[Bug 1787405] libvirt patches for vfio-ap support

2018-11-19 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From boris_fiuczyn...@de.ibm.com 2018-11-20 02:21
EDT---

This file contains the changes required for the vfio-ap support in libvirt
based on the code level Christian Erhard provided in comment 62.
The list of required backported code needed to be extended and the second patch
Christian provided required some changes.

It also turned out that appamor prevents access to the vfio-ap devices
located in /dev/vfio/*. I changed (hacked) the patch for LP1775777 to
bypass the problem temporally. This certainly needs to be adjusted in
the correct way which I am not certain of.

Update: when I tried locking the screen while mirroring my laptop and
external monitor, it failed (needed to be locked twice, dock
disappeared, etc.). When extending the displays, locking works
correctly.

[Bug 1192613] Re: libHYPRE.so is not linked to other libHYPRE* libs

2018-11-19 Thread Drew Parsons
Hi Alexander, Luke, as you have noticed there is no specific Ubuntu
maintainer for HYPRE. The package is rebuilt directly from the
underlying Debian version. Debian has a separate workflow from Ubuntu,
and a separate bug tracking system. This situation is the same for most
packages in the Ubuntu universe archive, the packages fully managed by
Ubuntu are the ones in Ubuntu main.

Your problem was reported in Debian bug#902102, and will be fixed in
2.15.1-1exp1.

[Bug 1803929] Re: Summary: Kernel bug (unhandled paging request) on "udisksctl power-off"

2018-11-19 Thread Matt C
Yes, it only started occurring within the last few weeks/month.

I can confirm that booting the previous (but still installed) kernel,
fixes the problem.

$ uname -a
Linux metabox 4.4.0-138-generic #164-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 2 17:16:02 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

That kernel works for me, so the issue must be in the "139" version.

I did not try the latest upstream kernel because I have NVIDIA drivers
and Virtualbox installed and I'd rather not go through the hassle of
uninstalling all custom modules, if I can avoid it.

Do you still need me to try the latest upstream?

[Bug 1804134] Re: LibreOffice Writer Won't Run on Pentium-4 32-bit Computer

2018-11-19 Thread Olivier Tilloy
That's very likely a duplicate of bug #1699772.

To confirm this, can you run the following command in a terminal:

sed -i '/enabled/c\false<\/enabled>'
~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/config/javasettings_Linux_*.xml

Then execute libreoffice writer and let me know if the crash is still
happening? Thanks!

[For the record, that command disables the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) in
libreoffice, which is known to cause crashes on 32bits processors. Some
functions of libreoffice won't work without Java (the most visible probably
being libreoffice base), but most of the office suite should work just fine.]

Great and the "ACPI: IRQ 7 override to edge, high" message is gone. So
you've proven my theory.

Now I need to improve the commit message and then this patch can be
submitted upstream.

This error happens because your patch only fixes the mis-detection of the IRQ.
There ist still https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199529 which needs
also bei fixed to get the touchscreen work.
One half of my Patch hides the affected code, so the gpio driver can probe
successfully.

[Bug 1752437]

2018-11-19 Thread jwrdegoede
First if all thank you Lukas, for pinpointing the problem. I don't see
any really obvious nice answer here.

So I believe it is best to override the IRQ type manually in the AMD
gpio driver to correct the acpi_get_override_irq() results from the ACPI
core.

I've attached a patch doing this to bug 199523.

If someone who is seeing this issue can build and test a kernel with
that patch (replacing Lukas patch) that would be great. To be clear
please drop Lukas' patch when testing mine!

If you test my patch, please provide the output of "dmesg" directly
after boot and let me know if the patch fixes things (makes/keeps the
touchscreen working).

Thank you for testing. These 2 lines in the log seem to be the problem,
these happen before my patch even comes into play:

[1.445982] amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22
[1.446019] amd_gpio: probe of AMDI0030:00 failed with error -22

With -22 being -EINVAL.

Taking a closer look at things here I think I know what is going on
here.

[Bug 1752437]

2018-11-19 Thread jwrdegoede

> This error happens because your patch only fixes the mis-detection of the
> IRQ. There ist still https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199529
> which needs also bei fixed to get the touchscreen work.

Right, I figured that out now, actually I believe that with your hack to
drivers/acpi/resource.c the changes you made to drivers/base/platform.c
should no longer be necessary.

We've been looking at the wrong part of the DSDT the culprit is not:

Interrupt (ResourceConsumer, Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ,, )
{
0x0007,
}

This uses an extended interrupt syntax, so acpi_dev_get_irqresource() gets
called with legacy == false and the troublesome acpi_get_override_irq()
never happens.

I believe the real culprit is:

Scope (_SB.PCI0)
{
Device (SMBD)
{
Name (_HID, "SMB0001") // _HID: Hardware ID
Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () // _CRS: Current Resource Settings
{
IO (Decode16,
0x0B20, // Range Minimum
0x0B20, // Range Maximum
0x20,   // Alignment
0x20,   // Length
)
IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, )
{7}
})
}
}

Which does use a legacy style IRQ resource, this causes
acpi_dev_get_irqresource() to be called with legacy == true and then the
troublesome acpi_get_override_irq() happens.

I believe that this troublesome node gets parsed before the AMDI0030
node and then by the time the AMDI0030 node happens, inside
acpi_dev_get_irqresource() we hit the else of:

irq = acpi_register_gsi(NULL, gsi, triggering, polarity);
if (irq >= 0) {
res->start = irq;
res->end = irq;
} else {
acpi_dev_irqresource_disabled(res, gsi);
}

Which sets the DISABLED flag, which is causing the issue in
drivers/base/platform.c . The reason we hit the else path is because of
the earlier enumeration of the same interrupt with conflicting trigger /
polarity settings so the second one fails with -EBUSY (it would work if
the flags would match).

My new attempt deals with this by adding the "SMB0001" HID to the
blacklist for creating platform devices, so that
acpi_dev_get_resources() does not get called on it at all, avoiding the
call of acpi_dev_get_irqresource() with legacy == false.

The not creating of a platform_device for the "SMB0001" HID is not an
issue since the driver for it is an acpi bus driver not a platform bus
driver.

[PATCH] ACPI / platform: Add SMB0001 HID to forbidden_id_list

Ok second attempt, a completely different patch which I think actually
is better (if it works).

Please give this one a try (without any other patches for this same
issue).

Again please attach dmesg output.

If this patch does not fix things, then also please attach the output
of:

ls /sys/bus/platform/devices

I would like the output of that command for both a kernel without the
patch as well as for one with the patch.

[Bug 1804137] [NEW] Font-Manager does not allow custom prevew text

2018-11-19 Thread Sasha
Public bug reported:

In 18.04.

Allowing custom preview text is absolutely crucial for a font preview
tool, and it's been something font-manager has always had.

It's so easy to implement, I can't see any no reason to remove such an
important feature.

As FontMatrix is long since dead, there is now no way to view a custom
text when deciding what font to install or use, a crucial feature for
graphic design work.

** Affects: font-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1792144] Re: missing patch for i915 in 4.15.0-33-generic => black screen on boot

2018-11-19 Thread redger via ubuntu-bugs
I have the same bug on a similar motherboard - Asrock j4105-itx (j4105 CPU,
asmedia asm1061, realtek rtl8111h)
After the boot sequence
KUbuntu 18.04 fully updated to Nov-19-2018
Bios 4.0.0.1245Intel GOP  13.0.1011

I doubt this is the same as the freedesktop 105549 bug since the
hardware is quite different (no lspcon chip on this motherboard)

Also note that the problem only arises when a disk is connected to one
of the asmedia sata ports on this motherboard. If no disk on asmedia all
is good. No HDMI or DVI screen if disk on asmedia port

Windows (8.1) does not experience this issue BUT does not have
drivers for this chip at all (Vesa only)> I don't currently have access
to Windows 10

When the VGA port is connected to a screen then BOTH the vga and hdmi /
dvi screens are active ie. the hdmi / dvi output is live if vga
simultaneously connected ... though vga is primary

May be spurious, but fwiw, under these conditions ... The system will
not power down correctly (even if both VGA and hdmi / dvi connected).
Powerdown seems to stop after a message about "ata3 SError" "failed
command STANDBY IMMEDIATE" and then a manual power off is required

Any debug data I can provide ?

"Send" button, the window disappeared without doing anything.

If I run LibreOffice Writer directly from the menu, I get a frame of its
window (with nothing filled-in inside), which persists for awhile, and
then disappears.

In either case, no error message appears, and nothing further happens.

LibreOffice Calc, on the other hand, appears to run, though I haven't
tried any spreadsheet using it.

I expected LibreOffice Writer to initialize, and then use it for editing
documents (as it did on Lubuntu 16.04), but the LibreOffice Writer
window disappeared.

The same problem occurred on a Dell GX-260 computer.

[Bug 1804130] [NEW] package initramfs-tools 0.130ubuntu3.5 failed to install/upgrade: installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-11-19 Thread Ryan Budney
Public bug reported:

This happened on a near-fresh install of 18.04 on a new computer. I was
having trouble getting the NVIDIA proprietary drivers working. So I did
quite a bit of install/uninstall cycles, failing to get the NVIDIA
drivers working. I couldn't seem to get the NVIDIA drivers to work.

I just recently discovered the reason -- I had the UEFI secure boot
setup. So I disabled UEFI using the mokutil --disable-validation
command. This crash occured on a system reboot. I imagine I can fix my
setup from here. I'll update the thread, regardless of the outcome.

I think perhaps Ubuntu would benefit from a warning, during the
installation process that UEFI secure boot can cause problems such as
this. Also, when installing NVIDIA drivers with the "Software and
Updates" GUI, there should be some indication of the problems if the
UEFI secure boot is enabled. Perhaps users should be blocked from
attempting the install, and pointed towards mokutil.

[Bug 1793428] Re: Video after upgrading is only 1024x768

2018-11-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looking at this again, it appears the low resolution is caused by the
kernel option 'nomodeset':

[0.00] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-34-generic
root=UUID=cff0943b-896f-4480-a885-69bef7b3e8cd ro quiet splash nomodeset
vt.handoff=1

You need to remove 'nomodeset' from your kernel command line. You will
likely then need the fix or workaround for bug 1727356 too.

2018-11-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

WTF??? Does this mean you want to get rid of the problem without solving
it?

There is definitely a dependency problem either in libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 or in
libllvm7:i386.

[Bug 1804076] Re: Xorg freeze

2018-11-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1803993] [NEW] GDM is Exploitable as a Password Collector

2018-11-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

This was found when an administrative error made /home directory
inaccessible. Any users that tried to login after that, were not able
to (which is expected) but their password appears on the VT1 screen.
Under normal circumstances, VT1 is not visible. But once the system was
sent into this compromised mode, one can press ctrl+alt+F1 and then
ctrl+alt+F2 and get a momentary glance at VT1. One can keep toggling
between these key combinations in order to make out the password(s) on
VT1.

As a further test, I wanted to see if a non-super user could cause this
condition, and it is in fact possible. As a regular user, I made their
own home directory not writable and then removed ~/.config and logged
out. Then logged in as that user again, and although that user can't
login the system does go into that mode where passwords appear on VT1
and are viewable with the key combinations mentioned herein. Further,
any other users that login will see no problem, but when they logon
their passwords also appear on VT1 and are viewable.

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-11-19 Thread Guy Rouillier
Ugh, tab key did a submit! Launchpad needs some work.

So, in summary:

   - with "acpi=off noapic", all kernels can reboot but hang during shutdown

   - without "acpi=off noapic", <= 4.5.7 can reboot and shutdown, but later
kernels hang during both reboot and shutdown.

Since I can't run the ancient kernels forever, I'm adding "acpi=off
noapic" and will just live with the hang during shutdown. Fortunately,
the filesystem appears to close before hang, so I don't have filesystem
corruptions when I start up the next time.

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-11-19 Thread Guy Rouillier
I tried with 4.5.7, nothing changes with WiFi on or off

However, back to the original problem, while playing with WiFi, I
discovered that 4.5.7 was now freezing during shutdown (reboot okay).
So, I then tried removing "acpi=off noapic" again, and 4.5.7 was now
able to reboot and shutdown. But as before, any later kernel now hangs
during both reboot and shutdown.

So, in summary:

   - with "acpi=off noapic", all kernels can reboot but hang during
shutdown

[Bug 1803840] Re: color calibration with huey pro greenish

2018-11-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks! Your feedback sounds like the missing piece to this puzzle.
Until now the greenish problem had only been reported by people who
didn't have a colorimeter so we just blamed the default profiles.
However your comments now make me think it might have been a
miscalculation in colord (or such) that is exaggerating the green
channel most visibly.

The previous existing bug 1785764 mentions the greenish issue but isn't
really about it. Let's make this bug 1803840 about the green problem.

** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => colord (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: colord (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Changed in: colord (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1804008] Re: Gnome Shell extensions crash

2018-11-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually, it's pretty obvious ubuntu-dock is crashing for you from the
above log.

However please still try removing all your other gnome-shell extensions
to see if that stops the problem from happening.
