[Bug 730159] Re: ffmpeg library configuration mismatch
Please, I hope you DO fix it. I understand the reluctance to remove a needed message, but I would hope the spuriousness could be removed. Programs like ffmpeg and avconv are used simply because they are darned useful. They often accomplish in seconds what front end apps can't do at all. Contrary to what you might think, I don't know if I'm average, but like many people, I find it hard enough--extremely hard, in fact--to deal with real messages, never mind the spurious ones. It's awfully nice if this stuff just works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730159 Title: ffmpeg library configuration mismatch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ffmpeg-extra/+bug/730159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1733136] Re: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses LLVMpipe software driver on hybrid graphics system
FWIW, removing libglvnd0 fixed the problem (libegl1 does depend on it, but it isn't installed in artful either - libegl1-mesa is). So the bug is actually: a) the upgrade from artful to bionic installed libglvnd0 and libegl1 when they aren't needed; b) having libglvnd0/libegl1 installed breaks EGL on Intel-graphics systems. ** Description changed: + This bug is in ubiquity and in libglvnd0/libegl1: + + a) Upgrading from artful to bionic installs libglvnd0 and libegl1 when + they aren't needed; + + b) having libglvnd0/libegl1 installed breaks EGL on Intel-graphics + systems so you get llvmpipe as the video driver. This means you can't + choose Wayland for gnome-shell, but instead are forced into X with + software rendering. + + + Original description: + I upgraded to 18.04 and I no longer get an option to run a wayland session (17.10 offered both the default ubuntu wayland session and xorg on this laptop). gnome-shell runs under the llvmpipe driver. (Unity used to run when I first upgraded, but now gnome-shell is the only option because the gdm login screen offers no login options.) The upgrade did force me to remove bumblebee and nvidia, but afterwards I manually reinstalled bumblebee and nvidia-387 and reset to using intel via prime-select (installing nvidia changes some of the symlinks so that gnome-shell no longer boots, but "sudo prime-select intel" fixes this). The nvidia-387 modules are blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d, and bumblebee isn't reporting any errors - bbswitch reports that the nvidia card is off, so I don't think it's an issue with hybrid graphics. (primusrun does work, as well.) Attached are the mutter logs that I generated via the environment variables mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1724583 comment #20. Hi Steve, Thank you for your response, yes you are right that I was not doing a fresh installation, instead I was overwriting the existing Ubuntu 14.04 installed on my system, keeping apps and documents and settings as it is, that means, not erasing the previously installed Operating System. I think part of the problem was my BIOS settings which had boot type set to UEFI instead of Legacy, I later changed it to Legacy and it successfully installed xUbuntu 16.04 in the second attempt. Although I did not lose any documents and settings but because of the unsuccessful first attempt I lost my apps, which I had to reinstall after my system got ready :o( If BIOS settings is the problem then installation should halt at the very beginning and compel the user to correct it, instead of going ahead with it and exit with an error leaving an unclean installation and loss of user apps. LP #1714319. - * Fix hook script to not print warnings about label.so when using the - ubuntu-text theme. [Bug 1738677] [NEW] Runtime Error: Server Error in '/' Application
Public bug reported: I have not got a clue how to use computers apart from using websites, so all I know is that on 'autism.org.uk' I went back to the Online Community forum page after cancelling a reply, three error panels came up, so I decided, not knowing why, to sign out, and a Runtime Error page remains the case and I can no longer get access to the Online Community forum, whilst all the other options are available. I went on the internet to find out what a runtime error involved, saw some advice about un-installing and re-installing firefox, which I followed via the Ubuntu Software icon, but it made no difference. Hence I reported the problem as is here the case. The system I have is Ubuntu 16.10, with Firefox 54.0 ~ and I cannot for the life of me work out how to install Firefox Quantum as it does not automatically do so. I got the download for FQ, clicked on the box, archive manager comes up ~ and I know not what that involves or how to make use of it. [Bug 1738676] [NEW] With natural scrolling, horizontal sliders behave backwards
Public bug reported: When natural-scrolling is enabled, controlling horizontal sliders is backwards and counter intuitive. The volume control in the top-bar "speaker" icon is backwards. You have to... - scroll DOWN, to INCREASE the volume - scroll UP, to DECREASE the volume Expected behavior: Enable natural-scrolling and - scroll UP, to INCREASE the volume - scroll DOWN, to DECREASE the volume - scroll UP, to INCREASE the screen brightness - scroll DOWN, to DECREASE the screen brightness Enable natural-scrolling, hover over a horizontal slider, and... - scroll UP, to move the slider to the RIGHT - scroll DOWN, to move the slider to the LEFT This happens for the OSD volume icon, and for the volume slider in the topbar menu. This also happens for screen brightness controls. This problem occurs for both mouse natural-scrolling and touchpad natural scrolling. Expected fix: When the pointer hovers over the speaker icon in the scroll actions on the speaker icon in the top bar should be reversed. When the user interacts with a horizontal slider, scrolling to the top should always move the slider to the right, and scrolling down should always move the slider to the left, even if natural-scrolling is enabled. [Bug 1733068] Re: Unmounted USB drives wake up on 16.04
If you want to get more information about what's happening at the USB level, you should use usbmon (see Documentation/usb/usbmon.txt in the kernel source for instructions). It will tell you what commands are being sent to the drive, but not which program is responsible for sending them. Still, you can use it to compare the different Ubuntu releases. (Hint: If you do collect a usbmon trace, it helps to unplug beforehand as many of the other USB devices as you can, to prevent the data streams from getting all mixed together.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733068 Title: Unmounted USB drives wake up on 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1733068/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1738675] [NEW] Deleting every search action in the whisker menu preferences crashes the prefereces
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Open the Whisker Menu preferences. 2. Go to the Search Actions tab. 3. Delete all the existing entries (I did this in descending order). 4. After deleting the last one, the preference window closes. The expected behavior is that the preference window does not close when deleting the last search action entry. When the window closed, I also lost all changes recently made in the time the window was open. I'm just stating this here just in case the program saves periodically instead after each action. [Bug 1738673] [NEW] deluser --backup fails because tar --no-unquote option should be used
Public bug reported: deluser --backup --remove-home (or --remove-all-files) USER aborts if it encounters certain file names, for example the ubiquitous 'C:\nppdf32Log\debuglog.txt' left in Linux home directories by Firefox. The root cause is that 'tar' helpfully "interprets escape sequences" in its filename arguments, so file names containing a backslash followed by 'n' are changed to contain a newline character, and other similar cases. The tar --no-unquote option prevents this. So 'deluser' should pass --no-unquote to 'tar' when creating the backup archive. I'll attach a demo/regression-test script, but in brief: STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. touch '/home/testuser/C:\nppdf32Log\debuglog.txt' 2. deluser --backup --remove-home testuser RESULTS: /bin/tar: /home/.../C\:\nppdf32Log\\debuglog.txt: Cannot stat: No such file or directory (deluser aborts without doing anything except creating an empty archive file) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: adduser 3.113+nmu3ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-19.22-generic 4.13.13 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-19-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.6 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Dec 17 15:20:16 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-12-13 (4 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: adduser UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: adduser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1738673 Title: deluser --backup fails because tar --no-unquote option should be used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adduser/+bug/1738673/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
