[Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read

2018-01-26 Thread Fredrik Jacobsson
Ahh, yes, the resize output area bug, I remember seeing this some months
(a year?) ago. Can't just remember where. Pity you can't browse to see
which bugs you have marked as affect you too.

The bug show itself when the program tries to add more visual space
vertically. The other way around, resizing down, and resizing
horizontally still works.

[Bug 1745510] Re: KDE Loses Sound Devices/Audio

2018-01-26 Thread Sarah Szabo
** Also affects: plasma-pa (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  Brief Version: https://askubuntu.com/questions/995281/audio-devices-
  disappear

  TL;DR: My version of Kubuntu keeps losing audio devices/audio and cannot
  recover, including after reinstalling pavucontrol, alsa, etc. I can't
  figure out how to get this to stop, and is a certain... and very
  persistant bug. I've tried multiple uninstalls, and reinstalls, and
  occasionally, one day after restarting the system, the audio bug is
  present and never goes away again. All attempts to raise volume don't
  work that I've tried. The askubuntu page has more detail, including my
  hardware specs.

  I should also add that the bluetooth connector also has audio problems
  and appears to be broken as well.

+ After recommendation of a person on Kubuntu forums, I have found a
+ temporary fix. Running:
+
+ sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio
+ sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio pulseaudio-module-bluetooth*
+ sudo alsa force-reload
+
+ Seems to work 100% of the time, however, the bug always re-appears.
+ Naturally, this is rather inconvenient, and requires connection to the
+ internet.
+
+ By process of elimination, I have ruled that installing plasma-pa*
+ always causes the bug. Every time plasma-pa* is installed, the bug
+ appears. When it is uninstalled and sudo alsa force-reload is run, sound
+ is always restored. Attempting the reload while plasma-pa* is installed
+ always fails to restore sound.
+
  I can provide stats/logfiles/proof upon demand, just tell me what to do.

[Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries

2018-01-26 Thread Anders Kaseorg
On my bionic system, I had to manually remove resolvconf on account of
bug 1713457. I think it was not being autoremoved because other
packages like isc-dhcp-client, pppconfig, vpnc-scripts have Suggests:
resolvconf.

So I don’t think I’m seeing this particular issue. However, the lack of
resolvconf cooperation means that openconnect run from the command line
fights with systemd-resolved over /etc/resolv.conf. I’m sure that all
kinds of nonsense bugs like that are waiting to be rediscovered.

For the record, I’m still really quite angry at systemd-resolved for a
number of issues that upstream seems to have no interest in addressing.
Its own DNSSEC validation is disabled in Ubuntu because it’s broken (bug
1628778), yet it also breaks DNSSEC validation in applications
downstream of it (https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/4621).  It
breaks ‘dig +trace’ (https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/5897).
It doesn’t work with resolvconf in a sane way. The many previous issues
I’ve had with it took way too long to be addressed. And it does nothing
useful that dnsmasq didn’t do! (I even had NetworkManager’s dnsmasq
configured to to DNSSEC validation and it worked just fine.) I’m not
one of those anti-systemd people who hates change for the sake of hating
change. But systemd-resolved is an actual flaming garbage pile that
needs to be vitrified and launched into the sun.

[Bug 1745703] Re: package libc-bin 2.26-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned

2018-01-26 Thread Stephen Allen
Marked this as invalid. Despite 'Need-Restart' restarting system
services that according to it required that - A reboot seems to have
stopped the cascade of error message apport was firing up. I had even
logged out as user after the upgrade and before all the error messages.

So, as the submitter this particular bug should be closed. Perhaps I
shouldn't be as hasty next time, apport fires up. Note to self: Try
trouble shooting *deeper* Steve.

[Bug 1730399] Re: Add krackattacks mitigation

2018-01-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package wpa - 2:2.6-15ubuntu1

---
wpa (2:2.6-15ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/patches/wpa_service_ignore-on-isolate.patch: add
  IgnoreOnIsolate=yes so that when switching "runlevels" in oem-config
  will not kill off wpa and cause wireless to be unavailable on first
  boot.
- debian/patches/session-ticket.patch: disable the TLS Session Ticket
  extension to fix auth with 802.1x PEAP on some hardware.
- debian/patches/android_hal_fw_path_change.patch: add a DBus method
  for requesting a firmware change when working with the Android HAL;
  this is used to set a device in P2P or AP mode; conditional to
  CONFIG_ANDROID_HAL being enabled.
- debian/config/wpasupplicant/linux: enable CONFIG_ANDROID_HAL.
- debian/control: Build-Depends on android-headers to get the required
  wifi headers for the HAL support.
- debian/patches/dbus-available-sta.patch: Make the list of connected
  stations available on DBus for hotspot mode; along with some of the
  station properties, such as rx/tx packets, bytes, capabilities, etc.
  * Updated debian/patches/dbus-available-sta.patch for new getter API
and refreshed other patches.

wpa (2:2.6-15) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Update debian/control:
- Update Maintainer field to point to $pack...@packages.debian.org
- Update Vcs-* fields to point to salsa.d.o
- Drop no longer active uploaders.

wpa (2:2.6-14) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Replace the PEM fix patch by Lukasz Siudut with an upstream patch.
Thanks to David Benjamin .
  * Apply patches from Beniamino Galvani:
- Fix race condition in detecting MAC address change
- Update MAC address when driver detects a change
  * Disable WNM to resolve a compatibility issue with wl.
Thanks to YOSHINO Yoshihito .
Hopefully really closes: #833507.

wpa (2:2.6-13) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fix a typo in functions.sh (Closes: #883659).

wpa (2:2.6-12) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Add wl to the blacklist for MAC randomisation. (Closes: #833507)
  * Blacklist an out-of-tree driver for Realtek RTL8188EU too.

wpa (2:2.6-11) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Unbreak EAP-TLS.
Thanks to Dmitry Borodaenko

wpa (2:2.6-10) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Mask hostapd every time it has no valid configuration.

wpa (2:2.6-9) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Tell NetworkManager to not touch MAC addresses on unsupported drivers.
Hopefully, this will fix #849077.

wpa (2:2.6-8) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Revert "Build wpa_supplicant with interface matching support."
(Closes: #882716).
  * Drop override_dh_builddeb.
  * Use dh 10.
  * Prevent hostapd from failing on the package install when there
isn't a valid configuration file yet (Closes: #882740):
- Don't enable hostapd.service by default.
- Mask hostapd.service on the first install.

wpa (2:2.6-7) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Upload to unstable.
  * Optional AP side workaround for key reinstallation attacks (LP: #1730399).

wpa (2:2.6-6) experimental; urgency=medium

  [ Reiner Herrmann ]
  * Port wpa_gui to Qt5 (Closes: #875233).

  [ Andrew Shadura ]
  * Add a service file for hostapd.
  * Build wpa_supplicant with interface matching support (Closes: #879208).

  [ Benedikt Wildenhain (BO) ]
  * Install wpa_supplicant-wired@.service (Closes: #871488).

  [ Jan-Benedict Glaw ]
  * Consider all ifupdown configuration, not only /etc/network/interfaces
(Closes: #853293).

wpa (2:2.6-5) experimental; urgency=medium

  [ Yves-Alexis Perez ]
  * Fix multiple issues in WPA protocol (CVE-2017-13077, CVE-2017-13078,
CVE-2017-13079, CVE-2017-13080, CVE-2017-13081, CVE-2017-13082,

[Bug 1745657] Re: Why not the 2.18.16 LTR version for Bionic Beaver?

2018-01-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Because this package is in sync with Debian, it would be nice if
somebody could send the request to the packagers of the software by
following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debian/Bugs . If
you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the
link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1743094] Re: hibernation broken (freezes with resume) in kernel linux-image-4.13.0-26-generic

Looking at Dirk Bachmann's comment #23 I did a:

gitlog Ubuntu-4.13.0-18.21..Ubuntu-4.13.0-25.29

That shows the major changes are the x86/mm PTI patches to address the
Meltdown issue.

Dirk: can you boot 4.13.0-25 with the kernel command-line option "nopti"
and do your hibernate/resume tests and report back?

[Bug 1745696] [NEW] partman hangs when partman-basicfilesystems/no_swap set and no LVM swap partition provided in expert recipe

2018-01-26 Thread Chris McCoy
Public bug reported:

partman hangs when partman-basicfilesystems/no_swap is set to true and
no LVM swap partition provided in expert recipe.

* Conditions:

Ubuntu 16.04.3LTS,

Preseed configured with:

d-i partman-basicfilesystems/no_swap boolean true

d-i partman-partitioning/confirm_write_new_label boolean true
d-i partman/choose_partition select finish
d-i partman/confirm boolean true
d-i partman/confirm_nooverwrite boolean true
d-i partman-partitioning/default_label string gpt
d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda
d-i partman-auto/method string lvm
d-i partman-lvm/device_remove_lvm boolean true
d-i partman-md/device_remove_md boolean true
d-i partman-lvm/confirm boolean true
d-i partman-lvm/confirm_nooverwrite boolean true
d-i partman-auto-lvm/new_vg_name string flexflash
d-i partman-auto/choose_recipe select partlayout
d-i partman-auto-lvm/guided_size string max
d-i partman-auto/expert_recipe string \
   partlayout :: \

 $lvmok{ } \
 lv_name{ root } \
 method{ format } \
 format{ } \
 use_filesystem{ } \
 filesystem{ xfs } \
 mountpoint{ / } \
 .

* Issue

I believe the bug is caused by inverted return boolean in:

/lib/partman/check.d/10check_swap

if ! $swap; then
db_input critical partman-basicfilesystems/no_swap || true
db_go || true
db_get partman-basicfilesystems/no_swap
if [ "$RET" = true ]; then
exit 1
fi
fi

Shouldn't script return 0/true when swap not found but partman-
basicfilesystems/no_swap is set to true?

* Workaround

d-i partman/early_command string sh -c 'sed -i "s^exit 1^exit 0^"
/lib/partman/check.d/10check_swap; echo "exit 1" >>
/lib/partman/check.d/10check_swap'

[Bug 1695666] Re: users shoot themselves in the foot by removing /boot/efi from /etc/fstab; u-r-u should warn and refuse to let them upgrade

2018-01-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-release-upgrader - 1:18.04.6

---
ubuntu-release-upgrader (1:18.04.6) bionic; urgency=medium

  * DistUpgradeFetcherKDE.py:
- ensure theming is correct across all Qt versions and Plasma versions
- drop unused openUrl helper (replaced by QUrlOpener)
  * QUrlOpener.py:
- make sure to pass --set-home to sudo when dropping back to user, prevents
  browsers from getting confused which HOME to use
  * DistUpgradeViewKDE.py:
- force KDE theming for Qt5
- fix icon & pixmap lookup by running them throw a compatibility helper
  using either Qt3/4 static lookup or Qt5 theme-based lookup (theme is
  determined by the QPA ideally)
- let name mangling use os-release' PRETTY_NAME if present
- do not resize windows, adjustsize() them (same as resize albeit readable)
- introduce an override for QWidget.adjustSize() which prevents adjustment
  iff the window is maximized. as noted in the documentation adjusting a
  maximized yields unexpected results due to a control mismatch between
  X11 window managers and Qt (in short: Qt cannot unmaximize, so adjustsize
  does nothing useful in this case and in fact causes only part of the
  window to be marked dirty by Qt causing sever rendering artifacts)

[Bug 1665099] Re: package libnss-resolve:amd64 231-9ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: O pacote está num mau estado de inconsistência; deve reinstala-lo antes de tentar configura-lo.

2018-01-26 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to improve Ubuntu.

Unfortunately, this bug report does not include enough information to
tell us what caused this package to originally end up in an inconsistent
state. This bug report is by now quite old, so it's likely you no
longer have logs that would tell us more; but if you do have the
original package manager logs, please attach them to this bug report and
set its state back to 'new'.

[Bug 1745692] [NEW] Removable storage device not detected as block device

2018-01-26 Thread Dylan Bartlett
Public bug reported:

Since updating to the 4.13.0 kernel line I have had bad behaviour from USB
storage devices. After a reboot the first time I plug a flash drive in, Ubuntu
mounts the drive normally. If I eject the drive and try to insert the drive
again them Ubuntu does not automatically mount it, and I cannot mount it
manually from the terminal.
If I boot onto a kernel from the 4.10.0 line then the system behaves as
expected.
I have installed the latest mainline kernel which is 4.14.15 and have observed
the same issue.

2018-01-26 Thread Colin Leroy
GNOME devs accepted my patch upstream. I made a debdiff to fix the Ubuntu
package .Now we're just waiting for an Ubuntu dev with some motivation to fix
this.
Chris is right. This regression *in an LTS release even!* and the time it takes
to fix it is awfully long.

[Bug 1745646] Re: Battery drain when laptop off (shutdown) , WOL disabled , no usb device connected

2018-01-26 Thread TJ
The TPM (Trusted Platform Module) ACPI device isn't know by the v4.13
kernel. Support for it was introduced with commit 4cb586a18 in v4.14 so
it should be supported by the 18.04 kernel once it is rebased to v4.15,
and will eventually be available to 16.04 as the package: linux-image-
lowlatency-hwe-16.04-edge.

git describe --contains 4cb586a18
v4.14-rc2~6^2~34

It's possible the TPM is active and not using power-saving modes when
the system is shutdown since Linux v4.13 doesn't know how to manage it
(but it'll have been enabled by the firmware at boot time). This could
explain why Windows doesn't see the same issue if it's TMP driver puts
the device to sleep.

I'll review the disassembled DSDT/SSDTs later and leave remarks if I
notice anything else that could be the culprit.

Okay, i created a respinned ubuntu 16.04 iso with a mainline

So if i just push the suspend button instead of closing the lid, i can wake up
the device.
And the touchpad starts working after waking up.
Movement works
Tap works
Left/Right button not

Looks like this issue is really the same as the other bugreport what you

[Bug 1745689] [NEW] Disable VM guest boot with '-no-acpi' on nvdimm systems

2018-01-26 Thread Paul Lai
Public bug reported:

Description of problem:
  Starting qemu-kvm with '-no-acpi' should fail on systems with nvdimm

Environment:
KVM:kvm-next-4.14.0_rc4-61d75077_4ffa88c9_20171113092427
Base OS: Fedora release 25
Guest OS: Fedora release 25
Platform: SKL-2S

Reproduce steps:
1.Setup the AEP with 1-1-1 configuration on SKL-2S
2.Install Fedora25 on SKL host with ISO(Image
path:http://linux-ftp.sh.intel.com/pub/mirrors/fedora/linux/releases/25/)
3.Create the guest with the command:qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -smp 8 -m
16G,slots=32,maxmem=96G -cpu host -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=nic0,mac=52:54:00:65:92:66 -netdev
tap,id=nic0,script=/etc/kvm/qemu-ifup -drive
file=/opt/sector.qcow2,if=virtio,id=virtio-disk0,format=qcow2 -M q35,nvdimm
-object memory-backend-file,id=mem1,share,mem-path=/dev/pmem4,size=32G -device
nvdimm,memdev=mem1,id=nv1,label-size=128k -no-acpi)

Expect result:
With no-acpi option, guest shall not be created, qemu report error, no host
crash or call trace happens
Actual result:
Guest could bootup but the no pmem device under the /dev/

Fix is in qemu commit:
  8cd91acec8 pc: fail memory hot-plug/unplug with -no-acpi and Q35 machine type
