[Bug 1827102] Re: dpdk 18.11-6 ADT test failure with linux 5.1.0-1.1

2019-07-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * dpdk ships some dkms modules and those break on kernel updates every
+now and then. This is a fixup for one of such changes.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * dkms build the dpdk modules against a recent kernel (maybe mainline
+kernels)
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * This particular fix should have no real regression potential.
+It checks on a (now) missing define and helps itself by redefining if
+needed. This is based on a kernel version check. The one regression
+could maybe be if later the symbol is added to later kernel versions.
+But that will need a fix just like this one.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * This is in prep for later on when a HWE kernel based on >=5.1 will land
+in e.g. Bionic
+ * To find this patch in all of the stable update it is one of the few [1]
+that isn't yet in the stable update itself but added as a patch. (I
+hope this helps SRU review)

2019-07-30 Thread Chris Guiver
Sorry I hadn't noticed your comment here Walter.
No, I was afraid it'd cause the reason the 18.04.2 couldn't be used be void,
and as updating wasn't specifically mentioned I didn't fully update! (yeah I
know this mentally created confusion as to how this test was supposed to prove
anything without updates, but I let that slide...).
Updating now as stated in irc.

[Bug 1820957] Re: package rdma-core needed for mlx functionality

2019-07-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * the librte-mlx PMD drivers will need rdma-core to properly work in some
+setups.
+
+ * Solution: add the missing dependency.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install DPDK 18.11.x in particular librte-pmd-mlx5-18.11 and
+librte-pmd-mlx4-18.11
+ * Those should now depend on rdma-core which will make the MLX
+initialization work on the systems where it was failing so far.
+
+ * Further some MLX cards hard-fail initialization without the fix, but we
+have no such card available [1]. But we can try if our cards still
+initialize correctly.
+
+ [1]: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=925141#50
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The one thing we have identified is the obvious extra clutter that will
+be installed. But for users of librte-pmd-mlx[45]-18.11 this really
+will improve reliability and others (that e.g. do not want to use mlx
+PMDs can remove the packages. You can perfectly fine have e.g. PMDs for
+intel cards installed but mlx PMDs removed.
+The default "dpdk" only depends on some core libs and RECOMMENDS the
+common PMDs. Uncommon PMDs are opt-in installs anyway and one can even
+remove common PMDs to e.g. reduce the active code.
+That way people concerned of the extra clutter can avoid it, while real
+users of MLX PMDs will benefit from better device support.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * n/a
+
+
+ ---
+
The MLX drivers correctly depend on the symbols they need e.g.:
-   ibverbs-providers (>= 15), libc6 (>= 2.14), libibverbs1 (>= 1.1.6)
+   ibverbs-providers (>= 15), libc6 (>= 2.14), libibverbs1 (>= 1.1.6)

But with that they load correctly, but do not find the cards.

Most likely because the kernel modules and/or services are not up.
It was reported that rdma-core will fix this.

We don't want to pull in rdma-core on all older updates, but on newer
versions we might add a dependency to it.

I'm not entirely sure - on one hand DPDK already pulls in a lot anyway.
But OTOH maybe we make it a suggests?
Yet the rdma-modules will not do a lot when no HW is present and also the
services should be somewhat lightweight if there is no HW present.
Finally running DPDK is never lightweight to begin with - so maybe a depends
from the MLX PMDs would be the most appropriate?

@Alaaa (if you are reading this) - do you happen to know which bit of
rdma-cores functionality exactly it is that makes it work?

2019-07-30 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello,
from this thread[1] it seem that the touchpad might work if you switch it from
advanced mode to basic mode in your BIOS, can you give it a try?

Because libraw19 is already in a stable release of Ubuntu, the binary
package should be renamed to libraw19debian1 so that the replacement is
atomic not only when publishing to the eoan release, but also when users are
upgrading.

'apt search --names-only debian1' shows you the prior art here.

1, Could you upload "journalctl -b 0" with 5.0.0-21 kernel?

2, Install mainline kernel [1] and upload "journalctl -b 0" too.

[Bug 1609700] Re: username is not saved in openconnect connection dialog

2019-07-30 Thread GeekSmith
This bug resurfaced in Ubuntu 19.04 and persists in 19.10. I installed a
fresh copy of both, installed network-manager-openconnect and network-
manager-openconnect-gnome, and connected to the company VPN. The
password is saved but the username is not saved and it must be manually
entered.

I didn't see this issue in 18.10.

[Bug 1838485] Re: package policykit-1 0.105-14.1ubuntu0.5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2019-07-30 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I note you are using an EOL Ubuntu 17.04 kernel, rather than the
standard Ubuntu 16.04 (4.4) or Ubuntu 16.04 HWE (4.15) kernel, and loads
of tainted messages in your `dmesg`

[28275.945575] WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 514 at
/build/linux-hwe-vH8Hlo/linux-hwe-4.10.0/net/wireless/sme.c:891

4.10.0-28-generic #32~16.04.2-Ubuntu

These I suspect are the reason for your problem, ie.

Failed to execute operation: Connection timed out
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/policykit-1_0.105-14.1ubuntu0.5_amd64.deb (--unpack):
subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

thus I would suggest using a supported Ubuntu 16.04 LTS kernel, either
the standard 4.4 or HWE (hardware-enablement-stack) 4.15 and trying
again. I've marked this bug incomplete, if you believe I'm wrong or
missing something, please return it to new and leave a comment
explaining why.

Thanks again for reporting this issue, and helping making Ubuntu a
better system.

[Bug 1813877] Re: Can't adjust brightness on DELL UHD dGPU AIO

2019-07-30 Thread AceLan Kao
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The dell-uart-backlight driver has been loaded, but the backlight is
controller by graphics driver instead of scalar IC. The old way to determinate
weather the driver should be loaded is not working anymore, since the behavior
of scalar command, show firmware version, is not the same as old platforms.

  [Fix]
Using more a reliable command, get_scalar_status, to check if scalar is in
charge of the AIO backlight.

  [Test]
Verified on new Dell AIO platforms.

  [Regression Potential]
- Expected. The get_scalar_status command is not supported by the first
generation AIO platforms, so the driver may not be loaded on old AIO machines
due to get_scalar_status command returns 0. To ease the pain, the "force"
parameter has been introduced to make the driver can be loaded regardless of
the return value of get_scalar_status command.
+ Low. The quirk lists all old platforms which use the old way to check if
scalar IC is in use. So, it won't change the behavior on old platforms, and
apply the new method on new platforms.

of?

I can not see
'https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/b0745b3823bfaed66f7c5601ac0b576e8f1508fd'.
But there is no this problem in my environment.

The current version is the same as Upstreram.

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2019-07-30 Thread B. C. Schmerker via ubuntu-bugs
I encountered this issue installing xubuntu™ 18.04-LTS on an
emachines®/acer® EL1210-09 (2.3 GHz Advanced Micro Devices® Athlon®
LE-1620; nVIDIA® nFORCE® 720 chipset; 2 x 2 GiB DDR2 main memory) with a
Shuttle® PSU upgrade (PC631 in for stock 220W LITEON®) and the
planar C77 geForce® 64-bit GPU by-passed for the nVIDIA® GF-109 on an
msi® N610GT-MD1GD3/LP half-height video display adapter. I normally use:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="debug"

in /etc/default/grub, which is how I confirmed the issue: Depending on
shutdown or reboot option, the system halts at "Starting reboot..." or
"Starting power-off...", forcing a manual power-down. Additionally:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="debug acpi=force"

had no effect, and:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="debug acpi=off"

only got me to a timestamped "reboot:System halted". Will report back
after checking effect of nVIDIA® geForce® driver package for C77 GPU
(part of nF720 chipset).

[Bug 1837723] Re: Dock settings for multiple monitors is backwards

2019-07-30 Thread Chad Bubb
I don't know if this should be a separate issue, but also affected since
I have started experiencing issues is even though I have my 19" monitor
listed as the Primary display in Settings, it is listed as #2 display. I
do not always keep display #1 physically turned on. When I launch
Settings it opens on display #1, which I then have to turn on to access.
I also will have other windows open on display #1 instead of #2. E.g.,
when I go to Save a document in LibreOffice Writer or Open a file in VLC
or open a New window for Firefox or Chrome those boxes will launch on
display #1. Luckily with Chrome and Firefox the Super+Shift+Left Arrow
keyboard shortcut will get that window on display #2, but that does not
work with other windows.

[Bug 1836258] Re: Update hyperlink when enabling UCA

2019-07-30 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Peter, or anyone else affected,

Accepted software-properties into xenial-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/software-properties/0.96.20.9 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1836361] Re: Windows guest display is inverted vertically

2019-07-30 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Dariusz, or anyone else affected,

Accepted spice-html5 into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spice-
html5/0.1.4-1ubuntu1.16.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1838276] Re: zfs-module depedency selects random kernel package to install

2019-07-30 Thread Richard Laager
I closed this as requested, but I'm actually going to reopen it to see
what people think about the following...

Is there a "default" kernel in Ubuntu? I think there is, probably linux-
generic.

So perhaps this dependency should be changed:
OLD: zfs-modules | zfs-dkms
NEW: linux-generic | zfs-modules | zfs-dkms

That way, if you have something satisfying the zfs-modules dependency,
it is fine. If you don't, it will install the default kernel.

On the other hand, if you don't already have the default kernel, you're
clearly in some sort of special case, so I'm not sure what sane thing
can be done. So that might argue against this.

[Bug 1812594] Re: Lubuntu 18.04 mistakenly sets the default lock problem to lxlock instead of light-locker

2019-07-30 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Chris, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lubuntu-default-settings into bionic-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/lubuntu-default-settings/0.54.3 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
