[Bug 1881241] [NEW] My HP laserjet 1018 stopped printing from Ubuntu 18.04
Public bug reported: I originally installed 16.04 on my newly acquired Dell Studio 2 months ago. I then installed my HP Laserjet 1018 and it ran well. I upgraded to 18.04 and the printer continued to work well until this morning when it decided not to work. I have checked the cables which all work. I do have an HP 6300 connected and it works when the same cable is plugged into it. The 1018 printer is switched on. I did switch 1018 on and off and it resets. Thanks. Yes - I can see now that it is a gnome-shell segfault. Turning off the gnome-shell extension dash-to-panel (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1160/dash-to-panel/) resolves the issue. I notice on the extension's page someone has also reported the problem there. [Bug 1753159] Re: Openbox Syntax Error lubuntu-rc.xml is Empty
Being that is was 2 years ago, I don't remember exactly what I did. I can only assume at this point, since I am not in a position right now to replicate this issue and try to work around it again. However I will try to give instructions to help, so be aware that I might not be giving sufficient instructions. I am assuming you can access the terminal in some form, and hopefully know at least the basics of working with the terminal. Create a new user using the adduser command, you can use the following link to a tutorial on how to do it: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-add-and-delete- users-on-ubuntu-18-04 You will want to grant the new user sudoers privileges, so be sure to follow those instructions as well. After creating a new user, copy the files from the old user's home directory to the new user's home directory, specifically the .config directory so your app configurations are saved. It may be best to copy everything over. Assuming you are still logged into the old user, the best way is via the terminal with a modified version of this command: sudo cp ~/* /home// Otherwise, use this command: sudo cp /home//* /home/ Of course, replace with the old user name, and with the new user name. This is the same with the following command, but be sure to leave the colon in place. Use chown to make sure the new user has the appropriate permissions: sudo chown : /home//* Log out and log into the new user to see if everything is working fine before proceeding to delete the old user. Use the same tutorial in the link above to delete a user. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753159 Title: Openbox Syntax Error lubuntu-rc.xml is Empty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-default-settings/+bug/1753159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1863086] Re: unkillable process (kernel NULL pointer dereference)
The commit has landed in 5.3.0-56-generic on eoan and 5.4.0-38-generic on focal, currently in -proposed. Verification for each kernel: I set the sysctl kernel.core_pattern to "|" with: $ sudo sysctl kernel.core_pattern="|" I then compiled the following reproducer: int main() { *(int*)33 = 33; return 0; } When running the program, we get a segfault, and the coredump handler kicks in, and we see the following in dmesg: [ 34.025572] format_corename failed [ 34.025572] Aborting core This is a change in the original behaviour, but technically more correct than it used to be, since it simply bails out earlier in the coredump process than before when we confirm we have an invalid core_pattern name string. The systems no longer get a null pointer dereference in the kernel, and no longer panic. The system keeps working as usual now. I have confirmed the above on both 5.3.0-56-generic on eoan and 5.4.0-38-generic on focal, so I am happy to mark this as verified. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Eoan) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1863086 Title: unkillable process (kernel NULL pointer dereference) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1863086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1881212] Re: Blank Screen initiates then fails
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881212 Title: Blank Screen initiates then fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1881212/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1881190] Re: dock missing
You don't seem to have the dock enabled. You have: 'apps-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'places-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com', 'window-l...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'workspace-indica...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'windowsnaviga...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'drive-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com' Unfortunately I can't recommend a simple GUI option to fix this that works in Ubuntu 18.04 because the old GUI is buggy (bug 1718850) and the new GUI is missing (gnome-shell-extension-prefs). Please try: sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock and if that didn't work after a reboot then you will need to edit your gsettings: org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions and add 'ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com'. Alternatively, if you can then please just install Ubuntu 20.04 (https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/). ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881190 Title: dock missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1881190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1880405] Re: High CPU and journal flooded with: JS ERROR: TypeError: null has no properties _onFocusChanged@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/closeDialog.js:135:9
Please push out a fix for this ASAP, once this tight loop is hit the machine becomes an unusable 100% CPU using mess. I know of several others suffering exactly the same bug. For me this can be reproduced by having a terminal using half the screen (using CMD+LEFT), then switching to fullscreen (F11) and back (F11). Repeating this some number of times triggers this tight loop of 100% CPU usage. After that, it's difficult to get window focus and windows are slow to respond to anything. To recover I use `killall -3 gnome-shell`, which allows Gnome to restart but then has the delightful affect of throwing windows around the screen randomly and forgetting there are multiple monitors. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1880405 Title: High CPU and journal flooded with: JS ERROR: TypeError: null has no properties _onFocusChanged@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/closeDialog.js:135:9 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1880405/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1881214] [NEW] syslog and kern.log grow endlessly - related to Intel wifi?
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu Mate 20.04, with all supplied kernels up to 5.4.0.33 I occasionally see a message on my screen that disk space is low. I try rebooting since my computer is unresponsive. Normal reboot does not work, sudo reboot does not work. I have to power off the machine using power button. Machine boots but hangs because its trying to repair journal info. I can't see what causes that since I was not using my computer at the time. So with a live session, I can see that syslog and kern.log files have grown to several GB until the drive is full. When using an upstream kernel 5.4.43-050443-generic x86_64, I haven't had any problem so far. Never had this issue with previous Ubuntu versions with the very same hardware configuration, since 16.04. Included: partial syslog and kern.log with the same message repeated over and over. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- syslog and kern.log grow endlessly - related to Intel wifi? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1878682] Re: IPv6 not enabled by default
Ryan, Thank you so much for taking the time to go over the constraints and competing goals. It's always helpful to know what constituencies are involved. > That said, I do think that cloud-init can make it easier to enable ipv6 where > it's desired (but without having to write your own network config). We're > looking into supporting a kernel parameter or cloud-config option to enable > the default config to block on ipv6 (note, we cannot use user-data to indicate > this preference as user-data is processed after networking is up as user-data > can be fetched via network URL). I think this would be a good compromise to get things moving. In my case of downloading the cloud image and specifying NoCloudNet via the SMBIOS serial number option, another key might be the simplest path. Something like: n=4 : configure IPv4 only (default now) n=6 : configure IPv6 only n=64 : configure both stacks I might then pass in: ds=nocloud-net;n=6;h=cloudtest;i=iid-local01;s=http://gemini.home.nivex.net/cidata/ Of course it's easy for me to throw out such a suggestion since I don't know how much is involved in the codebase.
