[Bug 1769416] Re: Can't login on 18.04 after entering wrong password

2018-05-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1769416/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1768961] Re: xdg user-dirs not being read/stored correctly for desktop icon in left panel

2018-05-05 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I changed $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dirs so that
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop/foobar" and everything seems to behave
fine, so I can't replicate your experience, which makes it hard to fix.
Could you start with a fresh system (maybe a virtual machine) and come
up with some clear steps?

Barring that, you might bark up the tree of libqt5xdg3 but there's
nothing about it, from what I can tell, that deals with the Desktop
directory different than any others.

[Bug 1768970] Re: Bionic: ubuntu-bug / apport not present

2018-05-05 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Lubuntu Next was never officially released, even though we had
beta/alpha versions. Additionally, the idea of having both a LXDE and
LXQt image is something we will not be continuing for the Cosmic cycle.
Instead, we will be switching over to LXQt entirely. It will most
certainly have apport in it, though we will need to do some packaging
work on the Qt frontend (apport-kde) as it's a little less Qt and a
little more KDE. That said, I've co-opted this bug for that purpose.

[Bug 1769423] Re: Xbox One S Bluetooth Controller Won't Connect

2018-05-05 Thread paddy
Solution: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=219471

The problem seems to be with ertm. Disabling this works fantastically.

echo 1 > /sys/module/bluetooth/parameters/disable_ertm works on a single
session

If you want a better solution to disable bluetooth ertm, then edit
/etc/default/grub and add the kernel flag 'bluetooth.disable_ertm=1' to
the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line. Then run 'sudo grub-mkconfig -o
/boot/grub/grub.cfg' and reboot.

works even on multiple reboots.

[Bug 1758821] Re: VLC memory leak & crash after playing a few videos

2018-05-05 Thread Yatta Sovr
** Description changed:

When playing videos with VLC, I noticed that the memory usage only
increases when going from movie to movie. After a few videos have been
played, the window stops drawing and audio keeps playing, but any

hangs itself in the background until killed from the system monitor.
This happens every single time I use it, without fail, and it's

[Bug 1769421] [NEW] [18.04] [Bionic]drm_kms_helper causes long delay at boot

2018-05-05 Thread Scott Testerman
Public bug reported:

System upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 experiences long delays at boot --
generally 4-5 minutes. The same system experienced no significant
delays prior to the upgrade. dmesg reports problems with
drm_kms_helper.

Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04
linux-generic:
  Installed: 4.15.0.20.23
  Candidate: 4.15.0.20.23

 *** 4.15.0.20.23 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected to happen:
System boots in reasonable amount of time, consistent with prior LTS release.

What happened:
System is very slow to boot, on the order of several minutes to reach a login
screen.

[Bug 1769420] [NEW] Odd lxqt-config-file-associations for .jpg and .pdf

2018-05-05 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I have Lubuntu Next 18.04

I do not know if the Lubuntu team modifies the file associations to match the
release,
or if the file associations are an LXQt default and are left intact until the
user
installs the Distro and modifies them.
I don't even know if the associations are modified if one installs (or removes)
an application package.
Therefore, I don't know if this is the right place to report this or not.

At some point after I installed Lubuntu Next, and some favorite
applications to supplement or replace those in the default install, I
noticed some strange file associations...

A .pdf file currently is associated with LibreOffice Draw (which is unable to
open it, and reports "This PDF file is encrypted and can't be opened. ")
I would have expected an association with qpdfview (which opens the file just
fine, as expected).

Although I have since apparently fixed it, .jpg files were associated with
Firefox.
Since Firefox was not originally installed, I might guess that the association
was with a generic browser, which originally pointed to Falkon, but which the
installation of Firefox then switched to that browser.
In any event, I might have expected an association with LXImage, as that is
LXQt's image viewer.

[There also was some weird association with e-book-viewer(or -editor), but I
negligently managed not to write that down. It either was .txt or .odt]

[Bug 1769416] [NEW] Can't login on 18.04 after entering wrong password

2018-05-05 Thread Szabolcs Andrasi
Public bug reported:

Hello,

so I just installed Ubuntu 18.04LTS on my computer ( HP Spectre x360 15
), running in dual boot mode with windows 10, everything went well
during the installation, the only problem I encountered is, if I type a
wrong password and then I type the correct password, the desktop never
loads... I waited like 20 minutes if anything would show up, but
nothing, I can just see the cursor and the wallpaper nothing else, I had
to manually turn off/on the computer multiple times, in order to see the
boot manager again.

If I enter the correct password at the first attempt, the desktop loads
and everything works just fine.

I think this bug is actually surprisingly a duplicate of bug 1644021
which we fixed in the PPA several months ago.

[Bug 1711337] Re: Firefox crashes at start on armv7L after 55.0.1 update

2018-05-05 Thread James Donald
Lars, I went to sites like Gmail or Youtube that I thought had a chance
of using optional NaCl, but I haven't been able to reproduce those error
messages. I don't think Firefox supports NaCl, even with a plugin. Is it
possible you imported browser settings from Chromium and it happened to
include their NaCl extension? You could rule this out by moving or
deleting ~/.mozilla/firefox then trying again.

herrtimson, an illegal instruction would indicate your system lacks NEON
or ARMv7 altogether, the same reason Firefox does not run on ARMv6
boards like Raspberry Pi B+ or Pi Zero. To check, cat /proc/cpuinfo

There's also a chance that ungültiger maschienenbefehl means bad
interpreter or not in executable format / File format not recognized.
You can troubleshoot this with the ldd and file commands. Compare
properties of /usr/lib/firefox/firefox to any working command under
/usr/bin

> Oh, and how do I revert this to the ubuntu one? *_*

sudo apt-get purge firefox
sudo apt-get install firefox

[Bug 1572061] Re: login sessions hangs in lxc

2018-05-05 Thread Stanislav Sinyagin
I have exactly the same problem on my host. Host OS: Debian 8.10.
Container OS: Debian 9.4

I started "/usr/sbin/sshd -d -p 8022", and when I connected to it from
another host, the process has hung with the latest log message:

debug1: rexec start in 5 out 5 newsock 5 pipe -1 sock 8

Also strace shows a similar line:

# strace -p 12014
strace: Process 12014 attached
sendto(3, "<39>May 6 02:42:08 sshd[12014]:"..., 94, MSG_NOSIGNAL, NULL, 0

Then while this was hanging, I did "apt-get remove inetutils-syslogd",
and the SSH session immediately went through.

But RDP client still cannot connect to xrdp running in this container.
I'll keep watching it after a reboot.

[Bug 1752961] Re: With kernel 4.13 btrfs scans for devices before all devices have been discovered

2018-05-05 Thread Carl Reinke
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected apport-hook-error bionic

** Description changed:

See attached dmesg outputs for booting kernels 4.11.x (working) and
  4.13.x (not working).

dmesg-4.11.0-14-good.txt shows the dmesg output when booting kernel 4.11.x.
btrfs scans for devices after all 4 (sda, sdb, sdc, sdd) of the devices have
been discovered by the kernel. The btrfs RAID1 filesystem mounts, and
everything is good.

dmesg-4.13.0-36-fail.txt shows the dmesg output when booting kernel 4.13.x.
btrfs scans for devices after only 2 (sda, sdb) of the devices have been
discovered by the kernel. The btrfs RAID1 filesystem fails to mount ("failed
to read the system array: -5"). The remaining 2 devices (sdc, sdd) are
discovered by the kernel immediately afterward. At the end of the log, I run
`btrfs device scan` and mount the filesystem manually.

[Bug 1765911] Re: Major performance regression from Ubuntu 17.10 with i915

2018-05-05 Thread Jacob Zimmermann
UPDATE: I installed kernel 4.16.7 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/ and things get much better. Not as good as it was on 17.10
but largely usable. Some regression in the i915 driver must have
occurred in 4.15 and now it's catching up again apparently.

[Bug 1769409] [NEW] Support for global menu

2018-05-05 Thread Dimitrij Mijoski
Public bug reported:

The move to Gnome from Unity was ok except for two major features that
got lost and those are global menus and pixel saving when maximized.

Are there any chances of official support in future releases?

Gnome extension for global menus exists https://github.com/lestcape
/Gnome-Global-AppMenu and that may be used as a starting point. The
Ubuntu team already did similar move by including the plugin dash-to-
dock.

[Bug 1769406] Re: no pwsafe tray icon in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-05-05 Thread Bill Duetschler
** Description changed:

Xubuntu Bionic 18.04 packages PasswordSafe 1.04. This version of
PasswordSafe has a bug where the application does not create an icon in
  the system tray.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start passwordsafe and open a password database.
  2. Wait for passwordsafe to lock the database.
  3. Dismiss the dialogue box that asks you to unlock the database.
  4. There is no icon in the system tray or notification area.

The tray icon is needed in order to unlock the database again.
Therefore, the application is unusable without the tray icon.

Manually installing version 1.02 from the Password Safe website via dpkg
- used to work, but it does no longer. dpkg complains that libxerces-c3.1
- is not available. libxerces-c3.2 is in fact installed with Bionic but
- does not satisfy the dependency in the version 1.02 .deb downloaded from
- the Password Safe website.
+ used to work as a workaround, but it does no longer. dpkg complains
+ that libxerces-c3.1 is not available. libxerces-c3.2 is in fact
+ installed with Bionic but does not satisfy the dependency in the version
+ 1.02 .deb downloaded from the Password Safe website.

This appears to be due to PasswordSafe bug #1443:

[Bug 1727356] Re: Wayland does not start up on "Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) G33": Shader compilation failed

2018-05-05 Thread Traumflug
With 18.04 the situation got worse. Apparently, the login screen tries
to run now on Wayland as well, so the opportunity to turn it off is
gone. Booting simply stops at the Ubuntu logo, with the first of these
five dots filled.

Booting in recovery mode, then choosing 'continue'(?) gives a black
screen most of the time, with some text blinking up shortly from time to
time. Managed to catch it, see attached picture.

The only way I could get this PC up running after the 18.04 upgrade was
to boot into recovery mode, then get a root shell, then edit
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf to remove the comment sign in front of
WaylandEnable..., then reboot.

[Bug 1768961] Re: xdg user-dirs not being read/stored correctly for desktop icon in left panel

2018-05-05 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
I just noticed that ScreenGrab, in its Browse for default save directory,
does exactly the same thing:
Desktop under "Places" comes up as directory buttons (each of the following is
its own button):
/ home scott " data scott Desktop"

Note that there is a directory button containing only the quote character, and
that the last directory has the name Desktop with attached quote mark on the
end.

I have to assume that both programs PCManFM and ScreenGrab utilize the same
routine for scanning for user directories, and that that routine is what is
screwing up "Desktop".

What is that routine, and where is it located (what pkg), so that I can
point this bug report in the right direction?

[Bug 1769285] Re: package nginx-full 1.14.0-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed nginx-full package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward via ubuntu-bugs
Relevant output from your logs (you can find these next time by doing
`systemctl -l status nginx`:

may 04 20:48:43 datamonserv nginx[4084]: nginx: [emerg] a duplicate default
server for 0.0.0.0:80 in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default:22
may 04 20:48:43 datamonserv nginx[4084]: nginx: configuration file
/etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed

Basically, you have the 'default' site and another site somewhere loaded
before the 'default' site, and the other site has `default_server`
defined in its config. Pick one to be the default server or just remove
the `/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default` symlink and you should be good to
go.

[Bug 1769285] Re: package nginx-full 1.14.0-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed nginx-full package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-05-05 Thread Thomas Ward via ubuntu-bugs
This isn't a bug this is because you have two sites configured with the
`listen 80 default_server;` line defined.

You can only have `default_server` defined once. You need to go through
your individual sites listed in `/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/` and
`/etc/nginx/nginx.conf` and `/etc/nginx/conf.d/` that you have
configured and find the two `default_server` lines that you've
configured, and pick *one* of them to be the default server. Then
remove `default_server` from the other one.

(End-user configuration problems like this one are not package bugs,
marking it as Invalid)

[Bug 1769406] [NEW] no pwsafe tray icon in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-05-05 Thread Bill Duetschler
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu Bionic 18.04 packages PasswordSafe 1.04. This version of
PasswordSafe has a bug where the application does not create an icon in
the system tray.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start passwordsafe and open a password database.
2. Wait for passwordsafe to lock the database.
3. Dismiss the dialogue box that asks you to unlock the database.
4. There is no icon in the system tray or notification area.

The tray icon is needed in order to unlock the database again.
Therefore, the application is unusable without the tray icon.

Manually installing version 1.02 from the Password Safe website via dpkg
used to work, but it does no longer. dpkg complains that libxerces-c3.1
is not available. libxerces-c3.2 is in fact installed with Bionic but
does not satisfy the dependency in the version 1.02 .deb downloaded from
the Password Safe website.

This appears to be due to PasswordSafe bug #1443:
https://sourceforge.net/p/passwordsafe/bugs/1443/

[Bug 1769405] [NEW] In GTK+ Look-And-Feel, Slider Controls Have No Visible Handle

2018-05-05 Thread Aere Greenway
Public bug reported:

When using the GTK+ look-and-feel, slider controls have no visible
handle you can click-on with the mouse, and drag.

If you click in the slider area below the displayed number, and drag, it
acts like there is a handle there, but you just can't see it.

I expected to see a visible slider control handle in the GTK+ look-and-
feel, which happens on the Nimbus and Metal look-and-feel (I didn't try
others), but it is not visible in the GTK+ look-and-feel.

[Bug 1755951] Re: forcepae option doesn't work for ubuntu-mate 18.04 beta

2018-05-05 Thread Glenn Brumfield
This bug was filed for ubuntu-mate 18.04 beta. Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 release
boots and runs on my Banias Pentium-M with the 'forcepae' boot option
entered after the '---' (interrupt boot by pressing F6, press 'Escape'
to type in boot options). Interestingly, Virtualbox still seems to need
'PAE/NX' checked for the DVD or iso to boot. I don't know if this is due
to 18.04 or due to Virtualbox. I think we can call this bug squashed!

It is an additional report.

When I use Docklet's "Recent Documents" in Docky, "Docky" suddenly ends.
This is the same. However, in the past, ".crash" file was created, but
now ".crash" file is no longer created.

Instead, when I start "docky" from the terminal, a trace message is
displayed on the terminal. (#5)for details.

I suspect you could make some forward progress by doing apt-get purge on
all the mariadb and mysql packages before trying again.

Thanks

[Bug 1650989] Re: pinentry-gnome3 breaks gpg-agent

2018-05-05 Thread niknah
In ubuntu 18.04 it doesn't ask for the pin when I'm logged in via ssh
without a DISPLAY= variable.

Tried adding "pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-curses" to ~/.gnupg
/gpg-agent.conf but it didn't help.

I had to remove pinentry-gnome3 to get gpg working when logged in via
ssh.

[Bug 1769404] [NEW] grub-installer fails during installation

2018-05-05 Thread Yevhen
Public bug reported:

I choose to install Ubuntu 18.04 on /dev/sdb without opening advanced
partitioning tool. I expect grub to be installed on same partition. But
it seems grub-installer tries to install grub on /dev/sda by default. It
fails to do so.

The workaround I found is to open advanced partitioning tool, change
grub installation partition to /dev/sdb, go back, and again choose
Ubuntu installation on /dev/sdb

Also missing is dependency on package python3-protobuf and
python3-axolotl (or python-protobuf and python-axolotl for Python 2)

Note that for the registration, the error

status: fail
reason: old_version

is solved with using the option -E android

[Bug 1769403] [NEW] USB devices (trackball and PS2-to-usb keyboard) freeze in Ubuntu Mate 16.04.4 , and DELL latitude

2018-05-05 Thread KP
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am facing the problem that is similar to the one described in the
thread: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2342985

Laptop (Dell Latitude 6420) randomly stops responding to the usb
Trackball and Keyboard. Unplugging & plugging them back into a different
port does not fix the problem. Sometimes the problem is fixed after
rebooting or suspending the laptopo, then turning it on; but the problem
re-appears almost immediately - after 10".

The problem is related to the Logitech trackman wheel & Mircosoft PS2
Keyboard, both are old.

Command "lsusb" for the 2 devices gives:
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 046d:c404 Logitech, Inc. TrackMan Wheel
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0a81:0205 Chesen Electronics Corp. PS/2 Keyboard+Mouse
Adapter

Command "tlp-stat -u" for the 2 devices gives:
Bus 002 Device 005 ID 046d:c404 control = on, autosuspend_delay_ms = -1000 --
Logitech, Inc. TrackMan Wheel (usbhid)
Bus 002 Device 006 ID 0a81:0205 control = on, autosuspend_delay_ms = -1000 --
Chesen Electronics Corp. PS/2 Keyboard+Mouse Adapter (usbhid)

Command "uname -ra" gives:
Linux dell 4.13.0-39-generic #44~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 5 16:43:10 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This problem tends to be very frustrating.

note: I think this is not related with autosuspend, but rather with
buffer overflow for the specific devices due to that they are not
supported in the kernel code.

Regards
