[Bug 1094773] Re: oidentd spawns a new process for all new connections unless -l [number] defined

2019-09-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package oidentd - 2.4.0-1

---
oidentd (2.4.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release with rewritten documentation (Closes: #712393).
Drop lintian override.
  * Drop build dependency on libcap-ng-dev, which is no longer needed.
  * Change connection limit in default /etc/default/oidentd to 10 (Closes:
#697030, LP: #1094773).
  * Add systemd service and socket units (like upstream's, but with
support for the same options as the init script). Depend on iproute2
to let scripts be short.
  * Build with --enable-debug.
  * Update debian/copyright, using machine-readable format.

[Bug 1844031] Re: package whoopsie 0.2.52.5ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2019-09-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us (esp. request at end), this
looks more like you need support rather than having a bug. Have you
attempted to install --reinstall the package as it suggested?

This bug report can be converted to a question (which is aimed at
support). You can also find help with your problem in the support forum
of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

I've marked this bug incomplete as normal support steps don't appear to
have been tried, or evidence of them hasn't been provided. If you
believe I'm in error, or can provide additional detail of steps done,
please change status back to "New" and leave comment, or additional
information as to what was attempted.

Thanks again for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1843650] Re: youtube streams quit playing

2019-09-14 Thread Hiflux Seven via ubuntu-bugs
Youtube reverted changes to their url structure system after 24hr
"experiment" so it was just "broken" for a day and magically "fixed"
itself.

Folks over at youtube-dl hustled out patches fairly quickly.. which they
then had to revert again 12hrs later or something when youtube switched
back. Sigh.

Thanks for looking into this.

[Bug 1306500] Re: some keys stopped working: left & right arrows, backspace

2019-09-14 Thread launch...@harris.net.nz
I had two machines running nearly identical Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia. I
saw the problem on one only, and it was associated with very high cpu
use (almost 100% on one execution unit/core) by gnucash 2.6.19.

Both had ibus installed and the one without a problem had ibus-gtk while
neither had ibus-gtk3.
On the one with the problem, ibus did not appear to be running at all.

After various combinations of installing ibus-gtk, rebooting & so on I
found that ibus was now running, and I still had the problem. Then 'ibus
exit' in a terminal made the problem and the cpu usage go away
instantly, without even restarting gnucash.

Is there a reason to not simply 'apt remove ibus', given I use English
on a US keyboard layout?

[Bug 1757375] Re: Desktop unable to Suspend when Inactive

2019-09-14 Thread Douglas Silva
I can also reproduce this on both of my computers running Xubuntu 19.04,
a desktop and a laptop.

Just to be extra clear on what the issue is:

If the computer is left idle for 10 minutes, the screen locks. When 15
minutes have passed, it should suspend, but it never does. I unlock the
screen to investigate why, and find that there is a prompt window asking
my password in order to allow the system to suspend.

What usually happens as a consequence:

I fall asleep with the laptop still running, and on the next day the
thing is powered off with only 1% of battery power. It stayed ON all
night.

[Bug 1844012] Re: grub2 doesn't recognize ext4 with metadata_csum_seed enabled

2019-09-14 Thread Jim Bray
** Description changed:

  /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/ext2.mod, from:

  grub-efi-amd64-bin:
Installed: 2.02-2ubuntu8.13
Candidate: 2.02-2ubuntu8.13

doesn't recognize an ext4 filesystem with metadata_csum_seed set.

This is true in command-line grub, not just the update-grub software.
  Attempting

- linux (hdx,gptx)/ etc on an ext4 fs with metadata_csum enabled fails;
- removing the metadata_csum_seed option fixes this.
+ linux (hdx,gptx)/ etc

- The failure is "unknown filesystem" for any ext4 fs with metadata_csum_seed
set. Apparently saving the metadata checksum seed in the superblock changes it
beyond recognition for grub. The message appears to be coming from
+ on an ext4 fs with metadata_csum enabled fails; removing the
+ metadata_csum_seed option fixes this.
+
+ The failure is "unknown filesystem" for any ext4 fs with
+ metadata_csum_seed set. Apparently saving the metadata checksum seed in
+ the superblock changes it beyond recognition for grub.
+
+ The message appears to be coming from
  grub-2.04/grub-core/kern /fs.c:

  grub_fs_t
  grub_fs_probe (grub_device_t device)
  {
   grub_error (GRUB_ERR_UNKNOWN_FS, N_("unknown filesystem"));
  }
which appears to probe for filesystems by calling the fs modules to attempt
to mount it.

I tried to install latest grub from eaon to see if upstream has fixed this,
but it depended on too much other unreleased software such as libc6.

I pulled the 2.04 source. There is nothing in the Changelog that appears
  to address this.

  from `man ext4`:
   metadata_csum_seed
This feature allows the filesystem to store the metadata
checksum seed in the superblock, which allows the administrator to change the
UUID of a filesystem using the metadata_csum feature while it is mounted.

[Bug 1844024] [NEW] No exit and fails to quit when closed. .

2019-09-14 Thread GNAServicesInc
Public bug reported:

No exit and fails to quit when closed. .

Step to reproduce.

Step 1. Launch Rhythmbox

Issue. No exit or quit option under the file menu. Simply one deceptive close
option.

Step to reproduce.

Step 1. Close Rhythmbox

Issue. Rhythmbox is still running.

This is entirely unacceptable malware like behavior and makes the program
unsuitable for use or distribution.

This issue seems to be limited to bad patches in the Ubuntu version.

We also need:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 19.04
Release:19.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
  Installed: 3.4.3-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.4.3-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.4.3-1ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu disco/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) What you expected to happen
To be able to close the program after opening it.
4) What happened instead
The program must be killed every time I want to close it.

[Bug 1844022] [NEW] pthread_setattr_default_np race condition with pthread_create.

2019-09-14 Thread Maxim Egorushkin
Public bug reported:

pthread_setattr_default_np race condition with pthread_create.

When creating a new thread with pthread_create and a NULL
pthread_attr_t* argument, the pthread_attr_t* argument must come from
the last call to pthread_setattr_default_np preceding the call to
pthread_create.

It seems that there is a race condition in glibc implementation such
that pthread_attr_t* argument comes from a pthread_setattr_default_np
call that succeeds a pthread_create call.

Example:

The above output is incorrect. The expected output is:

thread stack size is 8720384
thread stack size is 8720384
thread stack size is 1048576

If `t0.join();` line is moved to right after `std::thread
t0(another_thread);` line then the code produces the correct output.

It appears that setting the default pthread_attr_t is not atomic/ordered
with respect to pthread_create calls.

[Bug 1844017] Re: xdiskusage not showing disk space properly in some cases

2019-09-14 Thread Andy Fingerhut
OK, debugging this more myself, I have determined that "xdiskusage
" executes the du program with the -x option, which is
documented to "skip directories on different file systems". The /media
and /snap directories on my system contain subdirectories that are
apparently mounted as different file systems, so that seems to explain
the existing behavior.

Sorry for the noise.

[Bug 1844017] Re: xdiskusage not showing disk space properly in some cases

2019-09-14 Thread Andy Fingerhut
It is definitely not most directories that cause this behavior -- only a
few. Another example I have found is /mnt

[Bug 1844017] Re: xdiskusage not showing disk space properly in some cases

2019-09-14 Thread Andy Fingerhut
Ugh, sorry. Scratch my previous comment about the /mnt directory
exhibiting this behavior -- I have not observed that. I have observed
this difference in behavior between du and xdiskusage with the /media
directory, though. And those are the only two top-level directories on
my Ubuntu 18.04.3 system that I have observed this behavior with, after
trying them all.

[Bug 1844017] [NEW] xdiskusage not showing disk space properly in some cases

2019-09-14 Thread Andy Fingerhut
Public bug reported:

Using this command shows lots of disk space used in the /snap directory,
and subdirectories:

$ du /snap | xdiskusage

Using this command shows nearly 0 disk space (only 4 KiB):

$ xdiskusage /snap

This is not unique to the /snap directory -- it occurs for most
directories, maybe all?

[Bug 1844001] [NEW] error to install

2019-09-14 Thread Adrián Jiménez Flores
Public bug reported:

When trying to install the operating system, I get an error message, it
says that it may be because there is an error in the installation disk,
or an error in the laptop's hard disk. The latter is more likely since I
had problems with linux mint and I needed to change the operating
system.

[Bug 1743247] Re: B2 Python APIs are missing

2019-09-14 Thread Kenneth Loafman
I marked this as Won't Fix. Duplicity runs on many distros and needs
close to 30 packages if you were to supply them all at install time. The
basic install is around 15. I have found that some distro's, Ubuntu
included, lock the version of the package and will not update it except
to fix a critical error. I recommend pip because it supplies the most
current version as well as allowing easy regression to a previous
version of a Python package. If you wish to use apt to get the B2
package, I see no harm, but I have not tested against whatever version
they supply.

[Bug 1843999] [NEW] Printing fails since last update

2019-09-14 Thread Adrian Midgley
Public bug reported:

I use Gimp-gutenprint to print photographs via CUPS to an Epson R2400
It fails each time, reporting filter failure.
I forget what the last update was, yesterday or day before, but it is only
since then.

ESC/P utility can print a nozzle check from the printer, that's working.

CUPS seems to be telling me that a filter failed, due to a mismatch
between device colour model and profile.

I've tried with no profile in the setup:printer dialogue, no different.

Where should I look?
Is it likely to be a change in the last update?

I'm on 18.04 LTS on an AMD processor with multiple screens on an Nvidia card.

[Bug 1743247] Re: B2 Python APIs are missing

2019-09-14 Thread Stefano Marengo
Solution that worked for me on macOS, for anyone searching:

$ /location/of/duplicity/libexec/bin/pip3 install b2

(
if installed with brew that would most probably be:
$ /usr/local/Cellar/duplicity/[VERSION]/libexec/bin/pip3 install b2
)

Use the pip coming from the duplicity package, and b2 will be located.
Of course this is a quick-and-dirty, as you'll have to re-patch for every
update.

[Bug 1690085]

2019-09-14 Thread schweinefilet
I was able to update my BIOS to version 18, but my system still locks up.
I tried the following with the new BIOS:
 - use factory defaults
 - disable SMT
 - disable SMT with Typical Current Idle
 - all of the above with SVM disabled/enabled
Right now I set the power supply idle control to "Low ..." and will report back.

On a positive note, I got an error message:

[Bug 1843990] [NEW] In split transactions only category splits are accepted

2019-09-14 Thread mfskanpur
Public bug reported:

While entering split transactions,Homebank allows only categories in split
transactions but not inter-account transfers. For example if some body has
rceived a consolidate payment of redemption of bond or debenture which

being accepted. So please incorporate this feature in your software.
Further in case of split transactions when a report is generated for any
particular split category, in report 'SPLIT' word is displayed rather name of

[Bug 1843988] [NEW] python library installed into site-packages instead of into dist-packages

2019-09-14 Thread Ernst Kloppenburg
Public bug reported:

The lirc package comes with python libraries and it installs the libraries into
   /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/python3.6/site-packages
This results in the libraries not being found by system python.

>From what I read in https://wiki.debian.org/Python
they should instead be installed into
   /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages

[Bug 1843018] Re: 5.0.0-27-generic: /proc//maps: Pathnames are '/' inside a container

2019-09-14 Thread Radoslaw Jurewicz
My team has encountered this as well and it affects both our on-premise Linux
as well as Azure VMs kernels. Last versions which were working for us are:
- In azure case 5.0.0-1016-azure
- In case of on-premise 5.0.0-25-generic
After upgrading to 5.0.0.-1018-azure and 5.0.0-28, respectively, both stopped
working.

[Bug 1843985] [NEW] Inkscape imports PDF such that contents can be displayed but not printed

2019-09-14 Thread 1448412
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Import the attached PDF document by using inkscapes own libraries.
2) "Print"
3) Look at the preview: All the text that was in the document and even parts of
the logo now are gone. Problem also occurs, when exporting PDF via "File ->
Save As".

Expected behaviour:
o) Documents, no matter if imported to or generated by inkscape are printed and
exported as seen on screen.

Erratic behaviour:
o) Parts of the document are missing on print preview and when exporting.

[Bug 1843984] [NEW] iubuntu dash truncate the name of all application searched - no way to see the complete name

2019-09-14 Thread betteropensource
Public bug reported:

I installed avidemux, which installed two packages with the same initial part
of their names: avidemux2.7_jobs_qt5 and avidemux2.7_qt5.
By clicking SUPER, the Dash will appear. If I search for "avidemux" the two
elements appear but because of the name truncated, I can't differentiate them,
either are showed with the name "avidemux 2.7 (".
Right-clicking on one of these there is the "details" option but it bring me to
the "ubuntu software" application that does not recognize the application
saying "application not found".
I think that the choose to truncate the application name in the Dash is simply
a design bug.
This is very annoying: there is enough space to see the compllete name, instead
of truncate it to the preview image size...
