as I
unplug both of them - Ubuntu doesn't see anything and doesn't post
anything into dmesg until I boot into Windows 10 again. Interestingly,
  USB 3.1 controller disappears:

[Bug 1649039] [NEW] USB 3.1 controller does weird magic: appears after Windows 10, disappears otherwise

2016-12-10 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Public bug reported:

Even though it works in Ubuntu, BIOS still doesn't see
anything.

0b:00.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation DSL6540 USB 3.1 Controller [Alpine

Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd

But things are even more interesting: when I unplug either Nexus 6P or
flash drive and then plug back - they still work fine! But as soon as I
unplug both of them - Ubuntu doesn't see anything and doesn't post
anything into dmesg until I boot into Windows 10 again. Interestingly,
USB 3.1 controller disappears:

[Bug 1592678] Re: gnome-software starts very early in the session, slowing down boot

2016-12-10 Thread Jugurtha Hadjar
This also affects me.

uname -a:

Linux X 4.8.0-30-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Dec 2 03:43:33 UTC 2016
i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

systemd-analyze:

Startup finished in 11.337s (kernel) + 2min 38.825s (userspace) = 2min
50.163s

Additional information to remove if deemed irrelevant:
- network interface isn't always brought up, so there might be something there.
- tracker (miner, store, etc) processes also hoard resources in the same manner
(IO and CPU).
- frequent crashes I have yet to determine the cause of.

[Bug 1510344] Re: Keyboard Backlight Turns on at boot

2016-12-10 Thread David Rosenstrauch
Thanks for sharing the fixes everyone. I was able to get this to work
too.

For the record, the fix for me was the following:

1) mask the dell::kbd_backlight.service, as described above
2) go into the bios, and change the keyboard led timeout from 10s to 5s

Note that it had to be done in that order. For some reason if the
kbd_backlight service is not masked, it somehow forces the bios led
timeout back to 10s, and then the keyboard led always remains lit.

[Bug 1634689] Re: DNS leak after upgrade to 16.10

2016-12-10 Thread Eylul
Also noticed this. when using a couple of example setup files (different
servers) that worked without leak in 16.04, in 16.10 there is dns leak.
I am not sure how to exactly send requests mean for VPN but would be
willing to try if I can figure it out. The rest of the information is
below.

How is the VPN configured on the client?

Export of VPN settings as .ovpn:
client
remote
ca
cert
key
comp-lzo yes
dev tun
proto udp
nobind
auth-nocache
script-security 2
persist-key
persist-tun
user nm-openvpn
group nm-openvpn

vpn conf at /etc/NetworkManager:

[connection]
id=
uuid=
type=vpn
permissions=
secondaries=
timestamp=

[vpn]
connection-type=tls
remote=:
comp-lzo=yes
cert-pass-flags=0
cert=
dev=tun

service-type=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn

[ipv4]
dns-search=
method=auto

[ipv6]
addr-gen-mode=stable-privacy
dns-search=
ip6-privacy=0
method=auto

Is it set up to "Use this connection only for the resources on its network"? Is
that the case for both IPv4 and IPv6?
No, and no.

What are the contents of /etc/resolv.conf?

/etc/resolve.conf while VPN is running:

2. Keyboard for numbers:

Of course I could be wrong :)

Let's wait for UX team decision first though.

[Bug 1649019] [NEW] Warzone 2100 freezes repeatedly in full screen mode

2016-12-10 Thread Felix Oxley
Public bug reported:

Set Warzone to use full screen mode and optimum resolution for your
display, then restart.

Launch Warzone, choose Single Player > Start Skirmish Game

Whilst you are choosing game preferences or when you click the checkbox
to begin the game the program will freeze. The issue came sometimes by
overcome by switching to a different VT and then switching back.

I have been playing Warzone on Ubuntu for years using all versions up to
the upstream 3.2.1 without any problems. This problem started with
Ubuntu 16.10

I have replicated this problem on a clean download of Ubuntu 16.10 using
the 3.1.1 version of Warzone from the software repository.

[Bug 1649011] [NEW] File Choser crashes in GTK3 apps when unselecting multiple items

2016-12-10 Thread Brandon MacEachern
Public bug reported:

When using the mouse to select multiple files in a GTK3 based
application via the file choser, everything works as expected, but if
you undrag the lasso you just made to unselect them, once the last file
is unselected, the entire applications crash. It doesn't matter what
program it is, if it's GTK3 based, it'll crash. Either gedit, Firefox,
etc. I was told via an ubuntu forum admin that it looks like nautilus
so I'm filing it under it as such. I have found it effects any
platform, Raspberry Pi (the one I'm filing this bug with right now), and
my X86_64 desktop. Both do the exact same thing. I made a video
detailing the exact issue to help point you in the right direction:
https://youtu.be/_Zl1p6hXNQ0

Both machines are up to date on the latest LTS release (16.04 as of this
writing).

[Bug 1167014] Re: MIssing cmake files

2016-12-10 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
I agree this bug should be closed.
I encountered this issue when building
https://github.com/andrewssobral/bgslibrary on Xenial

However, this was due to the absence of the devel package (I only had
the standard OpenCV package installed).

Installing libopencv-dev fixed this issue as it brings the necessary cmake
files, and I could build BGS.
See http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/libopencv-dev/filelist for where
they are located.

Existing Trusty user at next isc-dhcp-client pkg upgrade will
automatically receive (Recommends: isc-dhcp-client-ddns).

And for users bother by the extra random port they will simply have to
apt-get purge isc-dhcp-client-ddns.

[Bug 1604062] Re: too easy to trigger the apps switcher / spread on desktop

2016-12-10 Thread krusty
I'm using a Nexus 7 tablet. Previously (around the time this bug was
raised) I ran rc-proposed. Right now I have OTA-14 stable. Sometimes I
use the tablet with external mouse and keyboard.

When this bug was raised I was sharing the sentiment. With a mouse I
often triggered it unintentionally. But there were also times where I
did want to trigger it, but failed. I moved the mouse to the right, saw
the spread come up, assumed it was fully triggered and started moving
the mouse left again towards whereever I wanted to click, only to
realize that the spread wasn't /fully/ triggered but only in some
preview state and moving left would immediately collaps it. So I had to
retry.

Nowadays, I still sometimes trigger the spred even though I don't want
to and sometimes I don't trigger it fully even when I want, but both has
become less. Maybe it's just my muscle memory learning it, or maybe
there has been some finetuning recently?!

As for the suggestion to disable the edge gesture (mayben when no touch
is present, or when a mouse is present). I guess it would be an option,
but I think I might actually miss it. I tend to /stick/ to an input
device for a period of time. Meaning when I'm typing, I will most
definitely switch with Alt-Tab and not reach away from the keyboard to
the mouse. Similarly when I am scrolling around with my finger on the
screen I would dislike if if I /had/ to reach over to keyboard or mouse
for anything. And also when I'm leaned back, surfing through some
websites using the mouse, then I don't want to use anything else than
the mouse to switch back to my news reader or music player. In those
cases I find it quite nice to have the spread available when using only
the mouse. It would be /possible/ to switch applications with the
laucher on the left, but I do prefer the spread on the right.

Bottom line of all my babbling, while it isn't perfect yet, it is a
complicated story with many aspects that should be balanced and a /quick
fix/ of /just/ turning it off without touch might be too simplistic.

Re: [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-12-10 Thread James Bowery
First of all, you just cost me a few hours trying to get my network
connection back after the instructions for reinstall of network-manager
upon failed WICD, themselves, failed.

Second, if the default network manager system that comes with distributions
has a bug, it's not "whining" to rather insist that it be fixed or replaced
with something that works.

[Bug 1435040] Re: Ubuntu Phone does not connect to car-bluetooth

2016-12-10 Thread Mons ter Wade
BQ Aquaris E5
Volkswagen Phaeton 2011 (VW Navigation System RNS810)
OTA14

Finally IT WORKS! But from the beginning:

After the OTA 14 Update I tried again to connect to my in car bluetooth
system and make calls. Connecting (still) worked. Next I tried to make a
call and again no sound from the speakers. After random changes on both
ends (phone and in car system, of course with no systematic tracking), I
tried again to call somebody and now speakers/mic worked perfectly. I
left my car, entered again, phone reconnected and now again no sound!?!
Wtf? But I was hooked, if it worked one time, it has to be possible to
make it work again ...

It took me some time to track down the necessary conditions for a stable
and working bluetooth connection:

1. In the phones bluetooth settings the auto connect button for the
connection to the in car bluetooth system has to be disabled. If this is
not disabled, the car and the phone try to establish the connection at
the same time and things get messed up, up to the point where both
systems eventually freeze.

2. The car system can only establish the bluetooth connection, if the
screen of the phone is unlocked.

That's all. If you pay attention to these 2 points, really everything
works perfectly (for Volkswagen systems)! Even streaming media via
bluetooth works!

I'm really excited, thank you very much for your work! I use my phone
for business and desperately needed a working hands free system in my
car. Unlocking my screen after entering the car is no big deal to me.
Switching back to android is now definitely off the table. Thank you
again and keep up the great work! I really love the usability and GUI of
my ubuntu phone!
