[Bug 1817832] Re: qemu crashes with `kvm_init_vcpu failed: Invalid argument` during guest boot cores >256
TBH this isn't about "a warning/error message to be missing" - it is a request to add the feature to be able to "Allow creating max number of VCPUs on POWER9" and should be declared like that. @JFH/@Manjo - I leave it to you to discuss that and make the change. Furthermore the patches referred are kernel only, so qemu task is invalid and I'm adding a kernel task instead. And finally all patches are in 4.19 upstream, so Disco is already fix-released except for SRU considerations. Since Power9 is >=Bionic that is the max SRU target (if any). I'll add the bug tasks but leave it to JFH/Manjo/Kernel Team to set them to anything but "NEW". ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: qemu (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: qemu (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** No longer affects: qemu (Ubuntu Bionic) ** No longer affects: qemu (Ubuntu Cosmic) ** Changed in: qemu (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: qemu (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu on IBM Power Systems Bug Triage (ubuntu-power-triage) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu on IBM Power Systems Bug Triage (ubuntu-power-triage) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817832 Title: qemu crashes with `kvm_init_vcpu failed: Invalid argument` during guest boot cores >256 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1817832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1813873] Re: Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport
Thanks for the link Guilherme, guess that answers that question. Given March 4 is just round the corner, I am not sure there is much can be done at this point, but I will however just echo what Tom beat me to saying: As a software developer I fully understand and recognise the need to delay things for various reasons even if it may seem everything is primed and ready to go. That being said I think the overall response time here has not been great at all. A kernel regression which breaks user space programs (including the default TTY login), and has a small, tested patch available should absolutely not take 3-4 weeks to be released. I understand that this new March 4 release will have additional unrelated patches that need that testing time, but I think breaking from the standard SRU cycle to either revert the problematic patches, or apply the fix would absolutely have been worth it - just look at the 13 duplicates of this bug and the posts on various other web forums / support sites. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813873 Title: Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1813873/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1813873] Re: Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport
Considering that this is a regression, with major impact (TTY login no longer possible, often no graphical login either), many affected users on (amongst other) the latest LTS release, and both this fact and how to fix it has been known since at least January 30, I am puzzled as to why this is being handled as an update with the default stable release cadence. Could you kindly explain the following (since I may just be misunderstanding how things are handled): Was rolling back the breaking (since incomplete) patchset (which introduced this issue) not an option? Has testing on 18.04 and 16.04 brought up new problems, which would have had even more serious impact? How is "importance" calculated (personally I would have set it to "critical" or "major", if those are available)? If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817682 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 interface freeze - during video call or screen sharing (using Slack or Zoom) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1817682/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Debian has released the fix for both stable and oldstable. As I said above, I personally don't use Ubuntu, don't maintain the Ubuntu package, and don't have upload rights to Ubuntu, so I'm afraid I can't help with fixing the bug in Ubuntu. [Bug 1816634] Re: GNOME Shell consistently ignores mouse clicks in a particular app window
** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/475 + + --- + This is similar in some ways to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1181666 but affects only the mouse, not the keyboard, and is consistent almost all (99%+) of the time. This is happening for Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (bionic) in the default desktop environment (Ubuntu). It also happens for the GNOME and GNOME Classic desktop environments. The version of gnome- shell is 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.4. Our program is a blend of C# winforms (Mono) with embedded web browser windows using Geckofx45 (mozilla version 45). Editing windows in the program use HTML to display formatting and typescript/javascript code to assist with popup dialogs and other editing help. Inside these editing windows, left mouse clicks are essentially ignored. Keyboarding still works fine as far as I can tell. Clicking on the gear button inside the editing window fails to bring up the Styles dialog more than 95% of the time. When the dialog does display, it is always (100%) nonfunctional as the first click in it causes it to close immediately. Tracing the internal behavior of the code, it appears that clicking the first time inside the editing (browser) window causes a series of WM_FOCUS messages to be sent and the javascript to hook up a left mouse click handler to a gear button displayed in the lower left corner of the editing window. This is the expected behavior, and the same as on other window managers. But then, on GNOME Shell only, a series of WM_KILLFOCUS messages are sent immediately. This does not happen for other window managers. (The main window receives a WM_ACTIVATE message with the argument to make it deactivate.) Any other left mouse clicks inside that window are ignored >95% of the time, probably only when double clicking quickly enough to occur before those messages to lose focus/deactivate are handled. (Right mouse clicks are handled at a higher level and appear to function normally.) The program in question is called Bloom. The source code is available at https://github.com/BloomBooks/BloomDesktop and prebuilt debian/ubuntu packages are available at http://packages.sil.org/ubuntu/ as bloom- desktop or bloom-desktop-beta. After spending a few days looking at this problem, I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that it must be a GNOME Shell bug that I can't work around in our code. It's working fine in Microsoft Windows and all the other Linux window managers that I've tested (Unity, Cinnamon, KDE Plasma, MATE, XFCE, and LXDE). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816634 Title: GNOME Shell consistently ignores mouse clicks in a particular app window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1816634/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows
