Disable BuildFailureWeigher

Disable the BuildFailureWeigher used when weighting hosts during
instance scheduling. A single build failure will result in a
-100 weighting which effectively excludes the hypervisor
from the scheduling decision.

A bad image can result in build failures resulting in a heavy
load on hypervisors which have not had a build failure with
those that have effectively being ignored; the build failure
count will be reset on a successful build but due to the high
weighting this won't happen until all resources on known good
hypervisors have been completely consumed.

[Bug 1818204] Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 wireless does not work

2019-03-04 Thread Sami Pietila
Looks good. With this kernel, wlan works just fine. I can connect
normally to the wlan networks.

rfkill now shows:
ID TYPE DEVICE SOFT HARD
 0 wlan ideapad_wlan unblocked unblocked
 1 bluetooth ideapad_bluetooth unblocked unblocked
 2 bluetooth hci0 unblocked unblocked
 3 wlan phy0 unblocked unblocked

Can I somehow switch to this new kernel in 18.04 in such a way that it
keeps getting security updates?

Thanks @Christian for continuing the discussion.

@James Page, I also use neutron ml2 ovs driver. I understand that in
default nova policy, only administrator can spawn instance without any
interface, but if someone else can "tune" the policy, he/she will have a
problem.

[Bug 1818609] [NEW] PXE installing ubuntu show initramfs error

2019-03-04 Thread cass,lai
Public bug reported:

I set up a PXE server based on Redhat7.5,and has successfully installed
Redhat,CentOS,Suse, but when i tried add the Ubuntu into my PXE server,
errors came out:

 1. whne CLient get the IP from server DHCP, it would remind
   "fcsk not prezent",
"Target filesystem doesn`t have requestd /sbin/init",
"run-init:current directory on the same filesystem as the root: error 0",
and finally boot into (initramfs) mode, if I input exit under the initramfs,
it will ran end with a line:"
[end trace cd5bd9]"

 2. I have tried re-download the ISO files, the error keeps
 3. I have tried Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop, Ubuntu 16.07 Server, Ubuntu 17.04
Desktop, Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop
,Ubuntu 18.04 Server ,Ubuntu 18.10 Desktop ,Ubuntu 18.10 Server. Only
Ubuntu 16.04 Server can boot up
through PXE.
 4. I compared the Ubuntu 16.04 server ISO with others, found that the files are
different ,Ubuntu 16.04 Server does have the directory of "Install" and does
not have the directory of "casper" which should contains the critical files
:vmlinuz and initrd.
5 I also used a new SSD to install ,but still failed.

[Bug 1775717] Re: CPU/GPU Fans suddenly go 100% RPM on Asus ROG G752VT

2019-03-04 Thread Ivan Vankov
I had that problem with my Asus UX510UX and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 18.04
- shorly after starting/resuming the laptop, the fans would start
running on full speed and never stop. Interestingly, thereat were
periods, during which the problem disappeared. I tried everthing I could
think of (NVIDIA/Noeiveau drivers, upgradng kernel, installing various
tools) without any success. Then I figured out that removing the battery
of the laptop for several minutes solves the problem (it is built-in, so
you need to open the case). Must be a hardware/firmware issue.

[Bug 1793715] Re: VMWare Guest OS Customization will fail for Ubuntu 18.04 Server LiveCD

2019-03-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the info Pengpeng.
The problem with that is that it will make cloud-init rather late.

Currently (this is the latest state after many fixup for just those
reasons of being too early/too late):

Note: Disambiguation of service names used below:

vgauth - open-vm-tools.vgauth.service
vmtoolsd - open-vm-tools.service
fs - systemd-remount-fs.service
tmp - systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service
cloud-init-l - cloud-init-local.service
cloud-init - cloud-init.service

 fs ->  vmtoolsd -> cloud-init-l
   ^
 tmp --|
 vgauth --|
 apparmor--|

The problem is that all those services are meant to be super early and
therefore have DefaultDependencies=No.

Dbus on the other hand is not that super early and adding
  After=dbus.service
Would move it way back in the initialization order which also you don't wan't
AFAIK (bug 1667831 to have open-vm-tools before cloud-init-local was by Sankar
from VMWare).

To be sure about it let me ask two questions:
- are your scripts triggered by cloud init
- if so in which config module/phase as I'm sure I have done cloud-init driven
hostname changed?
- OR are your scripts triggered by open-vm-tools directly?

@cloud-init Team:
- if we'd end up to make open-vm-tools after dbus.service that would move
cloud-init-local.service much later, could you outline the problems with that
OR if you are ok with it state so?

Furthermore lets talk in the call today to make sure we are on the same
page for this.

[Bug 1818600] Re: linux 4.18.0-16.17 ADT test failure with linux 4.18.0-16.17

2019-03-04 Thread Khaled El Mously
Failures in ubuntu_kernel_selftests.net and
ubuntu_kernel_selftests.timers.

Note that these 2 failures are a subset of the failures happening
elsewhere (e.g. LP #1818021 for bionic-aws) I assume they're related.

[Bug 1818593] Re: PS data generated on Ubuntu 16.04 is larger than on Ubuntu 14.04

2019-03-04 Thread JerryFu
** Description changed:

  OS: Ubuntu 16.04LTS
  Ghostscript Version: 9.18
  Generated file size: 1280KB

  OS: Ubuntu 14.04LTS
  Ghostscript Version: 9.10
  Generated file size: 556KB

We found a problem about Ghostscript:
- When converting from PDF file to PS data using the Ghostscript command, the
PS data generated by Ghostscript 9.18 on Ubuntu 16.04LTS is twice as large as
the PS data generated by Ghostscript 9.10 on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Due to the
increase in size, the printing speed will be severe slow down on Ubuntu
16.04LTS.
+ When converting from PDF file to PS data using the Ghostscript command, the
PS data generated by Ghostscript 9.18 on Ubuntu 16.04LTS is twice as large as
the PS data generated by Ghostscript 9.10 on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Due to the
increase in size, the printing speed of PCL6 driver will be severe slow down on
Ubuntu 16.04LTS.

The following is the Ghostscript command which we use for converting from PDF
file to PS data:
gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=ps2write
-sOUTPUTFILE={out_ps_file_path} -dLanguageLevel=3 -r600 -dCompressFonts=false
-dNoT3CCITT -dNOINTERPOLATE -f sample.pdf

We'd like you to answer the following questions.

  1. Is it Ghostscript's specification or bug?
  2. If it is a bug, do you have any plan to fix it?
  3. Is there any workaround?

P.S. If it was a graphics driver bug then you should avoid PPAs such as

[Bug 1818593] [NEW] PS data generated on Ubuntu 16.04 is larger than on Ubuntu 14.04

2019-03-04 Thread JerryFu
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 16.04LTS
Ghostscript Version: 9.18
Generated file size: 1280KB

OS: Ubuntu 14.04LTS
Ghostscript Version: 9.10
Generated file size: 556KB

We found a problem about Ghostscript:
When converting from PDF file to PS data using the Ghostscript command, the PS
data generated by Ghostscript 9.18 on Ubuntu 16.04LTS is twice as large as the
PS data generated by Ghostscript 9.10 on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Due to the increase
in size, the printing speed will be severe slow down on Ubuntu 16.04LTS.

The following is the Ghostscript command which we use for converting from PDF
file to PS data:
gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=ps2write
-sOUTPUTFILE={out_ps_file_path} -dLanguageLevel=3 -r600 -dCompressFonts=false
-dNoT3CCITT -dNOINTERPOLATE -f sample.pdf

We'd like you to answer the following questions.

1. Is it Ghostscript's specification or bug?
2. If it is a bug, do you have any plan to fix it?
3. Is there any workaround?

[Bug 1818360] Re: system heating and fan running after boot.

2019-03-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I suspect Xorg using high CPU is due to the rendering load of some
graphical app(s) like gnome-system-monitor.

Please close gnome-system-monitor and all other graphical apps and then
try running just 'top'. Please then send us fresh 'top' command output.

[Bug 1818281] Re: .

2019-03-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1782209] Re: KVM SnowRidge Split-lock disable

2019-03-04 Thread quanxian
patches to lkml along with kernel's patches.

Here is the link:

https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/3/1/749

It's along with kernel enabling patches.

** Description changed:

When bit 29 is set in Test Control MSR register 0x33, a #AC execption
is generated for split locked accesses at all CPL irrespective of
   CR0.AM or EFLAGS.AC.

This feature can help developers to capture memory accesses that across
cachelines with #LOCK assertion. Then developers can reconstruct their
  program accordingly

[Bug 1782207] Re: KVM SnowRidge Processor Trace v4

2019-03-04 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

The PEBS(Processor Event Based Sampling) facility allows software to profile
workload behavior by periodically capturing machine state, memory access
information and other groups of architectural information. In native systems,
PEBS uses a debug store mechanism to store a set of architectural state
information for the processor and we need to specify a linear pages for the
output buffer which must be pinned to physical pages. In virtualized systems,
pinning the platform physical pages for the output buffer is difficult.
PT V4 provide a method to format PEBS sampling data to new type of trace
packet and output to Intel Processor Trace buffer. This depend on
PT-VMX(Enabling use of EPT to redirect PT output)which enabled in ICX platform.
Need modify in KVM and Qemu.

Intel Processor Trace v4 task list:
◾PT VMX which is done and in upstream phase, and need more review and update
effort
◾PEBS via PT on SNR. It's new added task, which target to ww48
◾PT PEBS/EMON integration. This feature allows PEBS data to be written into
PT output channel, leveraging PT Virtualization work for PEBS.
  ◾cpuid support and context switch
◾Support host-guest mode and system mode
More Open feature includes Live Migration support and LBR support

[Bug 1782208] Re: KVM SnowRidge Adaptive PEBS

2019-03-04 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

With the addition of more CPU state information of data, the PEBS(Processor
Event Based Sampling) record size is greatly increased. However, most general
users of PEBS require just the eventingIP and do not require such a large PEBS
record.
Adaptive PEBS provides Software the capability to configure the PEBS records
to capture only the data of interest, keeping the record size compact.
   Need modify KVM and Qemu.

Adaptive PEBS (Processor Event Based Sampling) is configurable PEBS records
for only interested data collection from massive PEBS data. It depends on PEBS
via PT. The enabling work includes:
◾Expose this feature and MSR configure bit in guest PEBS driver
◾Save and restore status in vCPU when vm_exit and vm_entry
◾Support both host-guest mode and system mode.

2019-03-04 Thread Bryce
Thanks for clearing up that misconception, Daniel (at least for me; I
thought there was at least a sizable team employed by Canonical). I'll be
happy to run these versions and do some testing. I'll looking forward to
19.04/19.10, so I'll see how they are in their current state and report any
bugs I find.

  [Test case]
Check that there are no further cases on the error tracker with the proposed
version.

  [Regression potential]
Given that this just changes the return type of a function only used in
calls, and the code compiles, there should be no possibility for a regression.
Of course, if there were, it'd be segfaults or stuff.

  [Original info]
The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
packagekit. This problem was most recently seen with package version
1.1.12-1ubuntu1, the problem page at

[Bug 1773959] Re: High CPU usage by gnome-shell when only running gnome-terminal

2019-03-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Pedro,

That's enough for me, thanks.

This bug is now closed. If anyone experiences any more issues at all
then please open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

And if anyone did want to test 19.04 then you can find it here:

  http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

But if you do find any problems with 19.04 then please open new bugs for
those.

** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Fix Released

[Bug 1767648] Re: Top bar and shell dialogs are not displayed properly when zoom is enabled

2019-03-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Short of predicting the future, I think the best answer is that more
keen Ubuntu users should test the next version of Ubuntu before its
release. That way we can discuss/prioritize/fix accessibility issues
before they get released to the wider world.

You can always get a test build of the next Ubuntu version here:
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

There's a common misconception that Canonical has some big development
team that will do all the development and testing but that's not true.
We rely heavily on community users to help make Ubuntu possible.
