[Bug 1886809] Re: Pulse connect VPN exists because unwanted avahi network starts

2020-07-08 Thread Trent Lloyd
I'm not sure it makes sense to just universally skip "tun*" interfaces
(at least yet) but we may need to review the scenarios in which
/etc/network/if-up.d/avahi-autoipd is executing.

Helio: Can you provider a reproducer scenario? e.g. is this ubuntu
server, ubuntu desktop, what is the contents of:
/etc/network/interfaces, /etc/network/interfaces.d/*, /etc/netplan/* and
whether network manager is in use or not. And lastly exactly how pulse
VPN is installed and configured, and how that interface is
started/connected?

Additionally you may find this issue goes away with netplan versus the
older-style interfaces files. In any case with as much info as possible
for a reproducer I can check your exact scenario.

[Bug 1875199] Re: [NUC8CCHK][HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] No sound at all

2020-07-08 Thread Hui Wang
@Robert,

I don't know if it is a regression or not, if there is nothing to be
plugged in the 3.5mm audio jack, the output shows dummy output, if you
plug sth into the 3.5mm audio jack, does the output change to
lineout/headphone?

The log you posted in the #42 shows:
analog-output-lineout: Line Out (priority: 9000, latency offset: 0 usec, not
available)
Part of profile(s): output:analog-stereo,
output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

I want your to pug sth in that lineout audio jack (3.5mm audio jack) and
make it to be "available" instead of "not available"

BTW, I already reported to the pulseaudio community for that commit since that
commit introduced some issues different from this one, but no feedback yet.

[Bug 1875199] Re: [NUC8CCHK][HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] No sound at all

2020-07-08 Thread Hui Wang
Pulseaudio introduced this commit, this commit introduce your issue.

0d50e787f86b385bf33aeb53b16ca40543f1db63

alsa-card: improve the profile availability logic

When a new card shows up (during pulseaudio startup or hotplugged),
pulseaudio needs to pick the initial profile for the card. Unavailable
profiles shouldn't be picked, but module-alsa-card sometimes marked
unavailable profiles as available, causing bad initial profile choices.

This patch changes module-alsa-card so that it marks all profiles
unavailable whose all output ports or all input ports are unavailable.
Previously only those profiles were marked as unavailable whose all
ports were unavailable. For example, if a profile contains one sink and
one source, and the sink is unavailable and the source is available,
previously such profile was marked as available, but now it's marked as
unavailable.

[Bug 1882442] Re: Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 deactivates internal monitor in display manager

2020-07-08 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last -rc kernel works and the first -rc kernel doesn’t
work from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the working version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the non-working version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If it still have the same issue,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the offending commit.

[Bug 1886341] Re: Kernel Regression between 5.4.0-26 and 5.4.0-40 causes laptop internal audio devices to fail to load w/o unacceptable workaround (Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IIL05)

2020-07-08 Thread Hui Wang
@gogolink,

If you have tried those kernels and those kernels still failed, there is
no need to reinstall those kernels.

Your machine is ab Icelake machine and we hasn't had a chance to enable
the sof audio on an icelake machine before. I have no idea why the hdmi
codec init fails.

To debug this issue, we need to find the 1st workable kernel for this
machine, for example, 5.7.0-rc1 not work, 5.7.0-rc2 work.

So could you please test the mainline kernel to find the 1st workable kernel
like:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.6-rc3/
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.6-rc4/

[Bug 1811219] Re: High precision touchpad scrolling doesn't work in Wayland sessions (but does in Xorg)

2020-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Verified fixed in chromium 84 (beta).

Although that means it's now as good as Xorg sessions, which isn't
really good enough IMHO. There's too much lag in both, which you can
remove with 'Smooth Scrolling = Disabled' in chrome://flags/

Weird ChromeOS doesn't have any of these problems...

[Bug 1886759] Re: wireguard-dkms won't build with kernel 5.3.0-7648-generic

2020-07-08 Thread Alex
Thanks, Seth. I tried bringing in wireguard-dkms because the error
indicated that wireguard's kernel module was unavailable. Here are the
wireguard.ko files I have on my machine:

$ locate wireguard.ko
/lib/modules/5.3.0-7625-generic/updates/dkms/wireguard.ko
/lib/modules/5.3.0-7648-generic/updates/dkms/wireguard.ko

/var/lib/dkms/wireguard/1.0.20200611/5.3.0-7625-generic/x86_64/module/wireguard.ko

/var/lib/dkms/wireguard/1.0.20200611/5.3.0-7648-generic/x86_64/module/wireguard.ko

Where should wireguard.ko be located?

The kernel version is for a system76 machine:

$ apt-cache showpkg linux-image-5.3.0-7648-generic
Package: linux-image-5.3.0-7648-generic
Versions:
5.3.0-7648.41~1586790036~18.04~600aeb5~dev

 (/var/lib/dpkg/status)
 Description Language:
 File:
/var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_system76-dev_stable_ubuntu_dists_bionic_main_binary-amd64_Packages
  MD5: 54f64bb6b6073de5c5cf3e4d83f02c4c
 Description Language: en

  MD5: 54f64bb6b6073de5c5cf3e4d83f02c4c

BTW, I was able to temporarily work around this issue by following this
advice, which involves installing wireguard-dkms from the wireguard-
linux-compat PPA:
https://www.reddit.com/r/WireGuard/comments/hnavus/cant_build_wireguarddkms_for_ubuntu_1804_with/fxcid5x/

Alex

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-07-08 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu groovy daily [20200708.1] boots on

dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)
hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)
and already mentioned sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)

I had issues with

hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

That box kept very quickly booting HDD even if I told it to boot thumb-
drive. I could however boot an Xubuntu groovy ISO dated 2020-07-01
(picked at random) on it, so maybe this does mean this machine is still
impacted !!??

Of note on 20200708.1 booting on hp dc7700

The thumb-drive used has an orange LED, and it looks like it's read (LED
flashing) before it goes to HDD & shows hdd's grub options. It's brief
though as mentioned in comment #29

[Bug 1801814] Re: Environment overwrites XDG_DATA_DIRS

2020-07-08 Thread Andrew Hayzen
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Flatpak gdm environment overwrites any custom configuration (eg in
+ ~/.config/environment.d ) while using the Wayland session.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Create a local environment configuration
+
+ $ mkdir -p ~/.config/environment.d
+ $ echo "XDG_DATA_DIRS=${XDG_DATA_DIRS}:/tmp" >>
~/.config/environment.d/test.conf
+
+ Reboot and ensure you use the Wayland session. Then check your
+ XDG_DATA_DIRS from systemctl, the issue occurs when /tmp is not set, the
+ issue is resolved if it is set.
+
+ $ systemctl --user show-environment |grep XDG_DATA_DIRS
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low. This only affects users using the Wayland session with a custom
+ environment (which are both non-standard configuration).
+
+
+ [Original Description]
+
  Package contains this file:

  /usr/share/gdm/env.d/flatpak.env

  With this single line content:

XDG_DATA_DIRS=$HOME/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/

  This is setting the XDG_DATA_DIRS variable, irrespective of it's
  preexisting value.

  In my system I have snapd installed and I have a local configuration for
  that variable under .config/environment.d/, which gets overwritten and
  causes issues.
