Subject: [PATCH] powerpc/watchdog: remove arch_trigger_cpumask_backtrace

The powerpc NMI IPIs may not be recoverable if they are taken in
some sections of code, and also there have been and still are issues
with taking NMIs (in KVM guest code, in firmware, etc) which makes them
a bit dangerous to use.

Generic code like softlockup detector and rcu stall detectors really
hammer on trigger_*_backtrace, which has lead to further problems
because we've implemented it with the NMI.

So stop providing NMI backtraces for now. Importantly, the powerpc code
uses NMI IPIs in crash/debug, and the SMP hardlockup watchdog. So if the
softlockup and rcu hang detection traces are not being printed because
the CPU is stuck with interrupts off, then the hard lockup watchdog
should get it with the NMI IPI.

Fixes: 2104180a5369 ("powerpc/64s: implement arch-specific hardlockup watchdog")

[Bug 1762113] Re: Tools no longer work against hardware TPM device on e.g. Intel NUC's tpm_crb driver on recent kernels

2018-04-10 Thread Antti S. Lankila
I'm adding a comment here as I have new information. I discovered a
tpm_crb-driven tpm implementation on a laptop running Bionic (ASUS
ZenBook UX360CAK). Now that I happened to test tpm2-tools on it, I
discovered that:

- tpm2_getrandom worked on it,
- tpm2_listpcrs also worked.

The /dev/tpm0 device behaves as it used to, e.g. writing a command
request sends back a response, not an echo of the request. Therefore, I
am making the following conclusions:

- tpm2-tools itself is fine,
- tpm_crb driver per se is probably fine, though there likely is a bug in linux
kernel somewhere,
- /dev/tpm0 is still programmed the same way, by writing requests and reading
responses.

The target hardware where things still don't work is an Intel NUC 6CAYB.

(And pulling the power cord on my laptop doesn't reboot or even shutdown
the computer, so I don't think it's a good comparison. Holding the power
button down for ten seconds is a better comparison, but it's still not a
good one because reboot acts immediately, not after you confirm it by
typing it in ten times or something.)

[Bug 1746327] Re: [MIR] libfastjson

2018-04-10 Thread Seth Arnold
The tarball appears to have different contents than the git tree:

- The README.md file is missing entirely

What's left over isn't ideal:

- The README.html file still claims to be json-c
- The README is entirely blank

I'm not excited that the files in our package are still claiming to be
json-c, a completely different source package, nor do they accurately
reflect the contents of the git tree.

The README.md claims:

> IMPORTANT The current API is not stable and will change until version
> 1.0.0 is reached. We plan to reach it by summer 2016 at latest. With
> 1.0.0, the API will be stable. Until then, everything may change. Of
> course, we will not deliberatly break things but we need freedom to
> restructure.

I'm worried that we're about to start a five year support release and
include a new-to-us library that is apparently not stabilized. I don't
know if we should be comforted by the fact that it's had no development
work for five months or worried that it's had no development for five
months.

It feels like no one's closely inspected this package yet.

I realize it's really late in the cycle to ask the question, but should
rsyslog and dependencies be moved to universe? We recently enabled the
systemd persistent journal, and we at one point intended to use the
systemd-journal-remote package: 1488341.

I'll give the rest of the code in this package a fair shot, but I wanted
to raise the possibility of a different path entirely just for
completeness.

Thanks

snapd-glib 1.39-0ubuntu1 has the change. I did manage to make a test

to get GNOME Software to do the same thing by using it. Hopefully it
will fix it!
